View Full Version : Ridiculous And Unecessary!

Rules, rules and more rules. Great!

1.) Don't swear - Of course, this is an all-ages chatroom, so try to keep it down to a minimal of LESS offensive words if you feel you have to say something. Sure, this rule is sensible.

2.) No advertising - The reason for this is simple. It's spammish and has nothing to do with wi-fi. You might say that the channel you are advertising is for trading but guess what, WE ALREADY HAVE #SPP-WIFI FOR THAT. For sites, however, there are some people who would link to a porn site or anything, and we all know that this is an all-ages chat that revolves ONLY around wi-fi discussion. We've had people link to viral sites, so it's best to keep them out. Another sensible rule.

Also, no of this "PM me if you want to join a tourney/tournament" or "if you like somethingoranother PM me"
and then when you PM them they advertise a channel/site.

3.) No access begging - What is access? Those signs beside the user's names like +, % and @ are accesses. It means asking for power. Ops are chosen by the admins or founder, they were chosen so don't beg for it. Believe me, if you ask for it, you'll most likely WON'T get it. Especially if you are a random WiFiGuest. We don't hand over power to people we don't even recognize or people who use Java. Sensible as long as information is provided on how to become an Op instead of getting kicked.

4.) No flooding - This is annoying. If you have nothing better to do, don't flood the chatroom because it is VERY, VERY ANNOYING. Flooding is posting 3 lines or more in a short amount of time. Some scripts are just lagging if you get wrongfully banned by one. Also be aware that you MAY NOT post the same messages twice or thrice in different manners as that is evading the script. Ok, this is a sensible rule as long as bans arent too long.

5.) No repeating - We all know that you need a certain Pokemon and the amount of people in the wi-fi chat is so many that your post will be gone in a matter of minutes, but please, don't post it over and over in a short amount of time. Wait for about 5-10 minutes then post again. Semi-sensible considering some instances are accidents.

6.) Don't use excessive caps - THIS IS ALSO ANNOYING. SEE? DO YOU THINK THIS IS FUN? WE ALL KNOW HOW YOU WANT YOUR POST TO STAND OUT BUT THIS IS ALSO CONSIDERED YELLING AND IS VERY IMPOLITE...AS WELL AS ANNOYING AND STUPID. Havent you ever accidentally pressed the CAps Lock key and not known it until you post...please allow leniency.

7.) Speak English - This is an international chatroom, but this is NOT a multilingual chatroom :|. Most of the users are from English-speaking countries or know English. Sensible.

8.) Don't ask for downloadable stuff - We don't have them in here and they are ILLEGAL. Yet again sensible.

9.) No arguing about the rules - Rules are rules. They are enforced for a purpose to moderate the chatroom. This is a very controversial rule. We all have opinions and some of these rules are very unnecessary. I wouldnt remove rule entirely but allow leniency.

10.) Racism is not allowed - I don't give a crap if you're black or white. Don't flame each other for their colors or races, everybody's equal. Very sensible.

11.) Don't argue with the Ops - Please don't do that. Ops are chosen because they KNOW HOW TO BE OPS. If you do see them breaking any rules (e.g. caps overuse) they're just doing it because they are trying to say something...if it is spammish then it's just for fun. :[ Hmmm, Id say abolish this rule, it is completely unfair and unnecessary. Abuse of power might happen.

12.) Don't ban evade - Some of the bans are ineffective, but please, don't evade them. If you are to evade them, don't do the same crap you did that got you banned. If you continue to evade a ban, the network might be the one to give you a permaban. ;) Maybe if some of these ridiculous rule werent implemented no one would have to ban evade. Hmm, something to think about.

13.) Don't ask for the forbidden event Pokemon and items - These are Darkrai, Shaymin and Arceus. They are still not allowed in the chat. Heck, it's not even allowed on the GTS. Don't try to be a smartass and evade, we have active ops and scripts that still catches your (failure) attempts. ;P Don't ask for the Event items like Oak's Letter or Azure Flute, either. Very crude way of putting the rule. Even this rule is breaking the first rule (dont curse). This is one of the ridiculous rules I was referring to above. Let me remind you that this is a game. Some people cheat and some don't. I say let people do what they want. Who Cares?!?

14.) Don't overuse bold, underline and highlight - We know you want to stand out, but don't overuse the bold, underline and highlight functions. You CAN bold/underline/highlight ONE or TWO words in your post. Not neccessary.

15.) Don't spam - Spam is ridiculous. It is saying unnecessary or out of topic things like "I like pie" or "Cheese". It's NOT funny. Saying letters or words that doesn't have any meaning whatsoever is also considered spam. This is sensible.

16.) Don't overuse punctuations - u tink dis is not annoying?????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????? Please, don't overuse the exclamation point (!), question mark (?) and the period (.) Sensible...

17.) Please keep the chat wi-fi related - This chat is SPECIFICALLY for TRADING & BATTLING ONLY. For other discussions, please go to the main chatroom #SPP. I suppose this is sensible as well considering there is another chat room avalible for miscellanious chat.

18.) Don't talk about hacks - GameShark, Action Replay and other game-enhancing devices are FORBIDDEN. It is because the owner doesn't support the usage of cheats and glitches. If you wish to do that, do it elsewhere. Don't even think about asking in PMs, either. We DO have our ways of finding out if people are trying to evade the scripts by asking people to PM them about them. Once again I cant put in word how uneccessary this rule is. If people hacks, guess what, its okay, the world doesnt end. Also, remember: Its a videogame. Let people live.

19.) Pokesav is also FORBIDDEN - Pokesav is not allowed, kthx. Don't even ask what it's for. Same as above, very unccessary.

20.) Cloning is not allowed - Cloning is when two users of the SAME EXACT HOST/IP ADDRESS connects to the chat and pretending to be siblings/relatives/not related at all/etc. Don't even try to, we can see who are using the same connection ^.^ Really, seriously? Does it matter AT ALL? I think you are just making up rules to make people miserable.

21.) Glitches are bad - Glitches are bad. Whether it is in-game cloning, event Pokémon glitch or stuff. The owner doesn't support glitches. Also, do not mention how they work or complain if they screw up something with your game or Pokémon. We will likely laugh at you getting upset because you tried to cheat the system. Who really cares what goes on in a videogame. This rule is ridiculous.

22.) The /me command is banned from Wifi, and will result in a kick when used. Please do not use it. Sensible.

23.) Changing your name to something very similar to that of another member's name to cause trouble will get you banned. For example, changing your name to Kriby will get you banned for impersonation, since another member goes by the name of Kirby. You can thank the forum member ReallyOcean for making it known that this should be a written rule :) Sensible, but allow leniency.

24.) When you're banned from #spp or #spp-wifi, don't come to the other chan asking why you were kicked or to unban you... obviously, there was a reason for the kick, and you will be unbanned whenever the lists need to be clear (Or sooner, depending on what kind of kick it was... scripts are five minutes, manual is whenever) Wow guys, dont be Nazis ok? People would complain if there werent any STUPID RULES.

25.) No damn memes, like "So I herd u liek mudkipz!!11" Sensible, but allow leniency.

26.) Don't ask for trades involving accounts for other games. Sensible.

27.) Do not offer/request shiny events. They are likely to be hacked. There are a few that are legit, but more than likely it's going to be hacked.
So no. Once again, no one really cares and besides, shiny legendaries have been released in Nintendo Events before so dont jump to conclusions. Doaway with this rule.

A big proportion of these rules are simply ludicrous. All Serebii is doing is chipping away at our rights just like the government does, so stop encouraging. Be cool and not a grumpy old man (that is so true illustrated by these rules). What drives you people to enforce these so strictly? I dont understand. unnecessary, unnecessary, unnecessary.

Ok I like how you complain about a big proportion of the rules are ludicrous and then say "Sensible" to the majority of them.

The caps lock thing? I dont see how you can accidently type it in caps. When you type youre either looking at the screen or at the keyboard, in if its the second one, then usually theres some light or something that shows caps is on. If not then this is a highly rare occurrence. Regardless, the rules are set for the majority, and the majority of the time its idiots being idiots.

Arguing about rules and with Ops? Again, most of the time its whining idiots who have yet to reach puberty or fail to follow the simple, yes theyre simple, rules.

I have no patience to scroll all the way up again to search through the post. Maybe you shouldve posted what you had comments on instead of all the "sensible" rules and it might be clearer for us to respond.

If moderators dont take time to listen to their people then what kind of website is that?

Really, just take a moment...yes, there are your standard set of rules that everyone can agree on, but, now just take a moment, are most of these rules necessary for a VIDEOGAME (meaning not asking for hacks doesnt upset the balance of the universe) chat room? And an idiot, Im not the idiot here, but niether are you. Anyways, all of the complaints I made actually make sense unlike other "idiots" that are just frustrated they got kicked/banned.

Oh and I said sensible to about half of the rules. Thats a big proportion thats not. Why have these unreasonable rules.

(I dont want to have to get nasty, we are all people here.)

Simplest and best way to think about this.

It's not your chatroom.

If you don't like the rules, make your own chatroom with your own set of rules.

Yes but I really want to know what on Earth drives someone to enforce rules such as these. Dont get me wrong I appericiate the people at Serebii.net making such useful things, but this dictatorship chat room is infringing.

this is SPP-wifi.
it is madness.
dictatorship is necessary in SPP-wifi.
it's not a standard "chat."
;\

(i mean, are we supposed to realize "Oh jeez we need to change the rules this person doesn't like them!!!!!!!!" I mean what was the point of this topic...?)

Go to the chatroom and sit in there for 1 hour and I guarantee in a matter of minutes you'll be happy that those rules exist.

Unless you're one of the people who didn't read them, and find yourself banned.

Again, private chatroom, he can do whatever he wants, just like I can with my chat (my chat also doesn't exist, at least not on this server...)

Trust me its not just me, isnt there a whole thread on a different catagorey in these forums that have people complaining about being unfairly kicked out. Then there are those who make posts on other forums. Its not just me.

Also, ask someone else if these rules are a bit unfair, they will most likely say yes.

Make a survey if you really want to. Most people want hack, they want AR, they want to cheat. So let them! YOur crowd will be alot happier, if you care. It isnt hurting the people at Serebii.

I suppose it isnt a majority of the staff Im aiming this towards, I just want to make a valid statement to whoever agree with these rules.

Once again I cant put in word how uneccessary this rule is. If people hacks, guess what, its okay, the world doesnt end. Also, remember: Its a videogame. Let people live.

But we don't allow hacks.
And remember, it's not your chat. Let us do our job. ;\

Heh, I didnt think so...but please give a valid reason for not allow hacks (not that I hack myself, I just stand up for the people). Not reasons such as: this is my chat, because I can, its my job.

Anyways, if you think not allowing people to cheat will give morals, it wont and it isnt your jobs either.

Trust me its not just me, isnt there a whole thread on a different catagorey in these forums that have people complaining about being unfairly kicked out.

There is, and it had to do with a few problem chat operators. Right now it's in the process of being dealt with, what they did had nothing to do with the rules, nothing at all.

And we don't care if you want hacks, go somewhere else for them.

Im not even an Op right now because my college blocks the IRC ports. Plus, I have hw to do which is more important than reading everything in your post :)

Goes back to the whole "we're all people here" thing.

The title of this topic describes the topic itself very well.

Ridiculous and unnecessary.

I'm closing it because it's unneeded, and no matter what we say you're still going to argue. Don't like it, tough, go somewhere else.

Or deal. Your choice.

Rules, rules and more rules. Great!

Okay...

Sure, this rule is sensible.

K.

Another sensible rule.

Uhm k...

Also, no of this "PM me if you want to join a tourney/tournament" or "if you like somethingoranother PM me"
and then when you PM them they advertise a channel/site.

Uh...K?

Sensible as long as information is provided on how to become an Op instead of getting kicked.

I, as do many other ops, do take time to explain on how to become a chat operator. Look, I'll explain how now!

Frequent the chat. Follow the rules. Be nice to every member. Set a good example. Show us that you're trustworthy. OH MY! Unless people are flooding the chat with "CAN I BE ADMIN PLZ!!!!!!!!!"

Or anything like that, I won't ban them. We do not ban people who ask HOW they can become an op. Asking how and begging are completely different.

Ok, this is a sensible rule as long as bans arent too long.

5 minutes is the usual.

Semi-sensible considering some instances are accidents.

Not really, most people do it to annoy. Regardless, the ban is usually 5 minutes. Unless they're repeating naughty things :)

Havent you ever accidentally pressed the CAps Lock key and not known it until you post...please allow leniency.

We do allow leniency. You must have a set of 9 capitals or more to be banned. Also, a lot of people get unbanned right away. But the bans are usually 5 minutes for this as well.

Sensible.

...Okay?

Yet again sensible.

Okay!!!

This is a very controversial rule. We all have opinions and some of these rules are very unnecessary. I wouldnt remove rule entirely but allow leniency.

We do allow leniency, obviously you just don't visit the chat often enough. Can't blame ya though.

Very sensible.

Uh....

Hmmm, Id say abolish this rule, it is completely unfair and unnecessary. Abuse of power might happen.

When you're constantly arguing with an op even though you're clearly in the wrong, you're going to have to kiss your chatting privileges for the time being goodbye. Arguing with anyone, op or normal member, for the sole purpose of annoyance will get you banned.

Maybe if some of these ridiculous rule werent implemented no one would have to ban evade. Hmm, something to think about.

Except you agree with most of the rules you quoted above. Why did you even quote them? Just to say "Sensible." afterwards? Brilliant.

Very crude way of putting the rule. Even this rule is breaking the first rule (dont curse). This is one of the ridiculous rules I was referring to above. Let me remind you that this is a game. Some people cheat and some don't. I say let people do what they want. Who Cares?!?

Nintendo doesn't support hacks, glitches, etc. Neither do we. We're not going to change a rule because a bunch of kids want to rip other people off with their hacked pokemon. End of discussion.

Not neccessary.

Best reasoning ever, mainly because you didn't put one. Overusing the bold feature is incredibly obnoxious and annoying, and most people including the regular chatters dislike it. Please respect that.

This is sensible.

What the bloody hell?

Sensible...

...

I suppose this is sensible as well considering there is another chat room avalible for miscellanious chat.

Again with the sensible crap. Why bother quoting it just to agree? Why not just talk about the ones you dislike, or better yet, don't talk at all :)

Once again I cant put in word how uneccessary this rule is. If people hacks, guess what, its okay, the world doesnt end. Also, remember: Its a videogame. Let people live.

Again, Nintendo does not support Action Replay or any other methods of obtaining pokemon in an illegitimate way. Sorry, but it's the way we work as well. Go complain to Nintendo, if they change their policies, then Serebii might change his rule on this.

Same as above, very unccessary.

Same reason as above.

Really, seriously? Does it matter AT ALL? I think you are just making up rules to make people miserable.

Same reason as above...above?

Who really cares what goes on in a videogame. This rule is ridiculous.

Have fun with your screwed up pokemon game that deletes itself then.

Sensible.

Again with the sensible crap. Wowzers!!!

Sensible, but allow leniency.

We do, sometimes. On days I get tons of individuals who change their name to some cheap knockoff of my name. Do I ban them? No, I don't. I have fun with it, and I think it's funny. Now if they're trying to impersonate me to cause trouble then yea, byebye.

Wow guys, dont be Nazis ok? People would complain if there werent any STUPID RULES.

Your opinion on the rules does not make it a fact that they're stupid.

Sensible, but allow leniency.

We do, again, you obviously don't frequent the chat much, or you'd know this.

Sensible.

Dotdotdot...

Once again, no one really cares and besides, shiny legendaries have been released in Nintendo Events before so dont jump to conclusions. Doaway with this rule.

No, we won't do away with this rule. Get over yourself and stop telling a privately owned chatroom owner how to run his chat. The rule is there for a reason.

Wowowowowowowwowow NO COMMENT.
