View Full Version : who knew breeding was so hard?

18th April 2007, 1:09 AM
alright, i plan on getting a dragonite for my BF team, so this is what i want to get:

Dragonite @anything beneficial to my team, as long as its not lefties.
shooting for lonely or adamant (+Atk, -Def/-SAtk)
-ice beam/t-bolt (need suggestions for which, will not accept anything else)
-dragon dance
-aerial ace/focus punch (also need help)

before i can reach my goal, i need help in planning out and organizing a simple method to getting DD and adamant nature. this is what i got so far:

1) altaria, w/ DD
2) charizard, w/ adamant
3) dratini
4) i bred dratini w/ altaria, then that egg guy with char, and ended up with...
5) a charmander, with rash nature, and none of the moves i need.

there you have it, so you guys do what you do best...

is your charizard a girl? cause uhh if you ended up with a chamander...yeah, its a girl. heres a link with breeding for dragonite http://www.serebiiforums.com/showthread.php?t=191114

1. Dragon Dance: Gyarados -> Dratini
2. Dragonbreath: Altaria -> Dratini
3. Haze: Ekans/Seviper -> Dratini
4. Light Screen: Pikachu -> Psyduck -> Dratini
5. Mist: Wingull/Lapras -> Dratini

Well, it seems you want a DD-nite. Here's what he looks like.

Dragonite @ Leftovers
Trait: Inner Focus
Lonely(+Atk, -Def)
- Dragon Dance
- Aerial Ace
- Earthquake
- Thunderbolt/Ice beam

I say lonely because adamant deducts special attack, which Dragonite needs to pull off Ice Beam and Thunderbolt. Overall, I would suggest Ice Beam, but it depends on your team. You could also make Dragonite a sub-puncher (he makes a great one:

Dragonite @ Leftovers
Trait: Inner Focus
Brave Nature (+Atk, -Spd)
- Substitute
- Focus Punch
- Ice Beam

Also, if you have XD, the Dragonite you get from Mirror B. has Dragon Dance already. That's how I got mine.
- Thunderbolt

^Sorry bout the typo with Thunderbolt. It's supposed to go beneath Ice Beam

SubPuncher Dragonite does better with a Quiet nature, seeming Brave is only boosting the already strong Focus Punch's power.

thunder>t-bolt on DDnite. also, flamethrower and dragon claw is an option>boltbeam, if you wante STAB on subpuncher

^I trust your judgement, although I'm not quite getting the point of thunder. Is it really worth the accuracy deduction? I can see it now: it's the final battle against Salon Maiden Anabel, and Dragonite's thunder misses on Alakazam, allowing him to Ice Punch Dragonite to death.

Aerial Ace will pretty much do the same amount of damage as Thunder, but with more accuracy.

Please don't tell me you intend to outspeed an Alakazam with a Dragonite. Zam KOs it with Ice Punch nevertheless. You'd want something that can Shadow Ball/Crunch/Megahorn.

crudent, this draggy isnt necessarily for salon maiden anabel, but for my team of pokes. anyways, i still didnt get an answer to that question...

20th April 2007, 12:48 AM
Sorry, thought you were asking that. Oh well, my comment was directed to the person who hijacked your thread then.

But SubPunch is best on Draggy.

20th April 2007, 10:53 PM
hey guys i just read the ingame moveset guide and realized my draggy was originally lonely nature (y'know, +Atk, -Def)...so i guess i can keep trying to get an adamant draggy, but then again i guess i need your recommendations on the nature:

lonely or adamant?

i dont know what i want less, Def or SAtk...

so, thats why you guys are here. cmon and help me out here...

Lonely with Thunderbolt, Adamant with Thunder.
On the Dragon Dancing Dragonite, it's best for Lonely/Adamant.

21st April 2007, 4:52 AM
^Agreed. Thunder's power boost makes up for the deduction of sp atk with adamant.

DDNite>All others.

DDnite is cool. so is subpunch draggy. so is CBnite.

dragonite@choice band
-earthquake/double edge
-aerial ace
-focus punch/earthquake

hard to get ingame though

Just thought I'd point this out, Ice Beam is an option for Lonely Draggy if you want to counter things like Donphan or Claydol.

23rd April 2007, 2:03 AM
this is my current dragonite:

draggy@nothing decided yet
-ice beam, which i may change on occasion to t-bolt

thanks for all your help and suggestions.

alright, i think were done here...onto a new thread...

Thunder(Bolt) is better to use on Dragonite because most Water types carry Ice Beam.

Just wanting to squeeze that in ^^;

what would you say if i went up against a claydol with rock slide or ancientpower or something? that was a very bad experience...

With the dragonite you have, you may as well just switch out to a Pokemon that can handle Claydol. Your Dragonite won't be able to handle everything, which is why you need a balanced team.
