View Full Version : Would someone(s) mind making a few sprites?

Not entirely sure where the best section would be to put this thread, as I am new here, but I was wondering if anyone would mind making a few trainer sprites (for battle, not overworld) for me.
I'm making a Pokemon fan game that is set in a new region, and so has new gym leaders, etc. which then need sprites, of course. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: So, in answer to requests for more info, I guess I'll put the full disclosure here.
First, this is for the same project as this: http://www.rpgrevolution.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=45256

I am making a series of fan games using the program RPG Maker XP, in combination with the Pokemon Essentials kit from UPC. I am planning to make 3 separate games, mimicking the standard release of Pokemon games - 2 nearly identical games with the difference of a few Pokemon that are able to be found in the wild, and a 3rd that is mostly the same with a couple of differences. (Seems a little intimidating, but really the second game will simply be copied from the 1st, change the title screen, and certain wild Pokemon, and then its done, while third will be started from repeating that process and then adding a little more story).

These games are entitled Bronze, Steel, and Cobalt (if only mithral was a real metal :P), and the title screens will display Regirock, Registeel, and Regice, respectively. They are set in a new region called Shinnen, and are set 10 to 20 years before RBY/FRLG. I plan on, among other things, having a couple of cameos from young versions of iconic characters, such as Oak, Lance, and the player's rival, Giovanni (I thought it'd been fun to follow the rise of Team Rocket ^_^).

http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2010/265/e/8/shinnen_map___labeled_by_ken_no_shi-d2z95ye.png

Letters denote cities/towns, numbers mark forests, caves, etc. This region is located directly north of Kanto (...or is it Johto... I keep forgetting... the region of RBY).
Italicised regions are ones that I've already made the maps for (as well as the routes in between), but I don't feel that they are very good... Regardless, I'd like to focus first on the ones that aren't done first.

A - starting town. couple of houses, including player's house. NO lab.
B - Prof. Juniper's town. Has lab, PokeMart, Pokemon Center, and a couple of other houses.
C - Chestnut City - big major city (something like Goldenrod in GSC, without train). Big PokeMart (but its new, so only the first floor is open until later in the game ;P), also has radio tower/Silph Co.-like building (undecided on exactly which, could be both. obviously, yes this is where Team Rocket takes over, later), Pokemon Center, other buildings and first gym (normal-type Pokemon)
L - ('cause I didn't notice/forgot about it at first... ^_^') small in between town, not much in it, but will welcome ideas
D - Wormwood City - city located on a rocky plateau, next to Mt. Yokai (=Pokemon Tower+Mt. Ember) 2nd gym leader uses ghost-types
E - Pinecrest Town - small city in a tiny valley, gym-leader uses rock-type pokemon + a loudred (yes, I'm doing a lame pun, she's gonna be named after a rock star, that I haven't decided on yet). thinking of putting in something other attraction, but can't think of anything...
F - Beechcliff City - port city (obviously, also name is not a typo), gym leader (young Lance :P) uses flying-types (my game, don't argue), and has an obsession with trying to build a "flying machine" (which won't actually be completed in game, a ship is enough), city also has a harbor, ship will take player to
G - Hollyrime City - snow-covered city, gym leader uses ice-types (of course)
H - Cypress City - city of the Safari Zone, gym leader uses water-type Pokemon
I - Sakura Town - Japan-styled city, gym leader (named Musashi) uses fighting-type Pokemon
J - Yewfield City - possible location of Game Corner, its the best location thematically, its just so late in the game... gym leader uses dark-types
K - Pokemon League - it is what it is... Pokemon types in order of appearance - electric, fire, psychic, dragon

1 - a lake, what more needs being said? shouldn't be very big (explorable area at least, and most of it should only be reachable after the player gets SURF), needs at least one small patch of grass near entrance
2 - forest, to get to left (western) exit, player needs CUT
3 - Mt. Yokai - big mountain, with a decent sized tower at top (tower has 4 or 5 floors, bottom floor being lobby, w/ no wild Pokemon, or grave stones)
4 - tunnel between Chestnut City and Cypress City. needs FLASH, and player shouldn't be able to get through from Chestnut without STRENGTH
5 - tunnel/cave, not much to be said
6 - Ice Cavern - umm... icy... cavern... possibly with volcanic activity deeper in. haven't quite made up my mind on that...
7 - Mytstery Isle - lair of the Unown, breaks up into roughly 4 parts (a 2x2 square) in the map. right (eastern) two squares are unreachable, bottom left (southwestern) square has beach, top left (northwestern) doesn't, but has ruins for Unown to reside in (undecided on particulars of ruins, single/multiple, hole in cliff wall, ruin-like entrance (like FRLG), or possibly even use pyramid...)
8 - Safari Zone - it is what it is
9 - Victory Road - it is not what it is not

Other random notes:
The water route between C (Chestnut City) and J (Yewfield City) needs a waterfall to block travel from C to J.
The north-south part of the route from D (Wormwood City) to 9 (Victory Road) needs watchmen-type people to check for badges (as per RBY/FRLG), and/or sections requiring each HM (other than FLASH, and FLY).
The route between H (Cypress City) and I (Sakura Town) needs to only be fully passable with DIVE.

I'm using Diamond/Pearl style sprites.

Samurai Trainer class (I actually heavily borrowed from a sprite from a Trainer card generator, but I can't find the original one. If anyone recognises it, please let me know, so I can credit it.

List of Pokemon: (just fyi, I already have the sprites I need)

True, I did say that I have all the sprites that I need, but there a couple of GSC sprites that if I'd like revamps for. This isn't urgently needed though, so I can do without if necessary. If a Pokemon has GSC or Yellow sprite that I prefer, then I will put the games name in parentheses next to the Pokemon. Because Yellow sprites are particularly difficult to revamp, I have a backup for those. Any Pokemon that I want the Yellow sprite for, I have also put "or ______". I'd prefer the Yellow sprite, but the other game's works too.

What's this? No lab? Not quite. The lab comes later. Earlier Gramps bought you some new RUNNING SHOES, but didn't know whether you would prefer the red, blue, or green ones...

This does not belong here - in fact there really isn't aplace for this anywhere, except maybe the fan art open request thread, but even there the chances of someone doing it, and even more you finding it are slim

sorry

Honestly other people ad I to some extent might be interested in doing it, but thing is, about seemingly 2% of fan projects ever get finished and no one wants to see their work go to waste.

If you were to show the work you've done it, it would be different, but thats a LOT of work for someone to do just for some region someone made.

I would be interested in making some maps if you elaborated on the project a bit and how much progress you have made so far.

@Arceus_Shadow: Yeah, as I said, new. I sort of realised that this wouldn't really fit much of anywhere here, but I thought I'd try... If it's enough of a bother that it would be better deleted, I would first like to inquire if there is some way of getting a similar request here?

@Raiga: Yeah, I know. Presently, I don't really have terribly much to show (partially due to the fact that I'm working on it on a different computer, and so don't have many fruits of my labours with me, and partially due to the fact that there really aren't that many fruits to begin with at present... ^_^'). But I'm hoping to have a bit of a snowball effect starting soon, and will gladly post what I can in the meantime.

@Domo-kun: Thanks, I actually do need maps. I have a few already, but personally I think they sorta suck... Not enough to completely scrap just yet, but maybe... Anywho, I'm about to edit my first post to add in some more details on the project, including a link to another forum on which I'm looking for help.

@Raiga: It is quite clearly not just for 'some region someone made'. As shiroken stated in his/her first post, all of this work is going towards being made into a fan game made in RPG Maker.

Firstly, I believe this will be getting closed shortly, as you do not have permission to have a project. However, I am very interested in this, and could make the sprites for Pokemon Trainers, and various other things if you wish. If/when this gets closed, just PM me to get things going.

....Look on pokemon community forums. Look at the request help thread for the rpg maker stuff, everyday there is some 12 year old kid asking for an entire team so they can make their Pokemon purple version or whatever work, and they NEVER work out. The reason is because making a pokemon game is ridiculously more difficult than you could possibly expect, and as I mentioned before nobody wants their work to go to waste, especially just for some idea that could have been made by that 12 year old in 5 minutes.

Oh, and thanks for calling me out on not realizing it was made in RPG Maker, when I posted before they edited that info in the top post.

Have you seen the state this sub-section is in? Even if it would have been closed, there's no reason to. In addition, you seem to think the mods are cold-hearted people who would close the thread without thinking twice, but usually they post or pm. the leader of the project first and clear things up.

And if everyone had that attitude, there would never be anything done. Why should this guy just give up because you declare that it never works. For one, that's really quite rude and degrading to liken to him a 12 year old doing something in 5 minutes. You don't know how old they are, or how long it took them to put this together. Secondly, why don't you take a look at Pokemon community forums? There are quite clearly quite a lot of completed fan games & hacks there. Amazing, considering that they never work out, eh? Lighten up bit, this is really just a bit of fun; working together to try to create the Pokemon game that the guy wants. There's not going to be any profit or anything, it's just for personal use. If you don't wish to contribute then don't, but don't try to put the guy down and tell him that it will never work out.

I said his chances are better to get help if he shows work, what on earth is degrading about that? I apologize for trying to help someone.

The degrading thing was that you were saying that this kind of thing never works, and really just the tone of speech that was coming across. Sorry if that was not what was intended, but that's the way I saw it.

Anyway, I have made some trainer sprites for the gym leaders shiroken, to show you what I can do.

O.O Closed? Eek! Er... Permission? How would I go about getting that, for future reference?

In my defense, I'm 18, rather than 12. ...Though... That probably isn't a great defense, especially with other things... ^_^' Also, it's taking a bit longer than 5 minutes (and I mean that figuratively, just as I know that you didn't mean that literally).

Also, (and I'm addressing Dragon_Master, too, a little with this), I'm quite used to the "You wouldn't be able to pull this off" and similar lines. That's generally the first 5-8 posts on almost every thread I've set up for this. I've gotten used to it, and learned to ignore it.

...Didn't seem terribly out of context to me. Although, I do admit, the internet is a rather flat medium, making it difficult to convey tone. As per your request, I have now updated the post, including some of my work, although I do admit that most of it is part of the preparatory stage. On the bright side, though, since I have almost all of the metagame stuff (sans, as noted, a few trainer sprites), and all of the major points of the storyline planned (I work best filling in the details as I come to them), aside from making the maps, I expect to glide through the creation of this game like a hot knife through butter.

Wow!! Excellent!
To make sure I have it right...
Lance
Okuni? (not quite sure; actually supposed to be a girl... also I just finished my own sprite for her this morning)
Alice
Haruka
Lorraine

I think they all look excellent (even "Okuni" ^_^'), and I could certainly use them. For some reason, I especially like Lorraine, probably because I had absolutely no clue what to make her look like myself... ^_^'

You can certainly help. As I said though, I do have most of the storyline laid out, but I would certainly like to have someone to help bounce ideas off of, and fill in details.
O.O!! Trainer rosters! I've made a couple (for the forest), but it wasn't until you just mentioned it that I realised that it's gonna be a rather daunting task...

As for other sprites, I now have (in addition to the ones you just posted), sprites for Musashi, and the Samurai trainer class. I haven't yet started on Zach, but likely, I will soon, as I have now got an idea for him.

The reason I say he/she took it out of context, and also the reason you didn't get it either was that I was saying that the majority of games are run by such 12 year old individuals who thought up the idea in 5 minutes, however, not once did I say YOUR project was like that.

Which it isn't, as the second I seen your edited post I realized you were more mature than the usual, and had already put a significant amount of work into it. I was going to post that before, but I figured I didn't really have to.

Good luck on the project however, its not like I don't like to see them actually work.

I understood what you meant...and I agree. There are many fan projects that die early on and many that die late in their production.

I see potential in this game. :)
