That's right, it's the brand-spanking new version of the Rock and/or Roll club!

http://i20.*******.com/2m7euio.jpg
http://i20.*******.com/2m7euio.jpg

RULES:
- Well, for starters, don't join unless you love rock. Of course, that includes several sub-genres.

Rock, Rock and Roll, Hard Rock, Soft Rock, Metal, Heavy Metal, Death Metal, Punk, Pop Rock, Whiney Emo Rock, Classic Rock, Country Rock, Grunge, Hair Metal, and any other type of Rock you can possibly think of.

- Follow all the SPPf Club rules and regulations. Read 'em, if you haven't.
- If you're going to join, PLEASE ACTUALLY POST EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE. There's no point in joining if you never return.
- That's pretty much it. This club gives you a bit of freedom to what you talk about. Naturally, rock music will be the main topic, but feel free to talk about other things, too. Just don't spam, please.

WHEN JOINING:
- Tell me your favorite band. Really, you have to. If you don't, I won't add you to the list till you do. It'll be posted after your name on the list, like mine is below.

Link for everyone :D (http://youtube.com/watch?v=gHOBdjyY-X0)

The intro is pretty cool, not what I was expecting.

40 seconds in, and it's getting really good. Loving the bending.

Vocals are.. "Unique" : D

In a good way of course.

The Chorus is nicely done, the vocal style also changes, sounds slightly like Matt Heafy from Trivium.

Guitaring is really nice.

WOW. Solo just after the first chorus was unexpected. It was also pretty good, took me by surprise though.

Second verse is wuite short, but it fits that way, gets back to the awesome chorus quicker : D

Yeah, another solo after the chorus. This one is more organised and better IMO.

The main solo sounds pretty good, and also rather simple. I'm sure I can hear twin guitars in it.

Back to the chorus, and it gets catchier everytime I hear it.

Are the guitars in Drop D?

anyway, I rate this song a good 8.3/10.

Reasons above.

Hmm, not the best vocals ever, but I love the guitar parts. That'd be an awesome Guitar Hero IV song. :p *shot* Nice solo, as well.
Pretty good, overall. I'll give it a 4 out of 5.

Info on my rating system.

1= Sucked. No other word for it.
2= It had it's good parts, but overall it wasn't so great.
3= Don't mind listening to it, but it's not good.
4= Good song!
5= This is definately going on my MP3 player.

first i will talk about my videos

The Almost-Southern Weather ever heard of Underoath? well their drummer is singing pretty good voice eh? well this is sounding like typical emo metal...wait did i say typical? well its pretty good nice follow-up from 'Say This Sooner' yellowhat dude might like this song 4/5

Linkin Park-Shadow Of The Day they used to rap. didnt really care for their rap. now on their new cd only two songs have rap in them. this isnt one of them. Chesters voice without screaming. nice melodic voice eh? its a good video. not to big on videos that dont have thew sound taken away from it though. dsaw them in concert and they were a bloody good show. a good follow up from Bleed It Out 4/5

Serj Tankian-The Unthinking Majority hey its the singer of SOAD ready to make more interesting videos about wars and whatnot. well heres another interesting video about dem damned wars and that damned whatnot. this one isnt little kids like the last one(Empty Walls) but little toy soldiers and an ugly freak with his brains blown out of his head shoving pills down his throat suppossedly "making life more tolerable" well its a good video. something youd expect from Serj. the some screams. alot. so the song gets a 3/5 while the video gets a 5/5 i urge you to check it out

Avenged Sevenfold-Almost Easy HELL! this is my favorite song right next to Welcome To The Black Parade! Hellish Song! Freakish Video! Killer Hair! im lost for words. Synysters guitar solos keep gettiing better and better and the video just threatens you to watch it so i demand you all to watch the demonic video WATCH!!! 5/5!

Foo Fighters-Long Road To Ruin Dave Grohl or as they vide says, David Grolton who iis best known for his drumming in Nirvana and humoric videos in Foo Fighters. this one is a humour blowload. Based as a Soap Opera in the 70s with Daves hair whipped up and crazier than ever they give you Long Road To Ruin! A great follow up to my second favorite song of all time right next to Famous Last Words, The Pretender we have a good song + a great video = 5/5!

next time you might get a CD Review from The Smashing Pumpkins! so stay tuned!

Best rock music video?

Draw between Just by Radiohead and Street Spirit (Fade Out) by Radiohead. The first is both clever and funny, the second is serene and beautiful.

Ech that cover of Holy Diver was awful... leave the classics alone.

Also who covered Run to the Hills? I swear to God I will find them and dismember them, leaving nothing but rotting cadavers in their place. NO ONE can cover that song. The original version is far too awesome to do justice to, it doesn't need justice doing to it.

Sam... the ultimate metal fan eh? We'll see about that :)

what does everyone think of this band Blind Guardian, they are a German power metal band and I fething love them. When I first heard them I wasn't too into them but they've grown on me and now I don't think I could go without them.

The song is Turn The Page which is one of the best from their new album.

Has anyone here ever heard Iced Earth. Their like an awesome mix of Iron Maiden and Judas Priest with some harsher stuff thrown in. They've been going since the eighties but have never really made it into the public eye.

They've also gone through loads of line-up changes, for example the singer in this latest video isn't with them anymore but an older singer has come back.

I've only got their latest album Framing Armageddon and it's fething awesome. It's part one of a concept album based on a really cool sci-fi story.

The song in the video is Ten Thousand Strong. What do you guys think of it?

I used to like Oasis before I got into metal. I still think that they're OK, but I've moved on from them a bit now. I might have to learn that song on guitar for coursework next year. It's an attempt to get "Down with the Kids" by including Indie and Happy Hardcore in the curriculum. My music teacher trys to be DWTK a lot. He takes one look at me and my other axe-wielding, long haired friends in a corner of the classroom and makes a bad joke about death metal or iron maiden, and we humour him... But yeah, that song + video is pretty good and its a cool song anyway.

Christmas was good to me this year. I managed to get The Day The Earth Shook: The Absolute Power which is a two disc special edition Manowar DVDd showing their performance at the Earthshaker festival in Germany... FETHING HELL, THAT WAS THE GREATEST EVENT IN MUSIC HISTORY. **** Live Aid, ****, Live Eight, **** Woodstock, **** everything before or since that show...

I'm still in awe, Manowar played perfectly throughout, they wheeled on a 200 piece chior and orchestra set, they introduced all four previous band members and played Battle Hymn as an eight piece: three drummers and three guitarists *drools.

I can't tell you just how fething awesome that concert was... and I wasn't even there. At the end when the cameras panned over the front row of the audience people were crying and hugging each other, there was just such emotion, you could almost feel it just through the TV set.

[anti-rant over]

They're an old Grunge/Punk/Sludge Metal band that have been going for a while. They were friends of Nirvana, and a lot of modern bands really like them. They had this tribute album called "We Reach: The Music of the Melvins", and it has Eyehategod, Strapping Young Lad, Mastodon, Dillinger Escape Plan and a few other bands on it that I recognized. I checked them out, and they're pretty good if you like that kind of stuff. Very weird band...

Can I join?

My favourite bands are My Chemical Romance, The Used, Anberlin (I know), Bad Religion (punk counts?) and Lostprophets.

Also, I have the longest "emo fringe" I have ever seen myself, and I am learning Guitar at home.

I live in the Netherlands, if you were wondering and make 3d art.

Might try to find VH1's 40 Greatest Metal Songs Of All Time and post it on here Yes, because everyone trusts VH1 to know anything about metal.[sarcasm]

Let's face it, the mainstream media knows next-to-nothing about heavy metal, I would bet big money that most of the songs on that list will belame nu-metal tripe or basically any metal single that made money... come on people, Run to the Hills is great but there are so much better Maiden songs out there.

Bearshaman
19th February 2008, 12:49 AM
Battlefield is a pretty awesome song...a lot of Blind Guardian's stuff is just so bombastic and melodic-yet-metallic it comes off as sounding very "strange". The first time I heard "Nightfall", I listened to it for literally an entire night before I decided I absolutely loved it. On top of that, every Blind Guardian album is unique, some heavier, some more melodic, some simpler, and some very complex. If you like "Battlefield", try "Soulforged" (a song about a Dragonlance character...their lyrical content is all over the place) off that same album. On the other hand, the song I mentioned earlier describes the philosopher Nietzsche slowly growing insane and dying. As for Falconer, that's a band I got into last year, pretty different stuff with the baritone vocalist singing over power and speed metal, comes off sounding very original and awesome I think. I love "Mindtraveller" from them, although their whole first album is pretty good. I've gotta get going to work, but I'll check out some of the tracks you guys suggested when I get back tonight, I love to check out new music.

Tim the turtle

Ok I don't know if this song fits in this club but I'll give it a try. This is Mitternacht (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXytaD5AKyM) by E Nomine. The music is techno but the vocals are an awesome mix of harsh German spoken word and Gregorian chanting. It's a really odd mix but it works really well. And you all know I'm a metal/hard-rock purist so you know that it needs to be pretty damn rock for me to like it.

YellowHat
19th February 2008, 1:42 AM
I like it. I agree, it's not rock, but it's some pretty heavy techno.

I would like to join please. My favorite genre is kinda classic rock like AC/DC, Guns and roses etc. Also big metal fan again classic like Iron Maiden and Metallica. I also like a lot of new music like Foo Fighters, Dragonforce. But i love good music such as Hendrix, Led Zepplin, Dire straits.

If i had to pick a favourite band from all these i would have to say AC/DC.

As for songs with easy guitar parts:

Smoke on the water by deep purple
Crazy Train by Ozzy Osbourne

I would like to join to ^^

My fave band is The Scorpions (old period with Uli Jon Roth mostly). Apart from that I'm a big Rainbow fan (Dio period) and of course Thin Lizzy.

Not to forget the "standards" like Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, etc.

Apart from that I'm learning to play the guitar ATM but I got a pretty beat up Hondo so I'm getting a new guitar soon. (hoping to sell my Star Wars collection to get enough money for a Epiphone or something in that direction).

And as far as easy playing songs are concerned I don't know many yet sorry T__T

Aight, welcome ronniesafc and pajama. I may add Crazy Train to the list.

I don't think Zeppelin are overrated. I love them, and they've got loads of awesome songs. I don't even know if I have a favorite, though if I were forced to choose it'd come down to the 3 I listed at the bottom of this post. But they deserve to be as popular as they are.

"Ramble On"- Led Zeppelin (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLkOE4XDBis)
"Gallows Pole"- Led Zeppelin (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3osxtLPhhY)

Isn't Over the Hills and Far Away a Gary Moore song O_o?

@Pajama- Gotta love Rainbow, forefathers of modern power metal. Also gotta love that Dio, still one of the best clean vocalists in metal.

Also, I think Nightwish did a cover of that "Over the hills and far away" song as well...pretty popular tune.

As far as Zeppelin goes, never took the time to find recommendations on where to start with them, gonna have to check some of the songs you guys suggested and see where I stand on the issue.

Achilles Last Stand (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rq-XVONVX7k&feature=related) - Basically epic power metal before it's time.

Over The Hills and Far Away (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_swFHp-0_sY) - Best song IMO

Kashmir (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTaOvzZKRxA) - Come on you should know this one

Hey, I have heard some of those Zeppelin songs on the radio, having checked them out...when I first heard Manowar's "Die for Metal" I thought some of the riffs were a bit similar to Kashmir, although I didn't know that it was a Zeppelin tune! Anyhow, Zeppelin seems pretty cool.

As far as concerts go, well...I missed Sonata Arctica due to school and work this month, but I may see Nile next month and I'm definitely seeing Symphony X two months from now. Shortly after that I plan on seeing King Diamond with Cellador...wish I could get out for the Magic Circle Festival myself, still haven't caught Manowar or Rhapsody live! (They only played east coast U.S.A...not that I can blame them with all the mainstream rap and crap metal popularized over here) Unfortunately, I believe my brother who lives in Germany will have returned to the states by then and I'd have nowhere to stay... oh well...

Just got back from my concert and let me tell you about it

Opening Performance:Hurt: Wasnt expecting them but they put on a nice show. Good to warm me up to Seether. They only played 4 songs but when he pulled out that electric violin he hammered it!!!! It was also a good light show and the guitarist nearly gave the lead singer a concossion with his crazy spinning.

Seether: These guys were incredible. They came out blowing everyone away with Truth and then brought a member fromm Breaking Benjamin on and Barry and Adam From Three Days Grace on for Broken. They also did a cover of I Hate Everything About You. And ended with a heavy performance of Remedy. All in all a hell of a good show.

Breaking Benjamin: This part of the show was ****ing amazing. I mean the guy comes out in the dark looking like Frankenstein and starts singing 'Diary Of Jane' the guy im with..Tommy goes crazy and i cant get anywhere to do anything so when 'Until The End' comes on i shove him out of the way ause thats my favorite. They played all there songs Topless, Ployamorous, even Blow Me Away. And with all this they fight in some singles. First i couldnt identify but it sounded like Slipknot. The second they played Back in Black. Then it was Bulls On Parade. Last one i couldnt identify either :/. Then they threw water bottles at us and brought Seether onstage and they covered The Deftones' Change. Breaking Benjamin then finished with their swan song 'So Cold'. A fething hellish show at that

Three Days Grace: Saving the best for last!. At the beginning you here music but no band. Then the drummer appears. Then the guitarist. Then the bassist. And Adam flashes right there too! I was astonished. Then they started playing Animal I Have Become. At the end of the song flames burst out. None of the other bands had fire. They played Riot which started up the concert mayhem. Then about halfway through they covered Alice In Chains' Rooster acoustic which was one of the best parts of the show. I thought id pass ut at that point(didnt drnk any water :/) They played more of their hits with crazy flames and Adam shining lights on every one. After Never Too Late and Scared they finished with the 1 best performance of the night. They played 'Home' which they played like they did any other but halfway through they went and snuck in a cover of Filter's 'Hey Man, Nice Shot' then shot back into finish Home. All in all this was one hell of an awesome show

There you go the coverage of one hell of a show and dont forget to check out the videos in my sig

@Tim- Really? I thought that album was kinda weak for Manowar...there were some great songs, but a lot of keyboard interludes followed by more interludes followed by an interlude that turns into a song a minute and a half later...King of Kings and Sleipnir are particularly awesome though, and Die for Metal has been known to cause spontaneous fist-to-air fits...

My list would probably be:

Korpiklaani- Running With Wolves
Galneryus- New Legend
Symphony X- Set the World on Fire(The Lie of Lies)
Symphony X- Paradise Lost
Symphony X- Eve of Seduction

I guess it shows, but Symphony X's album "Paradise Lost" just completely blew me away last year.

Well if you take all the pure metal songs you get about 7-8 kick *** head bangers which you can listen to in isolation PLUS you get about 8 extra tracks of rather good spoken word and some nice classical pieces so really I fail to see whats not to like.

Besides, I'm also a prog fan as well so I enjoy drawn out piano interludes and crap like that.

YOU suck if you think Muse sucks >=( No really, Muse are pretty lame. Their first few albums were ok, Muscle Museum is a great song as are a few others but their later attempts especially BHAR are awful. And for a band considered one of the top live acts around they suck in the flesh even more so.

I think Muse and Green Day are alright, but overrated. I listened to Green Day a bit when Dookie came out but quickly grew away from the band which just let its sound soften over the years. As far as grunge goes in general, I think Kai Hansen said it best, "Kurt Cobain... what a guy! He destroys the metal scene, and then he shoots himself...." Not that I didn't like a few grunge bands growing up, such as Bush, Alice in Chains, and Pumpkins, but back in the early to mid-nineties that was the hardest music on the radio, and there was little alternative to the radio-master except risking 17.99 on a shiny new Warehouse CD. Back then it was very tough to explore new music without being a millionaire. Still, grunge isn't really all that bad compared to the crap they'll give a recording contract to these days. I just cannot understand why when we live in literally the best time ever to enjoy music, where you can download or stream millions and millions of bands on a whim, and decide what you like and don't like for yourself, anyone would ever let the radio choose which songs they listen to.

I lie Green Day, I played Good Riddance in the Talent show last year, but I'm not a big muse fan. Anyways, new topic:

Do you like Rap at all?
I personally hate rap, and I know other rock fans who do as well, so I wondered what you thought. I think it is talentless, crappy, horrible music (is it even music?) that takes no talent whatsoever. Heck, I can do it.

Rap takes talent, oh yes. I mean, I personally hate the stuff but thats just preferences in sound. Tell you what, get up on a stage with a complex beat and try to rap in time with the music... yeah thought so.

Besides I may not like the music but some classic rap like De La Soul and Public Enemy have some good messages... also Stand by Alice Cooper featuring Xhibit is an awesome song.

Rap
I'm not a great fan of rap (far from it) but I do like some of the older rap. I bought Raising Hell from Run DMC a couple of years ago for walk this way but the album itself aint so bad. Modern day rap is 100% crap however.

Can someone explain to me why you guys are bashing Rap/discussing it when this is clearly a Club for Rock music? o_o ...yeah. Please stop talking about it, unless you're somehow going to relate it to Rock music. Thanks.

Oh, and honestly, stop bashing artists/bands that people listen to - you are entitled to your opinion, but um, your opinion =/= fact, so stop acting like it is. Seriously, it is really immature, and needs to stop. I have to hand out a lot of infractions because of it. :(

Back to topic.

Well, looks like the question "What do you think of rap, rock-type peoplemon?" has been answered pretty well...also, guess we get to be more civil 'round these parts.

I agree with the consensus for the most part, although I do likes me some MC Chris, because he raps about things I can relate to, i.e- Star Wars and Robotussin.

Alright, I've had the album First Impressions of Earth for about a week, now, and I've decided to post my favorite songs from it, and give a mini review, or something of that sort.

At first I was unsure if I liked this album, since it's very different from The Strokes' previous stuff. I was already a fan of "You Only Live Once" and "Heart in a Cage", since I'd heard them before. But then you have a song like "Ask Me Anything", which has no percussion, and you just have to say "Huh?"
But after listening to it nonstop for a week, I've fallen in love with pretty much every song on the album. That's pretty rare for me, and doesn't usually happen when I get a CD (except, of course, if it's The Strokes). There's even one song with a pretty incredible guitar solo, "Vision of Division", that I'm hoping is included in a future GH game.
So, if you want to check them out, here are my top picks from the album.

"You Only Live Once" (http://youtube.com/watch?v=7vKoIw_THvQ) You only wish you could dance like Julian.
"Heart in a Cage" (http://youtube.com/watch?v=cbRe5mxR0q0) For those of you who want something a little more serious. Censored version.
"Razorblade" (http://youtube.com/watch?v=8vtZidCi5h8) Just one of my favorites. Not actual vid.
"Vision of Division" (http://youtube.com/watch?v=h0LegA8r2ks) This is the one with the diverse guitar part and awesome solo. The vid is a GH2 custom song, which is pretty much what I'd want it to look like on an actual game.
"Electricityscape" (http://youtube.com/watch?v=4vEsKV9sNN0) Probably my favorite song on the entire album. If you don't listen to any of the other songs, listen to this one. Not actual vid.

Although whoever came up with the name Optimus Rhyme is a freaking genius.

Got to see MC Chris along with Optimus Rhyme, The Minibosses, and The Neskimos a few years ago at the Penny Arcade eXpo. I got to meet a few of them, the Optimus Rhyme guy seemed very nice, as did the Neskimos. MC Chris was a little nervous I think, shot down an offered beer(from the Neskimos), saying, "I only do straight heroin before a show!" I didn't get to meet the Minibosses, but they put on a very good show.

Speaking of shows, got to see Nile a few nights back, and I remember why I'm a fan of power/prog metal first, death metal second...

The opening acts were not terrible, just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I have never seen an audience actually boo the opening acts, flip them off, give them a thumbs down, talk crap, etc.. I'm not a fan of the "Deathcore" genre myself, but I thought the second band, "Suicide Silence" did an okay job performance-wise, although definitely not what I prefer soundwise.

By the time Nile got on stage, I was already tired and drained from the screamy-scream-sing, growly growl of the first bands (and the abhorrent abuse the the breakdown). My girlfriend hadn't eaten since breakfast and didn't get enough sleep, so she was feeling woozy. The smallish club was crowded and the speakers were insanely loud, something I would have classified as "charming" if the band didn't use so much distortion. I got to rock out to a few awesome songs, and a lot I hadn't heard off the new album, which I don't particularly care for, and then we left early. "Cast Down the Heretic" was a particularly awesome experience live, and the harmonizing skill of the band was pretty impressive, although I'm more a melody follower myself.

Well, next month I get to see a progressive power metal band, my second favorite band, Symphony X, playing with bands I will probably enjoy watching first, and I haven't decided whether or not to go to the same venue the day after to see The Sword and Slough Feg as well.

I haven't been much of a power/prog metal or death metal fan. I always love old school heavy metal and some of the new metal stuff(SOAD, Avenged Sevenfold, Dragonforce, Atreyu)

Post me a Nile vid and i'll see what i think

Some parts of the solo reminded me of Rainbow. Of course The Strokes are far from Rainbow in terms of godliness(sp).
