View Full Version : Finally here!

1st March 2006, 3:49 AM
Hello everybody! I am ~Ghostwriter~ - though that name is subject to change - and I am very excited to be here!

I've actually visited this forum quite a few times over the past 6 months - never posted anything, just read other peoples' stuff - but I like it a lot. (I've been coming to Serebii.net for years now - and it rocks out loud!) Back on subject, this is a really cool place - the members seem nice and the staff seem like decent people. Anyway, I figured it was about time I joined up - so here I am!

About Me: I think I am a nice person. I'm really smart, but I'm also quiet, and very shy - except around my friends - however, I will stand up for what I believe in, and if I see someone being picked on unfairly, or see something that I think is not fair, I will not sit and watch - I will try and do something to resolve it. I love to write - it is one of my favorite pastimes - and I enjoy music immensely. I also enjoy learning about other countries. I'm a Master of Procrastination when it's something I don't want to do...not one of my better attributes....^_^;;

Me and Pokemon: I'm an older Pokemon fan. I got hooked on it at 11 - and never stopped loving it, even after several years. I'm one of those who survived Johto's fillers (though not all of them were bad) and came back for Advanced Generation (thank-you to Serebii.net for all the awesome info on that saga!). My favorite Pokemon are...well, I like all Grass-types, all Ghost-types, and many many more.

A couple more things - I'm not totally clueless, but have a few questions about these forums. (I'm really sure I'll look like a total idiot, but better now than later). If someone could answer them for me, I'd be really appreciative:

1)Those groups that I see in Public Profiles - are they actual groups people have joined, or are they simply groups that people consider themselves a part of?
2) Are these groups only on these forums?
3) Precisely how do you 'bump' a thread - so I can avoid it? (I've never really gotten a full definition for that...) Aren't people supposed to just go to the last post (or last page) and post from there? (This was one of those stupid questions...^_^;;)
4) In the Announcements - (yes, I actually read them...I actually read the rules, too) are only staff members allowed to post their opinions on a certain subject, or are regular members allowed to do that, too? (Another stupid question.)
5) Is swearing allowed? (Not that I want to swear - I don't.) I didn't see anything in the rules about it.

If someone could answer these for me, I would really appreciate it!! Thank You!

1) Not sure what you're asking
3) Posting in a thread after it has not been posted in in30 days is considered an illegal bump
4)you are allowed to post, but not make threads
5) No.

Welcome to SPPf, ~Ghostwriter~ and this is a good community, despite any trolls, etc. members joining to spam up the place. I am glad that you have read the rules and finally joined instead of hiding away in the shadows from us. We don't bite, not that hard anyway.

To your questions, I will answer them in the order you have:

1) I believe they are just for the profile to say what you like of Pokémon, like the anime, shipping, etc.
2) Yes, I believe so.
3) When a thread has been dead for over a month I believe and someone posts in it recently, it is considered as bumping. Someone can correct me if I am wrong.
4) I am not sure on that, but most of the time, they are the only ones that do it.
5) Not most of them because there is a swear filter on, though some members know how to bypass them. However, Serebii, the founder of SPP.net and Serebiiforums.com do not want anyone to do so.

I may have missed something, but I hope I helped at least. Now I have to go for now. >_>; Feel free to PM me for anything, and be sure you read the Newbie Help Topic and FAQ here: http://www.serebiiforums.com/showthread.php?t=91015 for any more questions.

Oh, is that what 'bumping' is...I think I get it. Thank you both very much! Locke Yggdrasill, thanks for all of those links - I'll be sure to look at them (P.S., your doll rocks!); Midnight Eefi - I'm glad you knew what 'groups' I was talking about, you helped a bunch!; and MistyMix89, thank you, and I think I will enjoy my time here very much! Thank you all for the warm welcome ^_^

You can join the usergroups here: http://www.serebiiforums.com/profile.php?do=editusergroups And like Eefi said, they're just for you profile to show some more info about you. And the usertitle next to the ones you choose to join is your rank. It also appears as your usertitle if you choose not to have a custom one.

Also, if you read the announcements like you said in question four then you wouldn't have had to ask question five. ;P

As for four, you can post your opinion.

Anyways, hi and welcome to SPPf! ^_^

I did read the Announcements - I read the stuff about the 'swear filter evaders'; it was merely a matter of confusion on my part. Thing is, I saw people swearing, so I thought it was allowed - but then there was talk about a swear filter, which made me think it wasn't. (Now I know we're just not supposed to evade the filter.) I really do read the Announcements, though...oh well, thanks! =) *goes off to edit profile*

Heh, I was kidding about you not reading the announcements. I tend to joke around a lot and when I do I usually have some form of the ;P smilie afterwards.

As for swearing, it's not really allowed. But if you don't do it much and just let it turn into asteriks then it's okay. Just don't go cussing in all your posts. :p

Hi dude! Welcome! I won't repeat what all said so...have a nice time!

2nd March 2006, 1:59 AM
Oh...sorry...heheh...^_^;; I like to tease people and give them a hard time, too....

In all honesty, I thought you might be teasing (that's why I left the smile, to try and show that I wasn't really angry or anything), but at the same time I still wanted to reiterate that I do read the Announcements, especially since I am new....so I'm sorry! (Next time you have one of those ;P I'll just joke right back! =)

You seem intelligent. A writer you are, one with words, dude of silence, guy of wonders. I, too am also quietish, but I enjoy drawing more than writing. I have discovered many secrets, and my spatial expertise allow me to freely control my palm and bring to creation those that have been sealed away in my mind. Did you imagine any feudal Japan music when you read that? Welcome and have fun!
