Who agrees that this was one of the worst fillers in the whole advanced series? I almost slept during this episode.

Yeah, this one and the relicanth episode were very weak...-.-
The most episodes between the 6. and the 7. badge were crappy...even the second groudon VS Kyogre episode...

Today's episode wasn't too bad, but it wasn't too good either. Just some random ho-hum filler. And the ABC islands looked nothing like A,B, and C's.

THAT'S because there are "ABC" Islands in real life. Curacao,Aruba and one I forgot(theese Islands were used for oil in WW2) seems cool they named it that.
Was an ok filler.

" So he's professor Birch? Up until now I never even knew his name. Just thought he was some guy who loved Pokemon. "

Not an exact quote but...did anyone besides me find this funny/odd? I mean...Joi's suppose to be running a school, yet she just lets some stranger roam around the children and pool without even asking his name?! What if he was a pedophile? o-o;

Maybe I just think too much though...*sweatdrops*

Either way, not a bad episode. A lot more interesting than what's been happening in Japan, that's for sure. <<

It was another standard branched evolution episode. Not that I cared much for the episode, but lots of other stuff I found interesting.

Nurse Joy's new voice actress has greatly improved. She now sounds almost the same as the original. The Trainer Choices have all been very good this season, did 4kids finally hire a guy who knows what he's doing? Let's hope this keeps up the rest of the season. It's also upsetting that a filler like this has excellent animation which they could have used for the second Groudon/Kyorge episode instead.

Another perfect oppurtunity for May to strip into a bikini and she didn't do it. What a wasted opportunity.

Yes. So true.

Meh episode. Trainer's Choice was too easy, but it was right (thank god). Alright otherwise.

My score: 7/10
TV.com Score: 9.2/10 (WTF?)

I definitely liked this episode better than last week's. It dragged a bit in the middle while they were searching for the evolutionary material, but otherwise the episode was good. It was great to see Professor Birch again, and I love gorebyss. Team Rocket had two great lines in the episode too. I liked when they vowed that they'll get unstuck or they're not Team Rocket, then when they can't get out they said they should probably get new names. LOL :D I also liked James saying the infamous "Can you hear me now?" at the end. The two kids were interesting too.

7/10 for me.

Would you believe it, this episode bored me so much when it was first released in Japan that I purposely didn't watch it? I tuned in to about a minute of action (when Birch was being introduced) and then flipped the channel. If fans like me can't even get into it, I wonder how 4Kids! fairs in dubbing. Can you say numb brains?

Well there's been about 3 so far? We shouldn't jump the gun. And speaking of which, what was this episode's TC?

Actually, this one wreaked of a rehash of the Bellossom/Vileplume episode. Even to the point that the Gorebyss island dweller wanted a Huntail and Huntail island dweller wanted a Gorebyss. Get creative writers.

The Verzion Plug was amusing I guess.

Holy crap! I forgot that entirely! (possibly because I never liked the Bellossom/Vileplume episode)

...But there's been episodes like this one where it is similar to another episode.

One example A Scare to Remember and Bound for Trouble (well it was IMO)

The episode was alright, kind of boring still. "Can you hear me now?" -lol - I mean hell, this reminded me of the Bellossom/Vileplume episode from a while back. Atleast it taught those "children" how to evolve Pokemon - unlike us Teens who are experts at the games. ^_^

7/10 for it being sorta like that Bellossom/Vileplume episode and for being sort of boring...

If it weren't for Awesome TR battles, Prof. Birch involvement, Meowth's Boss Dream making sense and the fact that Nancy & Keith wanted the Pokemon they were supposed to be against, this episode would have been terrible. The "ABC Islands" made no sense and I hope that was just a dub name, either way it was stupid to call them that because those symbols looked nothing like ABC's.

After Grovyle's Bullet Seed didn't work.

Jessie: What you Seed is What you get!

Wow! BEST JOKE EVER! Thats Comedy Gold right there! Thats just what I want more of from 4Kids. [/sarcasm]

Prof. Brich thought that SALT water was delicious? Eeeeew. The only was Salt Water tastes good if its on an apple. Believe me I know what I'm saying.

After finding the Deep Sea Tooth in Cave #2 why did they expect something to happen to the Clampearl, I mean they just had a similar experience just 5 minutes ago.

7/10 for me.

Who said it was salt water? Just because they're on an island doesn't mean fresh water can't exist.

Surprisingly people pay through the nose for mineral water. Why don't they drink Michigan Tap water? We got the minerals you could possibly need.

Back on topic. The rocks on the islands were Japanese characters that the island was named after as an inside gag. 4Kids was too lazy to repaint them. So for the first time in YEARS Japanese characters escaped the digital painters to show where this show comes from.

Heh, OK episode. Huntail and Gorebyss are both neat Pokemon. Anyone else get the feeling that we've been seeing too much of Clampearl lately?

And you're right, there really are ABC islands. Now, they're not actually called A, B, and C, that's just what their names start with. I think they're somewhere near Alaska.

PDL
1st October 2005, 10:46 PM
well, at least they explained about item evolution through having to give the item to the pokemon and have them hold it rather then simply comming into contact with it.

but I was kinda dissapointed about how they left out Goreabyss' somewhat gruesome feeding habits...

How is an episode about wild Bellossom and Vileplume warring over territory so similar to an episode about two islands whose people each prize a Pokemon their island is known for? It was similar to other episodes but not that similar to the Bellossom/Vileplume one except in that it concerned research into branched evolution.

The episode got quite boring around the middle but otherwise was fairly good/average. The Kingler mecha has to be one of the best TR mech's EVER.

This episode was ok.

It taught us trading with an item evolves Pokemon.I think.
Actually it taught us again that anime Pokemon don't evolve by trading.

Of course, this means that the evolutions of Machamp, Golem and such will probably never be explained since their trade evolutions require no items.

Sorry for the delay, but here's my rating even though this time I came to post about a very weird edit in this episode;
16/20

Basically at the end when Huntail and Gorebyss were fighting Team Rocket, they changed the order of the attacks,

Dub: Confusion;Thunder;Screech
Original: Confusion;Screech;Thunder

They did this so they could put in a Verizon pun?!

p.s. Huntail Rox!

This was just a Johto filler masquerading in an eel-skin coat.
The fact that scenes and explanations were needlessly repeated twice just to accomodate for the branched evolution really didn't help things either.

Have to say that I thought Gorebyss and Huntail's (pointless) dub voices were pretty neat though. And thats a good thing, because its hard to come across a pokémon with a decent dub voice these days...'IMO'

Actually it taught us again that anime Pokemon don't evolve by trading.

While there were a couple of trades in the anime, the writers realized that it would be ridiculous to have Pokemon trade-evolve like in the games. Why? Because that would mean having to give your Pokemon to someone, and by doing this, what's they say they wouldn't take the Pokemon and run? The writers came up with an idea that using the Pokemon center teleport system would work like trading(they did this before, with Misty's Poliwhirl).

It makes sense, since the trade center remains in a Pokemon center.

While I admit that they could have had the two kids trade their Pokemon back and forth, the writers probably didn't want to use that(although they said that at the end that people were trading their Pokemon) so they used the shtick that Misty's Poliwhirl went through when it evolved to Politoed.

I did hear about the change of the attacks in the end of the second battle. Not that I am complaining - I'm getting sick and tired of Pikachu zapping Team Rocket until they are blown away with thunder attacks. Of course, I did see the edit a bit now that I heard about it.

I enjoyed this episode and seeing Prof. Birch again is a nice treat since he is my favorite Prof. It's interesting to see how Clampearl aevole into Hntail and Gorebyss with the Deepsea Tooth and Scale, makes one wonder how Clampearl first evolved into Huntail and Gorebyss since it looks like the Scales and Teeth come from Huntail and Gorebyss themselves, perhaps it has something to do with the minerals in the water.

It was convenient that the Deepseateeth were on the island that loved Gorebyss and the Deepseascales were on the island of Huntail-lovers.
I myself prefer Gorebyss, because it can learn healing attacks along with damaging ones. Gorebyss may look girly, but it has a more useful list of learnable moves.

Huh, weird lol. Prof Birch actually appeared a lot in Hoenn despite my earlier claims that he rarely appeared. But he only appeared in Fillers like this one.

It focused too much on evolution which is a boring subject especially when you know all about it. I didn't understand why Gorebyss and Huntail were able to survive out of water in one scene though. I thought they were eels.

Overall, a cute rivalry between a girl and boy made it a little entertaining. But that's it. 4/10

This episode was ok... It was cool to see a Clampearl again, this time introducing DeepSeaScale and DeepSeaTooth and how Clampearl evolves. It was cool seeing Gorebyss and Huntail for the 1st time. Both Pokemon are very strong. It was cool seeing a rivalry between the girl and boy from 2 different islands. Interesting how the Gorebyss Island resident wanted a Huntail, and the Huntail Island resident wanted a Gorebyss. It was odd that the islands were named A B and C Islands.

Seeing Clampearl evolve into the different evolotions at the same time was cool. Cool to see a rivalry between the boys and girls. Seeing Prof Birch again was cool. Odd How the boy wanted Goybyse and the girl wanted Huntail. But saying that I am a boy and I prefer Goybyse.

Two ugly Pokemon getting an episode to together. It's better than them both getting an individual one I suppose. I was surprised that Joy did not know who Prof. Birch was but I guess he's not world famous like Oak is. The two kids were annoying too but that's all that this episode had.

I suppose the only good redeeming factor of this episode was the addition of Professor Birch. For the rest, this episode was merely a filler that had big similarities with a previous filler episode back in Johto. Not the most strongest episode, but an mediocre one.

This was an OK episode, not good but not bad either. It's odd how the island's name were generic A, B and C, 4kids should've been more creative about naming the islands. It's good to see Clamperl's evolutions Gorebyss and Huntail in the same episode. Professor Birch's appearance was good too, I liked how he explained Clamperl's evolution process to the kids. Keith and Nancy were kinda annoying, but their rivalry was interesting.

I want to say that I've seen this episode once before, but the only familiar scene was in the beginning when those two kids were riding n their Huntail and Gorebyss. The rest of the episode wasn't that familiar. It's probably just that one scene I remember.

Huntail and Gorebyss are two Pokemon I always forget exist.

Sorry for the (just over) nine year old quote I'm pulling up, but for those who say the names for the islands were just generic names, apparently this is why they're called that:

THAT'S because there are "ABC" Islands in real life. Curacao,Aruba and one I forgot(theese Islands were used for oil in WW2)
