Latias? Now I want to know more about this!

3rd February 2011, 11:33 AM
First battle is Brock vs Joy, Chansey vs Sudowoodo, Brock lost.

3rd February 2011, 11:34 AM
I think Joy refused to battle Forrest when Brock said Forrest is the Gym Leader and said that only Flint and Brock are officially the Leaders
So Brock has to battle her to save the Gym from closing, I think... and his Sudowoodo just lost to Chansey

3rd February 2011, 11:34 AM
Nurse Joy has some problem with the gym. Maybe because Steelix isn't actually a rock type?
And Brock loses to Nurse Joy badly.

3rd February 2011, 11:40 AM
Thought it would be chansey, and that brock would lose, attract is a good move. Also, joy wouldn't battle forrest, was it because he was too young to be a gym leader?

What moves did Chansey use?

3rd February 2011, 11:44 AM
As I said, she refused to battle Forrest cause he's not really the Gym Leader (officially only Flint and Brock are)
Brock insisted to save the Gym and let Forrest be the Leader so he had a talk with Joy and she agreed to give them a chance, during that time the other Joy who's a real nurse had some problem and Brock adviced her to use Moo Moo Milk in a case like this, then he talked about wanting to be a doctor... and now it's Forrest's Rhyperior VS Joy's Latias
EDIT: and Forrest lost... now Rhyperior is hurt and Brock asked to get berries and Pokémon food for it... now Joy says Brock will be a good doctor and that Forrest gave her a good battle, so she's ok Forrest being the Gym Leader now

3rd February 2011, 11:46 AM
I'm happy Brock lost, really. If he really couldn't beat a Chansey with his Sudowoodo, I don't think he deserves to be Gym Leader :x

3rd February 2011, 11:47 AM
Not officially, probably because he's too young, i mean Brock did say he could run the gym, but it wasn't fully official, so another nurse joy, so i guess the first one was a PIA, if so, it made sense.

3rd February 2011, 11:48 AM
Latias won. What a battle, Latias was very powerfull, Rhyperior managed to lose even after using Mega Horn and Dig, but the Ice move eliminated him...
Forrest deserves to be a gym leader

cut the guy a little slack, we all know how "crippling" attract can be, plus he's been studing to be a doctor which could've definitely effected his concentration.

3rd February 2011, 11:52 AM
Chansey was powerful, so no-one beat Nurse joy at all, oh well, i still say Forrest isn't a good leader, but whatever.

3rd February 2011, 12:39 PM
Forrest deserves to be a gym leader

From what I read I'm pretty sure he did become one ^_^

cut the guy a little slack, we all know how "crippling" attract can be, plus he's been studing to be a doctor which could've definitely effected his concentration.

Well yeah, and if he wants to be something else, then he definitely shouldn't be a Gym Leader. I'm happy with Brock for losing, because now he can stop being a Gym Leader (officially I guess... since he hasn't been one for years anyway, haha) and do what he really wants to~

3rd February 2011, 12:43 PM
I'm happy Brock lost, really. If he really couldn't beat a Chansey with his Sudowoodo, I don't think he deserves to be Gym Leader :x

How does that make any sense, couldn't beat a Chansey ? whats wrong with it? specially from a Joy with a Latias...

3rd February 2011, 2:30 PM
How does that make any sense, couldn't beat a Chansey ? whats wrong with it? specially from a Joy with a Latias...

I think the reason people are upset is because this is literally the first major non team rocket related battle Brock has been in for a LONG time and he gets thrashed.

3rd February 2011, 3:33 PM
For the record, as soon as I realized the Nurse Joy owned a Latias, I didn't expect either Forrest or Brock to win, regardless of what other Pokemon she might use.

Cut Brock some slack people. I would've loved it if he was given a better send off but really....

3rd February 2011, 4:24 PM
I think the reason people are upset is because this is literally the first major non team rocket related battle Brock has been in for a LONG time and he gets thrashed.

He wasn't upset, he was saying Brock lost to a Chansey, making it seem like Chansey sucked and didn't belong to an extremelly strong trainer who had a Latias.

I was annoyed that thet didn't show all the other of Brock pokemons like they showed Dawn's, y he doesn't have only 6 still it wouldn't hurt to show them, the writers should think a little when doing this kinda of thing though, I would assumed Forrest tunes his pokemon to the challenger in question, if not I feel sorry for the little kids with a starter pokemon getting trashed by Steelix and Rhyperior.

3rd February 2011, 5:24 PM
That Latias would've fainted like 3 times if the battle was in-game>.>

It took too many Megahorns and still survived

3rd February 2011, 5:37 PM
Where can i watch this episode? ~

I want to see this latias myself

3rd February 2011, 6:39 PM
Only saw the pictures but it seemed like an interesting episode from what I saw. I like this one better then Dawn's, probably since I like Brock more.

I don't know if Sudowoodo's gender was confirmed before but if it wasn't it's confirmed male now since Chansey used Attract on it and it worked.

I was hoping to see Brock's Chansey evolved into Blissely but it didn't show up at all.

Corgunk is still trying to prevent Brock from finding love lol.

Brock has three pictures in his room, first one is of him, Ash and Misty, second was of him, Ash, May, and Max, and the last one was of him, Ash, and Dawn. So with that, Ash, Misty, May, and Max all appeared in this episode...on a picture but still. I liked that though, seeing all the past groups and that.

Brock is studying hard and still looking after the his brothers and sisters and all that, tough life for him.

Latias from a Joy...rather random but interesting. I wonder if she and Tobias are related or something...or maybe they are the same person dun dun dun. Lol.

3rd February 2011, 9:38 PM
I'm happy Brock lost, really. If he really couldn't beat a Chansey with his Sudowoodo, I don't think he deserves to be Gym Leader :x

What more did you expect from the former FIRST gym leader of Kanto!!!??

3rd February 2011, 9:56 PM
I like this episode better than Dawn's too, but I've only seen the photos.

Kind of sucked that we didn't get to see the rest of his team though.

4th February 2011, 7:15 AM
Ouch, can't believe the only few battles Brock is in he loses yet again. Brock just cant seem to get a lucky break. What a bad way to yet his character go.

4th February 2011, 5:47 PM
OMG, my nostalgia radar got on when I saw those cool pics of Brock with his friends!

Ash, Misty, May, Max, Dawn... :(

This was a fantastic special episode, we got to know what's going on with Brocky, omg he's studying hard!! Forrest proved he can be a good gym leader, Joy with a Latias o_O she's strong...

The only con is we didn't got to see all of Brock's pokes but it was alright, I'm hoping for more specials for him and that this is not the closure (I want specials for May, Misty and some other people, hey a man can dream! XD)

4th February 2011, 5:50 PM
Aaw no other pokemon? Oh well, I liked Forrest's Rhyperior against that Latias, it was destined to lose against a legendary anyway but it made a good battle. But I was expecting Brock to do better with Suddowoodo

4th February 2011, 10:08 PM
Um. Is it bad that my favorite part of this episode was the scene where we saw the pictures of Brock with all the old cast members? That was the only part of this episode that I enjoyed to be honest. The rest of the episode's plot felt sort of familiar; like I had seen it happen a hundred times before. I liked that Brock battled Nurse Joy, but he went and lost way too easily. Forrest's battle against Nurse Joy was actually far more enjoyable, even if his Rhyperior still lost to Joy's Latias. Speaking of that Joy: I'm wondering if she's related to Tobias, because they both trolled used a member of the Lati line. Anyway, this episode was sort of disappointing, especially after all the hype. 5/10.

5th February 2011, 8:45 AM
....so I think we can all pretty much agree that whole "catch a legendary and the world will end" rule the anime had was pretty much thrown out the window by now?

I have to say that was one mean-spirited Nurse Joy. o_o;;;

"I'll give you one battle chance to prove you guys can have a gym or else I'm shutting it down. Go super legendary Pokemon!"

5th February 2011, 2:07 PM
I finally got to see this episode. The battle between Forrest and the Inv. Joy was great! The parents were really hilarious throughout the whole episode, not to mention the hawaiian cheerleader outfits.

5th February 2011, 2:31 PM
I was disappointed with this special. I was hoping to see more of Brock's old pokemon, like Marshtomp, Geodude (hope these evolved) and the rest, we didn't even see his whole DP team, not even his Chansey appeared.
Other than that, it was alright, I say alright because it was in Japanese and it involved a few speaking scenes which I couldn't relate too (the positive about Dawn's was it was similar to previous episodes so I had an idea of what was going on) However, the battling made up for this, and the epiosde was a nice special. Let's hope the To Be Continued on both of them mean we will have more from these 2.

5th February 2011, 3:23 PM
Copy paste. :surfpika:

- We get an overview of Pewter City and then Brock's house/gym. I always found it funny Brock's house was situated RIGHT BEHIND the gym. We then get a glimpse into Brock studying. That looks pretty boring. Anyway we also get to see photos of all Brock's traveling friends. Which is very nice and it really shows how long Brock was on the show for.
- Something's wrong and we get a pan view to the gym which is missing its ever-changing sign. Forrest is battling with his/Brock's steelix.. but just before the battle starts it is called off. What ever could be the problem?
- Brock's made a big feast for his younger siblings. He then goes into the playroom/bedroom and Sudowoodo/Marill are playing with the youngest siblings. Awww.. sudowoodo.. Forrest's replacement runs in and tells everybody there's a problem.
- I love how all of Brock's siblings line up in age order all the time.
- A mysterious figure lines the doorway, but of course Brock recognises a far and very willingly sprints towards her until he is stopped by the ever-present Croagunk. His siblings poke his lifeless body.
- Brock is overwhelmed by the thought of battling Nurse Joy. The battle starts and LOL at the music. I haven't heard that song for so long. It's really cool they even have it if you think about it considering how they ignored Brock through the series.
- Unfortunately even though Brock is strong he lost pretty bad as Sudowoodo couldn't take the overwhelming beauty of his Chansey opponent.
- Brock's parents comically come in at the wrong time to give all their children presents. Brock seems rather unimpressed.
- Sitting down around the family table Flint describes something that I didn't really understand, but I found it funny.
- Wow Brock, you sure don't half hate your parents. Why so angry? It's funny how he never got this angry around Ash.
- Like father like son.
- A lone eyecatch, with old music! Awesome.
- Brock goes to confront Joy and 'Nurse' Joy runs in and has a problem! Depressing music plays whilst Brock explains how she could fix the Pokemon. PIA Joy realises Brock is good at being a Breeder/Doctor rather than a gym leader. Brock mentions the word Breeder a lot - why?
- Despite having a large house 10 children sleep in the same room together.
- Forrest stands in the place we first ever saw Brock. That's nice.... Brock comforts Forrest about the next day whilst his proud parents overlook their conversation. Then get distracted by each other.
- The battle starts and Brock's parents bring nice cheerleading clothes for everyone but Brock. LOL.
- This battle is obviously a fix because Rhyperior would have won. Three megahorns?
- Rhyperior dies yet Joy still agrees to keep the gym open. If she's going around closing gyms because the gym leaders can't beat her, why on earth does she use a Latias against a gym that is usually battling caterpies.
- Outside Joy says her goodbyes and Brock, Flint, Lola all simultaneously do their thing whilst Forrest is embarrassed.
- Croagunk kills Brock's chance whilst Brock's song comes on again.. O-NE-E-SA-Nnnn~
-That was a nice, uh, final send off for Brock. I guess. Being stabbed in the lower back once again, forever.
- To be continued.

Hmm. Whilst I really did enjoy this episode and it most likely is one of my favourites, IF not my favourite episode, it makes me sad Brock lost so easily! Come on, if you're getting rid of the guy they could have done it in a better light. But I really do enjoy everything with Brock's family and his parents are so funny. I guess I'm glad now Brock is just staying at home, because his siblings obviously mean a lot to him. Though I really don't think this is the end of him. Or atleast I hope it isn't.

I love how Brock seemed a lot more expressive in this special. Something the writers failed to do all of the other time. Like when Brock was angry or just the general physical comic scenes - like when he was jumping up and down at his parents. His character is really fun and episodes like this are great.

It's such a shame we didn't see more of his old pokemon - what was that about! And no Chansey! & we only saw Croagunk for two very short scenes. Oh well, guess that's what his character has become after the Galatic final. It's also weird how they didn't really mention the whole Doctor thing at all apart from in passing.

The music and animation was really fab. Especially the vocal song. I much preferred this to the Dawn special as it was funnier, better battles and etc.

And so it ends..

Glad you finally saw it BubbleWrap, saw your posts on SatoshiBW's youtube channel.

I just saw the episode. It was pretty good but wasn't terrible interesting either. The Nurse Joy with the Latias ticked me and I normally like Nurse Joy's but this one was cheap with her Latias, all legendary Pokemon are uber in the anime. I mean it's lame when a character uses a legendary Pokemon just to win a match and then leaves and never returns. That's why I never minded when Brenden of the Battle frontier used the Regi's because he appeared more then once and gave rematches to avenge the losses, but just coming out of the blue and using legendaries to kill your opponent then take off? Lame. I liked Forrest and Rhyperior and Brock's entire family for that matter so this one was better then the Dawn special, but it still felt very lacking to me. It also sucks that Brock also lost after finally getting a battle for so long, poor guy, but Nurse Joy's and there Chansey's are tough. Overall a pretty good episode and I enjoyed seeing Brock's photo's of his friend's, it show's while he didn't have the best interactions with all of them he still has memories of them, except for poor neglected Tracey. Tracey need's a special now. Anyway good job on the Brock special.

Hm... the second appearance of the League Inspectors (or 3rd if the Showdown in Dark City involved one.)... they always come when one of our old friends leaves the party. Ok, so they only appeared once before (barring SiDC), but still, that was when Misty left the party, so the point stands.

First Darkrai & co., now Latias. Granted, the inspector battled Brock with her Chansey, but still, uber much?

You know, this makes me want another Inspector appearance at the Cascade Gym with the inspector challenging Misty on the grounds that Misty is too harsh! I mean, we see badges as things to be earned in battle, but then just powering through becomes a viable strategy. What is taught by that? Conversely, what lessons are taught when the GL himself overpowers all foes? (This question is what likely triggered Volkner's Heroic BSOD.)

(This is not to say that I don't want to see May or Tracey in specials, though the latter can just jump around between Brock, Misty, and Oak/Delia. Max is covered on my post in the Dawn Special topic. Heck, I'd like Gary to meet, if not May, then at least Drew in Sinnoh.)

On another topic: granted, Flint & Lola are more flighty than Misty's sisters (at least Daisy, jury is still out on the middle two,) but still: Pot, Kettle. Kettle, Pot.

At least this class change seems to stick (unlike Dawn's).

5th February 2011, 9:27 PM
After seeing how Forrest's Rhyperior did some serious damage to Latias, I think it's safe to say that there will be absolutely no new trainers in the Kanto League this year. I mean seriously, how is a Bulbasaur supposed to beat that thing?!

6th February 2011, 2:09 AM
they'll have to skip the gym for others and come back later for this one lol.
like in hoen (norman)
1st gym with steelix and rhyperior... he'd beat the snot out of Giovanni.

6th February 2011, 11:36 AM
The battle between Forrest and PIA Joy was really great. Rypherior was awesome with how he caught that Dragon Pulse and smashed it on the floor.

7th February 2011, 1:57 AM
This post is fashionably late. Deal with it.

-Aww, Brock has group photos of the trios(& quartet) he's been in. And the DP one features a hilariously D8 Piplup.
-You know Brock's book is complicated because it has vaguely molecule-ish things on the cover.
-Sorry Brock, but your food porn just can't compete with Dento's.
-I love how all of Brock's siblings prove that nobody ever ages in this anime.
-Of course Brock can immediately tell who Joy is. Now where the hell is Croagunk?
-There we go.
-Ahahaha, all of Brock's siblings are totally confused about what just happened.
-You know...why is it the JOYS who inspect gyms? You'd think the Jennies would be a better fit.
-And Steelix has been standing in place that entire time, apparently not caring.
-Brock seems to have stolen some of Dento's sparkles!
-Apparently Forrest isn't officially a Leader? You'd think Brock would have had the foresight to handle that a couple of sagas ago.
-The battle begins, and...TAKESHI NO PARADISE? What?
-Joy sends out a Chansey. Come on Brock, use a physical attack! ANY physical attack! Bam, instant victory!
-Oh snap, Minimize and Attract!
-The use of Takeshi no Paradise is ruining any ability I had to take this battle seriously. I know the writers are using this as a send-off for Brock, and this is the only theme song he has, but still.
-Haha, the kids are commenting on how Sudowoodo is now into Chansey just like how Brock is into Joy. Or something like that.
-Sudowoodo tries to use flail, but an Egg Bomb thwarts that plan. That's what Brock gets for not battling since...uh...er....um...
-Enter the parents! (in matching hawaiian shirts, no less)
-I just realized that Brock's mom has very Kenny-like hair.
-...did...did Flint seriously get distracted by a shiny rock while he was delivering Forrest's leader registration forms?
-And then the registration stuff blew away and Flint didn't care. Why was this man ever given responsibility for anything, again?
-Brock is rightfully pissed about this.
-Aw, Brock and Croagunk are all alone in the eyecatch.
-Wait, the Nurse Joy and the Inspector Joy are different but operating out of the same building? That's needlessly confusing!
-I'm not entirely sure, but I think that Nurse Joy is explaining to Inspector Joy that Brock has been going around as a breeder(and now is training to be a Pokemon doctor)? And Brock's using that as an excuse for why he's not a very good battler anymore? But Inspector Joy had already given the Gym a second chance...I'm so confused right now.
-Blah blah nighttime scene where Forrest is nervous and Brock tells him not to worry blah blah.
-...you know, the Gym building used to have NIBI GYM/PEWTER GYM(depending on whether you watched the original or the dub) on it. But it doesn't anymore. Odd, considering that they managed to remember every other part of the Gym's design. (or maybe it was on purpose, so that the dubbers would have less to edit)
-OH MY ****ING GOD I LOVE BROCK'S PARENTS. They just dressed up themselves and all of their children(except for Brock) in stereotypical Hawaiian outfits & cheerleading pom-poms.
-A little kid as the judge and another little kid as the leader. Man, this is like the littlest, more adorablest Pokemon gym ever.
-Forrest sends out Rhyperior, Joy sends out Latias. Where did she even get that thing?
-Forrest both knows the type of a mythical Pokemon almost nobody has seen AND has exactly the move to counter it. Also he's, like, 8. Goddamn, son.
-I love how this battle is just Forrest spamming Megahorn(and Dig when he needs to evade something), and he's doing really well. It's just like the games!
-Forrest loses, but considering that he was up against a goddamned legendary Pokemon...
-...Joy lets Forrest keep the gym open!
-Of course Brock has to get off one last horndog moment before the episode ends. Of course.
-Croagunk jabs him, of course, and right on cue, the music changes to... Takeshi no Paradise? Oh well, that's as good a way to end the episode as any.

Not an awe-inspiring episode by any means. But it's meant to be Brock's sendoff from the show, and it's pretty decent by that standard.

After seeing how Forrest's Rhyperior did some serious damage to Latias, I think it's safe to say that there will be absolutely no new trainers in the Kanto League this year. I mean seriously, how is a Bulbasaur supposed to beat that thing?!
I'm pretty sure that GLs in the anime have various Pokemon they can use against trainers of varying skill levels. We saw that with Aloe a couple eps ago - she switched from using Yorterrie to Harderrier when she saw that Ash had gotten stronger.

7th February 2011, 10:17 PM
Cool episode, I enjoyed the battle between Rhyperior and Latias.

And by the way, this was the first episode ever where a Pokémon used Minimize. ;113;

7th February 2011, 11:07 PM
It's such a shame Brock was so fail at battling in this episode. It's almost like they wanted his loss to be comical, with the music and all. Not fair! He's always been pretty strong and it's a shame for him to be made the fall guy on an episode based on him.

8th February 2011, 12:04 AM
Eh, Brock's never really been about battling anyway, so its not a big deal.

When was the last time Brock was in a real battle before this, not counting when he used Sudowoodo against Meowth in DP191? I think his last real battle was in that Cherubi girl episode back at Snowpoint city...

27th February 2011, 7:15 PM
Brock's marshtomp should have evolved... Brock got ripped off by the writers...

Why Brock why on Earth would you entrust something so important to your father?
Excellent episode, I like the family dynamics with Brock's entire family it really brings home the importance of the Pewter Gym. Forest did an excellent job at battling Joy, nice to see that the gym is in good hands.

I don`t think this is in english yet if that`s what you want.

"I'll give you one battle chance to prove you guys can have a gym or else I'm shutting it down. Go super legendary Pokemon!"

That is indeed unfair. Then they can close down every gym...

Aside from that, enjoyable episode and nice storyline, and nice to see Forrest getting some time on screen and nice to see him battle. I hope this won't be Brocks last episode ever, I hate Cilan, Brock is better! I hope Brock will return someday, as a recurring character, or even better, as a main character (but I know that won't happen).

This special was awsome and funny! It makes me miss Brock though and it's too bad they didn't show Brock's other Pokemon.

What I was most displeased at was Nurse Joy and her Latias.

Seriously, just coming off Takuto and his Latios, they must love them some Lati@s, them animators.

She used Chansey skillfully enough, I'm sure a Dragonite or other dragon non-legend would have worked better.

Also, WTF on Brock's brother with the Rhyperion, yet Brock's pokemon save for 3-4, never evolved/ were neglected.

3rd April 2012, 2:54 AM
What the hell did I just watch? I don't get this about Brock's crazy family again. Was there a need for the legendaries to make the show more interesting or what? And giving them to a Nurse! Was there no one else? I mean absolutely no one else? It would have been better to have Tobais show up to do that then to.........You know what, nevermind. They might as well as shut it down. We all know that something else bad would happen to it by the time Brock gets back if that kid or his retarded parents can't keep it up.

14th May 2012, 11:53 PM
Absoulutely ridiculous side-episode... I mean Latias for Nurse Joy... WTF?

Nibi Gym - The Greatest Crisis Ever!

Good Points:
Takeshi's pictures with his past traveling companions, gotta love that.
Jiro and Joi's battle was actually pretty good, Jiro is a beast to almost beat a Latias. Not to mention it scored several direct hits against Latias and he used Megahorn due to the super-effective power of it. The fact he managed to cause more damage and his attacks were more effective than Pikachu's against Latios, coupled with the fact he's one of the few characters in this series who can go toe to toe with a Legendary makes me view him as one of the stronger Kanto leaders.
I guess Takeshi's parents were good, tbh, I don't really care about solely comedic actions.
Takeshi's Paradise and the animation were just beautiful ;__;

Usokkie VS. Lucky, sure it was comedy. It was refreshing to see a move like Minimize and Mero-mero not being overpowered. I definitely think the battle should have been much longer, DoubleSlap really ate away that much of Usokkie's health for Takeshi to say that ._. and Flail looked very pathetic compared to when it was used against Muskippa when it evolved? ._. It's one of my favorites of the DP Pokemon so it kinda sucked it went down so easily to Egg Bomb and DoubleSlap.

The siblings managed to be entertaining especially when they connected Usokkie's infatuation to Takeshi's own behavior.

Bad Points:

More Gureggru and Lucky please, especially the latter given I feel she was an integral part in Takeshi choosing to be a Pokemon Doctor.

*Even though we've seen the "Nibi Gym in peril." plot before, I was pretty engrossed with Takeshi's Special from start to finish. I think him not doing relatively anything in DP for the later half makes you appreciate him more in this episode.

Overall, neither Takeshi nor Hikari are terribly interesting enough to carry a Special on their own, at least in Hikari's case. But overall I'd say the Takeshi Special was great and the Hikari one was average.

1st June 2013, 2:27 AM
I'm sure that this will be dubbed...

19th May 2014, 11:10 PM
Unexpected Joy san become an inspector and she actually owns a Latias! Takeshi's parents are quite irresponsible in my opinion because they think of setting up another business if the gym really shut down rather than trying to save the gym. Fortunately Nibi gym can still continue to run.

7th June 2016, 4:48 AM
Joy owning a Latias was such a troll move as if Tobias owning Latios wasn't enough. Forrest still did well with Rhyperior though so I was proud of his skills. 7/10

I liked how Brock kept photos of his friends, plus I liked when nurse Joy's Chansey slapped Brock's Sudowoodo ha ha. I was glad to see the gym back to normal as well and nurse Joy owning a Latias shocked me.

Unexpected Joy san become an inspector and she actually owns a Latias!

Actually, we had seen Joy inspect Gyms in the past, so her role here wasn't such a surprise. Why she owned a Latias is another story though. It seemed like overkill...
