I'm making a thread to discuss about the new Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explores of Sky.

Talk about anything related to Mystery Sky here: Tell your story about how well you like this game, if the game in any better than the previous Darkness/Time version, how far in the game your in, what are your dislikes/likes about the game, etc.

Note: Try to keep spoilers to a minimum.
Also, please do not post that you are needing help in rescuing.
Post them here instead: HELP I'VE FALLEN AND I CAN'T GET UP - PMD [All Versions] Rescue Thread (http://www.serebiiforums.com/showthread.php?t=390635)

I got my game yesterday, and I'm pretty happy with it. So far, it seems extremely close to Time and Darkness, but I know that will change later on.

I like the new episodes (although I haven't played mine yet), and the new shops and Pokemon, like Wynaut and Wobbuffet. (:

I ended up as a Vulpix, and I chose Eevee as my team mate (I hope to evolve her to a Leafeon later). I was thinking about choosing a starter for more power, but I chose Eevee for it's evolutions and cuteness. And if we die in dungeons, at least we will have been a cute team to die. xD

We are team Toast, by the way. I wouldn't ask about the name. ;)

Same, got it yesterday too. Sky has more resembles to the T/D but with a few new features.

For my team, I chose my previous team I had in T/D. Which was me, Cyndaquil and my partner, Treecko. I just couldn't deny myself in choosing the other Pokemon. I grown attached to my regular team.

As for a team name, I called my team, "Legends". My team will raise again and go forth on this adventure and re-conquer the lands once more. Hence the "Legends" part.

I'm currently at 'Chapter 6, Team Skull' in the story. Most of it I already know what's going to happen.

I also finished one the Special Episodes. And I have to tell you, these special episodes are no pushovers. This first one was quite serious. I have failed several times but managed to beat it. I would like to tell more about to but I rather not spoil the surprises.

I'll wait for about a month before I reveal some spoilers.

Got the game yesterday, haven't gotten very far. Have unlocked Bidoof's Mission, but haven't seriously tried it yet. Anyone else have their starter pokemon start with an Egg Move? I started as Eevee (with Riolu as my partner), and started with Flail, apparently.

Other than that, I like the updated graphics on a number of things and found the new intro lovely, but other than that, haven't reached many of the new additions.

Did come across a few lookalike items tho. I did find the Mix Elixer amusing (works for Linoone only), and the Reviser Seed, if used, is funny for the dialogue...but rather useless otherwise. I'm not sure what to make of these as of yet...it's...certainly different, anyhow.

One of these things happened to me.

When I was in Mt. Bristle. I was half way done on the mission: I was battling a Starly, I was low on hp(about 9hp left). So I just opened up my bag, grabbed an Oran Berry, and ate it. But what happen was instead of healing as usual, I took 10 damage, which ended my mission.

I was like "what??". Then I remember about an alert I got earlier from the game that told me there was some kind of different "Oran" berry that said it had an "e" instead of "a"; "Oren".

I happened to eat that which ended up killing me. =(

Got to watch out for those.

Same goes with "Reviver Seeds". "Reviver" - "Reviser". I read it on the booklet. Don't know what this one does though.

Eeveefreak
15th October 2009, 3:00 AM
You get the '*insert name* used a Reviver Seed!' message thing, then a pause, while your HP is still 0, and then another message that goes, wait, that wasn't a reviver seed, that was a reviser seed, and you go 'what?' And it says something about the Reviser Seed, with an 's,' not a 'v' sorry or something and you burst out laughing and faint anyhow.

It was amusing, and annoying at the same time. I haven't run into another one, and I don't recall the exact wording, because it happened yesterday. I've also run into the Oren Berries...but haven't made the mistake of eating them, because as soon as I got that message about them, I looked at it and went 'oh, it hurts you, not heals you? Screw that' and tossed it.

Of course, it later occured to me it might have been handy to save and chuck at an enemy later. *chuckles* Ah well.

Just got it yesterday, at the part where Team Skull steals all the Perfect Apples from the tree in Apple Woods and you get blamed. I'm an Eevee, and my partner is a Vulpix. Have unlocked and beaten the Bidoof mission, which was surprisingly not that difficult. Granted, taking on a Jirachi at Level 12 with only Tackle as an offensive move was annoying, but once I ate a Violent Seed everything went fine. Loved the story behind it-although, in a weird way, does this mean Bidoof could technically be the reason you were pulled into the past, since he wished for a new pal and you and your partner became those "pals?" Makes me wonder...

As for the new items...eh, I've learned to check my Oran Berries now and stuff. Did get one of those Linoone-only elixirs. That earned a luagh out of me. Am basically going to use extra Items that won't help for the Spinda Cafe and stuff, which is a pretty cool place so far.

I do love some of the new graphics, like the title screens for the chapters and the different colors for Bidoof and Sunflora's journals. Little things like that make me happy, I spose.

You beat the mission at Lv. 12? Really? It took me Lv. 17 to beat Jirachi.... failed 3 times on her.

What I find it more weird about this was you were able to access your items and money from the future and use it in the past. That got my mind going....

I was amazed it took me only two tries to get Skitty. The first I got was Eevee. Usually it takes me 10+ even with an answer list, but now I got it without that. Just... madness. :D

15th October 2009, 3:40 PM
What the hell! You turned down Eevee for Skitty?! The worst starter in the game?! Normalize and Ghost-types lilke Dusknoir don't mix, girlfriend! And good luck on Primal Dialga (coughSteelcough).

Eevee has the Run Away ability. If its HP gets too low then it will run away. Thats not good....and Im pretty sure it makes Eevee the worst partner.

15th October 2009, 6:26 PM
Seems all starters and partners now come with an egg move apiece. I started with Riolu (knew Bite), and chose Meowth as a partner. Meowth knows Hypnosis, which has helped plenty of times, I can tell you! Right now, Team Aura is trying to graduate from the guild. Yeah. Not easy.

And the special episodes, those are a nice touch. In the Bidoof one, I actually managed to beat Snover, Gligar, and Bagon, and they acted like they were beating me! Then, of course, the rest of the guild showed up and kicked ***. Rollout made Jirachi a bit easier as well.

Oh, and I'm currently struggling through the Sunflora one. The last fight- you're outnumbered, type-trumped, and you start off with a burn! How in the name of Oren berries are you supposed to do anything with that?!

On the subject of Oren berries, I think those lookalike items are pretty cool. I'm good at spotting them. Haven't gotten a Mix Elixer yet. Most I've got are the Oren berry (you lose 10 HP instead of healing 100), Gone Pebble (go into Endure state, rather than throw for damage), Dough Seed (Instead of going down one level, moar money appears on the next floor!), and the Dropeye Seed (makes the whole dungeon dark instead of enhancing vision). The Oren berry isn't even that good. Serebii.net erroneously claims it lowers HP by 100. It only does by 10! Haven't tried using the Gone pebble or Dropeye Seed yet. The Dough Seed is awesome.

Eeveefreak
15th October 2009, 7:09 PM
I've also recently discovered the Slip Seed. Lookalike of the Sleep Seed, it...makes whatever eats it walk on water. Pretty nifty. I haven't seen the Gone Pebbles or those other two seeds yet, though.

I wonder if the egg moves are set. Now that it's been mentioned, I have a partner Riolu, and he knows Bite as well. Didn't actually seriously notice that before. As an Eevee as myself (the Run Away part might suck as a partner, but when Eevee is the Leader that ability is nullified), I got Flail. Anyone else gotten anything different?

Midnight Sun
15th October 2009, 9:43 PM
Eevee really does get aggrivating as your partner. I hadn't checked-up much on abilities, so I didn't know that she'd be running away all the time. Instead of being protective, that usually makes her faint, so we're both out of the dungeon. I would start over, but I feel like I'm too far into this, although it's only 2 days I've had it, and I don't want to. Maybe if it becomes an extreme liabilty, I'll start over.

If Eevee is considered one of the worst partners, who would you consider the best?

I also started Bidoof's special episode yesterday, and I didn't expect it to be so tough. I'll get through it....eventually. Also, like AstralEon said, I think it's really weird how your bank total and items are connected in both games. Why can't there just be two different save files? The way it is seems way more confusing.

All in all, I'm still loving this game. (:

I'm currently in Chapter 9. So far so good.

The game is getting quite interesting. Especially the new features.

I have found many different kinds of 'fools' items during my adventure.

"Vie Seed"
"DropEye Seed"
"Oren Berry"
"Reviser Seed"
"Mix Elixir"

I wonder how many there are.

Oh, the only Lookalikes I've found are the Dough Seed, the Reviser seed, and the Oren Berry. I ate a Dough Seed in Drenched Bluff, expecting to get more money on the next floor...
Apparently the next floor was the last floor :/

This game is great! I found one new feature that I like. When you get one more partner than you can take with you in the dungeon, you can choose who gets sent back, I thought that was cool. I haven't found too many of the other items, but I thought that was really cool that they were added.

Some of the review sites said that each starter/partner gets a egg move... IGN also said 'new features aren't supposed to make a game worse'...

I'm trying to figure out if there is enough diffrence for me to bother getting this game, I won't even have a chance to get it until Sat... you guys are much more optimistic than most of the reveiws.

Eeveefreak
16th October 2009, 5:11 PM
*goes to read the IGN Review* Guy doesn't even seem to know some of the stuff, since he says there's only two new Starters available, and there are five (He apparently didn't realize that Eevee, Vulpix and Shinx are also newly available, not just Riolu and Phanpy, somehow), and also didn't like Time (or the Mystery Dungeon series as a whole) very much, either, which doesn't help their review.

I admit that if I had known that Sky would give Eevee back as a starter option, personally, I'd have skipped Time entirely and waited, myself, as that was one of the things that ticked me off about that game, that they removed Eevee as a starter option, so that in and of itself makes Sky worth it to me.

Otherwise, the storyline is the same, pretty much, with the only major differences being Spinda's Cafe and the five side-storylines (oh, and Manectric instead of Luxray, which is a shame, but understandable with Shinx as a starter option). There are also the 'lookalike items' which vary from good to bad and are sometimes amusing. So really, it's whether you want to shell out the cash for those features and the new starters, more than anything.

That said, it does seem that each starting pokemon has their own specific egg move (as I've seen two Eevees now with Flail and two Riolus with Bite, which is quite a coincidence if it is one)...I wonder what each pokemon gets, now. *intrigued* It also seems that the lookalike items are beneficial when the item they are lookaliked from is not and vice versa. Anyone else seen one that contradicts this?

I finished the 2nd Special Episode. This one was very interesting indeed. Very good background story on a certain character which I would not mention(spoilers).

The ending though was very sad. It got me deep. I wonder what happened to him later in the future, or if he is still alive in the present....

I had fun with this one and it was enjoyable.

I just unlocked that one an hour ago, myself. Am curious to see what it turns out like. The first was interesting, as well, to me, though there was a minor annoying detail...

Tossing that into Spoilers just in case, so I don't reveal something to someone who hasn't played it and the like. *grumbles* I also managed, with careful item usage, to beat Jirachi at 12th level, mnyself, so it's definitely doable. I hadn't yet discovered any Violent Seeds, but a few Sleep Seeds and an X-eye Seed helped a lot, as did several Graveler Rocks.

I must admit, I kind of like the added variety in Outlaw Jobs in Sky over Time/Darkness. Admittedly, the 'gang' Outlaw Jobs can be very tough, but they're nowhere near as annoying as the 'chase the fleeing outlaw down before it finds the stairs and escapes' ones. I also like the fact that the 'find me X item' jobs seem to have a set floor these days, too. I haven't tried any escort missions yet...so don't know if those are any different.

I'm starting to recruit some new members now. Trapinch is currently my main 3rd member party, she's 1 level higher than me and my partner but still weak.

I'm loving the new outlaw missions too. They are most entertaining and fun.

I was surprised to find the Secret Bazaar. I forgot all about it. Found my first visit at AMP Fields.

I've also unlocked and beaten Special Episode 3. This one was rather easy and wasn't much of an good episode. It was more like a "filler" =) Still, it was fun.

OK, word around GameFAQs is that answering "Yes" to the personality quiz question asking if you've played Time/Darkness before ups your chances of recruiting Pokemon. If this is true, how much does it influence it?! If it does influence it, this is good for my future attempts to recruit Kecleon (I'm only a level 51 Lucario with nowhere near max IQ, so I'm not even trying yet).

I think it's only certain pokemon, and Kecleon isn't included. I'm not positive there. I haven't really paid it much mind. What interested me more was the fact that it's also stated that saying yes also ups the odds of being able to get the new starter options by giving you questions that have those personality answers, I think. Interesting, anyhow

Additionally, I'm happy to see the ability to select multiple items to buy is now an option at the Kecleon stalls in Treasure Town. And I also like that saving at the well business, and that your additional partners wait in Spinda's Cafe, kind of a cute touch, too.

Side note, did anyone else actually manage to beat Team Rogue in Bidoof's Wish? It would have been nice if they actually made any comments upon that, instead of just having them toss you off like it was nothing, still. Meh. c.c

I finally beat Dialga yesterday, and now I'm my own team. Still need to evolve, though. The problem is that both my partner and I need certain items.

I have a question. I took a job and it was in Treeshoud Forest, I was supposed to get an item from a criminal. When I made it to the 9th floor, it said that the criminal must be around somewhere instead of him being right by me. I looked throughout the entire floor and didn't find anyone/anything. Eventually my time was ending because I got the 'Something's stirring...' comment. Did anyone else get this?

And, another question. I'm a Vulpix and my partner is an Eevee. What do you think is the best evolution for Eevee? I was planning on Leafeon, because it's my favorite, but I'm not so sure. I'd appreciate opinions. (:

Well, probably for one because they're not Totodiles...I'm an Eevee and a Riolu. I'll also offer this bit of advice. Recruit your own Electrike in the Dungeon. Their Lightningrod ability should help you out a lot. I liked it, myself, and I'm not water typed. I also have a Paras teammate. Spore FTW. :) Good luck.

One question why does it show Riolu using aura sphere in the commercial but on the spinoff dex on the homepage it says he doesn't learn it.

I was fooled by this too. Not Aura Sphere; I think it's Focus Blast.

Anyways, I'm currently doing Special Episode 4. Half way done with it, I think. I'll give a summary about it once I'm done with it.

Also, in the Main Story, I'm in Chapter 16.... I think. My memory is not doing so well right now -.-'....

Finally picked up Explorers of Sky. I'm a Riolu (no joke! I answered honestly, and I ended up with Riolu!) named Kris (odd, since I spell my name C-H-R-I-S and not K-R-I-S. I dunno) with an Eevee named Eve as my partner (I like that name because it's a palindrome). Since I got it so late last night and I still had homework to do, I only made it past Drenched Bluff. Anyway, I ended up with Bite while Eve got Flail, which I deleted for Sand-Attack. I can't wait to get started on the Special Missions, especially Igglybuff and Grovyle's ones! Though I get the distinct impression that after the third one, I'll ship Loudred x Sunflora.

Finished the Rescue Azurill mission as I like to call it, thus unlocking the Bidoof's Wish mission. I struggled a bit with getting through the dungeon, but after my fourth time through, I formulated a strategy. There should be a Violent Seed for sale at Kecleon Market. Buy it. Then you need a Totter Seed. If you have those, Jirachi should be easy for you. First, throw the Totter Seed at it. Then, while it's confused, maximize your Defense and minimize Jirachi's attack (the last part is probably overkill, but I had time until the confusion wore off.) Then eat the Violent Seed and Tackle away. Be advised that Jirachi can use Confusion, and your Special Defense isn't affected in any way, so a Reviver Seed is a plus. I personally didn't need it, but Confusion was enough to make me panic.

I really love the ending, and I especially love it when Wigglytuff tried to follow Bidoof and wish for all the Perfect Apples he could ever want. And Chimecho just floats there being a fangirl while everyone else tries to restrain him. Awesome. Loudred really does have a big mouth.

Adding to Rakurai, I think it turns off some of the basic tutorial messages at the beginning, i.e., when you pick up an Oran Berry for the first time, the window that tells you what the Oran Berry does won't pop up. I'm not very sure about this though.

This special episode was superb. Best one yet so far. I don't see how it was hard for others. 'Agility' gave me the advantage.

I have noticed something about the movepool on the special episode. It seems that you are given different moves each time you start over an episode again.

I found out about this when my little bro decided to do Special Episode 3.
His movepool for Sunflora was; Growth, Razor Leaf, Grasswhistle, Worry Seed.
And I had: Pound, Ingrain, Razor Leaf, Grasswhistle.

I'm guessing it has affected everyone else as well.

Right now, I have $13.49, but my dad said(although he'll probably forget as usual) he'd give me $1.51 so I can have exactly $15.00. Toys R Us also pries EoS for $30, for people who never knew that. If my dad gives me the money and I don't buy lunch at school, but my mom still gives me a dollar, I should have enough by the end of Nov. 2009. I wonder if there is some deeper meaning to this. When I played through Special Episode 5, it was Dusknoir who dealt the final blow to Dialga. Celebi did nothing at all, and my Dig attack did a large amount of damage, but Dialga was ultimately defeated by a Shadow Sneak from his once-loyal right-hand pokemon, Dusknoir.
I just got the Guildmaster rank today, and am waiting for Entei's challenge request. I got the challenge requests from Mewtwo, Raikou, and Suicune in no time flat, but Entei hasn't offerred a challenge (then again, I would be at a disadvantage because I am a Lucario).

Yeah; he had already lost his reason and now had truly lost his mind. I wouldn't have held anything back if I were facing him at that time, no matter how much I had once trusted him. As I said, Celebi couldn't do any noticeable damage, considering the fact that both of Dialga's types have a strong defense against Grass-type attacks. Heck, Dig was the only thing that made me confident in Grovyle's odds in the fight.
On another note, I've been working extremely hard collecting the different species items, and there are still hundreds that I still need. I had stockpiled Time with one-star items that I could swap in Sky, but now that all of them have been sent over I'm already running low. But hey, there are a few hundred species items, most of which require 5 others for the initial swap, so I wouldn't expect it to be anywhere near easy.
Anybody done well in Destiny Tower? I went as Floatzel and got to about floor 12; I was about to enter the room with the stairs- I could see them- and I was taken out by a Ninjask.

The game seems pretty easy now because I devoted some good hours to just leveling up. Right now I'm at level 62, and I'm holding a Miracle Chest, which helps a ton.

Randomly, I'm just going to throw this in. If you are having trouble with a boss or something of that sort, what I always do is use a Violent seed on me and my partner (to maximize attack) and then use a Vile seed on the enemy (lowers defences). When I did this for Dialga, I used dig and it did over 400 damage. Pretty cool. (:

I know that probably everyone who has this game already does that, but I'm just throwing it out anyways. xD

NEWS FLASH-Officer Magnezone's level revealed!!!

Recently, Officer Magnezone gave away his level while following another exploration team in a bid to capture an outlaw. Upon entering the dungeon(World Abyss), Magnezone's level was found to be 15, much to the surprise and horror of the exploration team. The team was hastily withdrawn after officer Magnezone suffered 425HP damage after being hit by a Nidoqueen's Earth Power. Officer Magnezone now faces charges for being underlevelled.

I don't know how to complete this report.
P.S. Currently trying the arrest again. Wish me luck for not bumping into Earth Power anymore.

P.P.S.: Success!

Does Lopunny know agility? If so, spam it. Spam it hard. HARD. Or use healing wish whenever your teammates get hurt, and eat oran berries.
Also, turn off all of Medicham's non-damaging/non-fighting-type moves. That might help... slightly.

I finished the post-storyline and got the Grass Cornet mission yesterday. Just got Manaphy and unlocked Marine Resort, gaining ability to evolve (no Palkia needed? :o).

Currently at Master ** Rank (cause I don't know where people got the stars). I hope all the missions will lead to Sky Stairways, I love the rescue points there. :3

Special Episode? I think I just finished "Igglybuff the Prodigy" once more. I think I'll be resetting for a good moveset at "Here Comes Team Charm", mainly just because I want to get through again and Loppuny's last moveset is even worse than my first playthrough's ._.

I got this game the day it shipped to the stores in my area! It's so fabulous--I love all the extras that were added. My favorite is Spinda's Cafe; I really love making drinks for my team to boost IQ and their stats. Plus there are little extras here and there--as a heads up for everyone, by drinking the beverages Spinda makes you in the store, sometimes, you'll be approached by a Pokemon that will ask to join your team. Rarely, you'll even be given Eggs by another one of Spinda's customers! It's a nice bonus, in my opinion.

On November 1st, I finally reached Guildmaster Rank! And it was a tough climb up accumulating all those rescue points, but I feel accomplished now that I've made it.

Now, I'm just doing jobs and leveling up my team to 100, as well as maxing out IQ. I've yet to start any of the "Special Episodes," but I'd like to complete them all one day.

Ohhh... that surprised me too! I expected him to be a much higher level when I took a similar job and he joined my team. The Magnemite are also only level 15, which is a real pain when one wants to come into a dungeon with you. I just bring lots of Reviver Seeds. D'=

If you turn off all of Gardevoir's other moves, that should work. =) When I get trapped in a Monster House, I just bring in my Partner (who was a Shinx--now Luxray) and turn off all of his moves besides Discharge... that takes care of everything! Hopefully, it should work with Gardevoir and Healing Wish..?

i haven't gotten as far as anyone i've seen in here (prepping for amp plains; starter is chimchar and buddy is turtwig, both level 27)... but i did want to say that, in "bidoof's wish," i actually managed to beat the team at the end with bidoof. it was funny watching bidoof tackle them to death, and still getting beat up and saved by the guild.

also wondering: is the via seed the one that lets you walk through walls?

Silverninetails
4th November 2009, 11:37 AM
Nope. Via Seed works exactly(I think) like a Warp Seed. The Slip Seed lets you walk on water but not through walls. I believe that the only three ways to walk through walls are:

1) Be certain Ghost-type Pokemon. Examples are the Gastly and Mismagius families and Shedinja.
2) Equip yourself with the Mobile Scarf
3) Use a Mobile Orb

Currently plowing through Zero Isle South. Will go to Dark Crater to battle Darkrai after I die.

I think that "Igglybuff the Prodigy" goes really well with the main plot. If you're new to the game and you play the Special episode first, you'll become "trusting" to the hunter of the outlaw(Nidoking). Then when Dusknoir appears in the main plotline, you'll naturally trust Dusknoir, as Nidoking was correct about Armaldo being an outlaw. This way, the fact that Grovyle was not an outlaw will become more of a shock.

What level? I've leveled Lopunny up, and she still doesn't know it.

I've played the Lopunny Episode again to find out what level I got it, and it was at Lv. 33. to learn Agility. Sorry for a late respond.

During my random missions, I found this one job that had an objective to arrest Houndoom. What surprised me about this was this was no ordinary find and defeat mission. I had to fight a tribe of Houndours and their leader Houndoom. I ended up losing to this mission >.<

They have Flash-Fire ability which made my fire attacks completely useless. With a partner as a Grass type nearly made it impossible. And to top it off, there Fire Fang attacks just completely paralyzed me. AND to make things even worse, Orbs are blocked away from any use. I couldn't even knock out a single Houndour. No way I can't beat this without any type advantages on my team which at the moment I don't have.

I would like to give you the code for it for people to try it out but for some reason it isn't showing anything. =/

Ohhhh... I was very surprised with my first of this sort of mission--but I think mine was Ariados and a mob of Spinarak.

Have you tried suspending the job and looking for the code at the bottom? I think that if you have the mission accepted and active in your Job List, then it won't show the Wonder Mail S code.

Hmm... the Flash-Fire ability is just trouble. Do you have any long-distance moves available to you besides Flamethrower (I'm assuming your starter is a fire type..?)
In Darkness, I was a Cyndaquil with Treecko as my Partner--I taught him Dig so he could defend himself against Fire-type Pokemon. He also got Quick Attack and Energy Ball, which could strike from a distance.
If you don't mind my asking, which starter are you, exactly? For example, Vulpix gets some awesome stalling moves like Imprison and Confuse Ray...
But if you plan to play out this Mission, then I'd say Seeds are your best bet. Reviver Seeds, of course, and X-Eye Seeds, Sleep Seeds, etc. Also, the move Agility will work wonders.

Good luck! I'm willing to help you in any way I can with this, if you'd like. If you still plan on taking the mission, if I can be of any assistance, let me know? I know how frustrating these can be. D=;

Cyndaquil - Me - Quick Attack, Smokescreen, Flamethrower, Overheat
Treecko - Partner - Giga Drain, Quick Attack, Aerial Ace, Energy Ball.

I did disable them with seeds but eventually one of the Houndour used Beat-Up which messed up my line of fire. Which gave them an advantage to attack my partner first. The used Fire-Fang and made Treecko cringe and unable to attack. While I helplessly used Quick attack which did about 60-70 damage and were still able to keep going. Soon enough they boxed me in and Treecko. They just kept Fire-fanging me with cringe status. I tossed items but it didn't do much because I still had 4 Houndour around me and Treecko.

All i know is I either need some better type advantages or get more stronger.

Well after this, I went on and forgot about the mission. Didn't delete it though because I seriously want to finish this one later.

I then started to recruit my future team. Eevee was the first one I need so into Mystifying Forest I went. Took me a while to recruit her. About 3-4 times going back to the dungeon. Eventually I got her and currently training.

After I got Eevee, I had a bunch of Boxes to open up. What surprised me was how very lucky I got coming across to a Box with X-Ray Specs. This was exactly what I needed. After that, I turned in most of my Gummis into shakes and raise my teams IQ to:
Me - 3
Treecko - 2 1/2
Trapinch - 1
Eevee - 1

I then did the Manaphy feature mission and finished it.(They should had made a Special Episode out of this one.)

Later, I went to Shaymin Village to see if I can recruit Shaymin which I did when I got to the top. It was easy getting up there. I also got myself some Sky Gifts while going through the dungeon.

This Shaymin is pretty high leveled; Lv. 55. What surprised me about Shaymin was when I turned him into Sky Form, his Speed permanently increased to double. I let him roam around the dungeon by himself and he was literally flying all over the dungeon floors. I couldn't catch up to him. =P

But right after the mission, he turned back to him original form. This is where I stopped.

I got my copy on my birthday 4 days ago. I'm a Riolu with an Eevee for a partner. Right now I just got to Chapter 10- Dusknoir. I already beat the first two Special Episodes... Bidoof's Wish was a pain!

Anyway, I have two questions (note: I already have played Time and Darkness multiple times).

1. When does the Sky Jukebox get unlocked?
2. What TM moves do you guys suggest for Riolu (because his movepool sucks)? Any suggestions for Eevee as well?

xdragonx
7th November 2009, 4:44 AM
@ AstralEon... (Sorry--I don't want to copy the whole post for the sake of conserving space.)

Ahh! Your Hero-Partner combination was mine in Darkness. =)
I completely forgot about Beat-Up... I ran into problems with that move used by the Houndoom in (I think) Mystifying Forest.

Regarding Moves:
Smokescreen could play a big part in a strategy--I always used it on Bosses... I never had to carry around that many seeds as a result, and it freed up room in my Treasure Bag. Until I evolved, I used Smokescreen, Rollout, Ember, and Lava Plume; when I evolved into Typhlosion, I replaced Smokescreen with Focus Blast (to kill Rock-types which can seriously damage Fire-type Pokemon... plus it can hit from many squares away). But Rollout is a real winner... I used it a lot in Dark Crater against other Fire Types to kill them in one turn--that could help a lot against Houndour/doom.
My Partner had Agility, Energy Ball, Dig, and Mega Drain until he evolved and I reconfigured things a bit. I highly recommend Agility for a mission like this... turn off all the other moves at the start of the fight and spam the game hard... having the hero and partner Pokemon being able to attack four times in one turn can have awesome effects against your enemies. I had him learn Dig so he could specifically defend himself against Fire-type Pokemon... plus he can evade their moves during the turn when he is underground.

Regarding IQ:
Cyndaquil is part of IQ Group C... which provides some excellent bonuses when it comes to instances when you are engaged in battle. One of the best comes at 6... Intimidator, which sometimes gives cringing status to any enemy adjacent to you who tries to attack. You are at 3 stars currently..? So you should know Counter Basher--which will sometimes deal out an equal amount of damage you receive to your attacker. Then at 4, you can learn Clutch Performer, which raises your evasion when your HP is low. Try to use these to your advantage.
Treecko is part of Group D. It learns some similar techniques. Counter Hitter at 3.5, which will sometimes counter-inflict .25% of the damage received from an adjacent Pokemon, then Clutch Performer at 4. It also gets Quick Dodger at 5.5, which raises the chance that it will dodge an attack.

I'd recommend leveling up a little more, plus making drinks using gummies at Spinda's cafe to boost your stats and IQ level. If you and your partner get to a high enough level though, enemy Pokemon attacks shouldn't do that much damage. I like the Mystery Dungeon games in the sense that its easy to increase the level of your Pokemon--I reached level 100 today.
If you want to go for type-advantages, I think it's obvious that Trapinch will do you justice. (=

<3 I loved that Shaymin was added along with the Sky Peak (is that what it's called?) dungeon. I loved doing that little side story... I have two Sky Gifts rotting in my Storage. (Can they be sent over Wifi..? Because if you'd like one or both, you're most welcome to both. They aren't really of that much use to me. Also, do you need an evolutionary item for Eevee? I have too many Lunar and Sun Ribbons.)

Goodness! A special episode revolving around the Manaphy mission would have been spectacular! I never thought of it before.

-edit-

@ Mount Silver:

1. If memory serves, after you beat the main game (Dialga) at Temporal Tower, then climb the Sky Peak, you will unlock the Sky Jukebox. I need someone else's confirmation on this...
2. Ahhh... I played as Eevee this time in Sky. Let's see... I used Quick Attack, Bite, Dig, and one other Move... I'm sorry to say that I can't recall. (I think it might have been Tackle or Flail... both have STAB and a decent amount of PP.) But Dig will help you knock out Rock- and Steel-type Pokemon. (It's really the only useful offensive TM Eevee can learn besides Shadow Ball and Iron Tail.) Quick Attack, obviously because you get STAB, plus Eevee's Adaptability, and it can attack from two squares away, and through your Partner, so if you're stuck in a hall and your Partner has to face a foe one-on-one, you can help from behind.
Riolu... I'm not so sure. Try Quick Attack, Drain Punch/Brick Break/Force Palm/Focus Blast, Shadow Claw if you want type coverage against Psychic Types and Rock Slide if you want to be able to fight Flying-types. Endure is another option that could save you a few Reviver Seeds in the long run... because in MD, the Endure status lasts for several turns, allowing you to wade out attacks that would originally KO you. You do want at least one Fighting-type move, though, for STAB purposes. If no one else responds to this, I will look into this and give you a better idea of what I think could work..? (= Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Thank you for the help! I'll try that out and see how it works for me. I know all the weaknesses and resistances, but whenever I try to make a moveset with good type coverage, I always forget a type or pick a bad move!

Currently, I (my Riolu), knows Bite, Force Palm, Foresight, and Endure; while my partner (Eevee) knows Tackle, Flail, Helping Hand, and Tail Whip; We're both Lv. 17.

Thank you again for the advice!

I'm sorry that I couldn't do more for you. Hopefully as you progress through the game, you'll figure out a moveset that works for you..? (=
Ahh! Was Bite the Egg Move that Riolu is given? (I know Eevee gets Flail.) In that case, you don't have to worry about Shadow Claw for type coverage. My main concern in dungeon games is at least being able to defend myself against Pokemon that have the type-advantage over me... especially if you get caught in a hallway one-on-one against a foe.

I would advise a STAB move on each Pokemon, though. Force Palm will be just fine for Riolu! Tackle with Eevee works wonders--it's got a ton of PP, plus STAB and Adaptability, which both power it up.
If you find that you might want a TM throughout the course of your gameplay, and can't find or buy one, feel free to drop me a PM! (Items can be given through Wifi, correct..?) I've got a ton in storage, plus I always see them offered as rewards for missions on the boards at the Guild. I'd be happy to try to find something for you!--Plus I've got plenty sitting in my Storage, and I don't use them.

As a reminder though, I advise you to carry an extra Oran Berry or two for your Partner because of Eevee's Runaway ability--if its HP drops too low, it will become terrified and flee any enemy Pokemon, be unable to pick up items on the floor or attack.

Well I did it, I beat the challenging mission. I beat it with Treecko and Vibrava, use be a Trapinch, soon to evolve again later.

I changed my tactics and went with Vacuum-Cut. Even though it was a really weak attack move, it still made a different in their HP. Because as soon as they got close I just used a Quick Attack to defeat them. With Vibrava using Dig and Sand Tomb made things much easier.

After that, I met up with Team Charm again and went into Aegis Cave. I knew what to do so it was no problem getting through. The Battle with Regigigas is always epic. I love a good 6 vs 9 battle.

I did a few more extra missions and stopped at the part where I getting ready to head into Azurills nightmare.

I've played the Lopunny Episode again to find out what level I got it, and it was at Lv. 33. to learn Agility. Sorry for a late respond.

Ah, so I know what happened. I, in my offensive state of mind, decided when Lopunny reached Lv. 33 a while ago to not make her learn Agility. So...I'm stuck without it. Any other suggestions before I start this Special Episode over again?

I'm pretty sure it's just random. You said you're Guildmaster Rank, correct? That means you've met the requirements needed to make it available to receive at Spinda's Cafe. I got mine when I was earning my Guildmaster Rank (which I agree, took a tedious amount of time).

You know what you should be able to do: save at the watering hole, take in a gummi and have Spinda keep making drinks out of it--if you don't get Destiny Tower, soft reset and try again. I do this sometimes to get good drinks that boost my stats or IQ more... or aim for a boost at a particular stat.

Regarding my own adventures... I've decided to go after all the Legendaries. *nodnod* Kyogre won't join me for some odd reason... I've gone to the Bottomless Sea multiple times, and it won't join my Exploration Team! It must not like me very much.

I still have a problem with the spinda drink cafe. Is it possible to have the drinks in a dungeon, cause I've been trying to do that and nothing has happened. Also, will spinda say that I have access to destiny tower when I talk to him? Or will he give me access after I have a drink?

xdragonx
10th November 2009, 1:38 AM
@ BlueMew7:
I've never been able to take a drink into a dungeon... whether or not it is possible is unknown to me.
When I got access to Destiny Tower, it was after I drank a beverage I got from Spinda... your character should get an exclamation point over his/her head, along with a message that says you've been given access to a secret area that no one but you is aware of... or something along those lines. Your Wonder Map will open, and you will be granted access to Destiny Tower... there are several other dungeons that can also be acquired this way; some examples I can think of right now are the Devil's Seas and the Southeastern Islands.
Also, you don't have to give him several gummis--like I said before, you can use only one. (Just save before you enter the cafe and keep resetting if you aren't given Destiny Tower. Keep trying--sooner or later, you should receive the notice.)

@ AstralEon:

Vulpix are available at the Sky Stairway--that's where I recruited mine. (= I think they come at around level 17?

@ arceus7:
Oh! Thank you for reminding me of the Aqua Monica! *headdesks* I completely forgot about that...
I'm level 100--so there's no more leveling up for me... I'm aware that it is easier to recruit Pokemon when your Leader is at a higher level.

What's this Destiny Tower thing everyone's talking about? Or rather, what's so special about it?

Destiny Tower: A special dungeon which can only be unlocked via Spinda Cafe Drinks. It's much more unique than the Zero Islands.
Restrictions: Items and money will lost, only the leader may enter, level reduced to 1, IQ skills will be unusable, hidden traps stay hidden even when triggered, and cannot be rescued. Basically it's much more harder than Zero Island South which was by far the hardest dungeon there was, until Destiny Tower came out.

At the end you'll find a special something which actually shows a sequel for the next Mystery Dungeon Game.

I have yet to start the Destiny Tower dungeon though. :D

EDIT: My current rank right now is Master * Rank. Still got a long way to go.

When your in the 0*-*** region, the requirement of points stays pretty much the same.

However...

Once you get to *** rank, the requirement for the next and final rank is 80,000 rank points! It takes forever to get, but I eventually got it.

Question: How does the end of the destiny tower show a sequel for the next game, besides the fact that their is that Arceus statue?

To do list:

1. Get access and complete Destiny Tower
2. Complete Zero Isle Central (Already beat north, east, south, and west)
3. Recruit legendaries
4. Wi-Fi Rescue stuff

One problem is your typing. Fire is a decent choice, electric isn't really going to get you anywhere. What problems are you having with darkrai specifically, is it that cresellia keeps on dying? Are the minions a pain? Or is it just Darkrai himself?

Chimcharrulez97
13th November 2009, 3:15 AM
The minions are the main problem. Shinx can't use electric attacks with Rhyperier around and Mismagius is a real problem for Cresselia. Darkrai itself doesn't pose much of a threat since I put it to sleep using sleep seeds.

Arceus is in the Wiiware PMD games as a recruitable Pokemon, though I haven't a clue as to whether it's actually involved in the game's story, or if it's just thrown in there like most of the legends in PMD 2.

I'm still having trouble with Temporal Spire and Aggron in the Special Episode. Rawr.

Well you seem to be a long time in passing it so I guess I'll show you my way to pass it.

Temporal Spire:
If your referring to defeating Primal Dialga; make sure you have 1-3 Reviver Seeds. 1-2 Stun Seeds, 1-2 Violent Seeds, and a few Sleeps Seeds to keep him sleeping all through the battle.
Once the battle starts. Try to get in front of Primal Dialgas line so this way he will have to walk forward too. Throw him a Stun Seed so this way he will stay stunned while you boost up your status with Violent Seeds or any other status raising.
Get into position and make sure you have your partner tactics set to 'Go after Foes'. Then throw a Sleep Seed at Primal Dialga to get him sleeping when you attack. Start trowing some strong attack at him and if he wakes up, just throw another Sleep Seed. Keep doing this until he is defeated.
This should help a bit. Just hope he won't use 'Roar of Time'

Team Charm Episode:
Have Lopunny learn Agility at Lv. 33. When facing Aggron and his minions, switch your teams tactics with 'Go after Foes'.
Then use Agility, make a move, use Agility again, make a move, Agility again, and make your last move. This helps your team mates as well.

Congrats on the Vaporeon, Silverninetails. Was thinking of recruiting it/Eevee, but haven't been successful yet... Eeveelutions are pretty difficult to recruit!

;300; - 50

;178; - 52
;149; - 55
;195; - 45

Charmander, Quagsire, and Dragonite cover all types with Flamethrower, Dragon Claw, Rock Slide, Brick Break, Ice Beam, Thunderbolt, ect. Separate typing allows me to choose each as the situation demands, Xatu rapes Monster Houses, Skitty heal bells party, Bellossom handles Monster House with Sleep Powder/Sweet Scent [the latter combos very well with Xatu's inaccurate Ominous Wind!], and can heal party with Moonlight. Bellossom is one of the most amazing Team Leaders you can get your hands on in this game.

I think that if I were to stick with just four, I'd go with Charmander/Skitty/Xatu/Bellossom.

I'm also raising a Feebas on the side. Heheh.

Recently I've been hanging around Zero Isle East wearing the amazing X-Ray Specs, in order to hunt out vitamin items and Sitrus Berries, because I always get knocked out quickly in harder dungeons.

Example being Mt. Avalanche... I can't beat that place if my life depended on it. That is an excellent team. Though, I don't really use heal bell all that much with my team. Empoleon, my team leader, is a stat supporter. With the combination of swords dance, agility, and roost, it makes the rest of my team a great sweeping combo. With Froslass Ominous wind, though inaccurate, the help with agility gives Froslass enough time to land at least 2 ominous wind hits in a row. Froslass is great with monster houses thanks to Confuse Ray. Half a monster house can be confused Lucario is just a basic clean sweeper with amazing type coverage moves-wise, as is Salamence. Dragonite would have been a better choice if Lucario was not in the mix. Salamence over all stats average make him a sturdy and brutal sweeper. Salamence cover for Lucario since Lucario's iq stats can lower both his def. and sp. def. Salamence can be hit as many times as it needs to be hit because of the help of 230 HP (thanks to sitrus berries and life seeds) and the access to Roost. Salamence is basically indistructable. So yeah, that's basically the summary of my team.

=D A Bagon with the Egg Moves Hydro Pump and Thrash hatched from an Egg I got at Spinda's Cafe!! *dances*

As far as my search for ledendary Pokemon: I've recruited Entei, but Kyogre still refuses to join my team. I've gone down to the Bottomless Sea several times, holding the Aqua Monica, and after the battle, no luck.
It's sort of a let-down. 50 floors of Monster-House crammed dungeon and no legendary recruit at the end!

Also, does anyone know where Lugia and Ho-Oh are at? Do they still wander in the same places as Time/Darkness, or have they moved?

Still working on climbing Temporal Spire. I almost beat Aggron and its Lairon in the special episode, and I think I know how I can finally accomplish that.

I just ordered it on amazon today along with the guide for platinum which is a birthday present for my best friend, I got the game at gamestop for her also today but they didn't have the guide. I was almost not going to get explorer's of sky because it seems so similar to time andI have that version but it also seems like there are a lot of differences to.

@BlueMew7:

Thank you so much! I do have the Secret Slab, so I will be scouting for Ho-Oh, along with the other Wandering Legendaries that I'm currently missing.
Congrats on beating Destiny Tower! =D

@ Armored Zangoose:

I believe after Hyper Rank, there is Master *, Master **, Master ***, and finally Guildmaster Rank.
Don't forget about Secret Rank too! (Which I think you must acquire after the main plotline to reach Guildmaster Rank.)
