View Full Version : Will the Wii show gender differences?

Mudster
13th June 2006, 4:40 PM
Now that we know that Diamond and Pearl have gender specific sprites, do you think that Pokémon Battle Revolution will also support this feature?

I think that it most likely will, but then some features do change from game to game, e.g. the colour of shiny Pokémon when transferred from R/S/E/FR/LG to Colosseum/XD.

Please post your thoughts.

yes they'll have the gender differences why would they not?

AJ Flibble
13th June 2006, 5:21 PM
Most likely. If they're going to be in D/P, why would they give that up for Revolution? Even though it's gonna take a LONG, LONG time to make...

mewfanforlife
13th June 2006, 7:08 PM
I hope so, and it will probably be easier to notice them when they're blown up.

Shinin
13th June 2006, 8:12 PM
They probably will.

Divine_Light
13th June 2006, 8:20 PM
Yes, Probably, But for now we don't know

ANinyMouse
13th June 2006, 9:20 PM
I could only hope so. If they're going to all the trouble to add this to DP, then I don't see why they wouldn't. That is, unless they rush the game WAY before it's ready, like they did with Colosseum *COUGH HACK* >_>

Pikamiki
13th June 2006, 9:20 PM
well since they are going to be in D/P i suppose they will also be in the wii version of pokemon next gen

jellsprout
13th June 2006, 9:27 PM
I'm pretty shure they will. They're doing it with D/P, so why wouldn't they do it with an engine that is much more capable of doing something like that. I think it is also very possible that they will take stuff like that further, such as Pokémon with high HP IV's/EV's being larger than Pokémon with low HP IV's/EV's.

Meganium Ex

Am I the only one who thinks not? Its 3D, so it'd be even harder for Nintendo to make them appear in two forms in Revolution than in D/P

Kabuto
14th June 2006, 11:10 PM
I think its probable unless the creators are lazy enough to use the old images from Colo/XD.

Actually, the pre-release pics already show that their new, yay ;)

pepsa
14th June 2006, 11:15 PM
yes I think they will. Or at least I hope they will. D/P and pokemon battle revolution are from the same geration, right?

14th June 2006, 11:19 PM
Yeah, they should. I just hope this isn't as bad a C[rap]olluseum.

Shinin
15th June 2006, 2:39 AM
Some gender differences wouldn't be too apparent. Scizor's, for instance, seems to be a more downward pointed thorax or whatever it's called rather than an upward one on the males.

Flame Haze SnS
15th June 2006, 2:45 AM
They'll probably show the difference in genders since it is compatible with D/P Versions.

DoctorOak

All they have to do is make a slight modification to the model or texture for the model (depending on whether it's a physical difference like Wooper's or a pattern like Butterfree) and save it seperately, then call upon it when the gender is appropriate.

It's easier to do it on a 3D model than a sprite, even with over 400 to do, a group of a couple of people could steam through it in a week. Hardly a massive obstacle.

Just to add nothing new to the thread,

it would make sense, I mean why wouldn't they show it?

Unless they are being lazy they definently will.

Most likely they will. Give me one good reason why they won't.

Believe me, Deoxys didn't look that good in Colo/XD ;).

See the difference?

I wouldn't count on it to be honest. But hey! They're adding physical contact and such. I bet they will. Still, I wouldn't count on it. ;)

pharaohguy530
16th June 2006, 3:13 PM
No, since I think gender differences should only be for D/P.
Plus, it would be another thing that would make the game take forever to come out to.

Solar Crimson
16th June 2006, 5:36 PM
Most likely they will. They will probably add all of the new graphical improvements into this game. Like when Stadium 2 showed shiny Pokémon.

Golde
17th June 2006, 4:01 AM
mtl it will, since itll probably come out around the same time as d/p

Validus
18th June 2006, 9:21 AM
well everything that can be said as been said, but throw in my two cents just so you all know where i stand on the issue at hand: yes

Ex_Mightyena
18th June 2006, 11:33 AM
Hmm this is a great question.
I think yes, because trading a female wooper to PokemonBR than all of a sudden growing those extra parts is stupid.Pokemon is getting smarter, all of it.So Id say itd be stupid not to count it in,my guess:Absolutely!

you guys that think it'll take to long should take a peak at DoctorOak's post.
Texturing is not hard at all, hell I could texture all the Pokemon models to be male/female given a month, infact most of the differences seem like minor add ons to the sprite like color on Buterfree's wings or a larger abdomen on Scizzors. Recoloring a small piece of a wing takes like 30 seconds at that, so it won't be that big of a delay.

GeminiDragon
18th June 2006, 6:14 PM
i will say yes because they added physical contact and also let you blow up the stage and stuff

Smeargle_the_painter

of course they will, the pokemon need a wii, rite?</corny joke>
i bet they will.

Auraninja

I think they will. I believe that the gender differences is not just a new feature on D/P; instead I think it is a new proposal for future games to come.

Psyboy
21st June 2006, 2:28 AM
I think they will why would they stop after Diamond and Pearl?

Kikas123
21st June 2006, 3:14 AM
But how? the main diffence between animals (execept like bulls[Tauros] and Cows [Miltank]) in real life are thier hee-hee's and haa-haa's, In a RPG like game like D/P are probably gonna be, it's easy, just have them in differnt positions, but how could you make new looks for a 3-D figure? but have it look like the other form of the same species, when no animated diffences are or have been apparent?

KoopaTim
21st June 2006, 10:52 AM
Well...yah, If the DS can, So can the Wii!

Joshua Johnson
21st June 2006, 10:54 PM
I'm going to say yes, because hey, the Pokemon have always been one Gender, and now that DP are coming out, when you use a female Wooper for instance, you wouldn't want it to look like a male Wooper, right?

SHUCKLE MAN
21st June 2006, 11:00 PM
I want the gender differences to be in this game too. I want male Gardevoirs to look more masculine and female Machamp to look more feminine in all games from now. Not just DP.

FireTrainer92
22nd June 2006, 3:36 AM
most likely. why would they not

danburite

If they haven't updated their 3D models since Pokemon Snap, why would they start now?

ZTcrazy
23rd June 2006, 6:45 PM
Because graphics-wise Nintendo are going through a break through, with the DS touch screen and the...um...Wii *winces*. Plus, with gender differences, I'm sure they won't be as lazy as to edit the original ones. I don't see why they shouldn't.

It'd be nice, but I honestly don't see it happening.

Not quite. That is how they can create it, not present it. It has to be present with the character model, not seperate from it.

No. Pokemon takes up too much memory on the console's already, let's not make it more.

lime_green_hero
17th July 2006, 3:43 AM
I don't think they really have a chioce anymore. They've added gender differences, there's no going back now.

We are talking about gamefreak here, the company that removed day and night time eh?
I really do hope they show, I wanna see em ^^

Shiny Penny
17th July 2006, 11:35 AM
I think that they'll have gender differences. The differences shown on the D/P Pokemon so far have been quite small so really theres no reason why they wouldnt want to include them.

Bulbatordile
17th July 2006, 11:38 AM
It seems unlikely that they would add such feature and then remove it so quickly-and as D/P is combatible with Battle Rev. it would seem strange if your pokemon suddenly changed in appearance-like growing antennae!

indigestible_wad
17th July 2006, 8:37 PM
Well it's the fourth generation along with D/P. I am pretty confident that it will.

Nintandy
17th July 2006, 10:47 PM
I sure hope so, it would add even more character to the Pokémon, and in my opinion it would look a lot better. Besides, it would be odd to see them looking different on the DS, yet not change on the TV.

Psydaquil
18th July 2006, 5:48 PM
I hope so cause that would be really cool.

Psydaquil
18th July 2006, 5:48 PM
oo oo sorry double post but

I just felt sorry for single Gender Pokes. Poor guys get 1 sprite.

Ash6K
18th July 2006, 6:04 PM
I'd like the gender differences to appear in the Wii. If it is shown in D/P, why not for the Wii?

IrkenAdolescent
18th July 2006, 6:43 PM
Psydaquil, your apology means nothing. There is an edit button.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure they'll have the gender difference. It'd be pretty random if they decided not to.

Firemaker
19th July 2006, 10:15 PM
They have too. They make a game difference, they must show it

neo_senku
21st July 2006, 4:59 AM
im sure they will, its not like its not graphically possible or that it would take up too much space or anything like that. i cant see why it wouldnt show the diffrence

Erus Black Mage

Yes, I think they will.

DragonessKim
21st July 2006, 9:05 AM
I'm hoping they do... but it's not being made by the same people as pearl/diamond, so they might not have the same priorities.

Nintandy
23rd July 2006, 6:51 PM
Yup, they pretty much have to really, as I mentioned before, they'd lose their appearance when being transferred from the DS to the big screen. Besides, this is Battle Revolution, why remove things, it should be moving forward. D/P added back day and night, animated battle sprites, and added new features, so I'm hoping the same can be said for BR.

Sir Devious
24th July 2006, 10:37 AM
Mabie, but this game is going to take forever to make. :/

parodion
25th July 2006, 2:03 PM
it wont take that much longer to do. they'll probably use the pokemon from the cube games and modify them to make the second gender. it makes sense for thm to make the diferent genders because if people trade in pokemon from d/p they'll say "hey my pokemon looks different!" and may get freaked out, think its a glitch and reset or be annoyed.

Great Sage
29th July 2006, 12:34 AM
Why? Why not?

Fanajman

If the GF works in the game like they work in XD, not I don`t think so, but look like they are doing a realy good game so I will wait gender diferences

Lunarix
29th July 2006, 10:32 PM
Hopefully so, but on Home consoles in general so far they've been pretty laid back with gender differences.

kyogre king
9th August 2006, 10:09 PM
Yeah i think they will

Abraace
15th August 2006, 9:02 AM
I've heard that using the Wii you can use re-create your face for certain games(like Wii Tennis for example)...I wonder if this sort of ability will be allowed to be in Battle Revolution. Then customised trainers would be available.

zuloon
16th August 2006, 6:14 AM
Even though it's gonna take a LONG, LONG time to make...
Excuse me for asking, but what gave you that idea? The 3d model itself would take longer than merely editing the finished model.

pokefan90
30th October 2006, 8:23 PM
I hope they do because they heve to continue what they started in Red/Blue/Green. For those not knowing what I'm talking about I mean the whole nidoran thing. They made nidoran male and nidoran female look ifferent. That was the great mistake they had and now something good well... sortta good has come of it. If they made DP have differences then why the hell not in pokemonBR? They HAVE TO!!! If they don't they'll have too many complaints from the over despirete fens and the not so despirate but trying to update their website webmasters(think of a green little pokemon at the top, now think of the forum's maker). As I was saying those getting the game brfore it is released in the us will complaint and people won't want it unless theyre diehard fans. The webmasters, souch as www.serebii.net 's, will post info on it not having gender ddifferences wich will disapoint too many people causing a minor to great deal of pre sales drops. Then when it is released it might not be as accepted. The only reason then to buy the game would be to see wailord use rollout atack on caterpieXD.

Bottomline it HAS to have gender differences.

They'll be there, but many of them are quite subtle... it's hard to notice them.

Chaos Emperor

I don't think so. The differences between male and female pokemon are so subtle in most pokemon, they're hardly noticable, so, no.
