Ash, Paul, Brock, Dawn, Honoka (the Wingull trainer), and Kouhei (the Otaku dude) all made it pass the prelims.

By the way the next matches are set on the brackets at the end, it looks like after Ash and Paul will have to face Brock and Honoka if both win their first matches, and then whoever goes next will have to face Dawn and Kouhei probably.

Nice episode.

A lot of things I am curious about. What was Brock saying when he recounted Paul's Elekid battling Pikachu?

Well what do you know Rhydon really did use surf, and i'm starting to like this Kohei (or however it's spelled) guy, he really knows what he's doing with his Slowking and he's funny with his glasses bit(heck he seems like a grown up Max almost only funny instead of annoying), the girl Brock got paired with seems to have some problems though since he had to help her out the whole fight, and of course Ash and Paul can't get along at all, heck Pikachu(And Ash when Ryhdon used Surf) kept trying to talk Chimchar out of doing what Paul wanted it to do the whole time since he kept making it do crazy stuff. I really wonder if they'll make it past the next battle.

Can anyone translate some of Paul/Shinji's dialogue? What did he say when he was pointing at Ash, or to Dawn, or at the end when they won the first battle?

It seems like the price for the tag battle is a smoothbell? It looked like one. Maybe Hikari wins and uses the bell for her bunny...you know..the bunny that evolves through happiness. ;) She needs to win anyway since she was so upset after the contests loss. But I guess she already is back to normal thanks to Mr. Glasses.

The tagbattle episode was awesome! just awesome. And the next episode looks like it´ll be filled with DRAMA and with a little bit of shinning floor. I miss Maestro xD

So many dialogues in this episode that I really want to hear translated. What was the deal with the girl and Takeshi? Why was he so upset? Is she settled already? He was so cute when he grapped her hand after they won only to be all shy about it directly afterwards...

Mr. Glasses is pure awesomeness as well.

Oh, and I really liked Scyther´s and Magmar´s voices ^^ or koffin´s expression when its rapidspin(?) was stopped by psychic. priceless. Or elekid´s attitude towards pikachu...
The battles were very nice as well, but what I really liked was the character interaction.

It is really interesting that the writers finally handle the plot less episodic. Talking about Shirona, Satoshi copies techniques from contests etc. DP is very suprising thus far ^^

Korobooshi Kojiro
6th October 2007, 3:32 PM
Nice animation, nice interaction, nice battles with some rather unorthodox moves...wow, this episode was good!

*James' fantasy includes Pokemon people want Jessie and Ash to get...hmm....

*Damn! Elekid is a *******! But in a good way. :P

* I really like Kouhei, especially the way he seemed to have everything planned from the getgo. I really think he and Dawn will be facing Ash and Paul in the finals, judging by how the brackets are set up (Brock and Honoka will probably face them prior to that and lose though).

*Koffing suddenly being stopped in mid-air and slowly moving his eyes was major LOL. And Slowking delivering the final blow by slightly moving his finger was the definition of badass. Koffing's trainer was pretty badass as well, he reminded me of a Toriyama character.

*So...um, I'm guessing either Honoka told Brock she was a Lesbian or she had a boyfriend. Either way, it looks like after the battle she didn't care. Brock scored!

*Sudowoodo battling really makes me sad he never does it much. I mean, did you see his One-Hundred Punches attack? That was pure awesome!

*Dawn mentioned Cynthia to Paul, asking him if he forgot what she told him I'm guessing. It seems Paul doesn't take advice that well.

*Hey! Magmar and Rhydon...it's Blaine's lineup pretty much! And Pikachu didn't aim for the horn...but it hit it anyway!?

*I think this is the first time Surf has been used outside of a water battle...somehow Rhydon summoned a big wave outta nowhere...also like how they took in the fact it hits the partner, and had Magmar use Protect.

*Chimchar seemed to get a power up from the heat from Magmar's attack. I think Brock was explaining how Paul's Pokemon get powered up from same type attacks, a la Pikachu powering up Elekid in the flashback.

*Ash taking some lessons seen in Contest is good, especially from a awesome trainer like Zoey. Yeah, you can complain about Ash using "weaker" trainers moves later, but I see nothing bad about Ash starting to use his brain and adapting techniques for his own use.

* Paul seemed to be trying to work with Ash a bit at the end...I mean...Chimchar jumping out in a surprise attack seemed like a great strategy. Besides that, I noticed Ash and Paul were rather independent in battling unlike their opponents, and the other teams. I'm guessing this will hurt them next episode, and they'll have to work better on this.

This episode looks really good! The best DP episode yet cant wait to see it in English! This is what i like to see pikachu just totally rocked in this and that is what it should be i dont know what paul was thinking having chimchar charge into a wave? Fantastic episode that immediately shot up into my list of favorites. Back when only the summary was released, I was a bit peeved that the pairs were chosen randomly - I'd seen it more as an opportunity to strengthen the friendship between two of the heroes - but now I realize this concept is much, much better. The third one doesn't have to be the odd one out, and the battles are much more varied.

Pairing Ash with Paul was ingenious as well, though I have to feel sorry for the guy, seeing how both his friends have a partner they get along with. 'will definitely feel bad for him if he is never able to fully enjoy the tournament until the end, no matter if he and Paul end up winning or not.

Anyway, the episode was pretty balanced between suspense and humor. I laughed at Brock's reaction when Honoka told him that she wasn't interested in younger guys.

It's a bit funny how she was a bit arrogant in the beginning and seemed to know exactly what she did - plus the bit where she told Brock off - but did gain interest (in a neutral sense for now ;)) in him after he had to help her out a lot in the battle.

Dawn and Kouhei were amusing as well. I couldn't help but snort whenever the guy adjusted his glasses, doing his, "he. hehe. 8D".
I can definitely see them proceed to the finals, considering they cover both defense and offense calculatingly and it'll be difficult to break through the former.

I must say I was fooled by Elekid - I really thought it was another Chimchar for the one second it pretended to be nice'n'cute. Turned out the thing was even sneakier than its own trainer, lol.

Speaking of Chimchar - cutest Pokémon evar. The writers make it clear that Chimchar is the "special" case within Paul's team, since it didn't adapt his personality even after everything he's done to it and still cheered with Pikachu over their win or responded enthusiastically when Ash talks to it.

Lastly, I was glad that the question that had been roaming in my mind all along was answered. I had wondered why Paul even entered a tournament that strongly required one to be...er, social, for the lack of a better word. Seems like he only participated so he could boost his Chimchar's power by letting it face other Fire types. Hm...[/random close]

I laughed at Brock's reaction when Honoka told him that she wasn't interested in younger guys.

Lol. But, Honoka really doesn't look that much older.

Ah, so that's what he meant by "power up". I was somewhat right in my assumption I guess.

So, what was Kouhei saying exactly? I heard him call Dawn "kawaii", but I wanna know if it was about her or Piplup.

Yeah, this looks like a good episode. I can't believe my boy Shinji was pair up with Ash. If they lose the competition, then we'll it would be Ash's fault since he's not that good of a trainer.

The MC looks familiar for some reason, but I can't place my finger on who he reminds me of. In addition to the great battles (in spite of some one-hit KO's), I absolutely loved the little things in this episode, like Piplup pecking the heartbroken Brock, Pikachu and Elekid's little scuffle, Brock following his partner zombified, and Koffing's "OH SHI-". If one of the main characters were to win this, I'm really hoping the Soothe Bells prove to have some significance down the road, especially if they're dedicating a three-part arc to it.

Also, Chimmy and Pikachu giving each other the thumbs-up is unfortunately going to give way for more fuel to the "Chimchar should go to Ash" argument. Be prepared, folks.

Oh snap. Two non-snarky reviews in a row from me. Quick, somebody check my temperature. Preferably orally. Not the other way.

koffin´s expression when its rapidspin(?) was stopped by psychic. How can you mistake that for Rapid Spin? The "Gyro Ball" command was easily audible.

*Hey! Magmar and Rhydon...it's Blaine's lineup pretty much! And Pikachu didn't aim for the horn...but it hit it anyway!?Obviously because of Rhydon's Lightningrod ability.

this episode is the first time ive seem wingull in the animeThen you don't watch very often do you?

I laughed at Brock's reaction when Honoka told him that she wasn't interested in younger guys.Is that what that was? First time we've ever heard a girl say that to Brock. XD

It's a bit funny how she was a bit arrogant in the beginning and seemed to know exactly what she did - plus the bit where she told Brock off - but did gain interest (in a neutral sense for now ;)) in him after he had to help her out a lot in the battle.I laughed at how the camera panned down to Croagunk after that scene, and it wasn't readying a Poison Jab, because the girl was showing some kind of interest in Brock for once.

Dawn and Kouhei were amusing as well. I couldn't help but snort whenever the guy adjusted his glasses, doing his, "he. hehe. 8D".
I can definitely see them proceed to the finals, considering they cover both defense and offense calculatingly and it'll be difficult to break through the former.Yeah, it seemed like Kouhei's strategy was, "I'll take care of all the defense, you do the attacking," which worked really well for Dawn once she got used to it. And of course he can come up with powerful attacks of his own when needed too, like the aforementioned scene with stopping Koffing.

This episode was full of win, not only that, it shot up to my favorite one so far.

I just have to say, I wish that glasses dude wasn't just a random character and that we saw him more often because he completely rocks :p

And they give us ANOTHER girl that shows some sort of interest in Takeshi? happy day! Not only that Usokki battling and kicking some MAJOR tail with flail?(pardon the rhyme)

Then we come across Satoshi and Shinji...Ah what a pair, I have to say that Satoshi's battle strategy that he used from Nozomi was great thinking, I mean, In what earlier region would he have ever done that?

This gets a perfect 10/10 in my book, I hope the rest of the episodes in this little arc are good as well.

yeah, from what the pics on the main site look, I think that there are going to be one of 2 outcomes

A-the random Zangoose trainer owns Chimchar, and it eventually goes to Ash after Shinji ditches it

B- or the one that seems to happen nearly every other time here, that Chimchar & Pikachu end up winning the match, but it is proably a Tie between Pika and the Metagross, then Chimchar ends up beating Zangoose.

Personally, I pick number 3, which is the same scenario as B, but with A's ending

This episode was simply fantastic. First off I love this kind of episodes that are full of battles with purposes. Sometimes episodes are just battles that are just not leading to anything in particular.

First off is Dawn’s partner. I don’t know his name but I only know that guy was absolutely amazing. He made me laugh with his thing with the glasses and Dawn’s and Piplup’s reactions were priceless. Plus his Slowking was just absolutely amazing. It had an edge that I love. That thing it did with his finger to defeat Koffing was awesome. I loved Koffing’s reaction too, it was so funny. That guy should be Dawn’s main rival. I like Zoey but we need characters like him in this anime. I hope he’s not just s character for these episodes arcs.

Wingull was actually really cool and Sudowoodo was absolutely amazing. We need to see it more often, his style of battling is amazing and it’s so funny when it runs.

The best thing of the episode was Chimchar. Paul is really crossing the line with its training and looking in the preview he’s even worse. Chimchar looked awesome and I love how he used the fire to power up his move. Still I liked how Pikachu tried to stop Chimchar but the awesome monkey just obeyed his trainer.

I know some people might complain but Ash using Zoey’s strategy to stop that Surf was actually pretty neat. I like that he can take strategies from other sources and accommodate them to his style. First Dawn and now Zoey. Everybody has a different style of battling and everybody has different strategies so there’s nothing stopping him to learn more.

It was definitely one of the best episodes of this season and one of my favorites overall.

Even though there was a lot of awesomeness to this episode, the one thing that probably stands out to me is the battle with Rhydon.

Pikachu uses Thunderbolt. And it gets drawn towards Rhyhorn's horn from Lightningrod. And it does nothing.

It's almost like the anime writers were asking to be forgiven since no one will ever let them live down the "aim for the horn" incident. xD

First off, Paul is awesome. It was so good, seeing him again. Elekid and Paul's face when Pikachu shocked Ash was nice to see. Poor Chimchar, he tries so hard, I hadn't even thought of Paul entering to meet fire-types, I hate his methods, but they smart. I love Ash/Paul little fights. Sadly, they work good together with separte efforts, the two thumbs up from the pokemon.

Man, Holly was hilariious "I don't fall for younger men", girl sure knows how to put Brocko down. Aw, Brock was so sweet, apologizing for grabbing her hands, love how Croagunk is just there, incase Brock needs a little Posion lesson on not flirting.

Conway is very...interesting, and by interesting I mean kinda creepy. He reminds me so much of Max in a way, it's weird, I wonder if Max would look like that when older. Also, I'm kinda surprised that Brock/Ash didn't comment of it. I have to admit that Conway and Dawn make a tag team, Dawn for attacks and Conway for defense.

"This is no place for those guys to fight"...I nearly snickered at this, Ash shouldn't really be talkin', since him and Paul are doing pratically the same thing, only a bit worse.
That was pretty smart, using protect for Magmar when surf came into play.

I give it a 8/10

Well, normally I don't tape and review anymore and I'll wait for youtube (like waiting to exhale) to upload. Hell, most of the episodes I see are all of the episodes with Rhonda in it.

But that's a different story! Time to review.

-Conway...*squeals* I spent the whole night squealing at him. He's got this cute charm to a smart play-by-the-book type. And because HeatTagshipping is my second favorite Dawn shipping, I saw so much of that ship that made me so happy.
-Enta was pretty good (for being a perfect rip-off of the Mayor from the Orange Islands but basically the polar opposite of that mayor. He's like that mayor mixed with Lillian! :o
-I still cannot stand Paul for the life of me. Tried to like him, but that's never going to happen.
-Dub names for Honoka/Holly and Kouhei/Conway, not bad. I knew that was going to be Honoka's name for some reason. As for Kouhei, it'll take me some time before I use his dub name, but very nice...AND HE SOUNDS LIKE HARLEY! *squeals* So cute!

Another excellent dubbed episode. The anger that Paul portrayed was really good, I would have thought they would have ruined that emotion. Some music was still intact so that is an upside. And like the original version, it was comical and intense all throughout the entire episode. A definite thumbs-up all the way.

Lol I remember wend pikachu beat Rhydon in Cinnabar island gym by doing a thunder bolt attack on rhydon horn

Wasn’t that Metagross a little tiny?

And how did rhydon did a surf attack whit not water isn’t the Pokemon anime battles to be more realistic than the games?

Good stuff:
Dawn's reaction to Glasses Guy.
The mother going " Don't stop and don't look" to her son when they see Team Rocket.
The Roughneck's accent, and his being paired to a Lass.

That scene with the mother must have been one of the cut scenes in Australia (Stupid Toasted TV, apparently they cut alot of stuff f rstupid ads).

But anyways, lately in this series I have started to like a quite few episodes and this one is no difference, I am not sure why thought, maybe there's oemthing different I dunno.

I noticed that too, good thing I managed to have found another source and was able to see it (maybe I should go with C_P from now on...).

Anyways, let me just say that these three episodes were incredibly well done. Knowing certain events were about to come didn't change it, in fact it made me look forward to them.

I gotta say that the nerdy guy was pretty interesting, seeming to represent the "leetist" of the games. And, might I add, his Slowking's safeguard actually looked surprisingly similar to the one used in the GC games. Also, I'm not sure if anyone else caught like I did, Conroy seems to have been voiced by BF Harley's VA. You have to listen to it carefully, but yeah it's him.

The girl that Brock was paired up with was rather interesting. I laughed Croagunk was just about to use poison jab, she interjects by saying she doesn't fall for "younger men". Huh? So that would make her how old??.

Then of course there's the pairing between Paul and Ash. Wow, total opposites battling. This was by far the most tense event of the entire thing. Such a cold character, despite the fact that he was using Chimchar.

I'd like to point out that throughout the entire tag battle arc, there were many, and mean many interesting attacks used. Like for instance, Hammer Arm in this episode. I also found it interesting that they actually used "LightningRod" for Rhydon's ability.

Wow, just wow. Now I've got to quickly type my response for the next topic.

See ya there!

Oh man, this episode (and the other two in the three-parter) had a little bit of everything good. Dang, I haven't been this inspired by an episode of the anime for a very long time. Really, the characterizations were pretty good.

Holly was so cool. I loved her Wingull and the way she and Brock worked together. In the end, I actually began to seriously ship these two. I'd love to see them meet again someday.

Conway was also a highlight. He had some interesting Defensive strategies, not to mention that he's a frickin' SUPER NERD. I'd always wanted to see one of those crop up on the show, as in, an actual one and not some bland looking dude with glasses. I also loved how Dawn was all... ::Twitchtwitch:: when she saw he was her partner.

Paul and Ash being paired off was actually handled well. I really love how Paul was all out for himself. X"D

I rate this episode a solid 10/10. People, next time it's on TV, watch it. And I hope the writers pull off more episodes like this one.

Personally, I thought it was a big hint when Paul said he was in the tournament looking for fire types. Yet Ash and co. seem to miss hints like that, just as they always do. How could no one notice that?

This was a great episode, and a great begining to the great tag battle arc.

The new characters were great, and Paul was really at his best worst.

The battles were cool, I especially liked Wingull/Sudowoodo and Pikachu/Chimchar. Surfing Rhydon was awesome.

I laughed so hard at Elekid fooling Pikachu, it was my favorite part. I mean nothing in this show from recent memory other than the great kanto episodes has made me laugh so hard, elekids face was PRICELESS!

There are a lot instances of that happening like Water pulse, it could be some thing that causes them to store thousands of gallons of water, or their bodies are capable of creating water spefically for the move.

It's impossible that a Rhydon could use a Surf attack, but it counts because some Pokemon could learn the wrong moves too. Plus the title of the episode-well, it's funny and so odd. Here when you tag, you're the it, like the name. If Ash and Paul tagged managing to beat other tag-teamed trainers, they're the it(or the winner of the battle)!

I actually really enjoyed this episode. Brock, as usual, was brilliant with his romantic act. Some of the strategies other participants used were brilliant as well (Magmar using Protect while Rhydon used Surf was genius). I am impressed way too easily

Funny that this is only the second time in the history that Brock gets shot down by a girl because he's too young for her (Officer Jenny of Cerulean City in the 7th episode was the first one). At least Holly changes her mind about Brock as the three-parter goes on. BTW, is there a name for a Brock/Holly ship? Let me know.

Conway is interesting, but that guy is just plain creepy. And we'll be seeing him again soon. Yikes. At least Paul was compelling throughout the three-parter, but it definitely makes it hard to like him.

I really like the tag battle arc and the characters introduced in it. The only reason this first part is the weakest episode of the trilogy is because it's more introductory material than anything. Still, it gives us a good idea of each team's special quirks. For one, Satoshi and Shinji is the ultimate nightmare team, which not only sets the stage for Hikozaru's "betrayal", but makes for a very interesting team dynamic in general. Yet Kouhei and Hikari are perhaps the most entertaining duo of the bunch. Kouhei is simply a hilarious character in general, from the various unexpected appearances that often involve perverted vantagepoints to his overall creepy demeanor and laugh.

Takeshi and Honoka are also a good duo, although they're the one pair I wish more was done with in this arc. After all, Takeshi never gets to do much of anything, and they could have really enhanced his involvement through Honoka and the fact that she doesn't find him completely repulsive. The battles in this episode are okay, but nothing special considering how they're brief preliminary matches. I do like how this tournament uses an array of NPC game trainer designs, however. Basically, this episode is a set-up for greater moments in this arc, but is still very solid.

B+

He wanted Chimchar to gain experience probably. Paul isn't a showoff so he didn't need to use his strongest Pokemon.

I liked the fact that it was Filler with a purpose; to showcase Paul, Ash, and Chimchar's bond.

Conway's debut. I thought he was creepy before but now he's cool. I think he likes Dawn. Anyway, great way to start off the the tournament. 8/10

One of the difficulties of daily writing for me is trying to remain sincere and not fall into the trap of writing to impress.

Well, on to this episode. Cartoon Network showed all three episodes of the Tag Battle arc in a marathon when I first saw these, so I tend to think of them as as one episode, even though I should not. The Tag Battle tournament is the second "side event" for our heroes (the first being the dress up competition won by Brock and Croagunk); it is also the "episode" I am not quite sure whether to call one of the 3 most influential ones in Sinnoh (I am sure there are two, the first being Cynthia's intro). Regardless, though, the Tag Battle tournament is AMAZING, and even if it has little impact on Ash in the long run, it is one of the best stories (if not the best) Sinnoh has to offer.

The intro of this episode does a world of good for Zoey, who redeems herself for her steely reaction last episode to Dawn's first round loss in the contest. Turns out, she was more sympathetic than she showed, and the result of that is Dawn finding herself being handed an entry card by Ash for the Tag Battle tournament (Ash and Brock already said they were going to enter last episode). Dawn is surprised that Zoey discussed this with the guys without saying anything to her, but Ash says it doesn't matter since the idea is a good one. Eventually, after being encouraged by everyone, she accepts the entry card from Ash. I wish Zoey had been able to express herself better last episode in person when she had the chance, but at least this off-episode discussion with Ash and Brock is something nice, too. Maybe this shows how difficult it is for Zoey to say something comforting when her habit is to be sarcastic and bossy? (Laughing) I never thought of it this way. One other thing I want to say is this scene is one of my favorite interactions b/w Ash and Dawn. Ash does what Zoey cannot do, and that is put on a smile while trying to talk Dawn into entering the tournament.

So everyone is in, and off they go to the tournament. When the pairings are done, Dawn is paired with Conway, who makes his first appearance in the dp anime; Conway is probably the second of Sinnoh's truly memorable rivals to have made an appearance in the dp anime up to this pt, with the first one of course being Paul. Speaking of Paul, that is whom Ash is paired up with. Brock is paired with a girl COTD, who lays down the law that there will not be any romantic thing b/w them (a depressed Brock is pecked by Piplup). Oh, I just forgot how amazing this episode is! When Ash finds out he is paired with Paul, Pikachu trys to make peace with Elekid to set an example for the two trainers and is given a cheap shot. Pikachu gets back up and is ready to unleash a thunderbolt, which Ash tries to stop and ends up taking the hit. So many great moments in this episode. Well, again, the pokemon of Ash and Paul make this rivalry work; we are still at the extremely chippy stage between the two, so hence Pikachu's and Elekid's "fight."

And then we get to see all 3 teams' 1st round battles; it is amazing how much the writers can fit into an episode when there is no real Team Rocket plot to eat up time. Conway's battling style is shown to be very technical; he provides the defense while leaving the offense to Dawn. Brock's battle is pretty fun as well, and in the joy of celebration he grabs the girl COTD's hands and then lets go as he remembers what she said. But she grabs his hands right back and says they are a great team. Amazing, entertaining stuff this all is. Then Ash and Paul take to the field (I'm ignoring what Dawn said about Cynthia b/c I'm not sure at all where that is going; that's something to watch for at the League), and the battling atmosphere rises to the a new level. Their opponents release a Magmar and Rhydon, while Ash and Paul go with Pikachu and Chimchar. Oh yeah! Chimchar is the main reason Paul is entering this tournament as he is trying to power up Chimchar's flamethrower by battling fire type pokemon (I think this episode marks the first time Chimchar is seen using flamethrower, which would be an improvement; for sure, though, Ash does remark how much stronger Chimchar's flames have gotten- Chimchar has put in some tough, honest training). Well, the battle gets under way with Pikachu's thunderbolt at Magmar being absorbed by Rhydon's lightning rod. That's no good as it leaves Pikachu pretty much reliant on Iron Tail in this battle. Paul, though, is able to implement his strategy for this tournament, as Chimchar takes a Lava Plume from Magmar to power up its flamethrower. It's still not able to penetrate Rhydon's defenses, though, and Pikachu has to come to the rescue with an Iron Tail. This brings things back to a standstill now, when the opposing team unleashes a combination that left me absolutely stunned when I was watching this episode for the first time: Rhydon uses Surf while Magmar uses Protect. I never imagined something like that would be brought out in an episode like this, and really I felt like the intensity of the match was befitting something I would expect to see at a Pokemon League (and I can say, having seen Ash's first battle in the Sinnoh League, I think the battle in this episode got the atmosphere much more right). Paul orders Chimchar to take the surf head on with a flame wheel, much to Ash's and Pikachu's dismay as they realize what that means, but it suits Paul's battling style: power battling, with not much dodging other than Protect. Ash puts on his thinking cap and, remembering the appeal Zoey made at the last contest, has Pikachu use Iron Tail at the base of Rhydon's wave to disrupt the surf, and then follow up with an Iron Tail on Rhydon to ko it. Chimchar and Pikachu team up then to knock out Magmar.

This episode is just fantastic to watch.

The reference to Zoey during the battle was not too bad, since the move was a "It fits!" thing and not a "Zoey's amazing!" compliment. And Ash made it work, so...

Conway and Dawn is one team is a good idea of the writers. The could get along pretty well.

This episode was good. It was cool to see Ash, Dawn, and Brock participating in this Tag-Battle competition. It was interesting how Ash ended up being paired with Paul. It was very creative for Magmar to use Protect while Rhydon did Surf as a combination. It was cool to see Lava Plume used for the 1st time. Brock's partner needed alot of his help to get through the 1st round. Dawn's partner was definitely a very useful battler who basically protected her Pokemon and then attacked the opponents.

I don't know why Zoey cares so much about Dawn, that doesn't really make her a rival but more friend wise.

Dawn: "Fact of the matter is both trainers and pokemon have to constantly think about each other in a tag battle, that is what Cynthia said"

Paul: "When a light meets another light, something will be born"

Dawn in no way was gonna figure out that perplexing riddle & what he meant by it. Paul's shallow attitude & the way he treats Chimchar makes me feel sorry for it.

I liked that fact that Ash's Pikachu and Paul's Elekid still didn't get along here, and seeing Dawn and Conway slay that Scyther and Koffing was cool; I loved Conway's tactical battling style and then Dawn's smitten reaction after their victory. Holly and Brock winning their match was fun as well, especially since Holly was all enthusiastic about Brock.
