ADDED IN: Ask for advice on nicknames here as well, please!

Ask forI have been looking around the area, and have yet to find a topic about Nicknaming Pokemon, not including "nickname help."
Whenever you catch a Pokemon, you get the chance to nickname your Pokemon. I was wondering if anyone else nicknames their Pokemon, or just chooses not to, and leave it at the Pokedex Name.
I usually choose not to nickname my Pokemon, except when it comes to Unknown, which I name according to their shape; Unknown A, Unknown !, and so on. ;201-z;

I give all my PKMN nicknames.

The ones I intend to trade I give the corniest name I can think of so the tradee will remember it. :D

I usually give the PKMN I intend to use on my team their (Romanized) Japanese name, I think they sound better than the English ones. But that's just me. ;)

I nickname most of my pokemon, sometimes I actually stop playing for half an hour just to make a cool nickname. I mostly use funny names, but lately I'm using "cool Japanese names".
Like I called my infernape Bokito, which is a Gorilla who escaped from the zoo a week before I started pokemon Diamond. But I called my Staraptor TomaHawX in my platinum playthrough.

I've only ever nicknamed 2 pokemon. I named my shadow lugia XD001 just because I thought that name was just awesome, and I used to nickname all my torchics (when I was younger I always picked the fire type, and usually never leveled any other pokemon) Blaze, because there was a rumor that naming it that made it easier to find rare pokemon

I named my Empoleon Pringer X. It's a (epic) reference to Disgaea.
I'm gonna name my Breloom Umbreloom just because.
My Crobat is Necrobat. Necro means death in latin, I think.
I named my pickup pokes Pickup #1 and Pickup #2.

I saw a Metagross named Metal Gear.
You see quite a lot of water pokes named Leviathan.

A shiny Dragonair should be whatever you find suited. Try to choose a nickname that resembles something you like. If you can't choose one, just name it Dragonair.

Can anyone beat Voltemort the ginatina?

I'm gonna stick to my positive nicknames for this one, but I have used these names for my projects.

One is Venacelia (some girl I know wanted me to come up with a creative name for her), and the other is Starplexia (named after one of my original artworks (http://lordscalgon.deviantart.com/art/Starplexia-144495431)). I might use it as nicknames for my Pokemon, but I still have yet to render my decision...

I usually name my pokemon according to their type/nature. :'D

For example, there's Caim, my Umbreon, and Nowe, my Espeon. (anyone who knows where that came from gets a cookie.)

Djordi = Bulbasaur
Svetovid = Totodile
Obskurov = Charmander
Kite = Skitty (though he was traded away)

I have so many others, but I'm too lazy to list them.

I rarely give my Pokémons a nickname. When I do, it´s only for Pokémon I´m planning to use in my teams. Funny thing is, I name them with the english species name of their final evolution, just without using all capital letters. It sounds weird, I know, but I´m playing a german version of Diamond at the moment and I don´t like most of the german Pokémon names.
I also tend to mark my EV trained ones with a symbol after the nickname.

I nickname every single one of my pokemon. Of course, I have some paterns;
I always name my starters after colors (Charizard = Red, Empoleon = Blue, Torrtera = Vert, Chicorita = Olive, Cyndaquil = Ruby, Squirtle = Indigo... the list goes on, and on, and on...). Since G/S, I've always named my Togepi Mini, but I think I might start naming them Chibi, which is Jappenese for Mini. In diamond, I named my Luxray Yang, after my cat, but now I simply name all my Umbreon Yang. Other than that, I either name my pokemon after people they remind me of (Such as my Quagsire and Medicham named after my Mom and Dad), or simple names that suit them (Such as my Drifblim, Float Away, or my Rotom, Raikiri (In case you couldn't tell, he's Spin forme. Raikiri is Thunder Blade in, again, Jappenese).

Once I had my friend evolve it, (Gengar RULES!!!)

Female Lucario - Lucy (because she was a girl and it's a short version x3.)
Male Empoleon - Emperor.
Female Lopunny - CottonTail (I was a fan of Beatrix Potter as a child.)
Female Tyranitar - Terra (Latin for Earth.)
Female Absol - Siren (Sirens warn people of oncoming disasters or a current disaster that is happening. So do Absol.)
Male Jolteon - Shock (Electric things will shock you if you are not careful with them.)
Male Flygon - Apollo (because he lives in a sunny dessert, and his wings sound musical when they flap.)
Female Vaporeon - Waves (just Waves.)
Gallade - Susceptor (Latin for Guardian.)
Female Meowth - Surripio (it means 'to pilfer' in Latin. And Meowths are known to Pilfer money by night, when she evolves, I'll think of another name.)
Male Meganium - Bliss (because I like that feeling and I like Meganium.)
Female Gible - Inculta (Latin for desert.)
Female Kangaskhan - Matron (because of Motherly instinct is connected to that.)
Male Glaceon - Algeo (Latin for 'to be cold')
Male Flareon - Valor (Fire God.)
Female Umbreon - Lunar (means moon)
Male Espeon - Solar (means the sun.)
Male Leafeon - Syn (As in Photosynthesis.)
Female Dragonair - Haruka (Japanese for 'far away' as it's very hard to see a Dratini/Dragonair up close.)
Female Aerodactyl - Fumi (Japanese for 'History.' As we all know, we can Aerodactyl in the games by reviving them from fossils.)
Female Lapras - Mizuko (Japanese for 'Water Child.' As I raised this Lapras from an egg, I found it fitting)
Female Manectric - Procella (Latin for 'Tempest or Storm.' I imagine Manectric like that.)

I think my Remoraid's nickname is perfect for it. I call it Aaroniero because to me, Remoraid represents Aaroniero's Kaien disguise, while Octillery is the perfect embodiment of his Resurreccion. I also named my Kingler Barragan. Crown-like horns, oversized weapon, and "King" in the name - I mean, do the math!

Of course, not everyone is as much of a Bleachtard as I am.

I have so much fun thinking up nicknames.

In my first Platinum run through I got two words from their PokeDex entries and put them together. Eg. Tropius=Fruiteat

Then in my second Platinum run through their nicknames were based off of karate moves such as Gaidan and Burai.

Then in my third and current Platinum run through they have all been nicknamed after a word or similar word from their PokeDex entries with a gender specific title based off their gender. Eg. Turtwig=Sir Twigs, Rampardos=Mr. Bash, Gengar=Ms. Spite, Gliscor=Ms. Barb

Weatherman- Castform
What do you know--I have a Castform named Weatherman as well!

I nickname all my Pokemon, of course. I've done themed nicknames for some of my Pokemon, but the rest I just pick whatever name is appropriate or sounds cool. I have a few current nickname themes I kind of strive for:

(if there are commas separating nicknames, that means I have multiple Pokemon of that species with those nicknames)

The Harry Potter Theme
Alakazam - Hermione (appropriate, since both are really smart)
Buizel - Ron
Sneasel - Fred, George, Percy
Floatzel - Ginny (I'm nicknaming the weasel Pokemon after the Weasleys!)
Noctowl - Hedwig
Uxie - Dumbledore
Azelf - Dobby
Purugly - Minerva
Absol - Remus, Sirius (Sirius has a Serious nature! Was going to give that name to a Mightyena, but all my Mightyenas are female...)
Gastrodon - Slughorn (which literally makes sense as well)
Linoone - Hufflepuff (whose symbol is a badger, which Linoone looks like)
Seviper - Slytherin, Nagini
Exploud - Muffliato
Spinda - Confundus
Kecleon - Nymphadora (who can change her appearance at will, kind of how Kecleon can)
Heracross - Skeeter (who can transform into a beetle)
Vileplume - Fleur (also is French for flower)
Ariados - Aragog
Ho-oh - Fawkes
Duskull - Mad-Eye
Banette - Lucius, Karkaroff, Severus
Gible - Draco
Toxicroak - Bellatrix
Misdreavus - Voldemort

The Lord of the Rings theme
Garchomp - Moria
Registeel - Mithril
Giratina - Sauron
Mewtwo - Saruman
Dialga - Theoden
Uxie - Gandalf
Mesprit - Arwen
Azelf - Aragorn
Sableye - Gollum, Smeagol (thankfully they're not in the same game!)
Cresselia - Galadriel
Heatran - Balrog
Grovyle - Legolas (might rename him to Elrond upon evolution)
Dugtrio - Gimli (who likes caves)
Spinarak - Shelob (will be more appropriate once she evolves)
Torterra - Bombadil (too bad the Gold Berry doesn't exist in gen 4)

The Pokemon Trainer theme
Wobbuffet - Jessie
Chimecho - James
Cacturne - Harley
Dragonite - Lance
Beautifly - May
Torchic - Flannery
Kadabra - Sabrina
Venomoth - Koga
Pikachu - Satoshi (Ash's Japanese name)
Raichu - Lt. Surge
Masquerain - Drew
Kingdra - Misty (could have named her Clair, but that name was taken by my Xatu for different reasons)
Geodude - Roxanne
Wormadam Steel - Jasmine
Spiritomb - Agatha
Meganium - Erika

Miscellaneous Nicknames
Gallade - MetaKnight, Arthur (might rename the second to Lancelot)
Gardevoir - Guinevere (she and Arthur were hatched at the same time)
Piplup - Dedede (will be more appropriate once he evolves)
Arcanine - Lassie, Rigel
Ditto - Nympho (because I use it mainly for breeding)
Palkia - SuperDildo
Rotom - Robomaster
Metang - Ferrum (Latin for iron)
Delibird - Mrs. Claus, Santa

Electrode - Pokeball
Magnezone - UFO
Espeon - Akamaru

I give all of mine names. Sometimes I use names that symbolize something about them, but other times I like to use a play-on words.

The stupidest names I ever came up with is an inside joke w/ a friend of mine. We have a theme for our eevees:

Eevee: Eeep
Vaporeon: Veep
Jolteon: Jeep
Flareon: Feep
Espeon: Peep (b/c Eevee already took Eeep)
Umbreon: Beep (b/c its Japanese name starts w/ a B)
Leafeon: Leep
Glaceon: Geep

I nickname the Pokemon that I will potentially be using for my team.

In Diamond:
CHAR Infernape
AQUOS Gastrodon (male--would've been Aqua or Aquas if it was a girl)
RYO Lucario
DRAKE Garchomp (which is misleading because it's a female)
ROSE Roserade
SKAR Skarmory

Though they're generic (minus Gastrodon's--oddly, I'm most attached to Gastrodon out of all of those Pokemon). The rest of my team were traded and have their original names.

Which is why I make it a point to make my Pokemon's nicknames in ALL CAPS. It blends in better with other members of the team.

27th January 2010, 2:54 AM
^ How about Hanumon for your Ambipom? It's the name of a Hindu god, who is the god of wind or something, but he apparently led an army of monkeys to fight a demon king. 8D He was apparently one of their most powerful and intelligent deities.

I nickname all my Pokemon that I plan to keep or actually train. I don't nickname Pokemon I catch only to unlock something in the game or if I'm using them to trade. I sometimes have a theme, but when I have a looooot of Pokemon, as I do in Pearl, I just give each Pokemon a name that I feel suits it individually.

I nicknamed my Palkia, Tardis. (A Doctor Who referance, since the tardis travels in space and palkia keeps space stable)

Does anybody have a good nickname for a Uxie?

Pucca_ness
27th January 2010, 9:05 PM
^Well... Dr Who is probably better known for time travel but he basically does the whole space travel aswell :P It's still a good name.

Call Uxie Tails... only if the other two are named Sonic and Knuckles though. how about a name meaning sleep or something to do with what happens when it's eyes open? Think about the legend surrounding it or something.

Or Marzipan... call it that.

I rarely name my pokemon. I've named my entire first ev trained team:

Typhlosion - Bakutarou - Got it from the pokemon manga i've read online
Espeon - Nekomata - Some sort of lucky cat i beleive?
Tyranitar - Gojira - Does it need explanation?
Houndoom - Cerberus - Ok so it doesn't have three heads but it looks like a hell hound anyway.
Kingdra - Shenlong - Mythical "Spirit dragon" thought to have controlled wind and rain... mines has rain dance so makes sense!
Crobat - Taborc - Well... use a mirror! Read it backwards!

Also my Starter Empoleon is called Zabulon as a Night Watch reference and i have an Electabuzz called Gesar, also a Night Watch (and Day Watch) referance.

I also named my Sneasel purely because i was so pleased with her ability to steal awesome items from pokemon so i called her Matilda... don't know why but it's a good movie anyway!

I also have a Blastoise from Leaf Green called Galapagos. Fitting name i feel.

I also named some of my shinies:

Lopunny - Pinky - yes really original... my first shiny ok i was excited!
Magikarp - Rincewind - Most useless shiny i have due to it's nature and ivs and the fact i can get it's evolution in HG/SS. Rincewind is the most useless wizard in Terry Pratchett's discworld stories.
Ampharos - Denryu - I beleive it's japanese name? Sounds nice and i occasionally say "Denny" or "Denny-roo" outloud when using him :P
Slowbro - Florence - Well i like Florence and the Machine and it's a female Slowbrow and it is a really odd and daft name to go with such a funny looking thing.
Togetic - Pie - Cute name for a cute pokemon =P
Shinx - Flash the male from Flash Gordon and Amber the female as she is a nice bright warm yellow.
Tyranitar - Shichi - I looked this up apparently means "seven" or "seventh" This Tyranitar was the 7th one in a chain.

I try to go for names derived from mythology especially Japanese, Chinese and Norse mythology however it's difficult to match the names to the right pokemon. Also some names from the Final Fantasy series or latin names work well

I'm thinking of naming my shiny charizard Tyr Norse god of War if i remember right. Or Tiamat... it's a cool sounding name of something from Final Fantasy. I also need a name for my shiny Beldum soon to be Metagross.

I just remembered i had really lame names for my third gen pokes as i used to name quite alot.

Bodom the Blaziken named after the band Children of Bodom
Jezebel the Girafarig although that's the coolest name ever.
Metallica the Beldum... it's metal...
Iron Maiden the Lairon... it's metal...
Link the Ludicolo from Zelda haha
Cloud the Altaria... yes
Dahlia the Grumpig - named after the band The Black Dahlia Murder.
I'm sure i had a minun called Megadeth and a plusle called AC/DC. Now i don't particularly like Plusle or Minun and so since i hate megadeth it works out... but i like AC/DC so that argument fails.

Oh and a manectric called Thunder. At least that one stays away from band names... oh god what was i thinking? Stupid band names geeze how effing lame is that. -_-

Aphrodite - Milotic (Goddess of love)

Ares - Gallade (God of war)

Cresselia - Izanami (Japanese moon goddess)

I hate saying it, but Izanami is one of the creation dieties in Japanese lore. Wierder still that she dies, but I've seen a Native American story very similar to the story of Izanagi & Izanami. Tsukiyomi, the moon goddess, was born from Izanami's left eye after she died giving birth to Kagatsuchi, the fire god.

Also, I have a female Tyranitar that's nicknamed Jezebel, but I think it could be better? Any suggestions?

I nicknamed my Palkia, Tardis. (A Doctor Who referance, since the tardis travels in space and palkia keeps space stable)

Does anybody have a good nickname for a Uxie?

Heh. I did the same thing with my Palkia in Pearl. But in Platinum, I named my Dialga and Palkia Hawking and Hartle, after the physicists.

Even better, I caught Dialga in a Timer Ball, so when it appears, that ticking clock appears. Palkia's in a Dusk Ball, so you get the dark void-like cloud.

I don't nickname in Diamond, and all I can remember from Pearl is Sturnus (Genus of the starling) the Starly. In Platinum, however...

Torterra: Chelon, after Chelonia, the genus/order/something of turtles and tortoises.
Golduck: Sally. Yeah... I was feeling lazy and never bothered to rename it. But hey, at least it is a girl.
Gallade: Masaharu. Sounds properly Japanese for a warrior such as him.
Mamoswine: Pancetta, as in pancetta ham. One of my stranger names.
Giratina: Zhao Long. Long is Chinese for dragon, and Zhao just makes it sound cooler.
Rotom: Blitz, I think. The only pokemon on my Platinum not on my battling team that I bothered to nickname. Not sure why.

Empoleon - Empresseon (female Empoleon)
Tropius - Delicio (tasty fruit)
Luxray - Rekka (personal, inside joke with bf)
Gardevoir - Blossom (sakura blossom)

Here are some of the more interesting names I've came up with:

Oddish - Dishy (lol)

Dugtrio - Trinity (three)
Tentacruel - Feeshee (only word I caught of its dex entry was "fish")
Weezing - Garbarrage (garbage and barrage combo)
Jynx - Hexiss (hex and kiss combo)
Flareon - Nawty (all I remember of Stadium is Flareon wiggling its bum XD)
Mareep - Eep (lol)
Sudowoodo - Woodosudo (made sense to me at the time)
Wooper - Supa Upa (was listing to ABBA at the time lol)
Girafarig - Farigiraf (corruption of original name)
Silcoon - Silasilasi (don't ask)
Cascoon - Casacasaca (again, don't ask)
Lotad - Atadlo (adorable)
Sableye - Ge'mar'kii (wanted a weird name with apostrophes)
Numel - Lemun (cos of its colour and, you know, Numel backwards)
Bidoof - Doofbi (so cute)
Shellos Pink - Peanut (wait for it...)
Gastrodon Pink - Butter (wait for it...)
Shellos Blue - And (wait for it...)
Gastrodon Blue - Jelleh (lol)
Leafeon - Synthetica (sounds organic)
Glaceon - Diadustica (similar ot Leafeon's name)
Porygon-Z - Origami (the folding Pokémon)
Rotom Wash - Rotowash (we use one at work to wash carpets)
Rotom Cut - Rotomotor (the motor inside the lawnmower)

Beyond that, I got nothing ^.^ I always name my Unown as Annon plus whatever letter they are (so, Unown in shape of A is named Annon A).

Anyone have advice for a male Jolteon nickname?
I tried Zeus, but it seems unoriginal.
I also tried Rayo (Rai-Oh), which means lightning in Spanish. I think this one is OK, but I'm not really sure.
I don't use themes in my nicknames and I don't like names that are hard to really hard to pronounce.

I recently caught a Male lv 18 Pikachu in the Pokemon Mansion's Garden.
Now nicknames normally aren't my bag, but I nicknamed him "Lucky"
for two simple reasons.

#1 He was Adamant Natured, which is kinda cool,

and the main reason,

#2 is because he was Holding a Light Ball!!!

I tried to find a Pikachu with a light ball
in the third Gen, and failed.
He is my first Pikachu I have captured
that was found to be holding the said item.
I'm training him up, he is about lv 23/24 now.
The Light Ball is NFT!

can any one give me a nick-name for a tropius?
i cant think of one just yet

Sweet Pinpuku
11th February 2010, 12:20 PM
TROPIUS
Tropius is primarily rooted in ancient creatures (sauropods) and legends (Mokele mbembe), as well as things plants do (phototropism and geotropism) so I've primarily based my nickname suggestions of the base fundamentals of its conecption and design:
Tropisuaro - coming from Tropius and Sauropod.
Sauropius - coming from Sauropod and Tropius.
Photropis - Phototropism corruption.
Geotrpois - Geotropism corruption.
Banana - due to its Banana necklace.
Mokele - coming from the Mokele mbembe legend.
Mbembe - coming from the Mokele mbembe lengend.
Delicio - the nickname I gave my Tropius (you're welcome to it) x

JOLTEON
Jolteon I feel is very difficult to nickname. I've tried to remain very general with my suggestions because, personally, I'd base it's nickname on what its essential counterparts (Vaporeon and Flareon) are named. However, here are my suggestions:
Jolt - short version of its current name.
Thorn - due to its appearance.
Thunders - Japanese name.
Lightning - Jolteon's species.
Needles - due to its appearance.
Muud - stores electricity based on mood.
Blitza - Jolteon's German name.
Voltali - Jolteon's French name.
Jyupis - first half of Jolteon's Korean name.
Seorida - second half of Jolteon's Korean name.
Revolteon - the nickname I gave my Jolteon (you're welcome to it) x

I hope these are helpful to you both in some way, even if they inspire you in some fashion ^.^ good luck x

I name all of mine =3. For the Unknown's its usually the letter ('N' the UnknownN) or a word that begins with the letter (Lips the UnknownL X3). For the rest it's either a favorite character from an Anime/Manga/Game/Movie/Cartoon/ect. or a foreign word.

Shino (Grovyle M, From Naruto, SS Team)
Denji (Luxray, based on Volkner's Japanese name, SS Team)
Subakurei (Flygon F, Subaku means desert and Rei means spirit)
Prowl (Darkrai, Prowl is my favorite Transformer(He's the Shadows of Almia Darkrai by the way, I dont use AR))
Jazz (Mewtwo, other favorite Transformer)
Escrime (Gallade M(dun X3), French for 'fencing')
Riktor (Blaziken M, I just like the name X3)
Prussia (Tyranitar M, based on the Awesome Gilbert from Hetalia, SS Team)
Hiroshi (Feraligatr M, My baby. His name is a running gag between me and my friends, who have a Typhlosion called Uzushi and a Meganium called Hanashi. we all have one of each bred from the others starters =3. SS Team)
Jerome (Slowking M, I took the name from Ginga Densetsu Weed~)
Mafia (Honchkrow M, from his looks and the fact that a I was watching a Hetalia epsiode and Romano mentioned his Mafia X33, SS Team)
Mamoru (Lugia, means guardian)
Torigami (Ho-oh, tori means bird, Gami means God)
Sorahi (Moltres, Sora = sky, Gami = God)
Higami (Entei, Hi = Fire/Day/Sun, Gami = God)
Raigami (Raikou, Rai = lightning, Gami = God)
Sorarai (Zapdos, Sora = Sky, Rai = lightning)
Kamigami ((Kaga)Arceus, Kami = God, Gami also = God X3. Kaga is also an event Arceus~)

Suigami (Suicune, Sui = water, Gami = God)
Hyourinmaru (Rayquaza, after Hitsugaya Toshiro's sword in Bleach)

For a Tropius I'd prob'ly use Konotobi (Ko No = Leaf, Tobi as in Tobimasu which means 'to fly', I think) or Bananarama if I was in a funny mood ^^

What do you guys suggest as a name for the Eeveelutions? I'm calling my Umbreon Shadra and I already have his mother, Ryuukiko (Flareon, named so for the h*ll of it~)

Here are the nicknames I gave to my SS team:

Typhlosion - Burninator (just so you know, I don't watch StrongBad; I just thought this sounded cool).
Victreebell - Vince. Why? I don't really know...
Quagsire - Marshall. Obvious origin is obvious.
Gengar - Kagemaru. Japanese for little shadow.
Scizor - Falcis. Latin for scythe.
Ursaring - Bart. Named after Bartholomew Kuma from One Piece.

And my Platinum team:

Torterra - Konoha. Japanese for leaf.
Blaziken - Sanji. Another one from One Piece.
Gallade - Zoro. See Sanji.
Vaporeon - Valerie. No particular reason. I just needed a feminine name that fitted.
Altaria - Cirrus. Meteorological term for a thin, wispy cloud.
Magnezone - Eustass. From Courage the Cowardly Dog.....jokes! It's another from One Piece.

Some of my faves from my current Nuzlocke run:
Pidgey: Ratburster (In order to catch him, my Rattatta died in the process)
Pidgey: StuPickles
Oddish: Mark Jane
Geodude: Groundbeef
Lapras: Tree-Fitty
Venonat: My Eyes!!!

I have a shiny Charizard and Metagross that need nicknames. I was thinking Tiamat or Yiazmat for Charizard and i like names that have a bit of legend or meaning relating to the species but still sound like names.

Can anyone help here?

^^ Haha i love the Lapras and Pidgey names =P Tree-fitty priceless!

When I played through SoulSilver with the Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile lines these were their nicknames:

Cyndaquil: Alpha
Squirtle: Omega
Bulbasaur: Gamma
Chikorita: Sigma
Charmander: Delta
Totodile: ???

It was fun giving them nicknames that were letters of the Greek Alphabet. When I do a re-run through of a Pokémon game I like to give all my Pokémon nicknames that have a common theme.

Tiamat only works if it is Female, Marduk would be better for a Male. Fafnir might be another good name for Charizard. For Metagross, perhaps the name Sraosha would work.

I also gave my shiny Eevee and Eeveelutions the names from the greek alphabet bar umbreon who i got in trade.

Eevee - Alpha
Vaporeon - Beta
Jolteon - Gamma
Flareon - Delta
Espeon - Epsilon
Leafeon - Eta
Glaceon - Theta

They're all in order bar Zeta which is what i call my Umbreon even though i cannot change the nickname.

I recenly nicknamed my shiny Absol Katastropha which is Russion for Catastrophy or something similar =]

My shiny Arcanine is called Fenrir after Norse mythology.

So yeah usually i'm ok with names. Oh i also want to mention Zabulon and Gesar.
Two characters from Night watch and Day watch and names for my Emploeon (Zabulon) and Electabuzz (Gesar) from my Platinum.

I have some other names even though i'm not really a nickname person.

You know i had edited my post with my entire log of nicknames HOWEVER because i'm on facebook and using the chat function is messes with this window and the back button goes from deleting exsisting letter to being the damn window back button and sent be back a page. <_< Why can't it just not affect this page atall!!?!

So i cannot be bothered doing it again in case it happens again.

EDIT:

Tiamat only works if it is Female, Marduk would be better for a Male. Fafnir might be another good name for Charizard. For Metagross, perhaps the name Sraosha would work
Thankyou for those they're quite nice. I didn't know about the female thing and Marduk sounds cool. I will look Sraosha up to see what it is =] x

I name nearly all of the pokémon I catch, exeptions obviously being the ones I got from my mom, which plays Pokémon, too. Since I don't have any of my games at the moment, these are the ones I can name:

Shedinja: Dethskiss (Shorter/Name-ified version of death's kiss.)

Brozong: Dethbell (I knoow it's suppoused to be a bell that brings rain or somethin' but I wanted to have a pokémon related to Dethskiss. XD Like above, it's a version of death bell)

Skarmory: Argenterie (French for silverware)

Aggron: Argent (French for silver/money/rock/whatevergoogletranslatesays, suppoused to be teamed up with Argenterie for the heck of it.)

Gallade: Footloose (Yep, the movie and the music. I thought it would fit good with his ability's name Steadfast.)

Absol: Tod (Intended to be an acronym for the song Time Of Dying by Three Days Grace, but apparently it's death in german. Yippee!)

Arceus: Apathy (For their song Personal Jesus)

Arceus: Frontline (It's a song by Pillar. And yes, I have two arceuses for some reason.)

Staraptor: Darzzkemy (Actually has one z on top of the other, can't find the symbol for that. Either way, it sounds cool. Apparently, when his name is put as Dar z z k emy, it translates to "A gift from the Emmy" in Czech. lolwut. I'm just gonna see emmy as Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety, Music, or Comedy Series.)

Aaaand that's all I can think of. Some of mine are named after Yu-Gi-Oh! characters, but then that's a long list.

I loooove thinking of nicknames.

I had a Gengar named Booligan once. That was one of my favorites.

Right now I've got:
Arcnivore - my dyslexic Arcanine
Pslyfox - Espeon
Jim (formerly Jimkrow) -Honchkrow
Beetljuice - Heracross
Blitzkrieg - Luxray
Dragqueen- Female Dragonite.

Though, I may be getting rid of Blitzkrieg when I get Tyranitar. Who will probably be named The Saurus, after my old one, though I considered Trannytar, to go with Dragqueen because obviously I'm hilarious.

As a sidenote, I had a pidgeot named Luftwaffe but I got rid of him. And a Glaceon named Pneumonia.

Previously I commented on how I made a theme of nicknaming my Pokémon of the letters of the Greek alphabet.

Well on HeartGold I've come up with another one. My character is the girl named Autumn. Silver's name is Winton and my Pokémon so far have the nicknames:

Swing the Bellsprout
Fall the Zubat
Snowy the Drowzee
Summer the Vulpix

The inspiration just came to me, I'm really hoping I can get a good one for Black and White.

I usually name my pokes with some relevance to the pokes, or at least their names.
For example, in my latest playthrough of platinum, I had a Gible named pedigree. the reasoning behind this is gible sounds like kible, dog food basically, and Pedigree is a company that makes dog food.
I also have a Serperior named Grassilisk(Somewhat creative on my part)
But the cream of the crop for me was my nicknames for Dialga, Palkia, And Giratina. Dialga's being TimeReach, Palkia's being SpaceGrasp, and Giratina being DeathStorm.
I also have a Hydreigon named R.E.U.D.(A cookie to anyone who knows what that abreviates)

I normally nickname my Pokemon (unless I'm doing a mono-Pokemon challenge or catching useless Pokemon to trade with my friend).
Pokemon that I want to use for a team, such as my starter, I'll put a lot of thought into their nickname, where as other Pokemon tend to be nicknamed after, say, what's on tv at the time or something (so, while watching a cooking show I end up with Pokemon named Chicken, Pork, Cayenne, etc).
As I am often half-watching tv while I'm playing Pokemon or half-asleep, then I'll normally combine words I hear around me, or make something up.
I pretty much play with words, really.

Empolean (Cassie)
Gardevoir (Amy Janet aka AJ)
Lopunny (Evie pronounced Eh-vee)
Masquerain (Lily)
Quagsire (Emma)
Staraptor (Raina)

I pretty much gave them simple names that I thought sounded lady like and matched their personalities Since I wanted an all girl team (Since most of the guys back when I started playing said girls were weak I set out to show them who was boss)

I have never nicknamed a Pokemon...until Black 2. I don't know why I all of a sudden decided to give them unique names (maybe I just decided to be more fun?). But I only name the Pokemon I use in battle, all the others stay the same.
These are the Pokemon I use and their nicknames:

Blaziken - Blaze
Nidoking - Nicholai
Zoroark - Loki
Dragonite - Nyx
Infernape - Zuko
Lucario - Anubis
Houndoom - Dante
Carracosta - Leonardo
Rapidash - Ashes (Shiny Rapidash with grey flame)
Pidgeot - Maverick (Whenever I train him I play Highway to the Dangerzone :P)
Charizard - Shadow (He's a shiny black one)
Gyarados - Red (He's a shiny red Gyarados. Yeah I know, not very creative)
Cobalion - Porthos
Terrakion - Athos
Virizion - Aramis
Keldeo - D'Artagnan (Yes this Keldeo is hacked, and no I never use it for online battling. I do have a legit Keldeo, in resolute form, but I hacked a second one just to be able to give it this nickname :P)

For my Pearl Nuzlocke I'm basing the names on the catch locations. For a named area, the Pokemon name just starts with the same letter or two, eg "Orion" for a Geodude caught in the Oreburgh mines or "Victor" for the starter met at Lake Verity. For a numbered route, the Pokemon name starts with the symbol of the chemical element with atomic number = route number minus 200. Either way, I'm using names that are normal(ish) for people.

Lo and behold...my team from Black 2.

Serperior: Severus (Named him after Severus Snape from Harry Potter. When he was a Snivy his name was Leaf but after he evolved into a Serperior I changed his name. The way Serperior looks with its head held high deserves a name that sounds grim and serious.)

Lucario: Riley (If my Lucario had been female her name would have been Udine but since I was stuck with a male I named him Riley after the trainer in pokemon Platinum/Pearl/Diamond. I know that sounds lame but there's something about the name Riley that fits Lucario)

Swanna: Francis (Meh. Since my Swanna has a vain nature I named him Francis...I know that sounds weak but the name sounds fancy enough.)

Arcanine: Aries (The trump card in my team and I was more then happy to name him Aries after the God of War. I could have named him Mars but Aries was more fitting)

Chandelure: Violet (I wasn't really keen on naming her Beatrice...so I just lumped her with Violet.)

Beartic: Conan (No comment)

My favorite nickname is Teriyaki for Terrakion, I put that on my Terrakion for VGC and someone else had the same nickname on theirs in a battle, but mine was mispelt.

I RARELY nickname. Once, I was in the Bug-Catching contest, and I caught a Scyther. I thought I would win, but I lost to a Weedle. A WEEDLE. I nicknamed the Scyther 'Loser'.

Monsterio the male Bastiodon
Icicle the female Empoleon

I can't think of all the nicknames off the top of my head, but...

Infernape - Sparks
Luxray - Flash
Gyarados - Fin (was being sarcastic at the time, can't be bothered to change it)
Bibarel - Sawtooth (it's a beaver. the name fits)
Scyther - Katana
Bellsprout - Creeper
Aerodactyl - Fang
Giratina - Darkstar
Dialga - Timelord
Palkia - Silver
Drifloon - Spiritsong
Finneon - Flutter
Garchomp - Snapjaw
female Gible - Lockjaw
Vulpix - Fireheart
Dodrio - Bolt
Regigigas - Titan, Rex (meaning "king"), or Maximus

Et cetera...

I have a shiny Floatzel named "Sparkle". It's a male, too

I like to nickname my pokemon because it makes them unique.

Typhlosion: DemoneX (I thought it was cool)
Togekiss: Sozouryoku (Souzouryoku in Japanese means creativity, but I took out an "o" to fit it)
Vaporeon: Taki (Waterfall in Japanese)
Gengar: Nightmare (I would have named it something else but I was too lazy at the time)
Smeargle: Smudge (It paints and I think it's really cute)
Gyarados: Chaos (It's a Gyarados!)
Gyarados: Tsunamir (Like tsunami)
Pikachu: Sugar (After a Pikachu in one episode I saw)
Hitmonchan: MachyMachy (After the move mach punch)
Charizard: Blazeblade (Firebreather with razor sharp wings)
Dragonite: Draykon (A dragonish name)
Umbreon: Tsubasa (After Tsubasa in Gakuen Alice, who can control people through shadows)
Meganium: Charly (I didn't like Charlie and so replaced "ie" with "y" and it stuck)
Pidgeot: Skylera (Flying type taking to the skies)
Mamoswine: Baromir (It sounds strong)
Espeon: Rukaan (I honestly don't know)

Those are all I can think of off the top of my head. I don't name legendaries.

I've been nicknaming my starters since the first game I played (White), but I don't normally nickname other ones.

I believe during my play of Platnium only my Piplup had been named... I named it Pip.

I don't nickname my Pokémon a lot, unless I do a wi-fi battle with a friend or something. :b

Otherwise, I'd just call them by their original names.

Well i dont usually name my pokemon but i used to have a Infernape called Blaze in diamond and a feraligatr when i first played soul silver called Bonnie after my guinea pig that pasted away though feraligatr was a boy LOL... i usually name random pokemon i catch that are not used in my team names.

Any regular pokemon I catch I just name after whatever comes into my head at the time;
Chimmy (Infernape)
Trust (Scizor)
Lollipop (Ambipom)
Spitfire (Blaziken)
Skipper (Swampert)
Umi (Uxie)
Zeta (Azelf)
Draco (Charizard)
Valkyrie (Shiny Staraptor)
Fang (Gligar)
Replay (Pikachu)

However, starting with the last two shines I caught, I've started naming them after the songs I was listening to when I caught them:
Trooper (Shiny Magneton) - (Shadow the Hedgehog, Above the storm, Sky Troops remix (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q16oPeWW2ms))
Love (Shiny Luxray) - (Radar Love, Golden Earring)

I plan to continue the theme as I catch more.

I don't nickname much but mine that I have come up with usually have to do with the original name, or just random:
Mismagius: Maggie
Giratina: Mr. G (this isn't really like I meant but the name came out of nowhere in my mind and I liked it so..)
Drifblim: Drifline (Randomly made up)
Dusknoir: Donnie
Gengar: Genny (Heh)
Electabuzz: Elliott
Blaziken: Buddy (mostly because I thought of him like a partner pokemon)

Nicknaming can be fun ^.^

I have ALWAYS, from the very beginning of my Pokémon player career, nicknamed my Pokémon. That way they feel more unique and special and it's much harder release them or something like that when they have nicknames. I also like to come up with all kind of new nicknames though I usually end up using something very, VERY obvious like giving name Luca to Lucario or Wingy to bird Pokémon or Dragon to Dragon Pokémon...

For example, my team in SoulSilver (while playing adventure trough) included these Pokémon:
Serena, female Feraligatr (Serena is a big spa/water park in Finland)
Clover, female Ampharos
Flower, female Vileplume
Sergei, male Ninetales (you can't even imagine the epicness of this name: "SERGEI used FLAMETHROWER!)
Ruby, male Espeon (first I named him Ivan but changed the name since I already had Sergei)
Drake, male Dragonite (naming him was hard and I tried different names before I named her after Dragon-type using Elite 4 trainer Drake in R/S/E games)

My adventure-trough team in Platinum:
Flare, male Infernape
Usagi, female Clefable (Sailor Moon's name in Japan)
Chen, male Whiscash
Gabby, female Garchomp
Sakura, female Roserade (sakura is cherry blossom in Japanese)
Chi, female Raichu

My current team in Diamond (in which I recently beat Elite 4):
Terra, male Torterra
Ember, female Rapidash
Valentina, female Blissey
Luca, male Lucario
Oscar, male Octillery
Flashy, male Luxray

I used to call everything what I thought they were (Bird 13 was transferred to the PC!). As I thought Bidoof looked like a dog, I eventually had a Bibarel called 'Dog'.

Anyways, in my Youngster Joey Challenge, I have a Rattata called 'Top %', a Piplup called 'Boat', a Starly called 'Airplane' and a Bibarel called 'Slave'.

Oh, and I love giving my Pokémon human names like Alfred.

Heh, my boyfriend also has a Bibarel called Slave since it is his HM Slave and I always object to it :D And I've also had a Pokémon called Boat though it was Lapras. I couldn't change the name anymore since I transferred him from another game so I bred a new Lapras called Lorelei and gave Boat to my boyfriend while trading.

Well, my team in Platinum is:

;392; Zari (F) - Slight corruption of saru, monkey
;409; Roark (M, Shiny) - Shiny Cranidos/Rampardos are grey and red. Guess which redheaded Gym leader also uses one?
;419; Bueal (M) - Cutesy name derived quite simply from Buizel
;430; Duskwing (M) - Dark-type and also a crow, so associated with dusk/nighttime + it's a bird
;432; Velvet (M) - ...No particular reason. Perhaps because his fur would be soft like velvet, maybe?
;470; Rhythm (M) - Named after a Grass-elemental cat character of mine because Leafeon is a Grass-type and very vaguely feline. Plus he'll have Grasswhistle, someday... and said character is a musician. Unfortunately I cannot call this one senpai

Notably, there is also:
;398; Avios (M) - Derived from avian, which Staraptor is.
;405; Shocker (M) - Self-explanatory, yes?
;407; Thorn (F) - Because roses have thorns. This would be that moment where you can feel free to tell me "Duh".
;435; Skunkatsu (M) - Because I watch too much Naruto and the idea of him yelling KATSU when he explodes amuses me...
;487; Distant (-) - Because the realm that Giratina lives in would most certainly be considered distant from the realm that Pokemon takes place in... Yes, let's go with that.
;491; Night (-) - There are just way too many connotations this could have... Pick your favourite. And if you can't think of any, I think you need to go play more Pokemon.
;492; Mask (-) - My staple was usually the delightfully hippie nickname of Wyndflower. And then I ended up making this rather odd Shaymin character who was afraid of flying and wore a "mask of nonchalance" to please his current trainer. Literally, in a sense.

All in all, upon my first playthrough of Platinum... I had a slightly better grasp of nicknaming, so these suck significantly less. I think. Probably not. Oh well...

Also it would seem my snark is showing oops + this post has massive abuse of strikethroughs

;444; Petre

;195; Hydrone

;130; Loch Ness

;229; Wolf Pack

;397; Super Fly

;078; Ryder

;389; Turnip

That's what I've named mine at the moment.

;131; - Aurelius
;142; - Arcturus

;018; - Kratos

(imagine a Druddigon lol) - Exekias

;350; - Asphaeos

Hey there! I have noticed some great nicknames in here XD
I am currently SR'ing a Shiny Froakie in hopes to name it Raizo!
Raizo is the main character from the movie Ninja Assassin. Seeing a Froakie eventually becomes a Greninja, it seemed fitting!
Black ninja frog named Raizo! Seems LEGIT!

On my latest playthrough of Diamond, I've nicknamed all of my Pokémon, mainly due to the fact that Pokémon names being in FULL CAPS bothers me. Of course, I think I need a more fitting name for a Luxray than "Silver". =P
