View Full Version : The Un-named Region
3rd November 2006, 1:08 PM
This is my thread, where i will be placing maps for my personal region. I am making all my routes, towns and cities on paint. I have used artistc diferences and places little outtakes from the few decent fakemon i have made and put them into some routes. And before i post my towns, cities and routes in order, i would like to thank Halowarrior V1, as their maps inspired me to make my own.
Town1(most towns and cities are currently un-named and names will be considered)This town is on the bank of the river in the maps centre
Route 402(to the east of city 2)
Route 403(Araphous's meadow)
Route 404(west side)
Route 404(east side)
*New* Port Lativ

eh, the map is ok
i think you need to work on the shading of it (the part of making some places and some places low). it seems unnatural. like how next to the rive there is a sudden cliff O_O. also the shading part doesn't have to be so round and not every color has to make it in. try some strange shapes, and then go with it. in my maps i try to cover a lot of the continent part with a lot of different patterns.
my last suggestion: don't make the entire thing practically at the lowest point (the dark green).
good work, keep practicing

The overworld map has quite a lot of room for improvement: most of it's flat (dark green) with random dykes (as in walls of ground) along the river and lake edges. DON'T use a black outline and I'm not keen on the white bit. Also it's a bit too spread out for my liking - but that's really your descretion.
The towns/routes are okay, I suppose, they aren't quite right but they have good layouts.

Route 403 is up, route 404(west) will be coming up next

Good work, you don't have to have the black lines in your overworld sprites (it's ugly)

Route 404, the west side is up for examining, if i work hard, i may get the other half of route 404 up on here later tonight, if not... it may be sometime over the weekend

anyone got any up to date comments on my maps?

The overworld map looks very flat, I think you need to use more of the 2nd and 3rd darkest colours in the parts that look flat.
I think the normal maps look fine though.
Well done :)

Well, this must certainly have taken a while. I like the idea of the Arcanine route, but maybe it could have been a different Pokémon.
EDIT: Is that grassy bit on the first route in front of the house supposed to be the eye of another Pokémon?

I've been working on a third version of the big map, the one you've all been looking at was my second version, tell we wether you like the version in this post or the first on that i posted
Edit, yes, the little patch is supposed to be an eye of a pokemon because i didn't have enough room for the whole head...

The maps are just edits, not sractches. The Region map needs work though.

Rayquaza777, if you believe my maps are just edits, that's your oppinion, however, they are made with fire red + leaf green parts which i carefully removed from maps that i got from google. I am very aware that my first town is quite like pallet town in some ways whilst the rest bare very little resemblence to any previous towns, cities or routes that i am aware of.
Anyway, my newest location is up, Port Lativ(which has a few things that slateport has, but i didn't know what to put on my old layout)

Your towns and routes are very well done, I always love seeing towns and routes. The map has been improved on, though I can't really crit on maps that well. Overall, well done.

Well, did you ever try scratches? They are a lot of fun because you can make maps as big as you want and any shape you want. You should try them. I used to do edits, and they are not as fun as scratches. My point is, you should try scatches, I would like to see your work on them. (I like to look at maps)
