The episode also seems to show cameos of the Sinnoh elite four and champion

well this is the first time some guy from the elite four talked about the elite four..
and Buizel looks amazed from Lucian..

Apparently, Lucien mentioned that someone has to win a tournament to battle the E4, or something...

Foreshadowing?

Maybe, and if Ash does win any tournament, maybe he could challenge the E4.

You would have to probably win the anime Sinnoh League Tornament

Hah, I was wondering how the normally calm Croagunk would react with bad-*** Buizel. And look, we have a rivalry it seem. :p

{edit: I never noticed Buneary was heart-eyed)

Wow...Lucian makes a Girafarig look like it can do something in battle. That's saying something!

Speculation thread was already closed, so I apologize for posting this here. I really hope the humbling that Buizel faced doesn't change its bad-*** attitude.

I hope that this Croagunk/Buizel rivalry is expanded on, because they're probably my favorite Pokemon on the main team right now.

Also the <_> face Lucian's Bronzong keeps making is awesome.

The first part was Lucian's talk with the group was something like: "People who win the Sinnoh League, along with the Hoenn League and Johto League, are invited to join the Champion's League, where my partners and I are waiting".

God knows wether that means that each region's E4 govern their own Champion's League, or all region's winners take part in the same one. The lack of Kanto being mentioned was odd, maybe their version was ditched in favour of the Battle Frontier.

The whole thing reeked of foreshadowing, what with Lucian saying that he will face Ash in the Champion's League and all. (Maybe he's part Xatu)

On another note, I love Bronzong's hovering noise, as well as Meowth's fantasy this time.

I was suprised by how Gyro Ball looked in the episode I thought it would be like a steel rollout but it looks like a spining Focus Punch.

Wow, this sounds fun! I can't believe they might actually foreshadowing a starring role for the Elite Four later on! DP could well be the saga from heaven if it continues not only continuing AG's strong points but also rectifying its few weak points. I could well have a new favourite saga if Ash does make it that far... it does raise questions about whether Tyson got to challenge the Hoenn Elite Four as well.
I wonder if Aaron, Flint, Cynthia and Bertha will also have appearances along the line. Flint seems to be friends with Volkner, and the 8th gym won't be long before this challenge takes place (if it does). We could even conclude the rumours that Agatha and Bertha are related... which could tie her into Professor Oak... and Cynthia can appear in her game cameo places.

Huzzah for the shopkeep!

CYNTHIA? OMG CYNTHIA! *fanboy scream*

When I saw that pic of the E4's on Korobooshi Kojiro's Mukkubird Blog, I jumped up and screamed the above, and then I fell off my chair.

You have to beat the Johto and Hoenn championships as well? Ash lost, though! And if he did go back and win them, it might mean seeing Will, Sidney, and Pheobe, I hope...

(Flint = Afro = Awesomeness.)

Too bad Steel's resistant to poison, Croagunk running in and jabbing his glowing claw up the *** Cannon would've been funny. But Brock didn't battle Lucian, right?

Can't wait for epi pics.

What did TR plan to do?

EDIT: I think I misunderstood some above sentences. Ash needs to beat all three leagues to challenge the Sinnoh E4, or Ash needs to beat each league to challenge that regions E4?

Well, the episode was indeed quite enjoyable. Lots of little things that made it fun ^^

The Elite Four cameo made me happy. He even went on and named each of them, and acknowledged that Shirona was the Champion, too! Big step up from Hoenn and that makes me hopeful. Chances are we'll encounter at least some of them along the road. I'm crossing my fingers for Ooba and Shirona. Ryo maybe, but Kikuno seems kind of dull when you stick her next to a guy with a bright red afro, another guy with bright green hair, and a good-looking Champion ^^;

Buizel and Greggle interaction was funny. Who would have thought? Its rare to see Greggle get worked up about anything, but hey. He's got to have other stuff to do than drag Brock away from Joys.

Buizel kept using attacks other than those Dawn was commanding, and went all emo when it lost. Aww. Hope it doesn't lose its bad*** streak after this...

And Lucian commanding Buizel in the end? I really didn't get what that was about...was he showing Dawn how Buizel should battle or something?

Apparently, Lucien mentioned that someone has to win a tournament to battle the E4, or something...

Really? Niice. That shows that the writers are sticking more to the games than ever. But I'm glad for that. It would make things more interesting than the done-before Sinnoh League Championship where you work your way up as always to win that trophy....

Too bad Steel's resistant to poison, Croagunk running in and jabbing his glowing claw up the *** Cannon would've been funny. But Brock didn't battle Lucian, right?

How would that work out? Greggle would probably get stuck seeing that its completely hollow under there :3

And Lucian commanding Buizel in the end? I really didn't get what that was about...was he showing Dawn how Buizel should battle or something?
Lucien was showing Dawn how she had to be in-sync with Buizel, and both of them think-alike to better syncronize their Team Work, which they did at the final fight with Lucien.

Buizel sad...was friggen cute.

Aww. Hope it doesn't lose its bad*** streak after this...
Next episode shows it with it's arm crossed, so I seriously doubt it. It just learned to work with Dawn better, which was the plot of this episode.

Although, Team Rocket not wanting Bronzong because it didn't have any crazy use that Giovanni could make do with in his daily life was funny, cause...you know, it's a friggen E4 Pokemon with an *** Cannon.

But...Giovanni wearing it on his head was cool. In fact, they could make a whole Tv Series of that.

"Supaa Sentai Dootarangaa!!"

Oh, and the music that played when Buizel fought Bronzong the first time ROCKED! I don't remember it playing anytime before.

So a rivalry between Buizel and Croagunk; thats awesome.

But what really topped this episode was, yes there was an E4 member, but also plotline basis for Ash to acxtually challenge them. I REALLY want to see this.

Huh, didn't expect to see Lucian's Girafarig.
And it's great to see them mention the other three E4 members AND Cynthia is the champion.
Buizel got owned, heh. And TR can't think of a good thing for Bronzong to do for the boss, thats got to be a first.

The following review is HIPPIE-LICIOUS!

- When are they gonna stop this "10th Anniversary" crap, anyways?
- Buizel vs. Piplup - Who's the bigger brat?
- Buizel and Croagunk are like pirates and ninjas. Croagunk is the pirate, BTW.
- A mysterious hippie is reading up on his hippie slang. The tinted glasses hint that he's a stoner hippie.
- The hippie is seen on TV! Likely a modern music video for "Incense and Peppermints".
- Hippies and cowboys get along like pirates and ninjas.
- The hippie tells the gang about the 4 friends he met in 'nam.
- Dawn is challenged by the hippie, who sends out...BRONZONG THE INANIMATE OBJECT!
- Buizel fails to pierce Bronzong the Inaimate Object's multi-purpose insulation exterior!
- The hippie fires the BEATNIK BEAM out of Bronzong's hole!
- Weasels and door ornaments get along like pirates and ninjas.
- Meowth fantasizes about the Inanimate Object's multiple uses, including dance partner, weight, monk outfit, anchor, etc.
- Ballad version of Hikari's Theme, with Emo Buizel to boot!
- TR battle, Buizel has change of character, hippie smokes pot, blah, blah, blah...end of episode.

Decent episode. It was nice to have an Elite 4 member who doesn't appear just to "teach Ash a lesson". It seems as if the writers are actually pushing to introduce the entire Elite 4 this time around, as opposed to just one or two members from previous regions.

EDIT: Finally got the damn post to show up in the thread.

If Ash makes it past the Leauge and challanges the E4 that really would be freakin amazing. I'd love that, any ways the episode was very good. It was a nice change to see a girl member challange the member.

For the record folks, keep in mind the anime's never been too big on foreshadowing. >.>

Episode turned out a lot better then I thought it would be. Satoshi actully got a brain and decided not to fight the Elite Four member, a nice rivalry between Buizel and Croagunk, Bronzong the Terrible's @55 CANNON gets a 10/10, and we get to see a glipse of the extreme smexiness that is Cynthia. Here's hoping she shows up in this league. ./'

So yeah, good stuff, good stuff. Just don't get your hopes up about the Elite Four battles guys.

This epsiode could have been perfect if Buizel was Ash's, it was great seeing how Ash intercated with it. But the episode ended up being another filler with no plot where Hikari (who already does contests) battles Lucian. Not fair. And again one of those Giovanni scenes which I hate so much.

But Girafarig was great! I love that thing.

Korobooshi Kojiro
26th May 2007, 1:27 PM
But the episode ended up being another filler with no plot

The plot was Buizel was being arrogant and not listening to Dawn, so Lucien showed her how she should anticipate Buizel's moves and sync up with each other, which they did better by the end of the episode. That's a plot.

This epsiode could have been perfect if Buizel was Ash's
How do you know? It'd probably just be the same, but with Ash instead of Dawn. >.<

Is there a law she can't battle non-Co-ordinators? Ash can battle co-ordinators in normal battles (see Kengo), so why not vice-versa?

Alot of you are saying that Ash has been told that if he wins the league he will get to battle the E4 (possible foreshadowing). So why did he not battle the that guy? I mean Dawn is still a noob she should of had no chance??????

I would have liked Ash to battle him then loss and want to get his own Bronzong.

Korobooshi Kojiro
26th May 2007, 2:15 PM
Ash asked, but I belive Lucien mentioned he'd get his chance eventually and wanted to battle Buizel (so all you guys yelling that Dawn shouldn't be allowed to fight an E4 member, the E4 member was the one who suggested it).

Wow, that was a crazy episode and well so enjoyed. I was actually excited of Lucian's appearance and actually tells about the Elite 4 which is something that I was surprised.

And what I seen for anything is against that Dawn wanted to battle Lucian, the way I saw it, Lucian seem interested in Buizel, and Buizel was the one who was askin' for a match. Dawn seemed sketpical to me battling him. But either way, at least both and Dawn and Buizel learned to appreciate each other.

One more thing to add...

Buizel was sooooo cute when he was sad. I just wanted to hug it. But I hope he keeps his tough bad *** attitude.

-I don't quite get why Dawn and Buizel started working together better, other than...Dawn wasn't hesistating as much. That's great and all, but doesn't really explain why Buizel suddenly obeyed. At least in my mind. She was dodging less, but she seemed to have fewer occassions to dodge in the first place(and Buizel listened to her commands to dodge anyway). If they were "in sync", why didn't anything seem much different? This might make more sense when I get to hear it in the dub, but...
-Lucien is love.
-The gang's "Hey...*looks at TV*...o.o...:O...!!!" reaction to Lucien walking in just as they were watching him battle on TV was gold.
-Buizel's adorable. Especially when it was going "BUIBUIBUIBUIBUIBUIBUIBUIBUIBUI" in its challenge of Lucien. Or maybe that's a side-effect of having pet cats for so long that you find that sort of begging adorable.
-Gotta love Bronzong's cheesy hovering sound as it floats off with Lucien after the battle.
-But you have to love TR taking Buizel because they couldn't think of what Gio could use Bronzong for even more. Guess just having it battle stuff isn't special enough anymore for JJ&M.

If I got it right, what Dawn learned to do was anticipate what Buizel was going to do, and thus say the right command.

Meaning Buizel's probably still acting on his own, but Dawn doesn't sound stupid while trying to order him around.

Well, I saw this episode just a couple of days ago and well...

-FINALLY! Ash doesn't battle an Elite Four member! I know how those episodes go (or the majority of them). It's nice to see someone else battling an Elite Four member.
-Now with that, it's starting to scare me since it already seems like Ash and Dawn are switching roles, but I'll save my ******* theories for another day.
-LUCIAN IS HOT!!! I know I'm saving myself for Tracey, but there's just something about a guy in glasses I just want to...Never mind!
-Buizel vs. Croagunk was pretty damn funny!
-Seeing as there is at least a mentioning of the Sinnoh Elite Four, this brings some actual hope to see another person from that group. I mean in the past, when one Elite Four member appears, they don't mention any of the others, they just skip ahead to Ash's stupid battle.

*Takes about 9 seasons to see all of Kanto's Elite Four
*Besides Koga and Bruno, no mentioning or showing of Karen and Will
*Drake being the only Hoenn Elite Four we see and no mentioning of Phoebe, Glacia, or Sidney.

I don't know, something to think about in the future.

One more thing, that Meowth dream of Giovanni...Weird.

Buizel is honestly one of the best pokemons of the series right now, probably the best. He's badass and he's so cute even with his attitude. Sad Buizel just made me want to hug him. He's my favorite right now, there's no doubt about it.

It's interesting to me how the "metallic magical trash can" known as Bronzong was so badass. The thing doesn't even look like a pokemon but it's interesting. It's so weird and his attacks are so awesome. I definitely liked the pokemon.

Buizel's arrogance towards the pokemons was great but the best part of it was Croagunk vs. Buizel. Two awesome pokemons, probably the ones with the best personalities in the group are rivals. I love it.

One more thing, Pochama. Get out of my life. They are trying to make us eat the pokemon. I'm getting so sick of him. I loved him at first but seeing him in every episode it's getting tiring. You have a pokeball, use it!

Lucian was great and I liked that he actually can make a Girafarig win. >_>

Anyway, great episode. Looking for the other which sadly enough for me have Pochama in it.-__-

Poor Buizel...

I think Dawn's cursed... Every Pokémon she captures that's strong in the wild seems to get weaker!! I mean, look at Buneary and Pachirisu!!
Buneary and Pachirisu couldn't win at their Contest battles and Buizel put up a crappy fight against Bronzong... OK, I know Elite Four members are strong, but Buizel seemed so much stronger than that when he was wild...

This episode was ok.... I hate that dawn was the one that was sort of ackowledged. It has always been ash facing and connecting with the elite four like lance, prima, and that other guy who works with dragon in the hoenn elite four does anybody know his name? It was when ash faced his shelgon. Yeah buizel did seem to be a lot weaker this episode then the last one. I just can stand or believe that it beat pikachu and turtwig and that dawn caught it with piplup who has absolutely no advantage over it and alot less experience! I think that the trade should happen with aipom and buizel but it probably wont. Not to mention aipom is like one of my favorite pokemon and ash is good with her. I though Lucian looked great though i liked his hair Purple is my favorite color!!! He did look girly though.

You don't know how many battle experience Buizel had at that point to compare it with Piplup. We know about Piplup's development and power so we can say it has more battling experience especially since it defeated Buizel in a fair way using what Dawn knows to do, battling with contest style.

The dubbed episode was a lot better than the others! (If I see one more episode on Cartoon Network such as Like it or Lup it, and other early episodes one more time I`ll....)
I enjoyed watching girafarig get scissor big time! It comes to show that its not bad after all!
HOWEVER...I didnt like the way they said Lucians name. Isnt it supposed to be Lu-si-an
And not Lu-shan?

yeah i didnt like the way they pronouned his name either. It is sort of like how they pronounced Groudon's name was werid too. People that dont think gym battles are the way for buizel to go are crazy it was obvious how buizel feels about gym battles when he was watching the girafarig and scissor battle. Like it or lup it was awful.

Only problem I had with it was Lucian. I saw him talking and I'm like, "She's a guy!?"How could you not know that? Lucian is a male name. He doesn't even have a female figure.

HOWEVER...I didnt like the way they said Lucians name. Isnt it supposed to be Lu-si-an
And not Lu-shan?Just because they didn't pronounce it the way you do doesn't mean it's wrong. There's nothing wrong with that pronunciation. I've heard both before. And considering how it's spelled, the pronunciation is ambiguous.

I like the way Buizel fights. His fighting skills kind of reminds me of Sasuke Uchiha from Naruto.

I did not state his name was completely wrong
I stated that I thought his name was pronounced Lu-si-an.
If they pronounce his name Lu-shan, thats fine. I just dont like how they pronounce it. I certainly dont hate it though. It is ambiguous, I agree. Lets try not to get this into a full-out debate however.

I love that they are foreshadowing Ash challenging the Elite 4. Plus Sad Buizel was the best thing in this episode and Dawn's development too. She learned a lot.

Ok. This is kinda where I had issues with this episode.

First - Lucian makes it sound like you had to be a native of the Sinnoh region in order to challenge the Elite 4. I didn't think it was explained well enough at all.

Second - Right now (don't know about the future), Buizel is Dawn's Pokemon, yet when it was depressed, she didn't do anything to try and cheer it up. Ash and Lucian did!

Other than that (unfortunately they were kind of key points of this episode), this was a pretty good episode. Don't know what it sounded like as Dotakun, but Bronzong sounded pretty good. The Buizel/Croagunk moments were cute too.

I liked the ep, the plot was great it and was interesting that they focused on Buizel. I thought it was good to have an ep that focused on Buizel. It was newly added to the team and they had to portrait him in an ep, wgich they did great.

About Buizels strength, well he did fought a Pokemon trained by an Elite Four, of course he would lose. The part were they explanined what had to be done in order to be über champion/Master was great. I think that foreshadowed the future of the shows plot.

That's the funniest title I knew of, " An Elite Meet and Greet". That's because Hikari(Dawn) challenges Lucian and his Bronzong using her Buizel, traded by Ash after some episodes. Keep it going, Dawn! Your Buizel can do it(if it learned a powerful move)!

This episode made me think of the Jerk Charizard era, with the not-so-experienced Ash having the ultra-strong Charizard that wouldn't obey him. At least Buizel's uncooperative period is thankfully short, but I couldn't help feeling glad that he got his butt handed to him on a stick by Lucian in the first match. At least things improve by the end.

Oh my goodness. I hate Lucian's voice. With a fiery passion so agonizing that it hurts. D:

Aside from that flaming dislike, the episode itself was okay overall. Buizel's personality was really shown off well ^^ lol, the best line was Ash, "Oh man, when you get stared down by Croagunk and nothing happens, then it's really serious!" Truer words were never spoken ^^

Apart from Lucian's voice, this episode was alright. Dawn challenging an Elite Four Member was surprising, but welcome nonetheless. Buizel's rather strong in this episode against Bronzong.

It only took eleven freakin' years, but we finally got our damn explanation about how the Elite 4 operates in the anime. Past Elite 4 members only really showed up for the sake of putting Satoshi in his place, only to never show up again. And while Goyou does the same to Buizel & Hikari here, we get actual insight into the E4 challenge and Champion that acts as potential but not definitive foreshadowing. I really do think it would be unfortunate if this build-up were all for nothing, but it was nice that after a decade of speculation, we finally learned how the quartet is challenged. And Goyou is a pretty cool guy, as was Dotakun quite literally pulling tricks out of its ***.

One thing that does disappoint me is that we see a potential rivalry between Greggle and Buizel here (you can see the hype regarding it in the earlier posts here), but it was never brought up again once. It's a shame as it could have proved quite interesting. It's also funny to see how people pegged Buizel as Hikari's version of disobedient Lizardon, when in reality, her version would come much later in the saga. My other minor complaint is that once TR enters the picture, the episode morphs into familiar E4 episode territory and ends fairly typically. But it's a pretty solid episode up until that point, and while the battle was basically a slaughter, it wasn't over in a flash or anything.

Oh god, it took me forever to find this episode. >>

I liked it though. It was nice to see Lucian, though I did not like his voice. Like Wallace and Steven, his voice didn't match his character (or at least what I had expected); I think he (and the other two) should have had softer voices.

And I never realized until recently, but Buizel is adorable. ; 3;

So Lucian is the first Elite Four member we encounter in Sinnoh? Huh, could have been worse.

I loved that Dawn challenged him to a battle against all odds. I mean, we all knew she wouldn't win but Buizel still fought hard. I liked that.

Lucian gave Dawn and Buizel advice which is what every Elite Four member we encounter should do. 9/10

How could it have been worse? Besides not having elite four member show up that is. It was an ok episode, you could tell early on that buizel and dawn just didn't match up.

Did this episode elude to the fact that Ash may be facing the E4 in the future or what? Lucian was pretty cool, I like how he helped Dawn learn how to battle with Buizel better. I also love Buizel's fighting spirit, he's a great character. This episode was really great.

Not a bad episode, Dawn didn't challenge Lucian Buizel did and Dawn just agreed to it. Although having just caught him I doubt Dawn a beginning trainer would have won against an E4 member.

I wonder, after watching this episode does Ash to have to beat the entire Sinnoh League before he can battle the E4? Or will it just be them (Because you see a trainer battling the E4, although I doubt a trainer who defeated the whole league would get defeated like that)

Lucian's a good Elite 4 member, but I've expected from him to use more pokemon, except his Bronzong.
Buizel can't beat E4 member, especially not in his first battle with Dawn.

This episode was ok... It was cool to see Lucian and his Bronzong for the 1st time. Gyro Ball attack and Flash Cannon look really cool. It was nice of him to help Dawn become closer with Buizel and to adjust to its battling style so that she can get it to listen to her. It was funny when TR decided they didn't want to steal Bronzong because they couldn't think of a use for it.

I really appreciated Dawn's Buizel's tough loner personality here and how he made Piplup and Croagunk mad. Lucian was so classy; I wasn't a big fan of him originally, but he seemed sophisticated and I liked seeing a glimpse of him using Girafarig on television. His Bronzong was also really strong and gave me new appreciation for the species.
