View Full Version : If the bosses of PMD were immune to status...

For all the boss fights in PMD & I'm talking about all versions, there really is not much strategy in there other than to chuck a Sleep, X-eye, Totter, or whatever kind of status-afflicting seed at them & just wail on them.

But...

What if ChunSoft decided to be a bunch of wise guys & made all of their bosses immune to all of the status afflictions in the game? It's what all the other RPG makers do to their bosses; otherwise, they would be a bit too easy.

If I were to sum it up, once the player gets to a boss, they'll think, "Oh, I'll just throw a Sleep Seed at them." They do so, only to find out that it has done nothing. The boss would bellow out to them:

HAHAHAHAH!! Status afflictions?!
USELESS!!!

The boss would then proceed to rip the player's team a new one & the player would end up like this, (http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2008/038/939452_20080208_screen006.jpg) unless the player is calm & level-headed.

...Yeah...

I would find that hard. For Dialga it took me a sleep or X-eye seed (I forgot). It was so epic. I think majority of the bosses I faced in PMD1 and 2 I used at least one status changing seed. Scary.... ¬¬

When I had Blue (traded for FFXII:RW), I went threw the story and some other legendaries after that without using a single seed ;_;

Even if the bosses were immune to status afflictions, they'll still get pwned as usual.

I would die.

...Okay I exaggerate too much, but Primal Dialga is really a pain in the a** that I absolutely needs to use seeds on it.

I must admit, in red rescue team, i didnt use a single seed, i had no room in my items thingymagigy. but in explorers of time, they were a must for me, especialy with more room in my items thingmabobby (what are they called again?) and dialga is almost impossible to defeat unless you are way overpowered (im talkin' 90-100 here) because that roar of time is so crummy!!!

To be honest, I beat pretty much every legendary I faced except Dialga without using any items. :/

Thank God Chunsoft has not come to its senses yet.If it was not for those Sleep,Stun and X-Eye Seeds(Read:Causes Hallucinations)I would have NEVER EVER PWN'D all those bosses.Thank you Chunsoft!]

Eh-heh-heh.......

Are you telling the truth? If yes, awesome!

It is quite a pain in the ....whatever but just two sleep/stun/blinker/X-eye seeds should be enough.Oh and some Reviver seeds.I used two.Pray to god He does NOT catch the blinker seed and throw it back at you,HITTING YOU!

Even if the bosses were immune to status afflictions, they'll still get pwned as usual.

i DONT THINK SO!

Yes me too

I did not use even one Status inducing seed in MD1.It was MD2 which forced the status crap out of me!

If chunsoft did this it would make me more happy as the bosses are way too easy to beat(Recruiting that is a different matter completely)

Even if bosses are immune to status infliction, they still wont be very hard to beat...(unless you are seriously underleveled by alot)

There are still moves like agility and protect/detect/counter/mirror coat which helps out alot in boss battles :p

Not to mention endeavour too xD

i never used a status on the PMD bosses i had to do. i allways level grind them.

I would still kill all the bosses in less than a minute on PMD1. But with Primal Dialga... I would die.

But I've tried using seeds in PMD2 and it won't let me!

I would eventually find a decent strategy to brutally annihilate the boss. I always do. Primal Dialga is a major example here. I fought him, lost two trillion times (never called for a rescue...if you even can in that dungeon) and ran out of any object that wasn't me or my partner.

It really sucked, but I pulled through.

But I don't usually need to use seeds anyway, since usually I can just pound the boss's face in quite easily. Reviver Seeds don't count, though, because they are always and forever useful. :P

I'm not sure. :< Being stuck in the "embargo" status would be quite the challenge (embargo is where you can't use items, right?), but still not that big a deal unless you're at some sad sac level where you deserve to be pumbled to the ground without a free break. Anyway, in the end all it might do is drive some people to improve their move set with the same status inducing moves or it might just drive them insane. This might be a good idea for one of those super tough 99 floor dungeons with some ungodly hard boss, no getting out with a sleep seed or whatever.

SHADOW DRAGON

It would have taken me much longer to beat PMD1/2.

TrainerCasey
19th May 2009, 11:52 PM
I would just have one thing to say to myself if they couldnt be affected...

"Im screwed."

I usually rely on status conditions and then tough moves to beat my opponents so that would proabably screw my strategies up. :(

Hihiroshi
20th May 2009, 12:02 AM
Well to tell the truth I though that does seed din't affect the bosses so I beat them without using them, even Primal Dialgia which was difficul then I erased the game and found out that you can use those seeds on them XP . So when I challenge Primal Dialga again knowing that those seeds affected him it was a little easy beating him.

The game would be impossible and I'd throw it on the ground and stomp on it.

the game will be a little more hard. but not impossible

I'm not sure how much easier or harder it would make the game, but it would change Bulbasaur from being ridiculously awesome to ridiculously awful in PMD1.

I loved it if they actually did this, but they should also make the bosses stronger, give them more HP, more then 4 moves (some moves he uses at high HP, some at low for example).
Bosses also need custom moves that only they can use in the boss fight (they forget it after you reqruited them). This way you actually need a strategy for it, as now its way to easy.
You don't need defensive/healing strategy, no running away at a certain point (i probably think about it like this because i'm a Final Fantasy fan ^^). Its just nuking, and most bosses
during the game (like articuno in PMD1 for me) are way too powerful for some teams, i used cubone + bulbasaur, Powder Snow = instant death, unless i overleveled myself.

I beat some of the bosses without using status conditions, and I didn't really find it to be that much more difficult than defeating them while using status conditions.

I would hate that. Bosses being immune to status problems as well?!
Like orbs do nothing to bosses?! I would hate that. It's better to let them get status problems.

BlitzBlast
25th May 2009, 8:08 AM
That would just cause trainers to power level. Which would be annoying. Better to keep it as it is.

Besides, the actual dungeon is usually harder then the boss.... unless the boss gangs up on you with other pokemon (Darkrai) and you have to defend an impossibly weak escort (Cresselia).

Ninjabait used Fissure!
It's a One Hit Knock Out!

I would just continue the battle as normal to be honest, though without seeds. Might use a few more reviver seeds.

I never did that!!! I didn't think the seeds were useful and would sell them (except revival).I feel REALLY stupid.

I would hate that. The bosses are hard enough as it is. A little too hard, in some cases.

If Legends had the ability to evade stat changes, my supreme(yet slightly pathetic) ability to slay legends will have been rendered completely,100% ... ...useless.
I tend to continue using Smokescreen (as I'm a cyndaquil) and barage the legend whilst made a "whiffer". This way, I can do all the damage whilst receiving oh so little.

works for me, but quite frankly it's no fun. give it a go if ur in a hurry to defeat a legend beacuase you've been playing ur DS too long and ur eyes are burning out of their sockets...

So basicly...I'd be pwned straight away - unless I was at a type - advantage.

It would be more harder, And maybe you could spend lots of days trying to beat a legendary. And of course, it will be very frustrating.

I think all seeds and statuses suck.
I just use powerful ranged moves against them and they die.

At least till I got Endeavor (cheapest move against a boss EVER, and it's awesome.)

With the hardest bosses Articuno (PMD1 Red, hardest boss of the game with no access to the town) and Primal Dialga (PMD2 Darkness), I threw a seed, attacked as hard as I could, and hoped Powder Snow and Roar of Time wouldn't hit. Almost every time I shut off the power, tried again, or trained. I would need to be an extra 5-8 levels to beat them without seeds.

The bosses were away pathetic to me ~.~

They should make them get stronger a you get stronger, since it seems weird to be able to 1HKO a legendary after all.

Armored Zangoose
24th June 2009, 6:04 PM
No. It wasn't that hard. I never used seeds.

For example,my battle against Primal Dialga, move-by-move:

Cyndaquil used flamethrower. A critical hit.
Primal Dialga fainted.
I win.

Meh, that's why you can't use orbs.

I think if the bosses were immune to status it would make things a little more interesting.
I always thought they were way too easy, I never really had any trouble.

AstralEon
24th June 2009, 10:42 PM
I always thought Regigigas battle was sort of a immune status battle. Because one of the Bronzong used Safeguard which effected the whole team and made them all immune to the seeds and status problems I threw them.

If you really want a immune stats problem battle then don't bring any seeds or moves that will effect them. But eventually you'll be high level which will KO them with 1 hit...

24th June 2009, 10:43 PM
The first time I fought a boss I had a bag full of seeds and status inflicters but never knew how to throw them (sad but true) so I went throught the game without using one except as food when I ran out of apples.......

Statuses seem kinda useless really.

if bosses were immune to status, id chuck PMD2 out the window once i got to primal dialga. it took me a bajillion tries even with stutus, because even if i threw an x-eye seed, it could still use that dumb roar of time! thats why sleep seeds became much more valuble.
