View Full Version : My first scratch(es) - Critique please!
11th October 2010, 6:34 PM
Hello everyone, this is my first scratch sprite so I'm not sure how well I did or if I actually did it right. I tried my hand at a meowth as it seemed fairly simple, but at the moment I'm not sure if I am happy with how it turned out. I'd love some critique so I can improve for the future.
If I had to say what it wrong - I am guessing the eyes are too small and the feet are out of proportion, but I'd love some ideas! Thank you.

it's good for a first scratch. but, meowth looks a little too fat. the eyes look a little too far apart as well. the feet are way out of proportion, one is clearly bigger than the other, and on the right foot, it looks like he doesn't have a leg. o_O
it's good for a first try. just keep those things in mind.

It's very good for your first scratch, but I think there are some things you should change. Like you said, the eyes seem a bit too small but the rest of the head seems okay. The body looks a bit too fat, the arms and legs seem a bit thin and the left leg seems too small. Everything else seems okay though and it's probably better than I could do.

Thanks a lot everyone! I knew there was something wrong.
I remade the eyes and fattened up his limbs, sorted out his feet (I think) and made him a little less fat. I hope it's a little better than before!

Its much better now, but it seems that the paw to the left of us isnt really connected, just dropped there.

Thank you! I will work on that!
http://i54.*******.com/ru2m8y.png A new sprite I have made! How is this? :)
I have entered this into a competition at the moment so I can't really change it until after it has been judged, but I would love your ideas! Thank you

Aside from the disproportion, it's done quite well. Now, Aero needs a diet. Badly. In reality, the weight wouldn't allow it to fly. The head's a bit big too. But it's not half bad.

Thank you. I guess I make all my sprites too fat then! Haha.
I'll try and work on this when I get the chance. :)

Aviod using circles for the body. Aside from the much fatter or rounded pokemon, rectangles or triangles work as a good basis.
