Who you gonna call?

This episode wasn't what I was expecting, but that doesn't mean I disliked it. Portraying Dusknoir as being the hero is a cliche for this series (heck, it draws all sorts of parallels to Movie 10), but the darkness of that spirit girl helped to add some decent DRAMA to the generic haunted forest of woe. Zombie Conway was easily the best part of the episode. Gotta love how Ash flashes the medallion similar to how he poses for a badge, and how Conway now creeps up from behind Rowan. Excellent use of Darkrai's Movie 10 theme to sound for Dusknoir, as well as the movie's mix of the DP gym battle theme.

The first summer school episode is still my favorite of this arc, but at least this one wasn't as much of a doozy as the Lumineon one.

It really felt as Movie10 crammed into one episode. With Dusknoir being Darkrai combined with all the M10 music... :p

I think you're slipping, pal.

OBVIOUSLY, this episode is clearly deserving of this picture:

http://wat.midco.net/jvipond/images/gschool.gif

That girl was pretty damn creepy, especially when her voice got dual and deep. And when she disintegrated, for a second it looked like she turned into a shape resembling Spiritomb...

...oh who am I kidding, we'll never know who she was.

Nobody actually managed to get sucked in, but the girl sure did. All we could see was a mess of black and purple, but it looked creepy.

This was a pretty awesome episode.

Haha, chest-flexer ran away with his tail between his legs after going on about how no matter what kind of Ghost came out, he'd protect Hikari. Yeah. Sure.

Poor, poor Kouhei. He never has any luck. xD

He creeped up on Nanakamado too! xD

That little girl was creepy as heck.

Also, while I understood most of the episode, I didn't get what Nanakamado-hakase was saying when he was recounting the story about that tomb/grave (those ruins) was destroyed. Could somebody give a clearer translation? Or at least the gist of it? :3 Thanks!

EDIT
And when she disintegrated, for a second it looked like she turned into a shape resembling Spiritomb...

Oh, yeah, Spiritomb's tomb was also a similar structure, ne~?
But I'm guessing she's just an akuryou of some sort.

Pretty good episode what with Dusknoir going all out on the ghost girl forcing her into oblivion AS THE VERY FABRIC OF SPACE AND TIME TEARS HER APART!!.........Okay ...calming down...

But anyway I was kind of hoping Conway would have a bigger part, but oh well as long as he appears more during the series, I'll be cool.

The Renowned Obscurity

Conway doesn't have a bigger part?!
That's tragic. He NEEDS to appear again.
And from some of the posts, I take it Dusknoir wasn't necessary evil?
That's is also tragic. I was hoping for some ebil Dusknoir action in which it sucks peoples up and takes them to the spirit-y underworld to chill with the Drifloon.
...

Eh yeah. Well I'll wait for the episode pics (unless they're up already and I didn't notice). And then I'll wait even longer for the episode to actually air in America.

At first I was really bored but after the creepy girl appeared (very creepy girl) I thought the episode was really amazing. Dusknoir was very cool and so was Dawn's partner.

I don't know what to say, it was a good episode, by no means one of the best and it stills not better than the first one in the arc.

Saw this the other day so had to say a few things...

*Conway x Dawn action...not so much this week. Clearly a big shipper for HeatTag.
*I'm sorry, WTF at this! What was the point of Dawn's partner in this episode. I mean seriously. I only saw "Flexy McBouncy-Boobs" when he was flexing in front of Dawn and cowering behind her when walking through the forest and then running off. That was it.
*The ghost girl...Wow...Just freakin' wow! Um scary movie written all over it. But I have my own theories with the girl. Even though it's no where near Eterna Forest, I want to think that ghost girl was that creepy girl most of us players see when we're in that one haunted house in the D/P games. We enter one room and in the room next to that, a girl is seen quickly walking in and out. And that's it. I'll shut up now.
*Ash and Aoi...I'll probably foam at the mouth next week, but for now I'll keep my anti Ash being with someone other than Misty or Drew to myself.
*Meowth in the Banette outfit. That was just awesome. Too cool for words.

That's about it!

1. The show IS called Pokémon.

2. Maybe it's because some pokémon have powers that allow them to do things like the ghost girl in this episode.

It made me realize how much I love Ghost Pokemon.
But I seriously wish Dusknoir was evil... But of course it just had to be "misunderstood", like Darkrai... :/ Though the girl was verry reminscient of Abra and the Psychic Showdown, and was pretty cool.
I mean, she almost made Conway walk off a cliff! That's a bad thing in my book, but still cool. /morbid/

The Renowned Obscurity
17th January 2009, 2:41 PM
This episode also reminded me that there are some seriously disturbing PokeDex entries out there and I probably need to update my fic in which I discuss said entries... ;;

What's funny is that according to the PokeDex, Drifloon and Dusknoir basically have the same job (dragging people to the spirit world). They should've just replaced Dusknoir with Drifloon.
...And they never found out what was up with that girl, did they? Because I turned on the computer and missed the last part of the episode...

Brumrha
17th January 2009, 2:41 PM
Creepy...

This basically reminds me of them being ethereal spirits whose sole purpose is to make us miserable; ghost Pokemon, however, aren't like that, & this proves it to me. Guess that Dusknoir sure did stay true to what the Pokedex says; it keeps dead people inside the spirit world, & other people who are still a long ways to go out.

Creepy... but it ain't Silent Hill...

*continues to linger around*

-Takeshi gets paired with some random stranger. Maybe next generation.
-Hikari has some pretty good senses.
-Takeshi is too macho for ghosts.
-Movie 10 BGM is a nice keep.
-Dusknoir is too macho for anyone.
-I didn't take anymore notes for this episode. I was too focused on it.

Hey, you're right! I didn't even think about that until I just read that.

This episode was great! Any episode that uses the cool "Darkrai appears" music is all right by me!

You know, Ash and Angie sharing a pose together reminds me of the ridiculous amount of emphasis Shadows of Almia put on the whole "Ranger Pose" thing.

Dusknoir looked seriously cool! I'm a little disappointed by the lack of Mismagius though.

Specially-made Ghost Pokémon food? I'd hate to see what goes into that.

Dawn's partner's name was... Kendal. I forgot Brock's... I think it might of been Mitchel, but I'm not sure.

Yes, it is.

I expected him to be named Kenneth because such gender-neutral name like Kendal doesn't fit such "macho" guy. Hoever, when I was thinking possible names for him (I'm a name-prophet on Bulbagarden) I also considered Kendal. So, I'm not so disappointed on the name.

Now's the question: is it spelt with one or two L's. If it was Bulba, someone would watch the episode with Captions on. Well...

And still, waiting for Mitsuki's (Brock's partner) dub name.

The Renowned Obscurity

Well...he didn't really kill her, but that was awesome. :) He just closed the connection to their world from the spirit world, so her spirit just died with Dusknoir closing the entrance. Hopefully, they entrance can no longer create a crossover to their world, that was heart pounding. :o I'm glad Dusnoir could be a good guy, and save Ash, Angie, Pikachu, and Shinx. - "Pokemonic!"
- Hehe they tried to fit too much into the line where Ash gets the medal and he's still talking when Ash's mouth has stopped moving
- Ash is *really* strong to be able to hold onto Angie with one hand haha

I counted 9 pieces of music kept, but I think I messed up somewhere.

I'm glad for all the Japanese pieces of BGM kept, but I can't help but have the feeling there was some really epic music when Angie was about to be sucked into the Spirit World (which, by the way, is reminding me of that show Yu Yu Hakusho.)

Hopefully, they entrance can no longer create a crossover to their world, that was heart pounding.

I wouldn't mind if it happened...

(Ash wouldn't be stuck there forever, if it did...)

But those Ash and Angie moments were a bit corny (even for me). Good thing she's only got one more episode and a filler.

It can't be much of a filler if it has a recurring character, can it?

I liked this ep of the School arc (except the corny Ash and Angie parts, Im a pearlshipper btw). It made the anime more dark imo. The ghost girl just freaked me out (a little). They partnered up Dawn with that Kendal guy to have something happen to Conway. lol when Dawn saw an unconsious Conway next to Dusknoir, it made Dusknoir look like he killed him. (Framed) Other than that i think this episode was nice (or evil).

This episode turned out better than I thought. That ghost girl was freaky. Man, had it not been for Dusknoir, she would've led Conway to his death. And, of course, Dusknoir gets framed so many times.

When that girl opened up the entrance to the Spirit World and tried to drag Ash and Angie in...damn, that freaked me out a little. And after Dusknoir hit the ghost with the attack and sent it back into the Spirit World...definitely one of the coolest moments in recent memory.

This was a great episode in a great arc. What more can you ask for?

Piekid11
18th January 2009, 12:42 AM
Well, Hero, I wonder if that girl was a ghost pokemon possessing her, or if it was just some freaky ghost thing..

It was most likely a human ghost I think, they probably would've revealed the pokemon when Dusknoir pwned it.

Yeah, definitely one of the coolest episodes I've seen.

Viva La Revolution
18th January 2009, 12:46 AM
This was a great episode. Tiny ghost children, Gengars, multi-person Pose of Grand Awesome, Conway nearly being led to his doom and being saved by a Dusknoir who everyone frames... It's episodes like this that keep the anime worth my half-hour a week. xD

The climax of the episode - Ghost Child opening a portal to the Spirit World and Angie and Ash nearly being sucked in? It was completely epic. Part of me knew Dusknoir would save their tails, but the scenes where it happened in was so awesome - especially Ghost Child getting shattered into wisps of shadow. (I wonder what she was... probably a human spirit, but I almost thought it was a Spiritomb for a few seconds.)

I like the Summer School arc even more now.

This episode was good. Kendell was weird, but I actually thought Dawn was referring to Conway at first. It was cool to see a Dusknoir. He was a cool pokemon.

I thought Dawn was referring to Conway too when she was all "I feel something creepy behind me." It made me sad -is a HeatTagshipper- But Dawn was actually worried about him when he fainted! (Which was actually really funny).

Zomg Rank Up to Johto finally!

Another first class episode. Amazing work and great entertainment!:bounce:

The underlying idea of this episode, searching for and retrieving a medal in a creepy environment full of ghost Pokemon at night was definitely a good basis for an awesome plot which was put into practice very successfully!

Everybody must have noticed by now how mature Pokemon has become over the years. Could you have imagined just one year ago that a demon, disguised as an innocent girl and pulling people to their deaths, would actually be part of a Pokemon episode some day? -Pokemon, a series that used to know only happy ends
As Sinnoh has constantly been surprising us since its start, you can't help being delighted how much Pokemon has developed by now. Awesome!

The deserved winner of this week's "Best Comedian"-Award is undoubtedly Meowth. If he wasn't so hilarious, I would even feel pity for this "poor" clown who always has to do menial tasks and serve as the stooge of "Queen Jessie" :-D

To be honest, I absolutely can't get why Ash's and Angie's joint posing bothered you. You see, I loved it, even if they had repeated it three times. Somehow that scene was impressive and heroic alike.
Talking of heroic scenes, of course I won't forget to analyse the most heroic one of all, the overwhelming climax:
Ash fighting against the storm coming from the spirit world and holding Angie's hand tightly was without doubt THE best scene of the whole episode! Not to forget his passionate "I won't give up, even if that means forever (ash_ forever ^^)!" Wow, that was....almost indescribable! Either cold shivers run down your spine when you watch this scene or...you are a ghost from the spirit world yourself!!:-D
That passionate, heroic scene confirms once again that we may be overjoyed and proud to be fans of the greatest character ever: Our hero Ash!

Unfortunately(!), I also have to critize two things (and I'd like to hear your opinion on them):
1. Awesome though it was, but I'm afraid that we'll never hear something about the spirit world again. There's a high probability to assume that it will just fall into oblivion. Or to express it more creatively: that the spirit world-plot itself will be sucked into the spirit world and be forgotten.
What do you thing?

2. Prof. Rowan is slowly getting on my nerves. Kind though he may be but he judges highly UNFAIRLY! As some of you have already mentioned, Ash and Angie were the only ones to find and retrieve the medal, so why in the world (of Pokemon ^^) is EVERY team given 30 points!? NO, I can't agree with that mean decision at all. If I were Ash, I would have complained, you bet!!
What do you think accounts for that decision? I don't know what to make of it.

Apart from those two points of criticism, it was an excelllent and unique episode. I enjoyed every second and that's why I'll go and watch it again now.

8 out of 10 points

True, but you never know. The spirit world might come back in a future episode.

^I agree with you. Ash's team should have gotten more points than the other teams because they were the only ones to get the medal.

One question. What was that attack Dusknoir used to knock the girl back to the spirit world?

Seemed pretty obvious to me that it was Psychic.

Seemed pretty obvious to me that it was Psychic.

Since when has psychic looked like some will-o-wisp like style attack. Psychic has always been portrayed as invisible force.

Edit: Hold on...I might be thinking of another instance.

2nd Edit: Okay it might have been Psychic, but that's really odd since psychic has never been so visible.

Interesting and exciting episode. This one I payed real close attention to it. Usually some episodes bore me but this one was just great.

Its been a while since Ash and co. been teamed up with different characters. It made things even more better. I was getting sick of them being team up with each other all the time. No doubt Ash and Angie would be paired together. Dawns partner just creeped me out and what a wuss he was.... and Brocks partner seemed OK. Conways partner was scary and mysterious.

For me, the creepy little girl looked like a Ralts o.O Seriously, look at the resemblance in them two. Its like a Dark version of Ralts. ;280;

Well lucky for Conway Dusknoir was around to save him. Though it looked like Dusknoir just attacked him(framed). Excellent seeing Dusknoir though.

The part where Ash was holding on to Angie dear life was pretty heroic. Although it was a bit too much for me, it was still good.

Also, it was nice seeing other Ghost pokes. I loved them in this episode. A good scare is what everyone needs once in a while.

8/10

On to the next.

Good episde. The death theme was kept surprisingly. They sure said it enough times.

"Dusknoir takes people off to the spirit world" - Multiple characters
"I survived?" - Meowth
"Its killing my ears!" - Ash
"I would have been a goner!" - Conway
I paraphrased because I don't remember the lines exactly.

The little girl in this episode reminded me of one of those little dead kids from generic horror movies with all of the "Come play with me" lines.

A ghost episode. JAMES AND MEOWTH GET YOUR GHOSTBUSTERS ON!

Same distance? (http://www.filb.de/content/anime/dp090/016.jpg) Pokemon maths, you've foiled my logic again!

Little girl ghouls. The Otaku bug zapper.
Way to hit home, Japan.

Last time I follow a ghost.

A partnership between Biggly McStud, all me awesome muscles, that glute, and Dawn. Now wait a minute, that's too many!

11 students! Oh the Japanity!

That Darkrai theme was quite the misfit. It just turned the scene on its head.

Is Banette Meowth giving me lip?

The fried cake is a lie..

Do you think Dusknoir's hourly, or is he paid on a per soul saved basis?

Ash knows better than to give up in the face of sucking!

What is forever? Baby come show me?

Don't investigate what's behind this or anything. It might actually be INTERESTING.

6/10 I still see many plus sides if pokemon took the nature show route more often. Clearly work is needed in cutting out the plot. Maybe Ken Gates could so acutely elaborate how Misdrevous rants about life problems as a defense mechanism?

I watched all the Pokemon episodes that were clogging up my DVR. I hadn't seen this one yet. Lets just say:

Past Midnight + Creepy Ghost Girl + Big Spider I saw in my kitchen just moments before(killed it) = Me shaking on my couch.

They obviously put a lot of work into this episode. They definitely made it scary. And I finally learned how to pronounce Dusknoir. I hope they continue writing good episodes like this.

Giratina? Hm, I know Giratina's a Ghost, but also a Dragon type. I doubt she's a Dragon. I think she could be Darkrai or Mismagius...

The reason i thought she could be Girantina, is because of the spirit world entrance that was hidden in the ruins.

That could have been the Torn world.

I found this episode really cute. Hehe. I loved it how Ash posed with the medal and the girl *forgot her name* did the same. Hahaha.

Dusknoir's innocence was hillarious, as was Conway when he was zombified and Jessie when she first saw the Dusknoir.

This was definitely one of Conway's better episodes. It was also one of the reasons I like Ash with Angie, because I enjoy their scenes together in this episode. It means so much for the succeeding Angie episodes too. :) Too bad that ghost girl reminded me so much of Sabrina's doll, that was so incredibly creepy, that ghost.

This episode was definitely one of the best of season 11. The next episode was even better, but this episode was just interesting to watch. Oh, and I LOL'd at the part where that guy kept insisting he'd protect Dawn, then ran away like a sissy chicken at the first spook. :)

I didn't like it much. It wasn't scary or spooky, no episode of the anime is.

Dusknoir was treated like a hero even though I thought it would be the villian. That was unexpected. The little ghost girl was actually kind of dull.

The whole Ash wanting to save Angie was too much for my taste, but the Shippers jumped for joy most likely. 3/10
