Who would be better to use, Dugtrio or Rhydon? I'm making a team in FireRed and can't decide.

BattlePikeKing140

Rhydon
Dugtrio is only useful in competitve battling, with it's awesome ability.

13th December 2006, 4:10 AM
I agree...he has a much wider move pool.....unless you really want to have some speed, then go with dugtrio

Leithsumbreon#1
13th December 2006, 4:35 AM
Rhydon. Brute force. Dugtrio is more for batteling real players, because of its ability and speed.

Do you want a set up for rhydon? or/and for Dugtrio?

BigCharizard
13th December 2006, 4:36 AM
If you could provide good movesets, please do so.

Leithsumbreon#1
13th December 2006, 4:46 AM
Rhydon@Leftover/choice band
Adamant/Naughty/Brave

-Rockslide
-Earthquake
-Substitute/Double edge
-Focus punch/Iron tail

The Mighty Wurmple

^If you are going to have all physical moves, then go with Adamant.

Leithsumbreon#1
13th December 2006, 4:54 AM
Adamant= + atck - spec atck <--- for all attacks...
Nauhgty= +atck - Spec Def <--- widing his options instead of hunting down the right one
Brave= + atck - Speed <-- better sub puncher

BigCharizard
13th December 2006, 4:58 AM
Thanks for the set. I'm not sure which I'll use though.

The Mighty Wurmple
13th December 2006, 4:59 AM
It's not like Rhydon is going to outspeed anything anyway..
Still, Rhydon needs Special defense, he has 2 4x weaknesses - Both Special.
Plus he doesn't have very good Special Defense.

edit: Beaten. You may as well use the Sub-Puncher for LG/FR.

On a side note, who would be better, Raichu or Jolteon? That'll determine which Rhydon set I'll use.

The Mighty Wurmple
13th December 2006, 5:02 AM
Probably Jolteon.

Sniper123
13th December 2006, 5:07 AM
I like Dugtrio better
Dugtrio@Choice Band
Adamant/Jolly
Earthquake
Rock Slide
Aerial Ace
Sludge Bomb

pichubros.rock!

rhydon is better than dugtrio in in-game

[Kingdra]
13th December 2006, 6:01 AM
The King (dra) says.

RHYDON!

In-Game

I would use

Rhydon@ Choice Band
Adamant
Rock Head
~ Megahorn
~ Rock Slide
~ Earthquake
~ Double-Edge

Chaos Weavile
13th December 2006, 6:09 AM
Rhydon > Dugtrio. Rhydon is much better. Jolteon > Raichu, same reason

BigCharizard
13th December 2006, 6:28 AM
As Jolteon seems to be the preferred choice, what are some good sets for it?

The Mighty Wurmple
13th December 2006, 6:50 AM
For the Wishpassing set:

Jolteon@Leftovers
Timid nature (+Spd, -Atk)
Trait: Volt Absorb
- Thunderbolt
- Wish
- Agility
- Baton Pass

I think that's it.

BigCharizard
13th December 2006, 6:50 AM
Could I use Substitute instead of Wish?

The Mighty Wurmple
13th December 2006, 7:07 AM
Yes, you could. Wish is good though.

BigCharizard
13th December 2006, 7:43 AM
What would be the best nature for Jolteon?

Frost Nova
13th December 2006, 7:55 AM
Timid, but Modest will do fine ingame. It's not like there's going to be tons of Aerodactyls lurking around.

BigCharizard
13th December 2006, 8:49 AM
Back to Rhydon, which would be better, Rock Slide or Rock Blast?

Scepgatr
13th December 2006, 9:01 AM
I think Rock Slide is better. Its more accurate than Rock Blast. Rock Blast can be more powerful than Rock Slide, but thats only if it hits more often.

aragornbird
13th December 2006, 1:56 PM
Rock Blast's main purpose is to destroy Subs. Since just about nothing uses Substitute, it loses its purposes.

[Kingdra]
13th December 2006, 9:10 PM
I would've said the same thing aragornbird said...People In-Game don't sub so you're better of with Rock Slide.

EspeonBreeder13
13th December 2006, 9:46 PM
Rhydon!
Move set.
Protect
Stomp
Earthquake
Water Pulse

[Kingdra]
13th December 2006, 10:27 PM
Rhydon!
Move set.
Protect
Stomp
Earthquake
Water Pulse
ROTFL!!! That couldn't do anything OMG that's one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

green dragonite17
13th December 2006, 11:38 PM
Can Rhydon really learn Water Pulse, i think it can only learn Surf.

[Kingdra]
13th December 2006, 11:59 PM
It can't xD

BigCharizard
14th December 2006, 12:08 AM
That's alright, I already used the Water Pulse TM anyway.

Was that a serious set btw?

[Kingdra]
14th December 2006, 12:58 AM
It probably was I've seen some pretty bad sets like that...

Chomper
14th December 2006, 1:16 AM
He's probably going around thinking he just made the best moveset around. Don't listen to those people.

aragornbird
14th December 2006, 1:35 AM
Rhydon @Leftovers
Adamant Nature
-Earthquake
-Rock Slide
-Megahorn
-Swords Dance

Rhydon @Choice Band
Adamant Nature
Trait: Rock Head
- Rock Slide
- Earthquake
- Megahorn

yazzel

K-flygon
14th December 2006, 1:59 PM
rhydon... what kind of question is that??

rekt
14th December 2006, 3:16 PM
Rhydon for sure, Dugtrio cant do anything without TM's and IV's.

Reno
14th December 2006, 5:15 PM
jolteon@leftovers?
modest
-thunderbolt
-thunderwave
-agility
-baton pass

rekt
14th December 2006, 5:51 PM

Reno

BigCharizard
14th December 2006, 5:58 PM
Why is an Adamant Rhyhorn so hard to find?

EDIT: Wow, just after I posted this, I got 2 Adamant Rhyhorns. Weird.

K-flygon
14th December 2006, 10:30 PM
lol that is weird..

BigCharizard
15th December 2006, 1:14 AM
Well my team is really shaping up. Here is where they're headed:

Blastoise@Leftovers
Bold Nature
Surf
Ice Beam
Toxic
Rest

Charizard@Lum Berry
Hasty Nature
Flamethrower
Aerial Ace
Dragon Claw
Protect

Alakazam@Petaya Berry
Mild Nature
Psychic
Calm Mind
Shock Wave
Recover

Jolteon@Lum Berry
Timid Nature
Thunderbolt
Baton Pass
Substitute
Agility

Snorlax@Leftovers
Careful Nature
Return/Body Slam (please give your opinion on which I should use)
Brick Break/Earthquake
Shadow Ball
Rest/Yawn

Rhydon@Choice Band (any way to get one in FR?)
Brave Nature (had better IVs than the Adamants that I caught)
Double Edge
Megahorn
Earthquake
Rock Slide

If anyone could suggest good alternatives for BEFORE the Elite Four (i.e. no egg or Emerald tutor moves), it would be greatly appreciated

yazzel
15th December 2006, 6:36 PM
looks good whitout defeating the elite four

BigCharizard
16th December 2006, 4:20 AM
New Snorlax Set:

Snorlax@Leftovers
Careful Nature
Body Slam
Rest
Shadow Ball
Sleep Talk

[Kingdra]
16th December 2006, 4:31 AM
I prefer

Snorlax@Leftovers
Careful Nature
- Curse
- Return/Body Slam
- Rest
- Shadow Ball/Earthquake

The Mighty Wurmple
16th December 2006, 4:37 AM
It's before the Elite Four, so he can't get Curse yet.

[Kingdra]
16th December 2006, 4:38 AM
I didn't say he had to use it right away <.< I just suggested it as a good set...

BigCharizard
16th December 2006, 4:52 AM
I would appreciate any movesets that you could post. I was saying that sets for before the E4 would be the most helpful.

Shiny Machamp Trainer "B"
16th December 2006, 9:49 AM
Dugtrio does have better speed, and I think looks cooler. A Rydon is useful to evolve Diamond/Pearl, mind you.

yazzel
16th December 2006, 11:12 AM
dugtrio has "low" attack (not so low) but i prefer to take rhyhorn

Shiny Machamp Trainer "B"
16th December 2006, 11:20 AM
Good point. Rydon probably is better, especially since it gets a new evolution.

BigCharizard
17th December 2006, 1:51 AM
I just beat Giovanni and acquired the coveted Earthquake TM. I'm planning to use it on my Level 44 Rhydon to replace Dig. Should I save it and wait until Rhydon learns EQ naturally at level 58 (most likely after the Elite Four).

Frost Nova
17th December 2006, 2:17 AM
ReSTalking Snorlax is perfectly fine. It's just as good as Curselax, but you might want Double Edge over Body Slam, since Snorlax has Rest to recover off the recoil.

BigCharizard

I would use Double Edge on Snorlax, but I plan to use it on my CBing Rhydon.

Does anyone have any advice on my Earthquake dilemma?

The Mighty Wurmple
17th December 2006, 2:52 AM
If you feel like training, then raise it to level 58 before the Elite Four. If you are feeling lazy then teach it the TM.
It is better to get it to learn it naturally as you can use the Earthquake TM on better Pokemon.

dragontamer_blake
17th December 2006, 3:46 AM
go with rhydon dugtrio is really only for competitive battles

BigCharizard
17th December 2006, 6:48 AM
Hooray!! Using my team I beat the E4, and none of my Pokes are even Lv 50. Pretty good team I have to say. Thanks to everyone for their input *waits for the damn credits to end*.
