-The episode starts with a nighttime battle between Hikari and Aipom against Satoshi and Buoysel. After a number of fast-moving attacks, the announcer reminds us that Satoshi and Hikari have switched pokemon.

-The opening theme has updated animation to show Aipom with Satoshi and Buoysel with Hikari. The animation updates are kinda lame, though...the updated Hikari shot is a shot from the ending theme, and the shot of Buoysel that replaces the shot of Aipom before we see Shinji and Satoshi face off looks like it was recycled from one of the episodes.

-Title screen
-The battle continues! Aipom uses Swift, so Buoysel dodges with Aqua Jet. The attack sends Buoysel hurtling through the largest star, causing a shower of stars. Next, Buoysel uses Sonic Boom, but Aipom is able to deflect it with Focus Punch. The deflected attack misses Buoysel and hits a shrine (similar to Celebi's shrine in the fourth movie), destroying it.
-The trainers stop the battle to take a look at the pile of stones that was once a shrine. Suddenly, the rubble starts to glow, and the clouds in the sky above start to move around in a menacing way. As a storm brews and lightning strikes, one of the stones in the rubble floats into the air as the cackling of a pokemon can be heard. Suddenly, Mikaruge appears from the stone! Hikari looks up the pokemon on her Pokemon Zukan.
-Without warning, Mikaruge aims a Shadow Ball at our heroes. Everyone's able to dodge, so Mikaruge launches a Hyper Beam attack. Everyone is able to dodge that, but by this point, Satoshi is pretty upset. He orders Buoysel to use Water Gun, but the attack simply passes through the pokemon. Next, Mikaruge uses some dark attack (I don't know what it was). The attack knocks Buoysel out with one hit, flinging it into a tree. As the pokemon's trainer rushes over to it to make sure it's OK, Mikaruge makes its getaway.
-Elsewhere, Musashi-tachi are having dinner; one biscuit apiece. Nyasu and Kojirou are upset at their measly meal, but Musashi is strangely cheerful. Suddenly, Mikaruge's voice is heard before a Hyper Beam hits the Rocket-Dan, burning their food to a crisp! Next, Mikaruge uses its dark attack on the trio, knocking them back. Musashi angrily yells at the pokemon, but Mikaruge simply ignores her and continues on its way. After it leaves, Kojirou looks up the pokemon in his deck of cards and determines that it's a valuable pokemon. Meanwhile, Nyasu takes a bite of his burnt biscuit and cries.
-The next day, Satoshi and his friends are walking on a path, wondering why Mikaruge showed up when it did. Hikari then added that it seemed like the pokemon was angry. Before long, the trio reaches a village, but all the buildings are damaged! Our heroes see a bunch of trainers outside with their pokemon, but all the pokemon are worn out! Satoshi runs to a kid with a Ratta and is told that a pokemon is the cause of all the damage.
-Then, without warning, an old woman appears and starts yelling Mikaruge's name all crazy-like. She shouts that the pokemon's seal has been broken and tells Satoshi that in their village, they have a legend about the pokemon.
-A long time ago, Mikaruge terrorized their village, demolishing buildings and causing trouble for the villagers. Then, one day, a Wave-Guiding Hero with a Pikachu came to the village and fought Mikaruge, weakening it enough that it retreated into its stone. After that happened, the hero was able to seal the pokemon in the shrine that it's been in all these years. At this moment, Satoshi and his friends realize that the pile of rocks they destroyed was the shrine and that they were the ones who broke the seal!
-In the next scene, we see the old woman looking at the demolished shrine in disbelief. After shouting for a bit about who could have done such a thing, Satoshi and his friends admit that they were the ones who did it. The old woman yells some more.
-Suddenly, Musashi-tachi appear, dressed in some pretty ridiculous costumes (Nyasu is dressed like a Nyula). Hikari says that the trio looks like a trio of famous TV psychics, and Musashi responds by saying that they are indeed them. She then demonstrates her "telepathy" by pointing at Satoshi's PIkachu and saying that it was received from a man in a white coat who writes Pokemon Senryuu. After Satoshi gasps in amazement, Musashi points to Hikari, pretends to concentrate for a bit, and then reveals that Hikari wore a Yadon costume when she was little. Hikari is amazed. Musashi is about to point to Takeshi, but before she does, she catches sight of the old woman from the village and instinctively screams that a terrible monster has appeared! The old woman yells at Musashi.
-At that time, a boy runs from the village, saying that Mikaruge is back...

-eyecatch-

Our heroes return to the village and see Mikaruge rampaging around. Nyasu approaches it and starts talking to it in pokemon talk before returning to his teammates. After the pokemon whispers in Kojirou's ear, the Rocket member announces that Nyula just used telepahy to figure out that Mikaruge wants to see Pikachu. So, Kojirou picks up Satoshi's pokemon, runs over to Mikaruge, puts it down, and then steps back. Then, Musashi approaches the two pokemon and waves her prayer stick around until a net with a bunch of scrolls come out of it and trap the two pokemon! At that moment, the Rocket-Dan recite their motto. After Nyasu calls on the hot air balloon with his remote control, the trio enters the basket. However, Mikaruge wastes no time and fires its dark attack at the balloon, causing it to go crashing down. After everyone lands, both Mikaruge and Pikachu are out of their nets. Pikachu runs back to the village to rejoin Satoshi. Musashi calls out her Habunake to retrieve the unsealed pokemon, but Mikaruge quickly Hyper Beams it away.
-Next, Musashi tries to plead to Mikaruge. The pokemon begins talking, so Nyasu translates. He says that Mikaruge is looking for the Wave-Guiding Hero, so Musashi points in the opposite direction and says that he's right over there. As Mikaruge looks, Musashi-tachi run the other way, escaping. It takes Mikaruge a few moments to figure out what's going on, but before long, it does and begins to chase after the trio.
-Back at the village entrance, Satoshi has his Mukubird flying around. After Pikachu returns to Satoshi, Hikari announces that she has plan. All they have to do is use the Rocket-Dan as bait to lure Mikaruge out...
-Later, Musashi-tachi are in their balloon, relieved at the fact that they've escaped. Then, they look down at a field below and see Pikachu sleeping, unguarded! Seeing this as a perfect opportunity, they land the balloon and being tip-toeing toward the pokemon. Suddenly, the ground gives way and the trio falls into a pitfall! As the Rockets look up from below, they see the silouhettes of Satoshi-tachi as they perform the first part of the Rocket-Dan's motto (Satoshi does Musashi's part, Hikari does Kojirou's part, and Takeshi does Nyasu's part).
-Then, as planned, Mikaruge appears. Musashi-tachi climb out of the hole and tells Mikaruge that Satoshi and Pikachu are the Wave-Guiding Heroes. Mikaruge starts to attack Satoshi, so the trainer starts to run for it. Before long, Satoshi stops running and asks Pikachu to use Quick Attack. Then, the pokemon uses Thunderbolt, but the attack doesn't seem to do much damage. Meanwhile, the Rocket-Dan have steathily hidden themselves behind some bushes and watch the battle, hoping that Mikaruge will weaken Pikachu enough to enable them to capture it.
-The battle continues with Mikaruge chasing after Satoshi. It uses Hyber Beam, but the trainer is able to dodge. Next, Pikachu uses Thunderbolt, and this time the attack seems to have more of an effect. It uses the attack a third time, and it starts to look like it's doing some real damage! Suddenly, Mikaruge begins to laugh and starts firing Shadow Ball after Shadow Ball. Pikachu dodges all of them, but in doing so it tires itself out. Mikaruge fires one last Shadow Ball, but Pikachu dodges that as well. The rogue attack continues flying and hits the hiding Rocket-Dan, sending them blasting off.
-All of a sudden, Mikaruge charges up a Giga Impact attack! The attack hits both Satoshi and Pikachu, causing the pokemon to faint. As Satoshi struggles to get up, the clouds above being to move and thunder appears in the sky. Takeshi comments that the same thing that happened before is happening now. Pikachu opens its eyes and eventually is able to stand, so Pikachu asks it to use a Thunderbolt attack on the sky. Pikachu obeys. The attack causes the clouds to rumble and then unleash a massive Thunderbolt onto Pikachu, re-energizing the mouse pokemon. Pikachu, now all charged up, uses Volt Tackle on Mikaruge and then hits it with a point-blank Thunderbolt. As the old woman sees bits of the old Wave-Guiding Hero in Satoshi, Mikaruge retreats into its stone. Everyone cheers but is cut short by the old woman, who orders everyone to start rebuilding the shrine so they can reseal the pokemon. Takeshi carries Mikaruge's keystone and seems to be struggling with how heavy it is...
-Later, the shrine is rebuilt, and Mikaruge's stone is put back into place. The old woman has another memory of the Wave-Guiding Hero, but Satoshi says that he didn't use his Aura...he was just able to succeed because of his desire to become a Pokemon Master. At that time, Hikari's stomach starts to rumble, so the old woman invites them to have dinner at her place.

That was like, the best. Would've been nice if they'd finished the motto though. Jessie had to screw that up by screaming at them. >_>

There's a clear movie 8 reference in this part. As you see here, they are talking about a "Wave guiding hero" and also about Ash's "aura".

In addition, movie 8 music begins to play in the background (not movie 9 music that Dogasu mentioned EDIT: Both movie 8 and movie 9 music was in this one, so nvm). It's that piece that is played a LOT during the lucario movie, so the reference here is totally clear now. Conclusion: Well, cool that they for once connect the anime with the movies. Keep it up.

So cool how Ash aura is cannon in the series now. I sure would have liked if Ash had used it though. And yes Ash/Dawn/Brock copping Team Rockets motto is def a win of the episode, they haven't done some thing like that since the first series with Ash/Misty/Brock.

I never said that music from the Lucario movie wasn't used. I just pointed out that music from the Manaphy movie was used since I didn't remember it ever being used in the series before.

But apparently, as someone else pointed out on another forum, the anime started using it in the Mumage episode.

Also..."for once?" They've referenced the movies in the TV series plenty of times by now.

So cool how Ash aura is cannon in the series now.

Um...it's spelled canon. A cannon is what cannonballs are shot out of :P

HA My mistake, didn't realize how I spelt the word till now. Thanks for the correction Dogasu. That old guy is creepy looking might I say, forgot to add that in my other post LOL. But yah there must be a reason why the writers added the aura into the series, normally they don't mention movies like this in the series. The only other movie they did that with was movie 2.

They also mentioned LaRousse city (the setting of the Deoxys movie) in the "Pokemon Ranger! Deoxys Crisis!" two-parter and in the Kanto Grand Festival (since LaRousee City is Shuu's hometown).

Don't know why everyone ignores that.

I'm gonna go on a limb and say it's because of the fact that the Pokémon Ranger said it, not Ash and co. . Also because after Solana mentions it, Ash and co. don't make any mention of it themselves in saying something along the lines of "yeah, we were there too" type of thing. I'm thinking the reason why people remember the movie 2000 connection is because Ash actually says he saw on in the Orange Islands.

And I have not seen this episode. I might, but I'll probably wait till it gets to NA before I watch it(as I have so far).

Yeah, but they kinda oddly danced around the fact Ash and Co. was there.

Anyway, during Team Rocket's motto (which was awesome, despite it being basically a recycled motto with different clothes) at the end, what was up with the Torkoal-Arbok-Phanphy thing? I think it's suppose to be some old-world belief that the world was held up by Elephants on a Tortoise, and I think a snake was involved...but anyone know exactly where this originated from?

This was essentially an less-humorous version of the Claydol episode. I mean, you had the crazy old fart and everything. That doesn't make it a bad episode, per se, as it was still superior to your average filler, and a great one from an artistic standpoint with some pretty creative and entertaining expressions. There were a few parts to laugh at, also. I loved Mikaruge's voice, which captured its spooky aura perfectly.

And for the record, I believe the first occurence of Movie 9 BGM was the Electrike episode (the scene where Jessie is trying to escape).

Joi cut them off before they could make any such comment.

I imagine they didn't mention it later because there was no real need to. I mean, with the cave collapsing and their traveling companion trapped in another dimension and all that, they didn't really have the time to get all nostalgic about an adventure they had earlier.

Either way, LaRousse City, a location in one of the movies, was mentioned several times in the TV series, meaning that it exists there as well.

Well on that particular schedule it said the Spiritomb Episode was to air on saturday but it didn't, so I don't know how reliable it is.

And in some cases I don't know how reliable TV Guides are, since there are times when a whole block of shows were to air, and yet they aired something completely different for no reason. (the only thing really reliable is just watching the actual channel, and what comes on, comes on)

Edit: Nope, it wasn't on, I guess this episode was banned or something, shame, and I wanted to see it.

So, it's confirmed that the episode didn't air on Monday? I bet Serebii will be upset to learn his source was wrong. :)

Also, it wasn't banned,dman_dustin. If it was banned, it wouldn't have gotten a dub title!

Let's hope that this episode was just skipped and will be aired before the next glut of reruns to make up for it. :(

This episode was cool. It was cool to see a Spiritomb. I assume the two attacks it used were Hyper Beam and Ominous Wind (the other two being Shadow Ball and Giga Impact), both of which were also cool. It was funny when the old lady got crazy when she found Spiritomb’s seal broken. It was funny when TR tried to capture Spiritomb as well as him always chasing after TR. Hilarious when Ash, Brock, and Dawn imitated TR’s motto.

Man that was probably the best episode this season. I was wondering what attack the black circles were, but I guess it was Ominous Wind. The old lady was hillarious. She totally flipped out on them when she found the seal was broken. I loved it when Ash, Brock, and Dawn imitated TR's motto. Jessie's reaction was priceless. And Dawn's response was great: "We don't care about you, we're only worried about Spiritomb." She just absolutely burned Jessie.

Like I already said, this was the best episode of the Battle Dimensions so far. But with what else is going on...well, all I can say is that this may be one of the most exciting dub seasons ever. This was well worth the two week wait (And I'm happy it didn't air until today: I wasn't home last week).

I enjoyed this episode. I don't know about the rumors everyone was talking about, but looks the same to me. But I enjoyed it. I loved that old lady, she was awesome, and her voice cracked me up everytime.

And then Ash, Dawn, and Brock doing the motto was the win. Just loved Jessie's reaction.

Spiritomb on the other hand didn't sound right to me. It sounded weird to me. Thats the only thing that pretty much irked me. The rest was all right.

Definately a good dub on PUSA's part. Though the filler episode was great to begin with.

I like how Ash is constantly reminded as some sort of "Aura" warrior. This definately helps build his character beyond that of just an ordinary trainer.

C.J. Ray
10th May 2008, 3:23 PM
While I didn't think much of this filler which referenced a Pokemon that millions of players would murder to get(what's the big deal about Spiritomb anyways, other than it's won the Award for Most Convulted Process to Get?) and the Key Stone, not to mention the lame "Aura Guardian" and how Ash remarkably has the same guts and Pokémon as the hero, one thing stood out:

IRON. CHEF. REFERENCE. FTW!

(Yes, I'm an Iron Chef America junkie. Shoot me now. :D)

EDIT: I noticed in Pokemon Nightmare, in a future episode, a Crawdaunt uses that same attack Spiritomb uses, with the dark waves, so I don't think it's Ominous Wind. I don't think it's Dark Pulse eitherr, unless Crawdaunt can use it. Any ideas?

I love that moment of what may have been the FIFTH time someone imitated Team Rocket's motto (First being done by Ash, Misty, and Brock, second done with Duplica's help, and the third done by that director Schpielbunk, and the fourth done by Ash himself) In fact, if it were more complete, it may have gone like this:

Ash: Listen, are those bad guy voices I hear?
Dawn: They speak to me, loud and clear.
Ash: On the Wind,
Dawn: Past the stars,
Brock: IN YOUR EARS!
Ash: Bringing Justice at a breakneck pace.
Dawn: Dashing all fear, and putting hope in its place!
Ash: A hero by any other name is just as sweet.
Dawn: When everything's better, our work is complete.
Ash: ASH!
Dawn: DAWN!
Brock: BROCK! Now that's a name!
Ash: Putting the Evil-Doers in their place.
Dawn: We're heroes,
All three: AND WE'RE IN YOUR FACE!
Pikachu: PIKACHU!

Dark Pulse is a TM so a good majority of the Pokemon can learn it, Crawdaunt being Part-Dark type should be a good hint that it can learn it. So yes Spiritomb was using Dark Pulse.

Before I get to my segment of this post, I'll do some responses first:

The old lady was hillarious. She totally flipped out on them when she found the seal was broken.
Hehe, she was practically ready to murder them!! lol!!

I loved it when Ash, Brock, and Dawn imitated TR's motto. Jessie's reaction was priceless. And Dawn's response was great: "We don't care about you, we're only worried about Spiritomb." She just absolutely burned Jessie.
What makes it funnier, is the fact that a certain someone actually came up with the plan (as in, in their group)

And then Ash, Dawn, and Brock doing the motto was the win. Just loved Jessie's reaction.
That scene just owns. I'll probably go ahead and upload just that section.

man i need satelight i cant stand waiting for somebody to upload it takes forever
Give me some time, I still have to chop up the episode for upload...

Anyways, I took some notes of things I'd say for this episode, and well I got many of them. First of all, training at night is a first, which surprised me. How the hell down "unsealing" the keystone cause a storm? Oh, and Spiritomb flies? Okay... that was a bit of a shocker... "how else is it supposed to move?" True, but lets not forget that the pokedex info in the game leads me to believe it was immobile.

And then we meet up with "the creepy old lady", whom we haven't seen for at least 8 years (the episode waayy back in Johto with the Hoothoot is probably the last time I've seen an old lady). Tells the group about Spiritomb. I'm not really sure what's more coincidental: the fact that the Aura Guardian has a Pikachu, or that, like Ash, his Pikachu is armed with Volt Tackle...

Then when Team Rocket arrives, I didn't know Jessie could imitate a Russian? I wonder if Michelle Knotz is just good a using a Russian accent. And of course, converting Meowth into a Sneasel... c'mon, can't they think of any other disguise by now? And I thought it hilarious that James says that "this Sneasel is a Psychic Sneasel". Okay, Ash and co. should have at least clued in that Sneasel is not Psychic to begin with.

Best line of this episode "They're as dumb as they look. They really are as dumb as they look".

Now, the biggest kicker I have ever seen: Dawn can actually create a plan. A MAIN CHARACTER CAN CONJURE UP A PLAN! When was the last time we say that? But the reactions that ensued were just perfect. Right after Spiritomb appears:
Jessie: I don't want to be treated like garbage...
Meowth: You're a little late...

First Dawn, then Meowth. Boy, Jessie is sure getting a beating!

Best Team Rocket line thus far: "Cheaps seats for Cheap Skates". I wonder if that could potentially become an episode title?

Anyways great episode, I'm really enjoying this season so far (sure taking it's time though...).

Again an episode I´m entirely enthused about!

Finally, we witnessed another "ghost story" again, and undoubtedly it was the best of all the respective former ones!

A plot with both creepy and heroic elements concluded by an epic showdown!
What could you desire more?

My favorite scene(how could it be different ^^) was the one where this weird old lady had a vision of Ash turning into the Aura Guardian! It was just marvelous!
I think there´s no reason for doubting any longer: This little scene was a foreshadowing which gives us a hint about what Ash is going to be in the future: Aura Guardian (the man´s face and Ash´s one matched such perfectly that even a blind person would notice it) AND Pokemon-Master!

How heroic would that be and how I wished this idea not being rejected by the producers!!

A fully successful episode from the beginning until the end !!
(If we could already have reached the next weekend to watch the next one ^^)

YoshiAngemon
13th May 2008, 3:57 AM
I wonder if the Aura Guardian is actually a part of some ancient organization, dedicated to bringing order to Sinnoh, and their leader was actually a Lucario Trainer. That would've been a good foreshadowing of Ash training a Riolu, and evolving it into Lucario through a strong friendship!

Not really that seal is backed by (magic/aura) or else it wouldn't have taken so long for Spiritomb to be released. Notice how when the tower crashed it glowed, then when they put it together it glowed again.

At least it looks like some kind of structure. Correct me if I'm wrong but in the game, doesn't it just look like some kind of rock pile with a hole in the middle? IMO, this is much better than that. I don't know why, but I initially thought that thing (Hallowed Tower) in the game looked more like a rock well. Just my thought though.

sry, but I definitely can´t see what´s your problem.
By letting the stones glow after being destroyed and rebuilt again, the producers surely intended to illustrate the tower being a magical one which seals Spiritomb with the help of magic.

You know...it is an anime for children and some episode are filled with bad writing but let me try it anyway...

1) the 'magic' of the shrine wasn´t strong enough to hold back Spiritomb after Aipom destroyed it by accident. It is just dumb to hope that no one will destroy the shrine like Aipom and Buizel did by accident. They are just waiting for their doom.

2) Maybe Aipom and Buizel destroying the shrine wasn´t the reason why Spiritomb was freed but the thunder was. It could have be a big coincidence but..what the hell? that would be very bad writing, even for Pokémon...

Sure, you can say that the seal is stronger, now that it is new and all..but...meh..why arguing over logic in a Pokémon-episode?

Anyway, it was a very entertaining episode. the mention of aura heroes makes me happy.

That cracked me up, especially Jessie's incensed reaction. :D I also liked the part when Team Rocket posed as psychics and told the twerps who their spiritual guides were. The old woman being declared Brock's, and her pointing out she's not dead yet, were hilarious.

Apart from those two things the episode wasn't that spectacular, but at least we got to see a pretty cool hard-to-get pokemon. Now if I can just find 32 people to talk to in the Underworld to crack open my six keystones....

This was one of my favorite filler's. The old lady in this episode was funny.

This episode was pretty neat. It kind bugs me how Ash was the descendant of ANOTHER Aura User, but they didn't delve into it more. 8.3/10.

I thought it was great that Dan Green voiced Spiritomb. It sounded great, really spooky. Perfect for the current situation.

I found it to be scary, a Ghost Pokemon like Spiritomb destroying villages in it's anger. And then it was Ash and Co. who started it's rampage by breaking the Hallowed Tower shrine.

I was glad that they made a reference to Aura like in the movie eight. It shows that Ash still has those powers left inside him. 9/10

I thought Ash, Dawn, and Brock copying TR's intro and then getting interrupted was hilarious! I also liked the Spiritomb vs Pikachu battle. Cool episode.
