View Full Version : New Rules regardings Spoilers

Right...I have had it already with the abuse with the new spoiler tag now so listen up and listen good. Here they are:
In Posts
No Misusing of the Spoiler Tag. Only use it WHEN it is a spoiler.
No Spoiler Stacking i.e. using multiple spoiler tags for just one spoiler. Only One extra tag is allowed
No Pointless Spoiling
For the Spoiler Stacking...here is what I won't accept
Roflcopter
Here is what I would accept
Ash Saw Ho-oh in this episode. He saw it as it was flying away...it had a Golden Aura
He also saw Ho-oh in this Episode...it had a Gold Aura but you could fully see it's colours
However...
He saw Ho-oh here when the Pyramid Flew Away...it had the Gold Aura again and there was a flashback back
Now for Sig Rules
No Pointless Use of the Spoiler Tag
No hiding your entire/part of your signiture in the spoiler tag. The Sig Length is determined after spoilers have been viewed
Absolutely no stacking of Spoiler Tags
First instance of breaking this will involve an informal Warning
Second would be a proper Warning
Third would be a deletion of the thing in question and a final warning
Fourth would be a ban
If you do it again after you're unbanned, you will get one warning before being banned for it again
The Spoiler Tags are there to protect spoilers...not for you to mess about pointlessly with

Good thinking to make this thread Serebii! I was just wonderin... is mine ok?

Aye, those sigs which were encased entirely in spoiler tags were getting annoying. Thanks for implementing this.

Honestly, It is worse than the old spoiler. Do you really think people will stop misusing it at the threat of an informal warning? I'd skip that and go to an official one. Off topic, what happened to the old ones already in a post before you changed them? Did they switch or were they unspoiled?

Heh. Had to be: they were/are being abused left, right and centre. Nice rule that needed to be implemented before it was/is too late.

They stopped working.

What if you wanted to make a table of contents for a fic and wanted to spoil the episodes you had yet to write? Is that okay?
Serebii
27th May 2006, 10:40 PM
I just added the basic tag so that old Spoilers aren't covered

Heh, good ol' rules. xD
Hopefully people won't abuse them now, or. . . most of them.

Actually this is wrong. Spoiler Tag abuse in sigs has already been brought up and will be treated like any other breach of the signature rules. Strike One - Offending part removed. Strike Two - Entire sig removed. Strike Three - Entire sig removed + Week ban. Thre's no point over complicating the sig rules with extra warnings just for this.
I shouldn't even half to point out how there was never this sort of problem with the old spoiler tags.

Thank God. Spoiler Stacking/ pointless sig spoilers were as annoying as hell.

Its kinda sad that this rule was necessary. Yeah, all those spoiler sigs were quite annoying. Plus the stacking, ugh.

I seriously got sick of that too. I mostly saw it in people's sigs and in the game forum.

Okay, does that mean I can't cover my entire sig with a spoiler, even though it's proper length anyways? Do I need to take it off?

Well, that didn't take long. It's stupid that some people on these forums can't stop themselves from abusing extra features when they are implemetated. It happened with the karma system and now it's happened here. I hope we never get custom avatars, all hell would break loose.

Hmmm... I hate these people stacking up the spoilers with pointless stuff.
By the way, I like to have my sig nice and small. You can use a spoiler button to store any credits in to avoid stacking up your sig.

28th May 2006, 12:47 PM
I was getting very, VERY, annoyed/irritated with all those spoiler tags in the sigs. Why do you want to cover your own sig anyway? It's P.O.I.N.T.L.E.S.S.

Am I the ONLY person here who is not happy about this? I mean, I liked the idea where if someone wanted to see my sig, they'd have to click for it. Of course, I'm all for stopping people from stacking about 50 spoiler tags to conceal spam, but I didn't find the spoiler tags hiding the sigs annoying.

Am I the ONLY person here who is not happy about this? I mean, I liked the idea where if someone wanted to see my sig, they'd have to click for it.
...why? If people want to see sigs, they have that option turned on in their user CP. If they don't want to see sigs, they have that option turned off. Why make people who want to see sigs click something to see YOUR sig? It's pointless. I find it more annoying to see a "show spoiler" button instead of an actual sig. :<
Come on people, those who view sigs are USED to skimming over them(and perhaps stopping for a moment if they notice something interesting enough) by now, so you're not helping anything(time or space-wise) by hiding part or all of your sig, and chances are that the only people who think it's neat are you and the others who hide their sigs. At least now the people who do that will be hunted down and kil-er, have their sigs deleted by the Sig Patrol. :)

Generally, people will abuse a function such as this. Another forum I'm a member on has similar spoiler tags which are misused in the same way.
RaZoR LeAf
28th May 2006, 6:33 PM
Oh yes by the way, seeing as it's not mentioned here:
With the coming of the new spoiler tags comes a restriction on them. It is listed as rule 11 of the signature rules:
You are allowed only one (1) spoiler in your signature. No more than that. That includes individual spoiler and spoilers within spoilers. Also, the standard forum rules still apply with or without spoilers. If your signature is too tall or has images too large after the button is clicked, it is still considered breaking signature rules.
This is in the official Sig Rules now, so I suggest everyone take note.

Nice. People who thought they were being funny with dumb things inside the spoilers were really starting to annoy me. I'm glad that this rule was made.

29th May 2006, 2:10 PM
I knew that you would make new rules for the spoilers. But since I am not from England and America, I can't speak English well, and I didn';t understand the word Stack, all I want to know, is my spoiler in my sig ok? Or should be removed?
Black Dragon
29th May 2006, 2:55 PM
Stack = Too tall, which is over 420 pixels, if I understand the sig rules correctly.
Only 4 days after the new spoiler came up, and people are abusing it so much that Serebii had to make a rule? That's just sad. S-A-D. Sad.
fidani16
29th May 2006, 8:22 PM
Thanks Black_Knight. But I found it in my dictionary.
Well, seems that my spoiler isn't big and can stay there.
By the way, this is a good rule because I saw many members doing the thing spoiler over spoiler, you know what I mean, right?

30th May 2006, 6:08 AM
Now, let's just hope people actually read this AND follow it. ;( Because it is frankly very annoying to see all those spoiler tags, and it can overstack, taking into account the spoiler tags on both ends. Though I don't know how much people even read the original signature rules...
Bay
30th May 2006, 7:23 AM
Thanks Serebii for this rule on the new spoiler tags. I agree with you Eefi. I don't think very much people read the signature rules. That's why now I keep checking to see if my sig is all right, just double checking.
Yeah, I only use the spoiler tags if there is some spoiler in my fic or if I am reading a fic and then said something that might be in the fic in the near future.
;134;~Good night, and good luck~

30th May 2006, 7:40 AM
Hah! I knew it.
I knew that the New Spoiler Tags would get abused as soon as they were put into function. Well, this should clear things up, since basically EVERYBODY has got at least one Spoiler Tag in their sig. I just hope people actually read this, since I have seen some members who don't follow any of the rules at all. It is irritating.
You know, I thought of an idea for more people to read important announcements. Maybe you should make these announcements visible in every single forum and sub-forum, like the April Fools Heads-Up announcements. That way, anybody and everybody who goes to a specific forum or sub-forum can view the important announcements.
Well, I just hope more people read this so there will be more order around here, minus the abuse of unnecessary spoilers.

But what if the sig is still within the sig rules after all the spoilers are open?

Spoiler stacking was NEVER a neat idea. It's against the rules as it takes up unnecessary space. But if you think otherwise, then go ahead and get your *** banned. See if I care.
Back on topic, I can't see the real use of spoilers in sigs; seems pointless, and I don't intend to break that.

Hi. I may have joined recently, but I agree that the rule needed to be inplace. First of all, stacking just iritates people and isn't necesarry at all. (Except for a definate spoiler within a spoiler.)
As for the sigs, they just go and distract from the forum threads as we go through them. And though some may be funny, the majority are not.

18th October 2006, 8:53 AM
I personally like spoiler tags but since I'm reletively new I have seen the massive spoiler chains. But I might like them. Why isn't this attached the the sig rules, because I oringally read the sig rules then I put a useless spoiler. That when pressed said, "There is nothing really here" Sp I didn't know I was breaking the rules until someone pointed it out for me.
So to the short point could you put this in the sig rules?
