Does anybody know if Urugamosu(the fire moth/bug) is really only obatinable so late in game, or is there some place you can capture it's pre-evo?

A ranger in a house on route 18 will give you an egg containing Volcarona's

We have the Roggenrola-Geodude parallel to mention one. I wonder of Swoobat will get a third evo in the 6th gen? Any thoughts on this, and other parallels that they might draw?

I'd rather they not draw exact parallels with each and every evolution line as some people are suggesting... There's lots of room for creativity there that doesn't need to be tied down to Unovan/whatever region's versions of X, Y and Z.

I am not saying that everything needs to be parallel. I just think that some things have a strong chance to happen the same way. I think another evolution of Swoobat would be nice. Who knows how far they will take it though.

Xman96

Parrallel is when something mirrors something else if that makes sense. In math it refers to two lines that will never cross.

Squibelala

Yes but what does that have to do with new evolutions...? Like Desukan is parallel to a real sarcophagus?

Xman96

No, I was asking what other people thought of the idea of the 6th gen. being a parallel to the 2nd gen in some ways. Like in the second gen Zubat got a third evolution. Because Woobat is Zubat's parallel, I was thinking that maybe Woobat would get a 3rd evo as well.

Out of the two legendary mascots my favorite is really hard to pin down. Reshiram is so cool being a fire dragon and having a torch for a tail... and it's fluffy. Zekrom is just as cool being an electric dragon with the turbine tail. Zekrom also looks like some dark crusader of the night, but that is just my opinion. I really can't decide...

Also I was wondering, does anyone have any ideas on what Gamefreak may do with Reshiram and Zekrom in context of that legend of the dragon Pokemon that split into two separate beings, one for ideals and the other for truth. Like in the third version will there be a dragon form where the two fuse together and will Kyurem be involved at all.

Hagfish specialty: knots!

Oh, yeah. Beartic's design looks pretty good.
The question if he's good competetive-wise... I guess you'll have to find out yourself, because there are many ways to "use" a Pokémon.
I may try Beartic, but I'm not a fan of it. If I need a good ice type though, I'll give it a shot.

For that Hagfish thing...

You just scared the living daylight out of me!!
Ironically, it's the first time I've actually seen it's actual mouth... but I thought these things didn't have "jaws".

Also, the less you know about how these guys "eat"... the better. I do, and it ain't pleasant.

It looks like the Raddish Spirit from Spirited Away.

I don't know about you... but that one image nearly scared me half to death... it should have either been spoilered, or the image size reduced.

Although, I am discovering different kinds of sea creatures that I thought I already knew of. Kind of weird and cool.

They are cute aren't they. Even the sea pig has a lovable quality to it, especialy its picture of it on its back... if you could call it that... invertebrate and all.
Yeah no. The fact that I was more freaked out by the "updside down" sea pig more than the hagfish pic should tell you something.

Of course, I already knew what a hagfish looked like so the shock factor was reduced.

I'm still trying to figure out how Musharna fits the bill though...

What do you think about that other Dragon-Pokémon, Druddigon? Would you think he'd be an useful addition for a team?

Actually, the funny thing is that lobsters and crayfish are collectively known as dragon shrimp in Chinese so that might make remote sense...I just don't get why a whiscash can learn it...anyways, Druddigon can be pretty nasty especially if you are running a trick room team with dragon tail...you'll always go first no matter what and your opponent would be forced out...

Well we were talking about how it looked like Munna, at least in a very vague way. I still find it to be somewhat adorable though. I'm sorry you didn't like it. Sure I know about some of the negative things involved with these animals, but this doesn't stop me from finding them startlingly beautiful. Emphasis on the "startlingly". Eh, don't fret about it. I'm not saying I don't like it... I'm just saying that it's a tad on the "freaky" side for me. Strange though, I'm both fascinated and deeply disturbed by marine life, and I don't for the life of me know why.

Bizarre, non?

And on the topic of "creatures you find cute, but not others", believe me, I've been there. My younger sister has found certain things "cute" that I had to ask several times to make sure I didn't mishear her.

So, each person is entitled to there preferences, just try to tone it down a bit next time. Not everyone is going to have the same reaction.

Well, I think the low defence stat is the most unfortunate about that thing. Most of its weaknesses have physical attacks (except for some Fire and Steel Attacks).

You have to be very selective in whom you bring out Cryogonal against. Its Special Defense is 135, so it can pretty much take any special attack, even super-effective ones, like it's nothing.

Off (chimecho-)topic.

I haven't heard anyone talking about the Gear-Pokémon? I actually think they're quite cool, because I like Steel Pokémon, but I'm not sure if I should put one of these in my team...

Klink and its evolutions are not really that well-suited for just going through the game. Well, I suppose it is, but you'll really just be working off Gear Saucer alone, or perhaps special attacks like Flash Cannon and Thunderbolt.

Then again, I'm seeing this, and it screams out "crazy learning curve" in figuring out how to make it useful. Of course, I did come up with something.

That Emmett from the Battle Subway uses one means it's got some uses.

All the platinum forms can be used on wi-fi, yes!
Origitina, Skymin, and Rotom-A

Well, only Rotom-A can be used on Random, but friend battles work fine.

Yep, I've been seeing appliance Rotom forms over various Japanese battle videos already.

At least this explains why you don't like the line. I personally rather think lampreys are unusual, and despite having no "jaws" (hence the sucker the creepy looking mouth), I find them pretty cool.

At least Nintendo didn't go for Hagfish... then we'd probably have some nightmare fuel stuff.

/CL

But hagfishes are hilarious, the way they turn your water into jelly and all that!

Also, if anyone's wondering, they purposely tie themselves into knots and let that knot slip down their body to scrape the jelly off of themselves when it thins out.

Oh, yeah. Beartic's design looks pretty good.
The question if he's good competetive-wise... I guess you'll have to find out yourself, because there are many ways to "use" a Pokémon.

Usually, I can tell you some battling environment where a Pokémon is suddenly very useful...but I'm still looking for that in Beartic. I know there's some usefulness in it somewhere, even if only due to Swift Swim (hey, Serperior's Dream World Ability is something people look forward to too), but I'll keep looking.

On another note, at 2.6 meters, or 8' 06", it's the largest non-legendary Ice-type, 4 inches taller than runner-ups Lapras and Mamoswine, and 2 feet and 7 inches taller than ursaring. Beartic is definitely something you don't want to annoy.

You know, I am starting to wonder how far Game Freak will take this parallel thing that they are doing. You know, this being the first region of this country and all. We have the Roggenrola-Geodude parallel to mention one. I wonder of Swoobat will get a third evo in the 6th gen? Any thoughts on this, and other parallels that they might draw?

If the Pokémon is fine the way it is, they won't give it an evolution. If it turns out the Pokémon is deeply insufficient, they'll do it, sooner or later. Maybe. Swoobat is way stronger than Golbat was back in the day, so if they make it evolve into something, the jump in power won't be all that big.

That's...not really true. We've got things like Dusknoir, whose stat ups are really only marginal, Scizor who seems more like an alt evolution for a Syther Pre-evo that never was, Bellossum, Froslass, and so on. It's true they have a tendency to give nice evolutions to those who really needed it (while ignoring other Pokemon screaming for one), but it's really just up to if they want to design them/they have a design in mind.

I was curious about this, so I checked out their stats.
Golbat has higher HP, Attack, Defense, and Special Defense. Also overall higher BST (30 more)
Swoobat's Speed stat is 24 points higher, and Special Attack is 12 points higher

Swoobat also has a better movepool, slightly better typing, better ability and the pain-in-the-neck combo that is Calm mind/Assist Power/Air Slash. Swoobat looks complete enough as it is.

Crobat is better, though, by miles.

I like Hydreigon. The Dark/Dragon typing is pretty awesome, and it has an amazing movepool. I will of course be raising a Haxorus as well.

I myself will be usign a Swoobat in Black version. The decision was made back when they revealed Woobat, in fact. I like how they look.

As for Haxorus vs. Hydreigon, I'm gonna have to say Haxorus. I like it, and it has a monstrous Attack stat.

Liepard has a pretty bad movepool to be honest. Which is a shame really, it was such a good idea. It suffers from the limited moveset syndrome, which many pokemon seem to suffer from this generation.

I love Swoobat. ^_^ (Nothing against Crobat though, I like it too). In fact, Woobat and Swoobat are even more lovable to me since they are based on one of the cutest animals ever in my opinion. The Honduran White Bat. It's tiny! And fluffy! AND HAS AN ITTSY BITTSY LITTLE PIG NOSE!!! ^w^ Seriously, google it if you don't believe me. One of the CUTEST bats ever, and they chose it to make it the replacement Zubat! Yay! =D

Better yet - its ittsy bittsy pig nose is shaped like a heart!! >w< Bats are adorable...I don't know why people find them so gross.

I love the designs and typing of Woobat's line (I just want to grab one and sit in a room with it, hugging it all day. ALL DAY!!!) but sadly their stats are a big lump of suck, so they never made it to my team. Aw, well.

Yeah, Liepard has what I like to call the 'Mightyena Movepool curse'. So many dark types get ripped off. I wish they'd make a dark physical move of 90 or over, for once. C'mon GF, give em a chance.

MagnetonNr1

Ohh - I'd love to see a german Pokémon TV ad. But the only ones are from the TGC...

Quite possibly the only thing that would make Liepard remotely viable in battles is its Dream World ability. (Mischievous Heart).

Other than that, it makes a great substitute if you're sick of seeing abandoned puppies and rabid chipmunks on your first journey.

But still, other than THAT, it sucks.

As if Denchura in itself (design-wise, type-wise, etc.), the nerd inside me screamed when it was revealed its English name was Galvantula. It sounds so scientifically awesome it made my pants wet.

Chandelure is the best enigmatic thing to ever come by my life as a person. Imagine seeing that the next time you try and go outside of your house at night.

My love for Scolipede was so grand, I made an email on Yahoo! in its name. It would be awesome if we can ride pokemon, because riding a Scolipede around town is the sexiest thing ever :))

Oh well, that's what I think. Every thing else is still awesome, but not my typical standards :)

Don't worry about it, you'll be seeing it a lot on tv now(especially on DisneyXD), I saw three different ads about B/W after eachother, wich we're pretty awesome. They explained the new battle styles and said that there will be over 150 new Pokémon to train with.

That's because we don't have a "Dutch version", all text in-game is English. It's quite a good training to learn English. Because I play a lot of games, my English is pretty well^_^

I might just transfer over the special Celebi from the Generation 4 games and use that to get Zorua in Castelia City. I think it's the best option since I don't want to have to wait until I get to Lostlorn Forest in order to get Zoroark from there. Leveling up Zorua shouldn't be too hard either, as I can just leave it at the Day Care Center or use a Lucky Egg so that it gains experience quickly.

Surprisingly enough, even I'd go as far as to say this! And I'm the guy who used to be a huge Lucario fan. I still am, but I'm liking Zoroark more and more these days.

Height, is indicated by "head to toe". Zoroark is definitely about 5 feet that way. The mane it sports gives it more length, making it more likely to be about 7 feet long at least.

Height, is indicated by "head to toe". Zoroark is definitely about 5 feet that way. The mane it sports gives it more length, making it more likely to be about 7 feet long at least.

Wait... are you saying that Zoroark, pictured there, is 5 feet tall? Look at Ash! If Ash was laying there next to Zoroark, he would reach from head to waist, and Ash has to be at least close to 5 feet tall, if not a little taller.

Same what I was thinking. And if you look at the picture again, the length of the mane and the length of Zoroark from head to toe are almost, if not, the same.

Wait a dang minute; the Castelia city Celebi event for Zorua works even before you beat the the main game? Sweet Jesus! Now I need that darn Celebi. Why must my EB Games have these technical difficulties ;_;.

You didn't know that you could get Zorua right away in Castelia City? Well, you can, so long as you've transferred over the Celebi. I'm still trying to decide whether I should use the Zorua or wait for the Zoroark, however. I think Zorua is really cute so evolving it might come back to haunt me. Eh, I'll figure it out eventually. I'm going to breed for some Zorua eggs anyway, so maybe I'll hatch a few dozen and keep them in my PC, in case I want to form a team of Zorua.

I did
It's a 4 foot long snake thingy, whose actual height (if the "size" comparison in the dex is anything to go by) is probably that of a large housecat (maybe bigger? these sillouhetes aren't the best for comparisons)

I'm not saying the anime doesn't have inconsistent sizes but your example is kind of ridiculous and I have no idea why you were being so stingy about the thing. I can only assume you didn't want to believe it was measured by length, not height or something.

Now, a better example would be the depiction of Charizard who seriously did alter in size by a ridiculous degree from episode to episode. Sometimes he towered over the entire cast, other times he was about the size of Ash, other times the size of Brock, sometimes he had a super long neck, sometimes he didn't and so on.

On a totally different subject, I can't get over how much more awesome Krookodile's shiny sprite is than its normal sprite. I almost never ever like shiny sprites over the regular ones, but Krookodile's is just too amazing, and it's the first shiny ever that I really really wanted to get.

That's a little unkind. It doesn't look anything like faeces - it's a beautiful fawn colour with gold bars. It looks very classy...although I do think it's 'crook' demeanour is somewhat dimished, a shame...considering that's the whole 'point' of that pokemon. Without its dark glasses, it loses its street cred.

And yes, whoever said Mienshao needs a bigger movepool, I agree. That pokemon is so lovely...I usually dislike fighting types, but this one is the most elegant bundle of brawn I ever laid eyes on...

Exactly. To me it looks a million times better than that penis-nosed walking ketchup bottle, which still makes my eyes bleed. Beauty is always in the eyes of the beholder and no one can ever argue against it no matter how ugly they think something is.

This is one of the rare cases when I actually do prefer the shiny sprite over the regular ones. The others are Rapidash, Dewgong, Magneton, Rhydon and Steelix. Also Forretress, but I dislike the Pokémon anyway so it doesn't count. Notice how all of them, besides Rapidash, also appear in beautiful shades of gold.

I tend to lean towards the more royal and calm colourings, so imo as a shiny Krookodile becomes a classy villain instead of that petty thug it usually is.

I too absolutely adore Mienshao btw. My favourite Fighting type ever. It's just so calm, collected and elegant that you just have to love it.

I already have the special edtion guide paid off. The second Edition guide is usually a bigger book that has a full national dex. The First book usually just has the regional dex. I'm not sure what the special edtion has, Here is what Amazon says on it.

• A hardcover collectible edition with special removable lenticular cover art!
• Full Walkthrough with Maps! Each game area will be comprehensively covered with maps, screens, and text!
• Main Game Covered; every part of the main game is detailed.
• Complete Unova region Pokédex: Get the newest Pokédex before everyone else!
• Map Poster! A mini-poster with the area map and a type matchup chart!

Seems it's just a "Prettier" version of the first guide as it only has the Unova dex. I guess we will see.

Actually here is the exact wording.

The powerful Pokémon Zoroark has been caring for Zorua for many years, but before they met, Zoroark was considered something of a "lone wolf." Now Zoroark is very protective of Zorua, and it goes out of its way to teach Zorua as much as possible. Zoroark has the power to create incredible illusions, which it uses to protect itself.

Zorua comes from zorro, Spanish for "fox". Rua is Irish for red (hair), possibly referring to its red fur.

The Unova Pokedex has no pre-Gen 5 Pokemon in it.

However, many species are available from the Dream World once you've obtained the C-Gear

Also, numerous older species are available in swarms and the Eastern half of Unova after beating the game.

Multi quote abuse time!!

Wait... are you saying that Zoroark, pictured there, is 5 feet tall? Look at Ash! If Ash was laying there next to Zoroark, he would reach from head to waist, and Ash has to be at least close to 5 feet tall, if not a little taller.
Zoroark, when seen normally is sort of "crouched", if that makes any sense. I mean, at the end of the movie, she's roughly the same height as Rowena and Kurt. By that assessment, she'd definitely be quite a bit bigger if lying on the ground, like that picture showed.

You didn't know that you could get Zorua right away in Castelia City? Well, you can, so long as you've transferred over the Celebi.
Blame me for having had a lack of experience with some "event" things and being forced to finish the game in order to use them. However, I then remembered that you could use Arceus asap to acquire Dialga/Palkia/Giratine. I never got it, so I don't remember it as well.

I'm going to breed for some Zorua eggs anyway, so maybe I'll hatch a few dozen and keep them in my PC, in case I want to form a team of Zorua.
That's probably what I'll do once I get my own Zoroark.

Don't you think Mienshao should have a signature attack? It doesn't really have an attack that involves whipping>.>They should make an unique attack for it...and it should also learn Power Whip>.>
I suppose it could. After, the only "whip" attacks we have are solely based on vines, so I think something in that regard would probably be welcome.

Wait. . . The Zoroark in the movie isn't Zorua's mother?! O_o

Where was that said? Zorua refers to her as "Meema" in the dub, and "Maa" in the original. I think it's pretty certain that they are related.
Yeah, Cartoon Network decided to be asses and cut out the first 10 minutes and the end credits. Needless to say TPCi was not amused by that at all.

Fighting types are fantastic. Mienshao is... OMG, just now looking at its page in the Pokedex. Mienshao is AWESOME! He has a really good secondary ability (Regenerator) and a very good movepool, and he was a cute little prevo. Which begs the question; why are few people (that I know of) using it?
Good question. I do recall a video with someone using Mienfoo, but that's about it. I'll probably use it though; it looks pretty cool, and it learns a decent set of moves.

I still like Scrafty, but I'll still be using Mienshao for other purposes.

Amazon are now listing Volume 2 (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51WMuiw2J2L._SS500_.jpg) of the Black and White guide, for those interested. It's going to be released in April. So it seems that the Collector's Edition (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/414Fiuqms1L._SS500_.jpg) is just Volume 1 (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/511iZjxaNpL._SL500_AA300_.jpg) and 2 combined, with a lenticular cover. It isn't out in March, so I'm just going to purchase volumes separately, that way I'll have maps and item locations when the games come out.
I honestly don't know which to get. I would get both guides; but I'm sort of "strapped for cash" as it were. However, if all goes well, I'll probably just get the Collectors edition and the Unova Pokedex one. At least that way I have the basic stuff and the indepth stuff.

I'll beusing it!! From the second I saw it I didn't care what type it was or how crap it might turn out to be, I knew, the same way I knew about Milotic, that I had to have one on my team.
I'll probably rotate Mienshao with Scrafty every so often. I like both designs, I just don't know which to go with :/.

He might sadly fall into UU or NU with other overlooked gems though...I think Scrags and Scrafts are getting most of the fighting type love this gen.
Granted, you can't say there isn't a reason they're getting it. They have both the stats and the movepool to show off with. So, I can't say I blame them.

I've actually never been so pshyced about a fighting type Pokémon before, most fighting types are bulky with a lot of muscles, but not this one, this one is so elegant X3.
You didn't like Lucario?! I kid, I kid! :D.

Mind you, Scrafty is kinda Epicly awesome. In almost every way. He's an effective killer of Ghosts and Psychics and an Effective Dragon killer.
I think it's one of the very few Pokemon that can potentially take on the entire E4 with only some difficulty. I mean, he can can handle most except for fighting. That's pretty much it's only issue.

Oh, and didn't realize last post, but rank up! I've got to get rid of that Pink soon though, it's truly vile...
You can turn those things off you know.

Durant is really growing on me, I love its face and its whole design... Cool Pokemon.

Heatmor's Jp. name (Kuitaran) seems to come from 'eater' in Japanese and the English 'anteater'. I'm thinking it might be a pun on heat and eat more but I'm not sure.

I doubt it's armor, it isn't really armored and the localization team seems focused on preserving Japanese name meanings.

As for Heatmor, I was pretty stocked to hear that there would finally be an anteater Pokemon. I really didn't care that it would be a fire type, because, quite frankly, I'll deal with it for the sake that I finally have a damn anteater! Yes, I do realize that Durant is probably better competitively, but that doesn't mean I'm not allowed to use Heatmor; it just means that I'll have to be careful and hope that my opponent isn't using something that could potentially OHKO it.

Eh, That's what Chandelure is for ;).

It's not bad, but it has the disadvantage of being found after you could have got Panpour, Ducklett, Tympole and possibly Oshawott (possibly Tirtorga too), and becomes available at the same time as Alomomola and Frillish. It fought with ducklett for a while for a spot on my team, but eventually lost out just after the 6th gym.

I used Durant (And I'm still using it in Battle Subway), and it was REALLY great. Iron Head and X-Scissor destroy even neutral-type opponents, it can counter Fire-types with Stone Edge.
It might be one of the most useful Pokemon this Gen.
I haven't used Heatmor, but it has more weaknesses than Durant and it's worse competitively.

CaptainCombusken
27th February 2011, 10:47 AM
Bug/Steel types are just fantastic types. Fire is the only move to hit them (albeit a resounding hit) for super-effective damage. All They really need therefore is Earthquake or Stone Edge and they've pretty much sorted that situation. I Like Durant because he's also a good Baton Passer. He has Iron Defense, Rock Polish and Hone Claws and Baton Pass, meaning he's potentially a good filler of a stat raiser. One of the downfalls is that stupid Taunt...

Other Bug types are also really Good. A Swords Danced Scizor can decimate with Night Slash, Iron head and X-scissor. Super good type.

The same can be said for Water/Ground types, come to think of it. They're bulky most of the time and they're rather Powerful.

Since I'm sure very few people are interested I'll put it in a spoiler.
I'm *drum roll* Australian, ethnically Scottish, Sri Lankan, Swedish, Portuguese and Dutch (50% Scottish, varying degrees of the others).
As for Japanese, I began learning it at primary school ~15 years ago and haven't quit yet, although the vast majority (>90%) of my learning has occurred in the last 3 years. To the extent that I am able, I am always listening, watching, or reading some Japanese throughout the day and use a program called 'Anki' to 'study'. To be perfectly honest (and this is my biggest 'secret') I've only actually spent two months in the country over three trips, over a 5 year period, although I'm moving there this year. Whether or not I am any good at the language is not for me to decide, however, that I am occasionally mistaken for a native speaker (most often on the phone) on first impression is encouraging to say the least.

A friend of mine is also going to learn to speak Japanese in the summer holiday. I can only speak a little words like "Omoshiroi".

Only 5 days left! Man I am stoked for these games. Haven't actually looked forward to a Pokemon game as much as this since the RS days, weird. I really hope they can live up to expectations.

same :) only got excited thanks to these forums

On a further note, anyone think bisharp looks like a scizor/lucario/power ranger hybrid? looks awesome
