Some of the threads I come across are standard threads (with the standard thread mark and a pale yellow briefcase for new posts) and some are 'hot' threads (same mark as a normal thread but has lines above it, and a red briefcase for new posts). What's the definition of a hot thread, and what is the difference between that and standard threads?

They also become hot threads based on a number of views; as stickied threads with zero replies are hot threads; but I can't determine that from observation. I image a quick search of the net would have the answers.

But I've seen a hot thread with 18 replies!

I think if a thread also has <150 views, it is also considered "hot". But I'm not totally sure.

Yes, that's why I said:
"They also become hot threads based on a number of views; as stickied threads with zero replies are hot threads;"
Thanks for reading.
