Alright I am revising bad sprites since today was the last day of school for me yeah!Now I need help on this :dragon: / :bug: sprite.Also the sprite I was going to use in a challenge against Purpea.Now time for the helping part.I want to shade sprite with only 3 shades like RSE sprites but the sprite can't look flat but I can only do that with 4 or more shades.I want my sprites to look more offical like.Also critque on other things like fixing up the outline,anatomy and such.

Yeah I know the sprite does'nt look too much like a bug.It is supposedly a firely.
Note:This is not a project

Not all RSE sprite have only three shades. Go look at Skarmory or Ninetales and you'll see they have five shades, including black, like your scratch does. Yes, I checked them.

Now for your scratch itself, it's not that bad. One thing about the anatomy I don't like is the right wing (the one that's behind the sprite). It doesn't look quite natural since the sprite is facing to the left (unless I'm wrong) and it's in almost the same direction as the other wing, kind of making the proportioning a little off. Sorry, hard to explain. I'm bad at that. xD;

well i fixed the wings I think...
Made some small adjustments to the dragon to make it a little more buglike.http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a359/dragonknightgt/sprites/insecterui3.png

The wings look much better.

Now it looks pretty good. IMO, I think you should draw a right arm/leg behind the sprite. Since to me it sort of looks like it has only two legs. xD;
Although it still looks a tad bit too much like a dragon more than an insect/dragon mix, but that's just my opinion.

The shading looks really flat. You should use the lightest shade on its head on its arm and leg, too.

And I agree with Sharingan about adding another arm and leg. It doesn't look so bad for the legs, bt it definitely looks like it has one arm.

If I put the lightest sahde on the arms and legs will the lightsource look undefined?The lightsource is supposed to comming from the<top left.

I don't know, does this look defined to you?:

Hope you don't mind me fiddling with your sprites. If you do, I'll delete it from my Photobucket account. I also changed some shading on the hand.

Oh, and now I think you know why I don't use dithering. I suck at it. D:

Yeah you can fiddle with it if you want.Their is no credit needed if you want to give credit go ahead.Anyways I made the arm and tryed to get the shading right without trying to zoom into yours.Here it is.

Looks good. It could use a little more light shading on the added arm, but it looks almost flawless. The other arm really does make it look more balanced.

It really does look much more balanced than the original, I'll hand you that. Like Chaos Emerald said, it needs more light shading on the new arm, but... hey, it's better than before, right?

Its REALLY improving.. only tip I can give is to try to get some shadow just under the front wing.. you shaded the bottom half of the wing (and it looks good) but the body is barely any darker next to it.. just put a small area that is alittle darker and, to me, it would look perfect (nice design btw)

another small note.. this isnt about shading but its a nice tip.. on scratch sprites, try not to put a solid corner (three pixels in a corner to make a point), just make a diagonal duo of pixels only.. it makes it look much more smooth..
