Skarrgan Firebird - Guildpact. Rare
4RR: Creature - Phoenix
Bloodthirst 3 (If an opponent was dealt damage this turn, this creature comes into play with three +1/+1 counters on it.)
Flying
RRR: Return Skarrgan Firebird from your graveyard to your hand. Play this ability only if an opponent was dealt damage this turn.
3/3

6 for a possible 6/6 flyer that can possibly return itself. I guess it could with a very evasive deck since early haste damage aint gonna help a 6 drop.

The Duck's Rating: 2/5

A possible 6/6 for six mana and the ability to return to your hand, decent. 3/5

Hybrided red decks really should consider this since red flying creatures aren't exactly that common. Straight red doesn't have room for this since it should be busy zapping life and creatures instead of attacking.

3/5 hybrid

1.5/5 in straight red

I want to have a debate about the Ravnica dual lands in tomorrow's COTD. As in, Temple Garden versus Selesnya Sanctuary. How about we COTD the Sanctuarylike dual lands tomorrow?

You mean the Guild/Bounce/Karoo lands?

That makes no sense.

Red has had plenty for creatures. Not all are too amazing, but they have plenty of big flyers. Look at Rathi Dragon. Look at Fledgling Dragon. Look at Ryusei, the Falling Star.

This card is ALMOST unplayable outside of Mono-Red. Look at the cost. 4RR. Look at the ability's cost: RRR. That's almost impossible to pull off consistantly in a non-mono colored deck. it'll probably work in a Red deck splashING another color, but it'd have to be extremely heavy Red over anything else. Maybe a Green Deck with a lot of Red.

Almost like playing Flamebreak. Outside of Mono-Red, it's almost neigh possible to cast.

Anyway, the best ways to play Red is burn/LD for control, then get either a big late game creature that dominates the board or cheap fast hitters to rush. This guy perfectly fits the stompy dominating Red Burn deck.

Anyway, to the card of the day: This ain't impressive. Bloodthirst isn't an easy ability to trigger IMO. There's not been enough free burn in Ravnica, which means this creature will only be a 6/6 either after you cast some burn spell or after you attack. Since attacking isn't a constantly reliable source of face damage, this bird will likely come out later then 6th turn. Or it will come into play on 6th turn as a 3/3, which isn't worth the cost. While the potential of using it with Voyager staff is still available, it's not particularly sound.

Basically, if you can get it with a Viashino Fangtail on turn 6- as a 6/6, thenit's good. If you need Voyager staff or play it after 6th turn, it's not so amazing.

Bloodthirst is overrated and one of the weakest mechanics so far IMO.

OVERALL: 2/5
