Sounds like a cool episode. The golden Sudowoodo is probably like the Crystal Onix since I don't think a shiny Sudowoodo is gold.

So did the wild rumors come true? Did Bonsly evolve into a Sudowoodo? Did Ash capture the golden Sudowoodo?

As far as I remember it already had a trainer.

Wow the Speculation thread for this episode was awfully quiet >_>; The new ending for this episode seems to be more popular than the episode itself XP

Though it will most likely be a rehash of the Crystal Onix episode :O

This episode was okay, it wasn't the best that I've seen though. The Gold Sudowoodo ended up being a original colored Sudowoodo after its trainer used some machine on it, people trying to capture it when it was gold colored, and Team Rocket trying to capture it but failing as usual. Wasn't that interesting. Next episode's going to be better though.

It's only with best interests at heart that I say that. Sudowoodo has never been high on the 'preferred' scale in the anime. Looking at what they could have provided for it instead, this is definitely on the low end.

The hyper surrounding the Ranger special, the 10th Anniversary special, and the recently released May ending effectively shoved this episode to the back burner. Can't we just put it out of its misery?

Also, a Zelda joke. Jessie dreams that throwing in a normal Sudowoodo in a lake, a fairy (who looks like Jessie) will give you a golden one, like in Zelda!

This episode looks pretty good judging by the pictures.

I saw Onix in a picture of this episode. Was it Brock's? Like, was he referinng to his?

Also, Sudowoodo running into that bar from TR, dancing around, and then realizing all those cowboys who wanna catch it are their, and then they chase it out of the bar. Lol.

Meowth's Gio fantasy of the day reminded me of the King Midas story with everything gold...Meowth really is desperate, isn't he?XD

What was the kid doing with his Sudowoodo anyway? I'm guessing he's some sort of inventor and used Sudowoodo as his lab rat. No wonder Sudowoodo ran away from him then, if that was the case!:p That poor tree...

I don't know why, but I really love this episode.
Of course, I've only seen pictures, it but looks pretty awesome to me. Maybe it's Sudowoodo. I don't know, but seeing this episode makes me really love Sudowoodo again. Feck that thing is awesome...and cute too.

I love that Ash only tries to catch a Pokemon when he can't. It's frikken hilarious >.>
How Sudowoodo merely punched the Pokeball back and it hit Ash in the face was priceless.

The Gold Sudowoodo itself was a great idea. I'm not quite sure, but didn't Mr. CotD use the goldening machine so his Sudowoodo could repel water? Because he was in a lake and wasn't freaking out.
Speaking of gold plating though, that Team Rocket Dream was messed. I mean honestly, wouldn't a gold robe get heavy? How about some comfy gold bed sheets to crush you into sleep paralysis? 8D

Overall, the episode may not have had anything too special to it, but that Gold Sudowoodo looked damn good. And what's with the randomness of Brock mentioning Onix? Curious that they're returning to Pewter in just a few episode, neh? ;O

I love gold
The trainer was really cute (and I mean like a new addition to my male hunk shrine cute)
And they played an interesting song where they had the Battle Frontier lyrics in it. I love Akina! *_* wish she'd sing more openings.

The cliché trainer/pokémon relationship plot with added Team Rocket mecha ruined this one as far as I'm concerned. Sudowoodo isn't about friendship and trust. Sudowoodo is about insane, pointless antics and disturbing phallic oddities.
Team Rocket and the Sudowoodo flailing around in mid run ( & the animation I suppose) saved this from being total garbage. And in the end, both factors provided me with a few laughs, which means this didn't fall flat on it's face. Jessie going for a spot of underwater jetpack fishing and Sudo waving to all the burly looking cowpoke in the bar before fleeing like a madman were some of the better highlights.

Just to note, that alternate 'Battle Frontier' song near the end was really nice sounding.

I can see why you said that after seeing the pics. Reeks of mid-Johto.

I bet the image of Onix was in referrence to Olivine City's Janina's Onyx when she covered it in something (polish?) to repel water.

Rocket Dan (as well as the premiere of the new ending, maybe Ballade Battle Frontier too) are definitely to thank for keeping this episode from being complete s***. The scene where Musashi gets Usokkii with a jet pack while wearing a wet suit, the return beam hitting Musashi, and even that bonzai mecha was better than I expected it'd be from the preview (I thought the way it says its name was pretty funny). Also, concerning that "Zelda" reference, I think there's something similar in the Harvest Moon games, and .hack to a lesser extent. I'm not sure, but I think there's some kind of myth about a lake goddess that rewards you if you honestly tell her you tossed something in there. Can anyone confirm this?

The hell are ya talkin' about? Iwark was probably the most useful Pokemon Takeshi ever had given its girth, and as far as any of his Pokemon go, it was used quite a bit. Besides, we all know that, with Takeshi and Jirou so determined on keeping Nibi Gym a gym that specializes in rock-types, there's no way in hell it's gonna evolve.

The only reason Takeshi brought up Iwark evolving into Haganeil is because he was comparing the golden Usokkii as being a rock-type that turned into a steel-type.

All right, now we officially know what happens when somebody jumps in front of a Pokeball's return beam. They get zapped and paralyzed.

It was primarily the comedy bits that saved this episode from mediocrity. The ballad varation of Battle Frontier at the end was nice, and even made for a nice emotional touch.

In terms of what town they decided to rip off this week, it had various vibes of the first Squirtle Squad episode. Someone get a framegrab and compare.

And is it me, or is Sudowoodo less than half the height it used to be? The one in Johto towered over Brock, yet this one was about as tall as Max.

Also, the intro was a bit different this week, not counting the inclusiuon of Hinata and Jackie. There were various sound effects not present before.

It was a good episode, because it served it's purpose well.

This was meant to be the "breather" between all the heavy plot stuff going on. The Anabel 2-parter, the Ranger/Deoxys 2-parter, the Harley/Jessie Contest 2-parter, and the future TR disbandment episode as well as the Pewter Gym ep.

Since there are quite a lot of 2-parters and other important plot focused episodes around this, this was nice to have as a "breather" between these arcs.

I enjoyed it, but since I don't understand a lick of Japanese I can't pass judgement on it till I see the dub....a year from now.

Sudowoodo is 3' 11", which makes it shorter than most 10 year olds. Shortie D:

As far as I know, sudowoodo isn't that tall... so the one shown to be around Max's height (in this episode) would be more accurate, correct?

Different Pokemon can obviously be different heights and sizes. Age and I guess different genes would be obvious reasons. Remember that unusually large Onix from To Master the Onixpected? Heck, even May's Bulbasaur is slightly smaller than Ash's. And Brock's Mudkip was bigger than all of the other Mudkip at the...um, place where he got it. :p

So it's not a shiny then? Poop. The way they did it was really lame. So this kid is a genius who made a machine that accidently changed his Sudowoodo's skin color? Um, okay.

I like Ballad Battle Frontier, but for a serious ep. That was the problem with this one, the corniness that led to sunset ending #250. If the entire thing was humor, it would have been great.

The humor we did get was hilarious though. The entire scene around the lake until Ash-tachi popped up was hilarious. Characters getting larger heads for a few seconds and characters randomly being dressed into something different before you can blink for the win once again.

I seriously hate the TR mecha. :O

22nd April 2006, 1:55 AM
That Mecha was stupid--I think the eyes bothered me or something. And Sudowoodo's voice seriously annoyed me, but TR was freaking hilarious this episode.

So I'm guessing Pokémon have a different cellular structure from humans, and the minute hesitation from when they turn completely red to being pulled in is to check if this cell structure is of a Pokémon or something else, and only pulls them in if it's analyzed as positive. In Jessie's case, she was obviously rejected, and I guess she wasn't able to move since, well, all her cells were just analyzed. Hm?

This episode was actually a lot better than I thought it would be. I laughed out loud quite a few times, especially at Team Rocket. For some reason watching the Sudowoodo/Bonsly interaction also amused me.

It's been said that sudowoodo is not a "proper" shiny, it seems it was involved in some experiment that went wrong and made it a golden colour... but, by the end of the episode, it reverts to the colours of a normal sudowoodo.

Eh, what the terribly hackneyed plot left to be desired was pretty much made up for by Usokki's hilarious antics. Frantically flailing about through the forest, stumbling into the bar, and such.

And Kinya's hair kept reminding me of Ichiko from the ninja school episode.

I think what happened was he was trying to give it resistance to water, although I'm not sure exactly why. He was successful, but the process also gave it that golden sheen. Sudowoodo noticed it right away, got really upset, and ran away. Kinya felt really bad about it and figured out how to reverse the process, and was trying to get Sudowoodo back when Ash and the gang showed up.

Okay, off topic, but with the Mudkip thing, yes, I assume it was nearly an adult, but I think Brock did make some comment that the Mudkip was big, so perhaps the Mudkip was bigger than the average Mudkip of similar age, rather than simply comparing it to babies, which would obviously be smaller.

Not really that bad an episode, I did like James' reaction to Jessie suggesting he throw Manene into the lake.
I did notice one little animation error though, when the gang first enter Kinya's house, for a split second you see the golden Sudowoodo enter with them. Anybody else spot that? I was seriously WTFing and rewatching several times to make sure.

This episode was pretty good. The gold Sudowoodo was cool. Jessie's fantasy with making Sudowoodo gold was kinda funny. Jessie wanting to use Mime Jr was hilarious as well as Meowth's and Sudowoodo's conversation. It was weird when Kenan tried to return Sudowoodo but hit Jessie instead. I felt bad for how Sudowoodo first became gold. The TR mecha, I have to admit, was really cool.

Kenan? Seems PUSA is starting to make their dub names more similar to the Japanese names like 4Kids did (He was Kinya in the original). During the first half of the season, the dub names had no relation whatsoever to their original ones (Brianna, Jeremy, etc.). Ever since the Scizor episode, though, they've either kept the names as is or kept them similar.

What kind of song was Battle Frontier Ballad replaced with, anyways? (In spite of the overwhelming odds, I'm going to take the chance and assume it was replaced.)

(I'm going to be gone when this episode airs here, but here's the same opinion that I had 7 months ago - Standard filler saved by superb animation.)

I didnt think so. I thought he sounded like your typical cowboy-accented guy.

Not a bad eppy. I did find the boss fantasy to be truly funny, but the best would be Jessie's, so much ego involved. The part of randomly walking into into a pub was pretty funny. The town had a very western look to it, despite being in the middle of a forest.

You know, I was thinking about Kenan's voice as well. His voice sounded familiar from the 1st and 2nd season of Pokemon. He did remind me of Rudy and as well the one with the Jolteon with the Eevee battling brothers.

The episode was good, I liked it. I like the whole Western thing that was going on. Got me doing some Western voices after hearing that.

1.) I think Jessie is on some kind of high. Don't know what exactly, but she's on something.

Well, just comparing this episode to the previous sudowoodo-heavy episode, "Type Casting", I'll take this episode anytime. Sudowoodo was a heck of a lot less annoying here than in the previous episode (and at least we didn't have any disturbing moments ;) ). Team Rocket's machine in this episode was pretty awesome too (it sounded like something out of Voltron or the Power Rangers LOL). It was a little disturbing how the trainer had upset his sudowoodo so much by trying to make it resistant to water, it reminded me of Jenina and her onix from "Fight for the Light". At least he got his sudowoodo to respect him again by saving him. Jessie's fantasy in this episode was beyond weird, but it was pretty amusing too. I also liked the tough guys at the bar. I got a chuckle over Meowth translating sudowoodo, because the line sounded like the kid who walks by the lake in Verdanturf in Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald. LOL

Best line (from the guys at the tavern): "So I said, if you don't wanta cooperate, I'll have ta rearrange your face." "You're not goin' soft on me, are ya?"

Overall, 7/10.

And i loved to see Bonsly standing near Sudowoodo.

It wasn't that much of a good episode, the only thing I liked is how the red beam slammed into Jessie it was like "Jessie return!" lol would be funny if it actually put her in the pokeball and they made a episode about that. The other part was Jessie throwing the Pokemon into the lake (Was there a legend or something about that lake?)

An episode showing a real shiny Sudowoodo would have been better

Not much to say about this episode.
Just your typical "break" episode from all the action the previous episodes have given us.

This episode was ok... It was cool to see a Golden Sudowoodoo for the 1st time. I'm glad its trainer made things right, and changed it back to a regular-looking Sudowoodo. TR's Boss fantasy was very bizarre in this episode.

I enjoyed this episode when I saw it in english.

I did find the golden Sudowoodo to be interesting, even though I can somehow guess that it feels painful. The animators did a nice job of animating it.

Another thing is man, those men were crazy over the golden Sudowoodo.

And also, I now know what happens when a human gets hit by a Pokeball's tractor beam. I wish it would happen more often.

The one thing about it in my opinion is the mecha Team Rocket uses in this episode. Let's see, it is a robot with it's body composed with two pots. And the one thing I find funny about it is that is shouts "bonsai!" randomly. And also, calling it a "Boy" and Team rocket saying it's part of their "Family". One other thing I would like to suggest for it, is that it screams when it is destroyed.

It's cool to see a golden Sudowoodo in this episode.
All Those men(Including Team Rocket) were crazy over that Sudowoodo and wanted to capture it, I'm glad Keenan turned it back to normal.
