Another staple thread for new game releases here for the 5th gen. =p

Post if you have found any shiny Pokemon, simply (please don't spam or post to say simply 'I haven't found any yet derp' or the such).

You must follow these rules for the thread if you don't want to be infracted.

All general Serebiiforums Rules (http://www.serebiiforums.com/showthread.php?t=364266) and B/W Rules (http://www.serebiiforums.com/showthread.php?t=438326), of course.

You may not go offtopic in this thread at all. This is discussion of and questions about shinies only. This means no talking about your favorite ice cream flavor or which Pokemon is the coolest, or anything like that. This also means none of the ever-annoying "congrats" or "good luck" messages. If you feel the need to say that to someone, do it on their profile.

This is B/W, which means Black and White shinies. Don't post here talking about SRing for Rayquaza or your Red Gyarados in Silver.

No "semi-legit" (aka still hacked but makes people feel better about themselves) or "hacked" shinies. No one can stop you from cheating to get Newmoon Island on your Pearl, but don't share it with us. Don't post here saying you got a fake shiny Reshiram/Zekrom or something.

You may only post once per page. This is using the default 20 posts per page. If you use something else... either change it to view this thread or count by every 20 posts. Posting more than once per page for any reason will earn you an infraction.

Frequently-Asked Questions about Shinies

Check the main site’s Shiny Mechanics Page (http://www.serebii.net/games/shiny.shtml) first.

1. Q: Shiny Pokemon? What are those?
A: Shiny Pokemon first appeared in the Gold and Silver games for the Gameboy Color. Basically, they are alternately colored Pokemon (for example, shiny Charizard is black instead of orange).

2. Q: Wow! Are shiny Pokemon more powerful?
A: Unfortunately, no. The ONLY difference between shinies and regular Pokemon is the color. They’re pretty much just for bragging rights.

3: Q: How can I find a shiny Pokemon?
A: Every single catchable Pokemon that you find (Eggs, Gifts, Wild, etc) has a 1/8192 chance of being shiny. There are a few ways to find certain Pokémon as shiny quicker, but you still need to rely on luck. They are often called Masuda Method and PokeRadar Chaining (note the latter is for D/P/Pt only).

4: Q: But I’ve seen over 10000 Pokemon in my game and haven’t found a shiny yet! That can’t be right!
A: 1/8192 is a probability. That doesn’t mean that after 8192 Pokemon, you will automatically find a shiny.

A good example of this is when you roll dice. You have a 1/6 chance of getting any particular number when you roll, such as the number 2. That doesn’t mean that you will roll a 2 in six rolls, or that your second roll will be a 2, etc.

The same goes for shiny Pokemon. You may find a shiny on your first try, or within a hundred tries, or maybe not until 10000 tries.

To delve in a bit deeper, picture that whenever you encounter a Pokemon, a random number between 1 and 8,192 is generated. Let’s say that the number 500 is the “shiny number.” If 500 happens to be the random number that’s generated, the Pokemon will be shiny. If the number is anything else, it will be a normal Pokemon. Nice odds, aren’t they?

5: Q: If I breed a shiny Pokemon, will the baby from the Egg be shiny as well?
A: Unlike in G/S/C, where you had a higher chance of hatching shiny offspring when the parents were shiny, this is NOT true for any of the later generation games. In the 4th Generation, almost every Pokemon has the same odds of being shiny. There is the exception to this rule, being the Masuda Method.

6: Q: What is this soft resetting/SRing thing I’ve been hearing about?
A: Soft resetting (SRing) is when you press Start + Select + L + R to reset your DS (just like turning the system off and on, skipping the firmware screen). It’s helpful when trying to find a shiny of a Pokemon you can save in front of, such as your starter at the beginning, legendaries, etc. It's faster than turning the game on and off, and it's less stressful on the system/batteries. Save, see if the Pokemon is shiny, if not SR your game and try again. Just like finding any shiny, this depends completely on luck, but if you’re patient you should eventually get your shiny. Keep in mind that this could take hours or days with luck, and months and months without.

7: Q: What does a shiny _____ look like?
A: The Pokedex on the main site shows sprites of every Pokemon:
http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-bw/

8: Q: How do I know if I have a shiny Pokemon?
A: Besides the change in color, a shiny Pokemon will sparkle when it
comes into battle. There are also a couple changes on its summary page, which you can see on the main site’s shiny page (link above).

9. Q: When will I know if I’ve gotten a shiny starter?
A: When you’re choosing your starter, the game will show you a picture of each Pokemon. This picture will NOT show you whether that Pokemon is shiny or not (unlike in HGSS). You will have to choose it and check its summary, or use it in battle, to find out if it’s shiny or not.

10. Q: Can I save before hatching my Egg, and reset until I have a shiny?
A: No. All of the Egg's values are set once you take it. However, you can save before taking it and have a chance.

11. Q: If my shiny Pokemon evolves, will it stay shiny?
A: Yes. Once shiny, always shiny.
If you have any other questions or think something should be added here, don't hesitate to PM me.

Masuda Method
Essentially, the Masuda Method consists of this:
1. You obtain a Foreign Pokemon [E.g. a German Ditto]
2. You breed your Pokemon with aforementioned foreign Pokemon.
3. The Game checks to see if one pokemon is foreign.
4. Thus, the chances of getting a Shiny Pokemon is roughly fourthed [supposedly 1/2048 instead of 1/8192 in 4th gen games, but in B/W it is 6/8192 (!)]

I literally just caught a shiny Zuruggu about a minute ago. Of course its one of the few Isshu Pokemon I'm not fond of, but still it's (I think) my first ever random shiny encounter. I may or may not keep him *Sigh*, if only it was a shiny Meguroko.

I really like the look of the shiny forms in this generation. There seems to lots of bright, colourful ones this time around; and some with complete colour changes, which I like (such as Emboar - though I'm rather partial to blue shinies anyway).

I recieved my copy of Pokemon Black on the 22nd, and have pretty much been spending all my free time hunting for a shiny Mijumaru - currently I'm at 2595 soft resets for it.

I wish it would hurry up and appear so that I can start my game. XD

I tried looking for Shiny Pokemon days ago since I heard that their appearance rate was changed and that they appeared more often now. I don't know if this has to do with that, but I did find a Shiny Churine this morning while I was looking for Yanappu in the forest west of Shippou City. I was looking for Shaking Grass and I ran into a normal wild Pokemon battle, except the Pokemon in it was a Shiny Pokemon this time. I caught the Churine but I have no further plans with it; it's just there to look nice and nothing else really. I'll post an image of it when I can but you all probably know what a Shiny Churine looks like anyway.

I love Shiny Musharna, even though I'm not a shiny Munna fan (Come on. What's with the odd yellows again, Gamefreak? You did so well with all the other ones!) But I love the color of shiny Musharna.

So someone fill me in. What's the story on shiny rates now? Is it to the point where you can blink and suddenly have shinies popping out of thin air?

Never was a big fan of shinies. I honestly don't get the craze. There aren't any special boosts to the Pokemon for being shiny (though that would provide more of a headache). It's mostly a cosmetic infatuation.

If you had me choose between a Shiny Pokemon and a Dream World Pokemon, I'd probably choose the DW-Pokemon because at least it is going to be different from its real world counterpart.

I really like how Jaroda turns blue-ish for the shiny form because I love the color Blue. I like Kirikizan's for the same reason.

Even though Denchura's shiny form looks like the normal form in shade, I do like how it is darker. Makes it more "creepy cute spider" imo.

And finally, I Love Ononokusu's shiny coloration because it looks like it is a shadow/dark version and as if it's got some blood lust with the red eyes, axe-horns, and claws. But then it's kind of a bummer cause you realize it's not the dark-dragon. What is the chance % of finding a shiny form? A Shiny Ononokusu (well...Kibago) is one that I would actually be willing to hunt down and capture.

I don't think the shiny rate has changed. I just think that since more people from the forum are importing the games these days, more people are playing, and so it's more likely that a at least a few of them will find shinies.

The same thing happened when D/P were released in Japanese, and the shiny rate hadn't changed then.

No, I meant that since there were more people playing them, there was a higher chance of people finding shinies and commenting on said shinies.

(and it's spelled breeding)

The same thing happened when D/P were released in Japanese, and the shiny rate hadn't changed then.

You need to send the starter into battle to see if it's shiny. It won't be shiny in the selection screen.

do shionies breed shinies? or is there no significant use for them?

Shinies have the same chance of breeding shinies as normal Pokemon. If you breed two Pokemon that are foreign to each other; such as breeding a Japanese Pokemon with an English Pokemon, the odds of hatching a shiny are increased to 1/2048.

Currently at 3452 soft resets for a shiny Mjumaru.

and the probability of 1 in 8000 doesnt mean you must reach 8000 encounters or less to get it shiny, its a probabbility, you may never get it...

You need to send the starter into battle to see if it's shiny. It won't be shiny in the selection screen.

That really, really sucks :( That will take so much longer to get a shiny starter now compared to Hg/Ss.

Hmm, look at what KIRA found (http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab311/deliaoak/100_2391.jpg) in that cave near the DayCare Center on Route 3. I was looking for low level Pokemon to battle in that area today and I found this beautiful monster! I cannot believe that's two Shiny Pokemon in just 3 days! Koromori itself was my favorite new Isshu Pokemon but now a Shiny Koromori looks even better than the original haha. I didn't nickname it as I thought it would ruin the Pokemon but I'm keeping this one for myself. Sorry about the image quality; Shiny Koromori are green but it doesn't show up well. The red star means it's shiny though haha. My camera sucks :[

I wonder if there's some convoluted method of increasing the chance of encountering shiny Pokemon. To be honest, I mainly maxed my High Link levels in hopes that I'd get some kind of "increases shiny Pokemon encounter rate" power-up.

I have the most horrible random wild shiny luck, having only encountered two throughout the course of all of the Pokemon games I've owned.

1- Anybody have shiny Zekrom image?
2- Anybody got a shiny Zoroark image too?
3- So im confused, is the shiny rate retained from D/P/Pt/HG/SS? Or is it changed(lower or higher?
thanks everyone:)

BTW Sazondo and its pre evolutions are the best shiny's IMO yet.

Yesterday I've managed to catch a Shiny Shikijika. The deer is easily my favorite 5th Gen Pokemon and I've got its shiny form as well (the normal form has already evolved). Now I really wanna stop the season, but two days later it'll be summer! Argh!

Shikijika is my second shiny encounter though. And my first one is...Magikarp back in Emerald, accidentally fished up when I was hunting for Feebas. XDDDDD

XD
the shinies are really interesting this time. I really like the Tsutaja line's shiny forms, the darker pallet makes it look good, i did as I planned and tryed to SR ashiny Tsutaaja and Mijumaru, but i have to wait till later because i was afraid that i wouldnt get it for a long time like my Lugia is SS and miss the Liberty Ticket. I keep hoping that in my venture to download as many Liberty Tickets as possible before the event ends, i'll eventually come across a shiny of some sort.

Im hoping for a starter as i keep choosing different ones whenever i restart the game, but any shiny will do. Ive seen youtube videos now of the sparkle effect which is similar to the 4th gen " circle of stars" so im prepared. I really think they messed up Warubiaru's shiny form. They took away his shades! and the Chandelier loses its spooky haunted house affect when he gains orange fire instead of like green or purple. I'll evntually start shiny hunting but im not really concerned with that yet. Im also dissapointed with Ice Cream's shiny form. They could have turned his Ice cream green(Mint), Pink(Strawberry) or Brown for Chocolate.

I dont think the shiny rate has changed. If it has its not by much

Omg, that's a Shiny Pokemon I'm after too! I tried my luck yesterday to see if any wild Shiny Shikijika appeared in the route next to Hodomoe City but no luck even after hours upon hours of searching! I expected to get lucky a third time but it didn't work out so well this time haha. I don't particularly like Shiny Shikijika, but a friend wants one so bad they'd kill for it so I was hoping to find one and just give it to them. I already traded that Shiny Churine I got the other day so I was hoping to do the same with Shikijika :)

The shiny rate has not increased guys, the only reason why it seems it has is because more and more people are importing games these days, which obviously means there is a higher number of people getting shinies.

If there was an increase in the normal shiny rate we would have known about it by now, and it would be confirmed by sources who take apart the games, rather than just by people assuming its increased due to number of people getting shinies.

It happened even when the HG/SS remakes came out, people were getting shinies every day, and people assumed the rate had increased, but it hadn't.

I'm so glad that it has finally appeared. Now I can actually start playing Black. This'll be the first time I've ever done my first play-through of a new game with a shiny starter; I didn't bother SR'ing for a shiny starter in my first play-through of D/P and HG/SS, and when R/S came out I wasn't even a 'shiny hunter'.

I'd love to find a random shiny as I make my way through the game - I've never done that on my first play-through either. ^_^

Good luck to everyone else on their shiny hunting.

4169? How long (In minutes/hours/days/etc) did that take? I'm actually considering SRing for a Tsutaja when I get the game (So much longer...), but I don't know if I'll do it if it took you like... 2+ weeks to do that.

The soft resets take just over a minute, so, assuming you can do about 55 SR in an hour, it took around 75 hours (eight days of SR'ing - I started on the 22nd). But I've had a lot of free time, and basically spent all of it SR'ing, as I wanted a shiny Mijumaru.

Oh, wow. Congrats Helio!^^

Some of the questions in my head have been answered regarding to sring for the starters n shiny rate. I might try it once I get my white copy.

Too bad they don't let us transfer any items w/ migrated pokemon.
I won't feel very confident w/ only one master ball to sr for B/W shiny legendaries. But it could be challenging too.
I might spend more time hunting for RE shinies.
It's great that they put totally all new pokemon in the wild, so I don't have to worry meeting wild ratatta, zubat or Gyarados or Geodude. <_<

Can't wait.

It may seem like everyone's getting shinies, but that's because you're viewing the Shiny Discussion Thread. 100% of the captures showcased in this thread will be shiny captures.

In fact, shinies are actually rarer this generation because there's no PokeRadar or Red Gyarados.

I figured as much. I've found my share of Shiny Pokemon, but it took some actual effort unlike when you used the PokeRadar in Generation 4 and found them pretty easily. In fact, I found one this morning I'm quite proud of since it took effort and work and not totally luck like in the old days. Also, note that most of the Shinies encountered so far are common Pokemon like Kurumiru, Churine and Koromori; Pokemon you can find easily and therefore, might have a better chance of being Shiny since not too many other Pokemon appear to get in the way.

The shiny encounter rate has not changed. Lots of people just bought B/W therefore more shinies.

1. Soft Resets are not 'stored', your never guaranteed to get a Shiny from Soft Resetting no matter how many you've done. You just have a 1/8192 chance each time you encounter a Pokemon of it being shiny.

I have a slight hunch that maybe those increased encounter rate power-ups from the High Link might increase the rate of encountering shiny Pokemon by some degree, because the encounter rate is already so high normally, I barely even notice a difference when I activate the power-up. Of course, there's no reliable way of proving or disproving that theory.

I also wonder if the Dream World will have any ways of finding shiny Pokemon more easily.

What proof is there for that claim? I've shiny hunted on both games and came out with many shinies on HGSS and a shiny on Black just under an hour into playing. :I

I messed around a little bit in the Pokedex with Choroneko and Reparudasu's entries (since I caught a shiny one and Reparudasu's entry was permanently shiny) and discovered that you can actually switch between normal and alternate colour for permanent display. Choroneko's entry was normal at first, but now I've switched it to shiny permanently (unless I want to change it back).

It'd be cool to see someone hunt as many shinies as they could on BW and make heaps of entries in the Pokedex shiny. (:

Zorua and Zoroark aren't Legendary Pokemon, just given as a gift and encountered as an interactable Pokemon, respectively :]

Anyway, I posted a few pages back about how I was searching for a Shiny Shikijika to give to a friend of mine and having had no luck with it. Actually there is a way in HG/SS. Idk exactly how it works, but you need a pokemon with sweet scent.

This is not true at all. There is no "sweet scent" method which increases shiny rates legitimately.

The only "sweet scent" method is used in Pokemon Emerald, wherein because it has a broken RNG, meaning if you know your ID & SID, you can find your shiny frames, and then you can use "sweet scent" to hit that target frame.

Other than that, Sweet Scent has absolutely no effect on shiny rate, and even the one i mentioned above isn't legitimate, as its called RNG abuse.

Why does everyone keep coming out with these "supposed" facts about shiny rate increases. If there was a shiny rate increase, then it would be known by shiny hunters first and foremost, because that is what they do, they look in the games to see if there is a new method to decrease shiny odds.

Congrats The 4th Kira, on your shiny shikijika, not much change in terms of aesthetics, but still a kick *** shiny to own.

I got my pokemon white copy yesterday. Yay, it's shiny hunting time on B/W too!
I plan to order the black version too. I'm gonna beat your 3 shinys kira.^^
Congrats on all the recent shinys btw guys.
I've been trying my luck to hunt for one of the shiny starters as well, at least until near the end date of the Liberty ticket event. My goodness, it's so slow for one reset. Hopefully I will get it, if not then fine. Yesterday and today this morning, I've only got 700 SR's so far o.O

Which is impossible. The game is specifically programmed to make all Pokéwalker Pokémon non-shiny.

The only time I got a shiny by SRing was in Ruby, I got a torchic after... like 20 times, but I was actually looking for a good nature, not for a shiny, LOL. I wouldn't SR for a shiny because it could take forever xD. I tried once for a dratini but after like 50 times I gave up :P

Has anyone here had any luck SRing for a Shiny Isshu Starter Pokemon/Fossil Pokemon/Event Pokemon? I was wondering if anyone has been successful in SRing for the Starters and even the fossil Pokemon and Zorua. I think I've seen someone getting a Shiny Mijumaru, but I'm wondering, how many tries did that take exactly? And has anyone gotten Shiny fossil Pokemon or other gift Pokemon? I'd like to give it a go myself.

Thanks, so it seems all the Starters can be Shiny and obtained pretty easily. Though I'm wondering about something that post said. The person said that the Starter they sent into battle was Shiny; does that mean we won't know whether it's Shiny until we toss the ball during the beginning of the battle then? I had hoped their sprites during the selection screen would be Shiny :s

I arrived at Reshiram earlier this morning, and started SR'ing for a shiny one. So far I've done 100 SR. I'll do more later on this afternoon.

These soft resets are so much faster than going for a shiny starter. n_n

Plus I looked up Reshiram's catch rate, and it's higher than Dialga/Palkia's at 45. So I should be able to catch the shiny one in something other than my master ball (I wanted to save that for shiny Victini).

Good luck on your hunts guys.

The only isshu I have wit certain shinys is among evolution families, for example, shellder is purple, cloyster is purple, same colors. shiny shellder is oarnge, you would expect shiny cloyster to be kinda oarnge to right? wrong it's green? if normal colors are similar, the shiny forms also should be similar (that way we get a black charmander line)

(I may have reveresed the shellder line colors)

Now, the thug pokemon, the evolution wears the skin of it's preevo like a hoodie, and in normal, the extra skin is yellow, on both stages becuase it's the same skin, look at both sets of extra skin on both forms, notice somthing wrong?

TheFreak
3rd October 2010, 6:14 PM
Well I agree with the statement above.
It makes no sense for a yellow charmander to evolve into black charizard.
Shiny evolution lines should stay the same.

The same thing counts for the normal ones though.
I just don't see the blueish marvin thing evolving into the red thing?

Anyway, what i want to know is whether the ratio of finding shinies in double battles is determined for each pokemon seperatly which would double the chances of finding a shiny thhere...

Just curious, how did you go about "trying to find a shiny"? Just running around in circles for hours on end?

That's sort of what I do haha. I found my first Shiny Pokemon in Black and White (Churine) on accident but found my second and third (Koromori and Shikijika) by running around in circles in the cave near Shippou City and the route near Hodomoe City. It takes almost literally forever but with a a little luck and a pinch of magic, you should find one. People seem to be finding them more easily in Generation 5 for some reason though, as seen in some of the previous posts. I think people are just trying harder to find them though, which leads to success.

I suppose with the increased encounter rate and wild double battles, you could find shinies a little bit quicker the 'hard way' than we used to. I still really wish they would have brought back something similar to the PokeGear. I'm going to be starting up a Platinum game soon just so I can hunt shinies when I'm bored like I did back when I still had my Pearl, hah.

Just curious, how did you go about "trying to find a shiny"? Just running around in circles for hours on end?

Yep. Good old fashioned random encountering. ^_^

I've found loads of shinies via random encounters - it's a great way to level-up your Pokemon amd hunt for shinies at the same time (bring along some Pokemon with pick-up ability too and you can find yourself loads of great items as well). In fact I'm hunting in Diamond's Valley Windwork right now for a shiny (preferably a shiny Buizel, but anything other than shiny Shellos will do).

But this is the 5th gen topic, so I'll get back on topic. I'm currently at 650 soft resets for a shiny Reshiram. And I plan to do a few more before the day is done.

Once I've caught shiny Reshiram and completed the game I'm planning on trading over an English Ditto/Smeargle and trying my hand at some shiny breeding in Black.

I managed to get a Tsutaja/Pokabu from the GTS, so I'll probably try hatching one of those two.

No. Severel rumors persist but they didn't mess with the appearance rate for Shiny Pokemon in Black and White. A lot of people have found Shiny Pokemon in these games, but that's probably because they're actually looking for them and not just randomly encountering them all.

I caught it just because I wanted another Shiny in Black and White, not because it's particularly appealing in it's design. It fact, you might say I hate Chobomaki but I caught this guy anyway. Took two Great Balls, then a Net Ball to seal the deal. I'm planning on trading this for a Reshiram that I still haven't gotten. No, it isn't. I had an Illuminator(Miruhog) in the front of my party for the reason of encountering Pokemon faster. I was encountering Pokemon every other step of grass when I was doing this.

i really doubt it. from all the SR attempts people are mentioning, the rates are VERY likely the same. its been said before but the "increased rate" illusion is a result of people playing in mass. playing through the game, going through hoops for the story and training off tons and tons of wilds. also people are less likely to spam Repels.

lots of people being forced into/forcing themselves into lots and lots of random wild battles results in lots of shinies. but since SRing seems to be just as annoying as ever, and breeding results not being in yet, i'd say its the same or very very close.

I don't collect Shinies usually, and I won't in these games. I've captured a Shiny Churine, Shiny Koromori, Shiny Shikijika, and Shiny Chobomaki so far in White version and I've traded away all of them except Koromori since it's my favorite Generation 5 Pokemon so far. I just feel like searching for them and then just keeping them locked in the PC Boxes is kind of weird. You put so much hard work into finding them, why not use them in battle or trade them to people who will use them in battle? I just feel that keeping too many Shiny Pokemon locked up is an odd way to go about them.

Shiny Dex entries are cool. Im just hoping i run into a shiny soon, im really not picky. I never use repels. Im was so dissapointed seeing shiny shikijika, there's barely any color change, i thought theyd branch out the colors more like yellow for spring, a darker green for summer, a more brownish orange for fall and white or light blue for winter. it was really dissapointing.

Yes, it's female o.O the pink ball on the tip of it's tail is so cute.

Do you guys know what's so cool? B/c I tripled hunted shinies on other games too, on the way to shiny Pokabu, I managed to get 2 shinies on my JP HG and US SS. Shiny Metapod and Vulpix. You guys can see the shiny Vulpix pic in the HG/SS shiny thread.

Congrats on that! I'm currently SR for Pokabu myself, think im on about 5 days but not solid SR just now and then. I don't plan on playing the japanese version much, I just want the shiny starter and a shiny victini.

Oh also, try and take a picture of it in battle, so I know exactly what I am looking for colour wise :p

Thanks.^^ I'm not obsessed in playing the game too.
I wanna try my luck on getting the shiny green monkey after this.
I have ordered the black version, once I get it I wanna sr for shiny Mijumaru.

This probably has already been answered: Did it look shiny when selecting it? That is to say, is it the same as in HGSS?

Unfortunately no. You have to wait for the battle. When the pokemon falls from pokeball, and as soon as its feet touch the ground, it will starts to sparkle.^^

Congrats on the new shinies and good luck on your hunts guys.

I thought as much. I had asked about the whole Shiny Isshu Starter thing before but I didn't get a definite answer though I assumed we'd have to wait for it to enter battle to tell whether or not it would be Shiny. Kind of annoying since it takes a few more seconds and that builds up over time since we have to keep soft-reseting to get a Shiny version. I'm about to start Black and I'll begin trying to get my own Shiny Pokabu so look out! Lol.

How many Shinies have you encountered in the games so far, Cutty Flam? I'm at 4 so far (Churine, Koromori, Shikijika, Chobomaki).

Soft resetting is simply the act of pushing A+B+Select+Start on your DS simultaneously to return to the title screen.

no my friend, that combination works with GBA games.. for DS you need to press L+R+START+SELECT simultaneously.

Basically you save the game, then see if a starter/interactable legend is a shiny. If not, you do a soft reset, then load the save file, and see if it is now a shiny. If not, keep doing it again until you get a shiny.

So...what is the rate of catching a shiny? I really want one that I will use for more than a few towns or just as a "Trophy". (a Shiny Tsutarja is one I want like CRAZY for that reason) Plus, sometimes the shiny colorations are just so much nicer to my eyes. ;)

The only ones I have ever found are a Red Gyarados (wow...prestigious...), a Shiny Raikou, some random Pidgy, and the "Pickachu colored Pichu".

That makes me think I don't want to hear the odds...

Shinies dont have different catch rates, pokemon in general do, so seeing a shiny pokemon doesn't make it harder to catch, it depends what the species of pokemon is

I think that was an expression of shock rather than a reply to your post mate.

Royalty, it's 1/8192 for any shiny, whether it's soft-reset for/random encounter/bred (the only difference with breeding is Masuda Method which is when you breed a foreign pokemon with yours, this increases the odds to 1/2048) Not sure if this works on black & white yet though!

Stop being so bloody rude.

You got an answer to your question: the odds of finding a shiny are 1/8192.

Which doesn’t mean that you’re guaranteed to find a shiny within 8192 encounters/SR; it just means that each time you encounter a Pokemon, it has a 1/8192 chance of being a shiny.

The amount of SR/encounters you’ll have to before you find a shiny will be random. For example, my shiny Ho-oh in HG took only 145 soft resets… but my shiny Dialga in Diamond took 25,249 soft resets.

In shiny news: I'm still SR'ing for a shiny Reshiram. I'm currently at 7910 soft resets. I'm still hoping it'll appear before 10,000...

Hmm.. Maybe so but the reply was very rude, and it didn't sound like he was replying in shock to the answer. I know I wouldn't be shocked if I had just found out that shinies have the same catch rate as their non shiny counterparts. I have a surprising amount of patience when it comes to SR'ing (I'm not very patient in real life...) and I kind of just think to myself "oh well, a shiny one is bound to appear at some point"

And after you've done a few thousand SR, you might as well keep going until the shiny one appears, otherwise you'd have been wasting your time.

Currently at 9430 SR for shiny Reshiram. My shiny dragon continues to allude me... I doubt it'll appear before 10,000 SR now, but I can still hope. >.>
