I really thought this was an entertaining episode. It was fun to see Gardenia be masochistic and have Carnivine and Cacnea attack her. Also, it seemed to me that Cheryl and her bonded a little in the middle.

Poor Staravia, running into the bushes and getting hit be Leaf Storm has got to be giving it more brain damage.

Well, I'm looking forward to the last of the three Cheryl epis with its "EVOL COMBIIS", and the new art team.

I´ll make it short:

This episode was HIGHLY entertainung to me.

Natane alone is reason enough to like this episode. A highly entertaining, hyper character. Definitely looking forward to the gym battle.

Kojiro had many nice scenes, the Utsubot cameo, the whole motto was brilliant, Takeshi blushing because of Momi sitting on him on him, Nyarth´s Wii-device (after the Wii-mote from an older Iwane episode ^^ ), Hikari punching Takeshi, Natane´s and Satoshi´s (rahter short) battle, the awesome Iwane animation,...the list goes on and on.

Too bad that Cherinbo did next to nothing, just like Momi´s other Pokemon.

It looks like Mitsuhoney will be "cel-shaded" in all of its appearances.

it looked like ash was depressed after losing in one of those pictures, but then again i guess if i were him i would be to,his record sucks in this region so far,i think he`s won a battle like what-three times?(outside of team rocket)

I didn't like this episode, nothing really happened. It lacked a solid plot and the introduction of Gardenia was random. However, I loved how they portraied leaf storm, it was very creative. The animation was good but Pokemon has lost its deep plot and has become into just entretainment.

And I'm pretty burned about that battle between Ash and Gardenia. It was just a watered down gym battle. Not to mention a lame excuse to make him have a rematch with her (at the gym) to get his revenge. Other than that, a pretty solid episode. Loved the dinner Carnivine made of Gardenia's head.

I´m not sure, but I think Natane´s Gymleader-status wasn´t revealed in this episode.

I hope every Gymleader in Shino is handeled like the last 2 because they deserve it.

not ALL pokemon episodes need a deep, meaningfull plot. Some are just there for entertainment...hell,...it IS ( and ever was) an advertising anime after all.

Why was Leaf Storm so creative? It looked like a Leafstorm in the games. The kick-*** animation made it look very powerful, though

Natane already has 1000000 times more personality in her one episode than Hyouta did in his 4 episodes.

The battle itself was okay, but the episode on the whole was pretty entertaining, particularly Natane interacting with Kojiro's Pokes. Definite improvement over last week's, especially animation-wise.

Oh really? Then again you're right, she just kinda jumped outta the blue and had a battle with Ash.

Sorry, Japanese is like another language to me. Oh wait.... :o

I must agree though about the gym leaders having more than a few episodes. I just hope they don't make the losses/Paul battles a habit.

It's a shame Staravia has such a bad record. I blame him; had Ash not captured him, he wouldn't be sucking so much now! ^_^;;

This was not an official battle. I think that was pretty much stated long ago.

Anyway, finally I like Turtwig. I think Ash's Turtwig is now getting a sparkle in the anime. He still boring but less. I liked Gardenia's Turtwig and his technique to battle was really good. Putting the "Speedy Gonzalez" attitude was really entertaining.

So the poor Staravia lost again... not surprise but it was actually funny how they presented that he was defeated. He's funny when he's battling or maybe it's just me.

Gardenia is a pretty cool character and I like how hyper she is. One of my favorites leaders so far. She was so funny with Carnivine and Cacnea. And James... he was cool.

Was Cherubi really in this episode? For like 2 seconds?

Leaf Storm looked poor in the preview but in this episode it really came as a strong, cool looking attack.

Yeah, Ash's Staravia is just really bad. I hope they'll change that in the coming episodes and let it win some more times.

Yeah it didn't attack though. The impression I got was this: When the battle between Ash and Gardenia was agreed upon, and Ash started with Turtwig, Gardenia intentionally sent out Cherubi, never intending for it to do much, just using it to gauge Turtwig's speed before sending out her own Turtwig against it.

Me thinks Cherubi will pull a trump card during the gym battle. Big things seem to come in small packages in the anime.

While we're on the subject, I have to wonder if Roaserade is truely her star pokemon, cause after what her Turtwig did, it would be hard to imagine anything above it.

Staravia losing the way it did was just plain crap, if it had at least hit Turtwig once before going down i wouldn't have cared so much about it's loss. It's bad enough it sucked as a Starly, so they evolve it and yet it still sucks.

Yeah thats why in the speculation thread for this episode I told you not to judge it by the preview since the whole attack wasn't being shown.

It was disappointing to see Mukubird lose like that but there is alot of time left in Shinou, Mukubird will plenty of wins.

I'll post my comments about the episode in a bit.

That Turtwig freakin' dodged an Aerial Ace! I call hax on Gardenia. She probably pumped it up with some super vitamins or something. Pictures don't really express just how fast that thing is. I mean, oh my god. Staravia's coming in, putting everything he has into that Aerial Ace, and Turtwig's just like *dodge* and Staravia's like "OMG!! *crash*" And goodness, Leaf Storm was something else (bets on Ash's Turtwig learning a different, flashier version?).

Yup, Ash and Staravia seem to have synchronized their records XD

The bird has no hope from what i saw, i'm starting to wonder why the writers evolved it at all to begin with. It's one thing to lose to a pokemon but this was a complete and total pwning, haven't seen one this bad since the Grovyle vs. Luvdisc incident.

And goodness, Leaf Storm was something else (bets on Ash's Turtwig learning a different, flashier version?).

Me and a few others agree that Ash's shouldn't get that move until it evolves into Grotle, that move's abit to destructive for this early on, not to mention that it's only going to get him labeled as a DEM.

To be honest, we can consider this battle as Staravia's first official battle so I'll let that loss go. There's have to be a purpose to his evolution and we still have time to find that out.

The pokemon really doesn't have battle experience because now that I remember as a Starly I think he only battled Paul's Starly and then Turtwig which was freakishly strong and even defeated Ash's Turtwig, easily.

If Gardenia's Turtwig evolve I want to see how Ash can really win the next gym.

MEROKOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

...Er, Gardenia, I mean. I'm sorry but ever since I heard that Chieko Honda would be voicing her I've turned into a hyperventilating ping-pong ball because...because...because she is just so awesome.

But Gardenia was basically Meroko in any way - her attitude, her VOICE (<3<3<3), her random squeal-attacks...just everything. Which makes me love her automatically. Her popping up out of nowhere and suddenly decide to leave again (even Brock remarked on that) was quite funny. And of course, there were so many times I had to laugh at her hilarious outbursts concerning Grass Pokémon - especially during the Team Rocket scenes. Or when Dawn told her to back away from James because he was a bad guy and she just yelled, "THAT'S NOT TRUE!" with the reason that a Grass Type trainer can't be bad XD

Speaking of Team Rocket though, they made quite an entertaining appearance this time with their mummy motto (MM!) - even the background music was remixed accordingly.

And while I'm talking about funny scenes...Cheryl is quite a ditz. She was already showing signs of being one in the previous episode, but this time it was quite obvious. Also loved when Brock got to play superhero for her two times in this episode. He sure seemed to enjoy it...

...Forgot about the battle again. Er, it was nothing more than "alright" itself, but anything that makes Ash have one of his little panic attacks gets a bonus in my book. He didn't do very well this time - his orders weren't exactly what I'd call strategic, but on the other hand, he'd barely been given enough time to think of a way to handle the situation in the first place.

Ehem. Anyways, I'm looking forward to more (and most likely last) action from Cheryl, and even more to seeing Gardenia again - and hearing her voice :D - and her Pokémon - and her...argh, I just want to see her. Soon!

As a last note, I'd actually find it amusing if Gardenia's Turtwig evolved during the Gym match, hindering it from moving as fast as before and thus removing the essential trait that made it so strong. Just a random idea that my silly mind gave me, but hey, I'd pay to see that ^^"

Yo, Sushi!

Can I ask you a few things?

1) What was with James mention of Utsubot (Victreebel) a couple of times?

2) I hear Gardenia say "Gym Leader" and "Hakutai", does the gang know she is the GL?

3) What was up with the Nuzleaf?

Sushi

Yo 8D

1) Gardenia offered him to trade his Carnivine for either Bellossom, Vileplume, or Victreebell. The last one made him go all nostalgic and he went on about wanting to be swallowed by one again. I guess that while he wasn't willing to trade, he found the idea of having a Victreebell again tempting. He almost forgot about capturing Mothim because of all this, that's why Jessie got angry at him.

2) No. She was cheeky enough to say, "I heard rumours that the Eterna City Gym Leader uses Grass Pokémon too." :D

3) Nuzleaf is Gardenia's courier. It brought her a message saying that she has to come back for some unknown reason. I don't know whether Nuzleaf really belongs to her, but considering it followed her in the end, it seems likely.

She's called Maria Kawamura. I don't know what Anime your friend knows her from, but her wikipedia article has many of her roles listed so that might help =)

There's one more thing that caught my interest in the episodes. At the beginning, when Ash's Turtwig accidently knocked all the Kakuna off the trees I was so sure that they'd evolve and hunt them down, but was greatly surprised when they didn't. It was when I'd almost believed that they were just randomly brought into the scene that Jessie had to over them ~_~

"No Hope", that is just wrong. Ofcourse it has hope, Grovyle had won battles as a Treeko and Grovyle and then suffered the humiliating loss to luvdisc. However, this was Mukubird's first official battle. Even though grovyle suffered a bad loss it didn't lose hope, it won a few times in the hoenn league beating Katie's Walrein (battle was awesome), it evolved to Sceptile picking up a couple of more wins and even brought down Regirock to its knee. It is definitley one of Ash's strongest pokemon.

I understand what your saying but Mukubird not being able to get a hit in was because they wanted to show Gardenia's Turtwig as a real speed demon, which they did. That also makes Gardenia seem much more of a threat which will make the official gym battle really interesting.
Look at how Taillow was handled, it lost pretty badly to Brawly's Machop and never did anything, but when it evolved and picked up its first win against Winona's Shiny Swellow it had plenty of wins after that and is arguably Ash's strongest AG pokemon.

To say that it has "no hope" is just wrong. The no hope scenario is more for pokemon like Noctowl, Cyndaquil, Totodile.

I am in love with Gardenia. lol
She was just amazing, her moments with James and his pokemon were really entertaining.

Battle:
As sushi said before, there really wasn't enough time for Ash to react to speed like that. Besides you can clearly see that Ash gets frustrated, which often causes him to lose. I had a smile on my face though when Ash grabs his head because he can't get a hit on Tutwig. :)

Even though Mukubird lost, its battle was was funny and entertaining.
From the start when Ash calls it out and it just goes Muuukuuuuuuuu! That had me going for a while. lol
Then when it misses Aerial Ace and goes into the bushes, the noises it makes is pretty damn funny as well.
When it gets blasted by leaf storm and is yelling, man that was crazy. :D

Speaking of Leaf Storm, I dont know maybe it was the animation but the attack seemed to be strongest thing I have ever seen. It seems like someone is shooting their Ak-47 or something. It looked excellent and has become one of my favorite attacks.

I wouldn't mind Ash's Turtwig getting it, especially if we see Ash training it or something like that.

This episode is not just one of the best DP episodes but one of the best overall episodes.

With Meowth's disturbing fantasy in the last episode and Gardenia being masochistic with James' Pokemon, makes me worry about how this creepy story arc will end in the next episode.

I wasn't so sure before, but I think this episode proves that Staravia will be well featured when Ash challenges the Eternia Gym. I get a funny visual of it just snapping when it sees Gardenia again and beating all of her Pokemon single-handedly. Well... I suppose they're probably going to want Turtwig to have a rematch against Mach Turtle... but Staravia will beat the others.

"No Hope", that is just wrong. Ofcourse it has hope, Grovyle had won battles as a Treeko and Grovyle and then suffered the humiliating loss to luvdisc.

The battle scenario is the same but not the pokemon involved, Grovyle had proved itself plenty of times prior to the Juan match so it's loss wasn't as bad compared to this.

When a pokemon evolves, it's evo needs to make a good first impression(aka by f-ing winning in a great mannor) in a non team rocket battle, and it getting complety owned in it's first match by a grass type is a just cause for massive concern for the future, cause i don't like the "torkoal" vibes i'm starting to get.

Come to think of it, i can't recall any other of Ash's pokemon that lost a non TR battle after evolving. Why did Staravia get screwed over?

That also makes Gardenia seem much more of a threat which will make the official gym battle really interesting.

I wonder how in the hell Ash is gonna beat her after how badly she decimated him, i haven't seen him get his butt handed to him like this in a long time, this was worse than the loss to Roark. Unofficial or not.

This episode was very good. It was kinda funny when Brock caught Sheryl. It was kinda cool to see a Cherubi. It was cool to see a Leaf Storm. It was very funny when Gardenia was amazed by Carnivine and Cacnea, Brock trying to save Gardenia, Dawn pushing Brock into a tree hole, and Cacnea scratching Gardenia’s back with Pin Missile. It was interesting to see one of TR’s mechanic things destroyed by a non-attacking move (Leech Seed). It was cool to see a Combee.

I thought this episode was pretty cool with Turtwig vs. Turtwig. Gardenia's Turtwig was fast!

LEAF STORM didn't look so cool. I was expecting a giant twister of leaves, kinda like in Ryuusei no Rockman.

Also, Gardenia kinda had a high pitched voice.

Dear god, what a hilarious episode. This is one of those times where a filler is actually pretty decent.

A few things that should be noted for complete hilarity:
- Cheryl has Brock immunity/ ends up being the "catch" of the day.
- Gardenia has "Grass Hysteria"
- Gardenia actually mentions a trade with James for a Victreebel(I was actually hoping she'd go there.)
- the Kakuna evolve ONLY when Team Rocket is present.
- The Narrator actually going by what a character has said(hasn't happened in quite some time)
- mono-sound for Mummification, back to stereo for normal.
- Gardenia going nuts over both Cacnea and Carnivine.

- Another "Wii" moment with the nunchuk attachment(I found this the best part. I sware, if they decide to make an episode in that Meowth ends up with something looking like the Classic controller, yeah a bit overboard.)
- Combee gets a nice CG-esque look, as well as sounding more like a high pitched flying robot thingy.

Possibly the funniest episode I've had yet to see. So many hints about her being the Eterna Gym Leader it isn't even funny. Of course, knowing how things are, this would be normal. Has there ever been an episode where they find out in advance(no not the season) that said person is actually the gym leader, if so I'd love to know.

Also, I know this may sound kinda odd, but this episode(to a degree) reminded me of the episode way back in Kanto where Ash battles that Samurai guy: - They're in a forest, - There's lots of Kakuna/Beedrill, - Ash and Gardenia both have the same Pokémon.

Overall, I really am enjoying this season. It's gonna be a long one, but if they keep up with these jokes and scenarios, I'm certain it will be pretty decent.

edit: I know that this should just be there to portray her clumsyness, but seriously she starts off being on the ground in a forest between two trees with vines. Next thing you know, she's suspended roughly 4-5 feet in the air with 4 times as many vines than there originally was.

This episode was great! Still kind of annoyed by Cheryl's voice, but it was a really funny episode.

How long do you think PUSA will carry on this "Jessie and her nails" joke??

Very funny episode. You had a totally comic relif moment with TR, not the halft - stupid moments from some seasons back but just pure comic. Almsotas if they did a parody of themself (I thought that for a moment).

Gardenia is one of a kind, I must say that. :) The Ash-Gardenia battle was great. TR as The Mummy Trio was hilarious.

First, hi everyone!

Second, I thought that episode was pretty funny. Have to say I prefer Gardenia's japanese voice though. Her hole Grass obsession was great!

Bah, the last episode left me excited about seeing the castle, and I got up extra early to watch pokemon. How dissapointed was I when the dramatic build up frm the last episode was let down in a heart beat, and it turned into a classic Gym Leader Intro episode. I'm sick of stupid Gardenia, her bad hair and her plant fetish already.

Ah Gardenia, a breath of sweet air amid the horror that is Cheryl's voice. I love all of Gardenia's episodes, she's awesome. :D And not just because she's sweet on James's pokemon, it's because of her enthusiasm too. I like when she declares that a grass pokemon trainer like James couldn't be bad. I also love when she has Cacnea and Carnivine attack her, that was funny. :) Her battle with Ash was great too.

At least Gardenia makes the episode somewhat worth watching.

Can you imagine Turtwig if it evolved into a Torterra, its only flaw was its low speed and by the looks of this Turtwig its gonna zoom zoom zoom!

I don't like grass types that much. I hated how Turtwig beat Starava =( That made me so sad.

Funny episode. It was the debut of my second favourite Gym Leader, first being Flannery. A great Leader with a bizarre but hilarious Grass Pokemon obsession and enthusiasm. Leaf Storm was a bit disappointing though, I was expecting something a bit better. Laughed at Team Rocket in their mummy costumes and their Wii advertising.

Gardenia proved that she may look cute and everything, but that she's amazing when it comes to strategies in battle. I loved this episode because I loe Gardenia and I also love Turtwig, so there couldn't have been a better combination. Felt a bit sad for Ash losing though. :(

As those of you just now tuning in have no doubt figured out by now, while Diamond & Pearl may be my favorite saga, I hardly kiss its *** in the slightest. Episodes have to deserve high marks.

Fortunately, Natane's debut exceeds probably the ten episodes before it. Introducing a gym leader prior to their respective town is a great idea, especially since it gives a chance to really flesh out the character beforehand. And speaking of fleshed-out characters, Natane is undoubtedly one of the wackiest and most vibrant gym leaders in the entire series. Her entire masochistic routine with grass Pokemon is outright hysterical, especially once Kojiro enters the picture. Thanks to some wild Iwane expressions, it's highly entertaining on a visual front as well. I'm fine with the admittedly uninteresting Momi story taking a backseat here, although we do get more insight into Natane's knowledge through it.

The episode isn't perfect; in spite of giving us the classic name jumble known as Muku.MOWER, the battle is pretty lame. I know they were saving the real action for the real gym match, but I'd like to see something longer than two minutes (and I'd also like to see Cherinbo do something). And besides, Melissa would get a much lengthier pre-gym match. Still, this episode is highly entertaining that actually leaves a lot of breathing room for Natane's development once they hit Hakutai City, and Natane is such an amusing character that she gives life to any situation.

I liked this episode and the reason is because of Gardenia really, she really is something else compared to all the gym leaders, she's not my fav but she defiently is someone with a interesting and kooky personality, and I never seen anyone so happy to be hit by pin missle. Although I got a question about Gardenia's hair, at the back that is black hair at the bottom of the red right? It seems a bit weird to me but Gardenia being a pretty one and a interesting personality outcancels that.

I liked the fact that Natane (Gardenia) appeared a few episodes before Eterna City.

Heck I'm glad she appeared in like 4 episodes so far. It was nice to see her Turtwig's speed too. 8/10

Great episode. Gardenia was really nice and I found it funny how she was so obsessed with Grass Type Pokemon, she was like how Brock is with girls. She was also a good trainer and her Turtwig was extremely fast and made Ash's Turtwig and Staravia look like they were moving in slow motion, I can't wait to see their official Gym battle.

I like how all of the sinnoh gym leaders (so far) have appeared more than once during the series. It's nice to have more of a background on the gym leaders.

The battle VS Gardenia was too short. She won too easily.
Ash's still has a lot to improve if he wants to win the badge...:)

This episode was ok... It was cool to see the 2nd Gym Leader Gardenia for the 1st time. It was cool to see Ash have a battle against her Turtwig. Gardenia's Turtwig is stronger than Ash's Staravia and Turtwig at this episode. It was cool to see Cherubi for the 1st time, it's fast. It was interesting to find out that Gardenia's Turtwig knew Leech Seed and Leaf Storm.
