View Full Version : The most aggravating Pokemon in The Ranger series

So, you play pokemon ranger, and then you happen to come across a pokemon that is seemingly hard to capture while you're having your stylus swung around in the screen in public like you're mentally challenged. Anyways, there is always a pokemon that stops you in your tracks and destroys your capturing device making you start over for your hard work. For me? hmm. LET ME LIST THEM
Ludicolo (my first hardest)
Charizard (practiced and successfully captured it)
Steelix (STILL TRYING TO CAPTURE IT)
Some other opinions on your aggravating Pokemon?

Steelix in the first ranger game is pretty hard. I found out a trick to capture him, but you got to be really lucky. First, make sure he's coiling up, and when he is, blast him with Plusle/Minun and use Medicham as a pokemon assist and there you go.
Also Ninjask from the first ranger game is insanely difficult to capture as well.
Salamence also gave me some grief too. But I figured out how to circumvent it. After failing for a few turns. I went back and proceeded to capture it and caught it on the first loop.

Salamence in the first one. Loads of loops and immunity to Plusle's zap... @_@
It didn't help that you had to get a certain number of loops to catch it. Thank goodness they replaced that with HP bars...

Arceus in the past missions, when you're alone. Not only do you have to quickly take out 27 other pokemon, several of which are bosses, but you then have to take on Arceus; and with the brutal time limit (not to mention what he does, which I won't spoil here), it's very hard to capture him. I managed to capture him... eventually.

Try any of these challenges on a DSi XL. You have to draw circles as big as the moon.

Salamence was hard since we had to do 22 loops on the guy... Does anyone believe that I managed to capture him during a bumpy car ride?
Then Charizard, me and my bro keep on taking turns with the DS trying to catch him, which we finally succeeded a few hours later...
Then Steelix... was just brutal... Luckily there was a Sneasel around. Cost me my styler energy, but a much extended line is worth it...
Luckily they changed it at the next games, otherwise I might grow hating the Ranger games instead of loving them.

Salamence and Steelix in the first game, definitely. To be honest, I never even beat Salamence myself, my cousin did it for me. Also, Steelix took me forever because of not being able to touch it at all. Thanks to the HP bars, none of the pokemon in the other two games even come close. Drapion in Shadows of Almia gets an honorable mention for being the toughest out of the other two games, but it's not nearly as tough as these two. Although I don't think I was able to beat Drapion without Cranidos. Also, am I the only one who thought Guardian Signs was too easy? I blew through it in 2 days and didn't die once. Some of the things I noticed that made it too easy were the upgrade system (the difficulty never seems to rise to accommodate the fact that you're always leveling up your styler), the lack of challenging attacks (like Drapion's puddles that linger long enough to drain his HP bar), and that the HP bar doesn't seem to drain as fast.

I've played all three Pokemon Ranger games and I've defeated them all. Throughout each game, I've faced tons of annoying Pokemon, but the Steelix from the first Ranger game is the most aggravating Pokemon, ever. I dislike that thing and when I was playing through the first Ranger game again recently, I almost chucked the DS at the wall because that Steelix was so hard to capture. Even when using a Fighting assist, I couldn't make the loops capture Steelix and my Capture Styler broke about 10 times in a row. I had to get help with that but I was still pretty mad about that Steelix.

If Charizard from Guardian Signs is the best you can come up with, then either you haven't played any of the other Ranger titles or you rely on Poke Assists too much. Because not only did I not have remotely any trouble with any of the pokemon in Guardian Signs, but I also barely had to use any Poke Assists the entire game. Am I the only person who thinks this game is a joke?

In Shadows of Almia, unless you're using Poke assists(which I did), Regigigas > me. Drapion and Darkrai were fairly annoying as well. And let's not ever, EVER, forget the mighty Capture Arena.

on the third pokemon ranger game, i am stuck in the past at magmorter -_-

Pokemon Ranger 1 -
*1 - Camerupt - took me a couple years to get passed him... Until I realized I could use a styler instead of my fingers -_-
2 - Mr. Mime - Took forever... those barriers drove me nuts!
3 - Muk - those puddles...
4 - Gyrados - was tough to get to the point of using plusle's assist
5 - Ludicolo - tough avoiding the notes...
6 - Charizard - that fire is hard to avoid...
7 - Steelix - avoid touching him was tough
8 - Altaria - What a pain to avoid lowered points!
9 - Entei - for awhile anyway, but then discovered the secret short cut to getting him
10 - Mew (Toughest) - catching it in time was tough.
Rayquaza, Groudon, Kyogre, Suicune, and Raikou were the easiest Legendary Pokemon for me, and only took 1 try!
Pokemon Ranger and the Shadows of Almia -
Only Regiggigas - avoiding lowered points to 0 to get him takes many tries every time...
Pokemon Ranger and the Guardian Signs -
Only Metagross - with Recharge being very difficult, takes many tries without losing all points.
all 3 games had flaws, 2 and 3 has what the other needs instead...

I'm stuck on Metagross in the lightning temple. Aswell as lacking time causing me to fail he is by far the hardest one I have had to endure in the ranger series. Makes me wish someone I knew had the game to help me out...

I've only played the first Ranger game, but I'd have to say its definately Salamence. 22 Loops is not a small number, and his body size and constant disruption doesn't help.
Charizard wasn't that hard IMO. Steelix is easy once you figure out that you need the Sneasel. Flygon and the Kingdras were really easy. Entei was sort of hard, considering you have to go through Raikou and Suicune with no save, but he's manageable. Mew is IMPOSSIBLE unless you use the Shedinjas near the temple entrance.

Most of the bosses in the original were hard, especially Salamence. It took me days to capture it, while it only took one day, but many tries, to capture the others. Some of the bosses, like Kingdra, were pretty easy, but a lot of them were really hard... I never had too much trouble in the other two.

Entei in the first game was extremely difficult for me. That Pokemon was the reason why I was stuck on the last boss for at least A YEAR.
I also find Magnezone on the second game to be really hard. I have heard other people says it`s really easy to catch, but I always have so much trouble with it. I nearly lost the first time I caught it.

Arceus in the Light Temple, with no other people to play with, it's a NIGHTMARE to pull off. You need to be lvl 70+ (I think that's when Styler Power growth slows down dramatically) to even consider doing it.

I only played the first one so..
Not in order
1. Steelix - This pokemon was so dumb it's so long so it was hard to catch. Luckily all I had to do was paralyze it and use Medichan -.-
2.Salamence - I seriously hate this one. Took me a few moments to realize what the pattern was. So I finally caught it ;_;
3. Raquezza - This pokemon was so mad loooooooong. Every time you try to circle it, if u touch it the capture breaks =_=. Also his dumb tailwinds. Luckily I had Gengar scare him and got him (3 HP and was close ;D)
4. Entei (Temple) - I'll admit it was hard. First he has flames all over him so u have to circle him till the flames are gone. Then we goes berserk and makes flumes all over the place....Had to catch it with Vaperon =_=

Steelix in ranger 1. Because you cant touch it.
Ninjask for honorable mention.
Drapion is the hardest boss in Ranger 2, mainly because you have to capture 5 pokemon right before the battle, & around that time, your has what, 40ish energy?
Regigigas is a close second, each step is 18 damage to you styler, though assist make him easy as a Bidoof.
Metagross spammed shields & lasers like nobody's business. Took multiple tries & took forever. You lose all you assist, thank to that 4 point rotating lazer.
Metagross back in the past gets honorable mention.
Wait a minute...
In ranger two, when catching regice wait ten seconds, then try to capture. Hardest boss ever.

Arceus in the past on Guardian Signs. Period. Nothing else comes close. Everything in Shadows of Almia was a breeze, bar Regigigas, who's simple with a Shieldon. Ranger 1 doesn't really register when you've completed every battle in it without Assists (as I have. Well, apart from that durn Mew, and Suicune. But meh). And everything in the main story of Guardian Signs was simple as well, thanks to Pichu, who's immune to being damaged for some reason. Then you go to the past. Feraligatr is nasty, Dusknoir is ridiculous, and then there's Arceus... My friend and I finally managed to get him with 7 seconds left. And we were both Lv.58+.

First: Charizard, second round (I haven't gotten past that - the only Pokémon game I haven't beaten!)
Second: Garchomp, scyther, scizor, GOLBAT, skorupi, staravia, and all the others that charge or follow or attack, but Gligar beats them all tenfold.
Third: They were all too easy. (Which tells you I haven't yet done all the past missions.)
Wait, wait, wait. I need to edit this.
Second... ANYTHING in the Capture arena, Togekiss, Garchomp (attacks for ten points of damage and hard to avoid), and GLIGAR.
I am seriously disliking Gligar. Gligar is awful. Next time, I'm taking Snover. >:(

First Ranger game, Steelix, by far. I even powered up with Dark, which doubles the length of the line, and that was still the hardest thing I had ever done. Eventually I had to use an Action Replay, and that still took 5 tries, dang it.

Rampardos in the second game really annoyed me so much that I stopped playing for a while. After that, my boyfriend just did the hard pokémon with me, finishing with Darkrai ^^; need to replay it again and do stuff for myself XD

I know most of you hated Steelix, but he actually wasn't that bad. All you had to do was use a fighting assist which makes it SO MUCH EASIER! (I think you only have to do 5 loops with it on) Aside from that, Entei and the Beasts in general were annoying. I don't know how you beat them without powers.

My god, Ranger 1 was just full of these:
1. CHARIZARD (both times)
2. STEELIX
3. MR. MIME.
4. On a much lesser extent, Billy's Tyranitar, Pupitar and Larvitar. Nice music.
The list goes on and on...
Ranger 2... Am I the only person who found Drapion easy? Cresselia and Heatran were MUCH tougher for me.
Ranger 3 was a joke. I'm not mentioning any because there is no need.

Entei in the first ranger game. I remember what I was thinking when I was trying to capture him. I was thinking he needed to die. XD

Well, I didn't get too far in Ranger...but in my experience, Steelix. How are you supposed to circle that thing even ONCE, much less 7 times in a row?!

In the three games:
Ranger 1: Charizard, the first time. Funny enough, I didn't have a problem with him second time round, strangely. Steelix is hard until you finally get a moment to strike, and the final three story mode bosses are hard if Plusle/Minun aren't at the ready and you don't know, for example, that you have to circle Entei to get rid of the flames surrounding it.
Oh, and Billy's Tyranitar, Pupitar and Larvitar battle. Luckily the music's good.
Ranger 2: Drapion. It's the only boss I had problems with. Luckily it was on my favourite part of the game. I didn't play post-story of Shadows of Almia because I lost interest in it, so I don't know of any more bosses. I do wish I could play Liberate the Tower!, but it's sadly gone now and there's no good footage of it on YouTube that's not in Japanese.
Ranger 3: From the story mode, Metagross and its laser spamming. However, it can't even come CLOSE to Arceus in the past missions. That thing is INSANE.

Easily the hardest Pokemon I had to get was the Charizard in the first game, especially after you lose to it once and no longer have your partner Pokemon. At that point it becomes beyond insanely difficuly to circle it the correct number of times without it attacking or breaking your line. Arceus in the last Ranger game is a pretty close second, but I've only faced it with 2 or more people so 1v1 it's probably harder.

Beedrill was too annoying in Ranger 2!

Salamence. That thing nearly drove me insane. Eventually I had actually caught it. But I forgot to save, took on Charizard (also a total struggle) and failed. When I realize I hadn't saved, it was hard for me to suppress my pure rage and anger at myself for not saving. It also was hard because it was the middle of the night.
In Ranger 2, I have to say Drapion. That thing held a barricade on my progress in Almia. It was so infuriating! In fact, it might just be the reason my DS has a really floppy top screen.
In Ranger 3, I haven't seen Arceus in the past yet (but I still have the event in the present) because I'm stuck at that Weavile in the Ice Temple. So hard with infuriating speed, even when I have a Blaziken partner.

Charizard, Rayquaza, and Steelix. The 2 because they were long and Charizard just because of its flames the killed me almost everytime. But Entai wasnt that far behind them. With the flames in the ground every second of the fight x:

I slided through the second and third games with ease, but that first game... I still haven't beaten it and it's been out since, what, 2007?
I have no idea how I did, but like on my fourth try I managed to beat Steelix but those Mr Mimes back in that factory, gosh! They are just so difficult! I've actually got two versions of the first game (for some reason, my first one I'm playing a a girl and the second I'm a boy), and on the boy one I can't get past those Mr Mimes, while I somehow did it on my girl one.
I'm currently on the hardest part on any game ever on the girl one, the Team Go-Rock Squad base, those damn red lights...

Yeah, those Mr. Mime were impossible, I was so happy they were replaced by Gastly later on though.
That Steelix was impossible too. The Red lights were hard at first, but there's a really simple pattern. Justvlook at it for a while and you'll figure it out.
But, the bosses of that mission aren't all too hard... It's the Lastoise/Blaziken combo and the Gen II Starter combo that are pure hell to beat.

I, personally, had the most trouble w/ Purple Eyes' Garchomp... It took me forEVER to beat it the first time playing through. I also have trouble w/ Ho-oh in each playthrough.

Registeel is IMO the hardest Pokemon to 'capture' throughout the series. Those annoying balls just keeps on damaging my styler.

Well, good question.
Froslass. You want to know how long it took me to beat that thing? Weeks. Those Ice Type attacks show no justice.
