I plan on transfering a Smeargle to Diamond when I get it for my birthday in spring. I want my Smeargle to have a good moveset but not sure what to teach it. As we all know Smeargle can learn(via the Ditto Sketch trick thing) almost any attack,so what moveset do you recommend?

-Spore
-Substitute
-Belly Drum
-Baton Pass

Standard BP set for a smeargle.... usually attached with a Salac? berry (whatever one improves speed) i can't remember off the top of my head

Sturdy ability stops that cold though... as well as anything that might switch

Never use Lock-on/OHKO. it is gay and you WILL get flamed

RSE standard will most likely be the DP standard

Attacking Smeargle? Hypnosis instead of Spore??

If you want to attack with Smeargle and not use OHKO, go for:

Smeargle
@ Salac Berry
Nature: Jolly
-Endure
-Spore
-Endeavor
-Extremespeed/Dragon Rage

lock on sheer cold? That would work I guess. Find it funny when people cry about how cheap stuff like that is. (I don't use those either, but still) Seriously If you don't like someone being cheap then just don't go against them. I guess you could go with:
Sheer cold
Lock-on
Hypnosis
Flamethrower

Now thats Cheap :D

LVL up all your stat then use baton pass.
I think it's a good strategy

It's good in theory but not in practice...especially for someone with no survivability like Smeargle...(I've tried passing the stat boost from Ancient Power using a Togetic...and even with the Serene Grace boost, your stats don't get boosted often enough for it to be a half-way reliable strategy..)

actually it's insane to use hypnosis... such a LOW accuracy sleep move when you could use Spore... a 100% accuracy sleep move.
Sheer cold... yea it's cheap... but it can be countered way to easily and smeargle doesn't have the stats to survive. The set it should have like that which is.....
-Mean Look/Spider Web
-Lock On
-Sheer Cold
-Ice Beam/Surf

mean look or spider web to trap the opponent.
Lock on for the accuracy.
Sheer cold to kill it.
ice beam or surf for the sturdy ability pokemon (as they're usually weak to one and/or the other).
But... Smeargle's stats are too poor to pull that set off appropriately.

yea.... extremespeed is better than quick attack and focus band only has like a 7% chance of activating.

Let's take a look at Smeargle's Base Stats, Master Gatr.
ATTACK 20
SPECIAL ATTACK 20
Yet you think a.o.a sets are good for Smeargle.

Best Smeargle movesets have been posted by DarkSpectrum and PikaEgg. All the other movesets either won't work (like Master Gatr's obviously) or have some minor flaws in them.

Also, don't use OHKO moves, even if it is in-game. It shows you have no skill as a trainer.

hmm... i've wanted a smeargel like this for the sake of it:
@focus band
Water spout(for when at high hp)
Eruption(at low hp)
Endure(to slowly run the foes pp Veeeeeeeery slowly as a last resort or to help with eruption if you can get the focus band)
Frenzy plant(got fire and water so why not have grass too?)

heh, i'd love to have one like this.Water spout and eruption are limited to 2 pokemon each so it rarely pops up.They can be sooooooo devistating with the right hp amounts.

I thought about puttin the elemental hyper beams on a smeargle too... but then I realized that on the turn smeargle is left unable to move... it dies.

...Since when did Eruption do damage inversely proportional to your HP...? The AttackDex says "The higher the user's HP, the more damage caused"...
Unless you meant Endeavor...

Besides, as Extrasensory mentioned, Smeargle's offensive stats are virtually non-existant. So, even 150 base power moves won't be doing much..

Replace Double Headbutt with Endeavor or Reversal and give it a Salac Berry, I could see that working. Endure on the first turn, it gets attacked unless it's some wall like Wobuffet in which case you just Spore it, if it gets attacked its HP goes down to 1. Salac activates, you Spore and Endeavor/Reversal, then kill it with Extremespeed. Only thing is if the opponent wakes up consider yourself dead.

ghosts always say hi to smeargle no matter what set you use, so what is your point?

At least Smeargle can do something to ghost types with Shadow Claw.

it is not worth the moveslot at all just to do 'something' to ghosts.

I liked how a lot of people were suggesting hypnosis which has 70% accuracy, when it gets spore, which is 100% accurate.

Belly Drum/Extreme Speed/Explosion/Spore
Belly Drum/Baton Pass/Spore/Substitute

Any other Smeargle is just full of fail

it passes maxed out attack plus a substitute plus whatever berry that gets activated to a sweeper. If you mean it doesn't do any attacks it is because it doesn't have the stats to.
