Speaking of work...I need a job.

For money, but the main reason is my Vocational Studies class. It's either: have a VET course, get work experience, or get a job. Getting a job is the best choice, since I'm not doing a VET course.

Kinda stupid how they're forcing us to get a job, because if you fail Voc. Studies, you fail year 11, because getting 40 hours worth of working is worth 25 percent of our grade.

Eh. I'll start looking when the term one holidays come...It's weird. I'm already planning for something like, 9 weeks in advance.

I would have Tech Graphics and Cooking (and then a free ^_^) on Thursday, but all the year 11's, and unfortunately the yr 10's (I don't like the yr 10's) are goign to Greenhills, an "Adventure Park"...stupid description. At my new school, I've got English, Maths, Literature, IT, Legal Studies, Physics, and Religion (English, Maths, Religion and a science subject are compulsory). At my old school I would have had English, Maths, Graphics, History, Legal Studies and IT. PE was actually all booked out, surprisingly.

The new school was a bit limited in choice since I applied around late October last year. I had to choose what I could get. But I do enjoy Legal Studies, very interesting. Cooking is a VCAL subject now, so since I'm doing VCE I can do that.

Chinese and German were fun when I still did them, cooking dumplings in Chinese was always something to look forward to. And on Chinese New Year's last year, we spent the lessons just playing games and watching movies like Mulan. That was fun...

Just started Year 11 this year, it's a lot different to Year 10. I've always been one of the younger people in my year level, and a lot of the older people have left to get full-time jobs and things like that. I'm thinking I might go back to my old school, the new one's a bit disappointing, to be honest...

I've just been hanging around the anime section where the Pokemon in Australia topic is, and it got me reminiscing back to the days when shows like Cheez TV were on, and all those good cartoons. These days I mainly just watch shows like Simpsons, Family Guy, Friends, Two and A Half Men, Big Bang Theory and ones like that. Toasted TV isn't really worth watching to me anyway, they just don't seem to have much on it these days, not the kind of things they used to do on Cheez TV. Funniest Home Videos is worth the occasional watch, there are some good videos on there and the host is great.

Like Victorians have VCE and VCAL for Year 11 and 12, what would they be other states, I wonder?

At the new school it is. I don't know why though. VCE is the big exam you have in Year 12, but in Year 11 and 12 you do VCE subjects, normally Units 1 and 2 of a subject, then Units 3 and 4 in Year 12. Though I did a Year 11 subject when I was in Year 10 for some extra points on my score.

Sounds alright. Year 12 exams must be hard. We had two lots of exams last year in Year 10, one after Term 2 and one after Term 4. They never used to do that at the school before that. It was a good idea, because now I have some idea about what to expect.

In Year 11 at school they have the Debutante Ball, which is basically just dancing, waltzing, etc. Apparently it's really enjoyable from what some Year 12's told me. I'm looking forward to it, it's not compulsory but nearly all the Year 11's do it anyway, just to be part of it.

Where I am, it looks like it's gonna rain any second now. It's so weird actually seeing clouds for once.

Really? I like the Golden Sunshine apples and the Fuji Apples. Those are nice. But I haven't had apples for ages. Last time I had one, it damaged the wires on my braces.

Darn, I missed out on the tea topic...

I'd say bushfires are worse than floods, since floods don't really harm the environment. In fact, only humans seem to be making a big deal out of the flooding. Not to mention that around half of Sydney's bushfires are deliberately lit.

Rommath
8th February 2009, 6:20 PM
It rained for about 10-15 minutes in the morning, but then it just stayed cool and slightly overcast. It was nice for a bit of rain though.

So, now that tea and apples are done, how about those martinis?

What do you think is worse, the bush fires or the floods?

Bushfires. Because of the amount of damage (and deaths) they're causing all over the state. Been none around my area this time, but the one a few years ago got very close to our houses. Not a nice way for anyone to enter a New Year, some without a house at all.

And while were having fires and floods, America, Britain and Europe are having blizzards and snowstorms. Crazy weather.

True but it won't be as severe. The advantage of the IPL is that we can find domestic players who can mix it with the best: Shaun Marsh and Watson for example. Doesn't provide test players but atleast the ODIs and twenty20 are solved. From there we can build for the future. You know the kiwis are buidling a pretty damn good team. I was just thinking of their line up when the players are all fit:
Guptil
Ryder
Taylor
Elliot
Styris
Oram
Mccullum
Mills
Southee
Vettori
O Brien

Thats a scary lower middle order. Young and great potential. But how good were the pomies against the Windies. No longer as worried for the Ashes.

Fair point. Christmas is a holiday that has also been commercialised. All the little kids (and big kids) wanting expensive loads of gifts and forgetting the "true meaning of Christmas"...

Not everyone's like that, but still.

If the fires had occured naturally, people would still be devestated, but seeing as these were lit, well, the arsonists just better hope the police get to them first...

I'm not too sure about Valentine's Day. I actually feel a bit awkward about this, but since Valentine's Day is fast approaching I thought I might as well ask. I'll probably sound stupid though. Well, here it goes...

I've actually been spending a lot of time with a girl from my old school. I've known her since I was eight and we've always been in classes together. A group of us used to hang out all the time. But lately we've been doing a lot by ourselves. I like her, but like Master of All, I'm not sure how she feels. Do you think I should do anything for her on Valentine's, or just wait?

I'll try posting it on the advice thread at some point. I've never actually used that thread, so I don't know what the replies will be like. Still, worth a try.

I'll probably give her a rose or some chocolates or something, but, I think you're right, I've talked to her a bit about it, but not much...

Anyway, on a totally unrelated note, can I suggest a new topic?

What Australian capitals have you visited and did you do anything special there?

I've been to Melbourne, Canberra, Adelaide and Hobart. Canberra was where I went for my Grade 6 camp, Hobart was with my cousins who live in Tasmania, I stayed for a fornight with them during the summer holidays last year. Adelaide was for my liitle sister's check-up as she had to be flown there when she was born, barely breathing. She was blue in the face and only Mum and Dad saw her. I saw her about a fortnight later, when they had managed to help her. However, a few years later we all needed to go to Adelaide for a check-up. Very memorable, and it's a nice city.

And Melbourne is the state capital, so it'll be weird if I haven't went there by now.

Worth discussing?

Seeing as my quotes are playing up for me, I'll have to to do it this way. Unless I used bold.

Adelaide's not a completely nice and great city? Oh well, seemed nice enough at the time. Then again, I wasn't there for long...

That is what I hope to be saying. If I don't do anything, I probably feel more annoyed with myself than if I do. I don't know, I guess I just value the opinion and thoughtful insight of many of my fellow forum-goers. Yes.

And yes. Braces. I know all about them...

I actually only got mine off a few months ago and I've only been wearing my retainer-plate. But I first got told I needed braces in Term 3, 2005. So when I was in 12 and Year 7, and I had to wear the bands until about March or so in 2006. And then it was the expansion device, which was really awkward And finally it was the braces, tightening the braces, cleaning said braces, etc.

At first I hated it. Aching jaw, tense teeth, build up of saliva. But when it was time to get them off and start wearing the plate, if felt really strange with out them. I didn't miss them at all, though. But yeah, it's better when you get them off and when you're done with the plate, which I won't be for some months yet, I think. I'm not sure, but I think there's different devices for different people/teeth problems, etc.

I had mine on the top row of teeth, but for some reason they needed to expand all my mouth to fit them on. Well, it meant several trips to Ballarat every 2-3 months, so not complaining that much.

Well, I home from school sick today, but the strong smell of smoke has started wafting over here now. But I'm used to that, there's often smoke around here. But a good thing is they've managed to raise about 75 million for the bush-fires. I've been watching the news on the TODAY show, out of interest. And the story about that koala Samantha is great too. Valentine's Day is tomorrow, a happy time for some, but very unhappy for most I'm guessing this year.

I read over those previous Aussie clubs, and I was a bit surprised about what went on in them. This club is good though, I think. No-ones really flamed each other.

Lol at the third one. But for the second one, wouldn't it be the opener of the club who becomes the leader? Or did multiple people think they had the idea first?

And I was wondering when someone would ask me that. Well, for one I'm one of those people who have trouble getting to and staying asleep most nights. Not exactly an insomniac, but an awkward sleeper. I'm often wide awake at nights and tired later on at bad times.

I suppose another reason is that I have a big family (two parents and eight kids/teenagers including me) and one of my brothers broke the internet modem months ago, meaning I can't use my laptop. So I have to share the only unbroken computer in the lounge room, which during the day is always either being used or too much noise in the room to use. So I use at night, especially on Fridays and Saturdays.

A bit tl,dr I know, but that's why. Having a big family can be painful.
