Interesting article about numbers in pokemon. (http://bulbanews.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Crunching_the_numbers) Go down to the time calculations part; it has some interesting calculations on your true chances on finding a shiny pokemon normally. Makes a good arguement for RNG abuse.

And I grabbed 1,000th post...

Ok i need help, i restarted my game so i could get a shiny starter but i cant seem to get it to work.
I found a flawless seed on my game, i then put this into rng reporters main window like i normally would but changed ecounter method to gift pokemon, I found a frame that i wanted (49), so then i went into pandoras box and pasted the seed and chose frame as 49.
it gave me a list of results all with initial frame 28, the first shiny was on 31 with trainer ID 54418 and starter was true, i hit the seed ,did 3 advances by saying no to my name then when i got my tepig it wasnt shiny. but i had the correct trainer id.
What have i done wrong here?

Saying no to your name only advances the RNG for ID/SID. You have to save to advance the RNG for your starter.

Im not sure exactly what that means, accept by saying no i advanced my rng for id not for starter, but i thought getting that id would get me a shiny starter.
If not how many times do i have to save to get one then?

You really should just wait to breed the starter.

RNGing for an ID/SID and RNGing for a starter are separate things. You're supposed to get the ID/SID, save in front of the starters and then hit your seed/frame for the starter like you would normally do for any other Pokemon.
You said the shiny frame is 49 so "Calculate initial PIDRNG Frame" and advance to frame 49 via saving.

Oh boys, I'm back. With good news, relax... :D

Thanks for the video Jolteon, it showed me exactly what I was doing wrong, along with re-reading the guide I was using. I'm such an idiot :3
Today, I just got my self a Timid Larvesta, Male, with 31/11/31/30/31/31; HP Electric 70. Not shiny, but that's how I wanted it.

Thanks loads guys. Very happy with the results ;)

Can anybody explain to me: 1. How to find your starting frame when you hatch an Egg, using PPRNG, 2. How to advance said frame, and 3. how to find your SID?

Which version of PPRNG are you using? PPRNG2 or the new 1.5?

For your SID, most efficient way is to use pokecheck (http://www.pokecheck.org/) or, unfortunately, an AR.

No, because you can change your date by yourself for any reason. People do it all the time for stuff like battle area rematches.

★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★

I now have a couple of Zoruark wondercards from the current event. However I can't find any info on RNGing wondercards. I'm guessing I search for a wondercard seed, go to the pokemon centre near the elite four and collect it. What IV frame should I be looking for? Can I just look for an IV frame 1 seed like with egg RNGing?

I've been looking, and found:
BW RNG Manipulation Guide Part 6 - Receiving Perfect Wondercard Pokemon
By Kaphotics.
http://www.smogon.com/ingame/rng/bw_rng_part6

This explains a lot, but I still don't know if the wonder card Zoruark is inevitably non-shiny. Apparently its nature is fixed, and I expect shininess or lack of is fixed too.

Hmm, doesn't sound too hard. This will be great for future reference, since sooner or later we're going to get some Wondercard events. Thanks!

And I didn't realize Smogon's been updating their articles. About time.

It is impossible to get a shiny Mystery Gift Pokemon unless it's coded to be so.

And no, RNGing them isn't actually hard at all.

Keep trying. I recommend RNGing the Ditto first, only takes a few minutes, and chain breeding your pokemon with it until you have a good RNGing parent. You can easily get three perfect random stats in half an hour. Then searching for a seed is quick it only takes a few minutes to breed a good shiny.

I don't like using Ditto cause it usually takes forever to get the egg lol. I had two good parents. The mother was flawless and the father was 31/28/31/31/31/31.

A nice couple. ;)

You are right that Dittos can make it take longer. l I found this on http://www.legendarypokemon.net/breeding (Legendary Pokemon):

Same species, different ID numbers
The chance of getting an egg is 69,3%.

Same species, same ID numbers
The chance of getting an egg is 49,5%.

Different species, different ID numbers
The chance of getting an egg is 49,5%.

Different species, same ID numbers
The chance of getting an egg is 19,8%.

That, of course, is the chance of getting an egg after the species-specific number of steps has been made.

I RNG my Dittos in White and breed in Black, so it's no slower than using same-species parents from the same game.

I seriously don't think I can be any closer to absolutely throwing my DS through a wall. I've been trying for what feels like forever to get this right. I have YET to find a SINGLE SHINY EGG. I've watched the vids, done the guides, done everything. BUt everytime I'm off by like two frames at best. I literally have no idea what I'm doing wrong.

If you are doing something wrong and you post screenshots of your searches and describe exactly what you're doing, someone here might be able to help.

If you are doing nothing wrong and really are hitting close to your seed, you just need to adjust your chatters accordingly and keep trying.

Do I need to set up my parameters again since I'm on a new computer? Or do I just need to get seeds since I've set them up before? Because if I need to set up my parameters again, I just did, and my Timer0 said C7D. Is that good? Sorry for all of the questions...

You just need to copy your old parameters into the parameter set-up on Reporter on your new computer. There's no need to search for them again if they were working.

Your Timer0 will be exactly what it was before if both parameter searches were done correctly. When finding your parameters it's advisable to try half a dozen times, to find out which is your most common Timer0 value. Whether or not finding a Timer0 of C7D is good depends on whether or not it's correct.

Yes it does...It tells you "calculate initial PIDRNG Frame" using the Wondercard (5th gen) method and then from there it's simply PIDRNG manipulation.

So, based on the advice of Kailassa I have decided to do several things. I will post screenies of my searches and everything and then I will describe my process in detail so SOMEONE can ascertain the problem. Firstly!

3112Ok, so as is plainly obvious I have done a very simple search for just three 31 stats with NO keypresses, just to prove a point, either to you or myself, I'm not yet sure. However, if anyone sees any problems with this then I am clearly retarded.

Now, when I actually get the seed and plug it into the RNG Reporter, under Breeding B/W international, ( I have a Japanese Ditto) I plug in that I have a Ditto Parent and generate the seed, calculate the initial and all that fun jazz. Once I find my seed I open my DS, reset my clock timer and hit my seed. I am pretty reliable at hitting my seeds so it's not a huge deal. I turn c-gear off and all the basic stuff. So, having saved in front of the egg man, I mash the menu button as the season display is passing. I chatter with my Chatot once so I can get my SSF, and then move out of that, MASHING the A button so I can get the egg without the NPC's moving. I run around with him for a bit and check his Nature and Ability. Now, after I've found my SSF, and finding how many chatters I need, I do the same thing again, resetting my DS and doing the same process.

HOWEVER, no matter how hard I try I NEVER get the frames right. It's absolutely positively infuriating.

Are you assuming that the IVs shown in the shiny egg tab are your seed IVs? That's a common mistake. The IVs shown in the shiny egg tab are only your IVs for 1 particular PID frame. To find your seed IVs you need to choose method 5 (standard seed) and look at frame 8. video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYCr1U-Cxpg)

And make sure that SSF is exactly the same as the one on your window. Such as (gender, Nature, IVs, Ability, Shiny) because you might be looking a totally wrong seed when you're finding that SSF.

Ok, post the seed and post the info of the hatched Pokemon you used to find your SSF.

Next time after you get the egg fly to victory road and sweet scent/catch something. Check the IVs of the caught Pokemon and see if they match IV frame 14 or 14+Z where Z is the number of Pokemon in your party. If they match we know you're hitting your seed

I'm having issues breeding. I'm doing everything correctly. I've only managed to hatch 2 shiny pokes out of 94124 tries. Right now I'm trying to do get a shiny Charmander. Here's all the details.
Mother: Charmander Jolly 31/31/31/8/31/31
Father: Charmander Adamant 30/31/31/31/31/31 Holding everstone.

TID: 29366 SID: 6763 (Yes they're set by closing out and opening RNG reporter already)
The seed I'm going for is F4DB2E12B34A306D

I'm saved in front of the day care man with an egg and bring up the menu when I start the game and do one Chatot chatter and hatch the egg. Then I check nature and if it's M/F and then flip through the list and find my SSF. Then redo everything just like before and do the correct amount of chatters and pick up the egg. Hatch it and it's not shiny.
I know I should be hitting my seed cause I've hatched 2 shinies before but I didn't try to get certain IVs.

Do you know how to manipulate the PIDRNG? If not go learn that first. RNGing a wonder card Pokemon is like an easier version of egg RNGing.
Go to a Pokemon center with no WNPCs (Undella or the E4), save in front of the man in the Pokemon center, hit seed, take the Pokemon, check it's IVs, look at the PID frames and find the frame with matching IVs. That's your starting frame. Now that you know your starting frame, turn off the game, redo it and advance to your target frame via Chatot flips or saving.

I have but how in the world are you supposed to figure out your starting frame? I thinking about ditching the everstone and since it'd be easier to figure out the starting frame.
"Calculate initial PIDRNG Frame" is almost always correct. It's NPCs that are throwing you off and dealing with them is simple. Mash X to bring up the menu as the season message fades, exit the menu without doing any PID advances and grab the egg quickly (Mash A). Hatch it and find the frame that matches your egg. It should be a little after your "Calculated initial PIDRNG frame." The matching frame is your starting frame so use it to figure out how many Chatot flips you need to do then reset and redo it with the correct amount of Chatot flips.

If you're not using international parents everstone shouldn't give you any problems. Just do this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYCr1U-Cxpg) to make RNG reporter display characteristics.

Are you sure you have that zero included in your SID? - It's vital.

Have you learned the %6 method of correlating PIDs to characteristics, to help locate which frame you've hit?

Which method are you using to search for your seed?

How far past your starting frame are you landing? I'm not fast at pressing buttons, but for me it's still usually only 4 frames after. Some posters do it fast enough that the WNPCs only advance it one or two frames. So you should be looking no more than half a dozen frames ahead.

(@)~(@)~(@)~(@)~(@)~(@)~(@)~(@)~(@)~(@)~(@)~(@)~(@ )

I'm still working up to the frightningest RNGing project of all, - imitating Stud's great feat of catching a shiny djinn.

I've searched 12 years, a month at a time, (a desktop timer is invaluable seeing Reporter doesn't "ding" when a search finishes and only does a month at a time,) and have a prettily set out Excel page showing lots of frame 1 possibilities. ... No perfect Timids amongst them though.

Which seasons are best for catching Tornadus/Thundurus and what sort of advancements is the weather likely to produce in each?

EDIT: Drain Punch is rewarded for defeating Maylene. I'll have to trade from SS. Damn, Black and White are so limiting in some ways.

Ah I have done that with a Litwick I was trying to teach it heatwave but taught it to a female Slugma

Hey, guys. Haven't been too active lately, both on here and with my projects. I'm still looking forward to getting that shiny flawless ditto, but I haven't found any seeds yet. :S If I were to change the IV Frame to be more than 1, how would I do so? I believe I saw someone say once that moving messes up the PID Frame.

You would have to account for how many times you took a step and how many turns you made which is harder but possible. And you would need a high enough PID frame to make it to the IV frame you're reaching for

Which seasons are best for catching Tornadus/Thundurus and what sort of advancements is the weather likely to produce in each?

Any season where there's no weather on route 7 (no rain/snow before the roamer arrives). I know Summer works.
The advancement is not consistent for roamers. By this I mean 10 views of Chatot's summary does not necessarily put you 10 PID frames higher. You'll have to check the list of PID frames to figure out where you are.
When you're trying to find your starting frame you should do your advancements in 10s. Do 0, 10, 20 etc until you have enough natures/characteristics to find your starting frame. In summer your starting frame will probably be high 400s/low 500s if there's no season change when you exit the house. If there is a season change it will probably be mid 500s to low 600s.

Thanks, Jolteon. I've got a nice timid seed for Autumn, I'll have to check that month out. Spring is rainy when I go to that route. If I want a near perfect shiny in Summer, it will have to be modest from the looks of things. - And that's after 18 years of searches. (IV Frame 1, PID frame<1000, 3 key-presses.) I'm thinking higher frames might make it too difficult.

What do you think? Would walking to and fro in the house to (primarily) advance the IV frame be feasible?

need some help with an RNG project

Im shooting for a timid 31/30/31/30/31/30 (HP Fire) Magnemite w/ magnet pull. I need to hit frame 211 to get the right IVs and nature. My parents are a flawless JP ditto 31/31/31/31/31/31 and a near flawless Magnemite 31/30/31/30/31/15 (and 211 is still the lowest frame i can find!!!! thats not right) any way, i hit my seed and i get to frame 211 the magnemite is beautiful. its shiny, timid, has magnet pull but just one problem, HP water :/ i havent checked the exact IVs yet, but it should b fire. Im useing an everstone and there are 2 timid natures right next to each other, so i try again and hit the next frame, HP Ground :/ i know im hitting my seed b/c i did it a third time and i got a shiny careful magnemite which is next on the list after the two timid ones. The only thing i dont understand is why the IVs are not what RNG reporter say they should be. I have hit every timid natured magnemite close to frame 211 and i get HP water, ground, and electric (i think the last 1 is electric i dont remember exactly) but still no fire. can anyone help me figure out whats going wrong here. I know im hitting my seed, but why are the IVs different?

my own though is b/c magnemite is genderless so the RNG reporter might be confused as to which parent passes down which IVs. I have magnemite as the mother and Ditto as the father, but does this matter at all? Should ditto be labeled the mother so that RNG reporter gives me the right inheritence? any help would be greatly appreciated :)

@dewey911p - Ditto is always the mother when breeding with genderless pokemon so you have the option for egg moves from the "genderless father". Swap the IVs and you should get the poke you're trying for.

A genderless parent mated with a Ditto is always classed as male. This allows them to pass down egg moves. Yes, it does matter which is which.

It's doable, yes, but you will find it very annoying especially if you have timer0 issues. Imagine doing a bunch of steps only to find out that you didn't hit the right timer0. :|

Ok, so i got my event Zoroark, but im not sure how to RNG it. ive only RNGed eggs and 1 wild pokemon (i still have trouble advancing the frames :/) so how do i go about RNGing this event?

I assume the first thing you do is select 5th gen Wondercard in RNG reporter (for the method) then hit time finder. next you would put in the IVs you want (flawless in my case) and select 5th gen wondercard again and set a range for your frame. I did all of this and im lucky enough to find a flawless seed on frame 1 right away. so all i have to do is loaad the game at the right time just like any other RNG right? Since this event cannot be shiny and since it has a set nature, all i have to worry about are the IVs right? Well anyway, i tried this methid and i cant seem to nail it. the Timer0 is C7E and i think C7F is my more common Timer0. So is that the only issue then? do i just need to find another seed with a Timer0 of C7F? any help would be greatly appreciated :D

P.S. while were on the subject, can someone give me a quick run down on how to advance frames. I know that you need to walk 128 steps with x # of pokemon to advance the frame by x (4 pokemon in the party @ 128 steps advances the frame by 4 if i understand right) but does it differ depending upon the location? For example, is there a difference ebetween 128 steps on land vs in grass or surfing or in a building or even a sandstorm. Also, im right to assume that the starting frame is 1 right? I know that when abusing for nature and shinyness the PID frame never starts at 1 (but thats easy to advance) but the starting frame for an egg (just about the only thing ive RNGed) is 8 and i know this is b/c takeing the egg advances the frame by 7. also, when u turn and take a step, is that 1 step or 2 and if u battle a pokemon does that affect ur frame progression any? sorry for so many questions but thanks for any help you can give :)

TDawg
20th September 2011, 5:57 AM
Okay I am pretty sure you'll have to advance your PID frame which you will want at least one chatot for. and turns advance 2 frames. And a battle will progress the PID uncontrollably (I think it's like 120 PID a second in the battle). This is key to advance the PID frame. As for a place to take the gift pick a pokemon center with no NPCs. Not sure which are but it shouldn't be that hard to figure out. Otherwise I am pretty sure a wondecard plays out just like an egg so do what you would normally do with an egg. If I am wrong anyone can correct me though as I haven't RNGd a card yet.

I did all of this and im lucky enough to find a flawless seed on frame 1 right away.
You need a frame 55+. Wondercard are completely PIDRNG-based so your starting frame (for IVs and everything) will be approximately RNG reporter's "Calculated Initial PIDRNG Frame."

Yes yes yes! To advance the IV frame you would have to walk, and the notorious gangs of wandering NPCs of Route 3 will mean you will have zero control of the shininess, nature, and most of the stats of your hatchling. IV frame 8 is the only frame that should be used.

Why are you using frame 8? It's not an egg. The starting frame is your "Calculated initial PIDRNG Frame." There's no IV Frame, you're just manipulating the PIDRNG.

PID Frames usually start between 40-60 which is why the smogon guide says to search 55+ for the frame.

EDIT: Min Frame=55, Max Frame=whatever you want. Proceed from there.

You didn't misread.

Most of us here are both learning and trying to help others at the same time, so some answers can be a bit confused. Jolteon has mastered this stuff, and really knows what he's talking about.

There's a page here (http://www.smogon.com/ingame/rng/bw_rng_part6) on RNGing Wonder Cards you might like to check out. It's by Kaphotics, another accomplished RNGer and teacher.

I got the impression, reading your questions, you still don't fully understand the two RNGs, the IV-RNG and the PID-RNG, and the different ways to manipulate each.

To take it back to basics, in gen 5 there is one random number generator for deciding the IVs, the IV-RNG, and another for deciding everything else, the PID-RNG.

Advancing the IV frame is usually done by walking/turning. This also advances the PID frame to an extent which varies depending on many factors. The difficulty in working out exactly how much this has advanced your PID frame is why beginners are advised to use seeds for captures with an IV frame of 1.

Advancing the PID fame is done by saving, or by flipping the summaries of Chatots on which you have recorded a custom chatter.

You asked about sandstorms. You never RNG in a sandstorm. It advances the frame ridiculously. Nor in fog, which prevents you sweet scenting. You get rid of either of these by entering the area, saving, soft resetting, turning your DS's time back a month, re-entering the game and engaging in any random battle. Then save, turn off, enter the time for your seed and get back into the game again. You will have to repeat this for each saved capture you do in the area.

You don't have to worry about the IV frame for RNGing a wonder card pokemon. Where you can choose a range for frames, that's for the PID frame. The minimum needs to high enough so you still have a positive number after subtracting the initial starting frame from it, and the max depends on how many chatters you are prepared to do to advance the frame. As this pokemon cannot be shiny and has a fixed nature, there's no point in putting in a high max.

Do you already understand how to find the initial starting frame?

You will have to repeat this for each saved capture you do in the area.

you were dead on, i was confused between IV-RNGing and PIDRNGing. i thought that the frame under the capture tab was strictly for IV RNGing and the PIDRGing was done under the egg tab :/ but i understand now and i got my flawless event Zoroark in less then 5 min (only missed the frame once). It was so easy and thank you guys. my god i made it more complicated then what it was tho :P

Wait, what? Did I inspire you to that?
That was unexpected. Glad you like it though, even if the idea isn't originally mine. I feel that having everything at a single place makes things much easier to keep track off, which is why I chose to do it after all.
Also, good job on the Terrakion. I want one too... though I am at least able to get one of my own soon.

And I just got this:

Not done anything in Black since last time, but I have planned to do some things during the weekend.

RNGing does not change the types of pokemon available in the game or allow you to get event pokemon which would be otherwise unavailable to you.

Your ID (a.k.a. TID - Trainer ID) can be found on your trainer card or on a captured Pokémon's summary.

To find your SID, you can use an AR to find it, otherwise you can use http://www.pokecheck.org. All you need to do is make an account on there and follow the instructions.

Need help with RNG in DPPt. PM you're skype or if you want to meet in Ventrilo or talk in IRC. Will make it worth your while ~$

THIS IS FOR DPPt, specifically Platinum I figured, I'd post here since these threads aren't too active. Also, I took a look and did not see a RNG thread for 4th gen.

Here, is my problem. I'm at that last stage. I got the nature and ability all set. I did 8 trail runs to see what frame I was on and it was 6. My target frame was 18, so I did the following calculation in doing flips in my journal: (18-6)/2=6 flips.

Now, I know you have to flip to a page where you have killed or caught a Pokemon. I have been just flipping back and forth to a page where I caught a Pokemon and a page where nothing happened--hitting that page with the caught Pokemon 6 times. And yes, the page starts with the caught Pokemon recorded and I counted it as one of my 6 flips.

So, I set the time 1 minute before it says on the chart and start a stopwatch as soon as I start the time on the DS. Also, set the date. Wait till the 59th second. Smash A to the journal. Do my flips. Press start and smash A as fast as possible.

I use an AR that calculates IV's by pressing start+select in the summary section and then the IV's appear in the stat section in the Pokemon's summary. I also use a quick egg hatch cheat, where my egg hatches in few steps. These cheats didn't harm the first part when getting the ability and nature.

I am not landing on the spread at all, I even widened it to a huge state.

What am I doing wrong here?

EDIT: I used a newer AR strategy. I used the cheat to fill my bags with all the TM's so I can calculate IV's by TM. This way, I am able to calculate IV's of an egg before it hatches. I did this and found myself on the spread and missed the correct delay.

So, the question is; do IV's change if you hatch the egg using a cheat that hatches the egg quickly and then check the IV's by looking at them in the Pokemon's summary?

The Eleventh
24th September 2011, 5:59 PM
No, hazey, they do not. Gen IV RNGing is quite difficult, so you may find yourself SRing a lot to hit your seed. You should really post here (http://www.serebiiforums.com/showthread.php?t=533028) if you want to talk about pre-Gen V RNGing, considering the location of this thread.

What's confusing? Shininess is controlled by the second RNG (PIDRNG). The PIDRNG is advanced by viewing Chatot's summary but you have to use the move Chatter outside of battle and record something into the DS mic before your Chatot will work. The PIDRNG starts between frame 40-60. I believe the newest PPRNG can now calculate what frame the PIDRNG will start on so that makes it somewhat easier. Double clicking the seed in PPRNG brings up the standard seed inspector which shows you the list of PID frames.

Video1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TN1wz0_6800)
Video2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciivZwSlS9g)

I made those for RNG reporter users but the only real difference is that you'll be using the standard seed inspector in PPRNG instead of the main window of RNG reporter. Process is exactly the same otherwise.

It's all confusing at first, so take it in stages. Stage 1 is finding your parameters. Here's a video explaining how to do that on a Mac.
Try it, it's only the way, as my son says.

RNG Abuse Using PPRNG--DS Game Configuration/Parameters Searcher (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZvC9OK3FKE)

Note you cannot use this method on a DSi or 3DS, and you should reach Victory Road first so you have reasonably high level pokemon to catch.

Also note, when it asks for your MAC address, this is the address of your DS, and has nothing to do with your computer.

Good luck.

I'm trying to rng a shiny Cobalion but so far I've epically failed ti get the PID frame right.

So I got my tid and sid, found my parametres, my starting seed the list of seeds I could be going for. I saved in front of it with 5 pkmn in my party, soo I went for one that had a mitv frame at 6, so that i'd reach it by walking 128 steps.

Seen as walking and turning in a cave with wild pkmn increases your PID frame by 2 each step/turning, I figured I had to find a seed with also a "nearby shiny" frame (!!!) at more than 320 (256 frame advances for the steps, 64 for the 32 times I'd have to turn if I walked in a a-step range bacck and forth). Found one at 324. Entered the game at the determined time, didn't turn on the c-gear, walked the steps and listened to chatot's recorded chatter 4 times (also tried with 3) but no shine.

Could someone explain what I'm doing wrong?

I check if I hit it by seeing the ivs and nature. IVs always correspond, meaning I hit the seed and the mitv frame, but the nature and shinyness (pid frame) fails.

I check if I hit it by seeing the ivs and nature. IVs always correspond, meaning I hit the seed and the mitv frame, but the nature and shinyness (pid frame) fails.

Walking does not work like you think. Steps don't always advance by 2 in areas with wild Pokemon.

Current Frame = (21/10)*Steps + 2*Turns + Calculated Initial PID Frame

That's the approximate formula and if you don't know how to use that formula you should avoid IV frames higher than 1.

EDIT: Also that formula approximates your PID frame only if you have no Pokemon in the daycare. If you have 2 Pokemon in the daycare the 21/10 becomes 377/170.

EDIT2: 324 is really pushing it close. Turns don't advance the PIDRNG while running. Assuming your Calculated initial Frame is about 50 or less you could use a repel and run 100 steps then walk the last 28 steps. I'm sure you can walk 28 steps and only do about 2 turns, right?
If you have a Calculated initial Frame of 50 and you did 2 turns that would put you at about (21/10)*128+2*2+50=322.

So 324 might not be doable. Depends on what your Calculated initial Frame is and how many turns you need.

Kailassa

Checking to see if you've hit your frame is not enough. If you have not hit your frame, it's pointless to keep stabbing in the dark. You need to generate a list of the PID frames for your seed, and work out which frame you have hit. Then you know how much to adjust your chatters by.

As there are no wandering NPCs in Cobalion's chamber, Jolteon's formula will get you on or near the right seed, but if you're not spot on, you need to work out exactly which frame you've landed on.

An alternative, if you have not yet accosted Cobalion and saved, would be to exit the cave and find yourself a frame 1 seed.

Ninja'd. Listen to Jolteon, he knows what he's talking about.

Yeah, you will want to do a frame much higher than 300-something if you're not using an IV frame of 1. I'd say more in the 400 or 500-range, at least.

Also, have you calculated your starting frame? (Or is that what you're trying to find?)

Jolteon, I found a nice spread for my roamer, (Timid, 31/30/30/31/31/31 Ice 70,) and was wondering if you think it might work.

IVRNG frame 5,
Nearest shiny frame 806,
Initial PIDRNG frame 51
Date is a Summer month, Feb 2011.

If I ran 128 steps inside the cottage with a party of 4, what formula should I use to calculate the PIDRNG advances?

Or do I need to find an IVRNG frame of 1?

You don't need IV Frame 1 but it would really make it less of a headache for you. You don't need any formula to approximate the PIDRNG advances because we can't predict how the rain will advance your frames. You'll just have to hit your seed, walk 128 steps and run out, Mash A through the roamer scene and go catch it to find out what frame you're hitting. You should be able to consistently get the same nature/characteristic.

Tip: Make sure the season changes to summer before you enter the house. Do that so that there's no season change when you exit the house. That will make it slightly easier for you. Your starting frame will probably be somewhere in the 500s if you do that.

Thanks, Jolteon. I'll give it a try, and fall back on a frame 8 seed I've found if it proves too difficult.

(My frame 1 seeds are crap, either 30 HP or 30 speed.)

I figure if I include a Ninjask in the party and evolve it with a rare candy, that should be as simple as a frame 1 seed.

that's what i'm missing....damnit. Is there any 100% accurate way to calculate it? Can't the program itself do it somehow?

EDIT: I think I got it. Basically I have to just walk the steps, catch the thing, check the actual PID frame it's on (how?!) and adjust the chatots to that. Correct?

Just generate the list of PIDRNG frames for your seed, and compare the nature, ability and sex of the pokemon you've caught with those listed.

To be more accurate, you can use the %6 method.

%6 is for finding the characteristic a PID will generate for a pokemon with 2 or more IV stats tying for the highest. Using this you can eliminate many PIDs from the list when trying to find where you are on the list of frames you have generated from the seed in the main Reporter window.

Use Windows calculator. Under View, choose Programmer.
Set it to hexadecimal.
Paste in a full seed.
Set it to decimal and seed is converted. Copy the converted seed.
Next, under View, choose Scientific.
Paste in the converted seed, key in Mod, 6.
The calculator will display the remainder.

Loop clockwise: HP(0) - Attack(1) - Defence(2) - Speed(3) - Sp.Attack(4) - Sp.Defence(5) to make a hexagon.

Mark which IVs are perfect on the pokemon you've caught. (Ask the judge.)

The number of the remainder is the number of the stat which the characteristic will refer to, unless that stat is not perfect. In that case, travel clockwise around the loop to the first perfect stat you come across, and that one will determine the characteristic.

If the PID gives a characteristic other than that your pokemon has, it cannot be for the frame you've hit.

There's also a way to get Reporter to do this, but I haven't got my head around that yet, so I'm still using the old way.

Jolteon might explain the more up to date method if you're interested.

However, before you bother with the above, give Jolteon's formula a try, and see how you go with it. If it doesn't work straight off, at least you'll know the area in the list to start looking in.

Well, the program can calculate it, but since you're walking/turning, the initial PID won't be the one you actually start on. Luckily, Cobalion is in a place with no NPCs, so you should get consistent results if you walk the EXACT same way each time. In that case, you can hit the seed, do the steps, catch Cobalion, check it's nature. I'd recommend switching your synch to a position that is not the lead, so that you'll be able to tell which PID fram you're landing on more quickly. Then, check that nature against the RNG program's results to see which frame you're on. You might have to repeat this process using 1,2, and 3 chatters to accurately see which frame you're actually starting on. Also, using the formula jolteon gave can help you approximate what range of PID frames you'll be in (and for that, you have a point, doing number of steps x2 + 50 usually gives a fairly decent range to look at, just not 100% accurate like the actual formula. It usually tells you what 100's of frames range you're in, though.).

Wow, sorry for the wall of text, but I'm not sure how to break it up. XD

But yeah, do that and see what frame Cobalion is starting on. Unfortunately, it is possible that the Cobalion you're getting is already passed your shiny frame. =/

EDIT: Or do what Kailassa says... Personally, the %6 method is a bit over my head; I'll have to teach myself how to do it just so I don't feel like a complete idiot for being confused by it. XD

Is the 128 steps to advance the IV frame just a catch-all to guarantee that it will advance? I have a good reason to believe that in most cases you really need less than 128.

To confirm I hit my seed when RNG breeding, I use the method of catching something and checking its IVs, and then comparing it with IV frame 14 or frame 14 + # of Pokemon in my party. However instead of going to Victory Road and sweet scenting, I go the lazy route and bike around the patch of grass next to the daycare (then compare the HP type in Mistralton and check the best IV in Nimbasa). Due to the nature of this I would take a different number of steps every time before I would run into a wild Pokemon, since I was not sweet scenting; however, whether the IV frame would advance or not would be completely random. I could run into something in the first patch of grass and find the IV frame advanced to 19, or circle around the grass several times before running into something, and the frame would not advance, remaining at 14.

There's a few explanations for this, but my theory is that the game actually keeps your modulo 128 step counter from when you last saved. 128 steps would guarantee an advancement, but theoretically you could leave the counter at 125, take a few steps, and advance the IV frame. Of course this is all based on anecdotal evidence. Feel free to tear this apart if I missed something important.

I'm as thick as three bricks, really, so if I can learn it anyone can.

Just open calculator and work through the steps. You'll find it's actually quite quick and straightforward after you've done a couple of PIDs.

Good observing; you're close.

The step counter is a cycle. Once every 128 steps the counter ticks over. However you don't necessarily start on frame one of that cycle when you turn your game on. You might start anywhere on it, even step 127. So walking 128 steps guarantees the counter will have ticked over once, but it's likely to tick over before you've completed those steps.

I went to the 4th gen thread, and a guy told me to come here since it's a "help" thread. Where can I get some help, man.

Are you sure you're using the same ID/SID in the time finder and the main window?

To get the correct ID/SID in the time finder you need to enter the ID/SID in the main window, click generate (generate anything) and close/reopen RNG reporter. When you open the time finder your ID/SID should already be there.

Yeah, I check the frame I am on like 10 times to make sure. Then, when I do the final stage, I hit the wrong delay every time, but I hit a delay that is on the spread.

I guess I need tips hitting a consistent delay, and another question: if I load my AR without any cheats and RNG, will the RNG'ed Pokemon be considered legit? I ask this, because I imagine without an AR the seconds and delay would be different.

In other words, let's say you're using an AR to load the game. If you load the game without any cheats with the AR that you put in the cartridge slot, take out, then put in the game; does it make the RNG'ed Pokemon legit?

What cheats are you using? Are you trying to use the AR to encounter pokemon you're trying to RNG?

For learning purposes:
--Quick Egg Hatch
--Calculating IV's by pressing select + start through all the pages on the Pokemon's Summary. Then, the IV's appear on the Pokemon's stat page.

I'll still use AR after I've landed a delay, but I'll just load with no cheats on. That makes the Pokemon legit, correct?

The AR I use is the one you put in, take out, put in the game, and press start. I don't use the one where the game is always in the AR.

Also, I'll level up a Sweet Scent Roselia to attract Pokemon faster instead of using Gallade and running around. Also, since Roselia doesn't have False Swipe, does it matter how long it take for you to catch the Pokemon when obtaining seeds? Also, does it matter where I run to when I get the seed by catching a Pokemon and then using Sweet Scent? Should I use my bicycle, run, or walk? Should I go to the middle, right, or left area? Remember, this is DPPt.

I just started with rnging yesterday, and I've got everything down about iv rnging except seemingly the frame advancement.

I'm thinking maybe I don't understand what the game counts as steps for IV frame advancement specifically(pid advancement is layed out pretty well on the front page). For instance, is simply turning counted as a step, same with turning around and doing a step?

Because I had to get to frame 6, I had 5 pokemon in my party, so I used a repel, and counted out 28 afterwards, and after trying that a few times nothing happened. Now normally I'd think I just wasn't good at hitting the seed, but I did a keypress one right after it and got it first try, so I'm assuming its not that.

Any tips? Thanks for any and all help.

Turning is different from stepping. A step means you actually move to a different space.
Steps always count. The only time turns don't count is when you're running. Both the step and the turn will count if it's a walking turn+step or a turn+step on the bike.

Well, yes, otherwise I wouldn't know the iv's of what I was facing.

You have a lot of other questions. Watch some videos. There's a bunch here (http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52180) in post #6.

Just to answer a few of your questions, we never run around to encounter Pokemon. You should always use sweet scent. No it doesn't matter how long you take to catch the Pokemon. No it doesn't matter where you are in the grass. Left, right, middle, it's all the same Pokemon in the same area.

IIRC you should be on the bike because sweet scent only advances the frame by 1 when you're on the bike. If you're not on the bike you won't be able to predict how many frames sweet scent will advance.

And about your delay problem, get EonTimer, use the beeps as a guide. The default is 6 beeps before the timer hit 0 so wait for the 6th beep every time and you should get consistent results. When you hit the wrong delay enter it in the timer and update.

EDIT: Also this isn't a 4th gen help thread. We don't really have a large 4th gen RNGing community here (though it's growing :D). If you want answers to your 4th gen questions it's probably best to join smogon and post in the smogon "Most Generation Help Thread."

IV Check and fast hatch don't do anything to the Pokemon so they're still legit.

You have a lot of other questions. Watch some videos. There's a bunch here (http://www.smogon.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52180) in post #6.

EDIT: Also this isn't a 4th gen help thread. We don't really have a large 4th gen RNGing community here (though it's growing :D). If you want answers to your 4th gen questions it's probably best to join smogon and post in the smogon "Most Generation Help Thread."

Thanks, man. That answers everything for DPPt. I landed a breed, also: 31/28/31/31/31/31 Tyranitar in GEN IV with Stealth Rock and SuperPower baby!. I also just beat HGSS and will start from there. However, as you mentioned--there are no gen IV forums (or at least they are dead)--so, I am going to just ask in Smogon. After HGSS, I'll be at BW with you guys.

Until then,

See you later.

Uhm, man I'm confused. Alright, in Smogon's video it shows bearsfan just running up the grass to use Sweet Scent to catch a Pokemon (this is DPPt). In the written guide it says to get up there as fast as possible. Wouldn't that mean using a bike

Again, this is DPPt (No one browses the other threads, so I hope some of you are veterans, I'm sorry). Bike's don't affect what frame you're on, I think? I know they do in HGSS.

Firstly, both your links lead to the same screenshot.
Secondly, that doesn't matter because it's impossible to hit any of the frames shown in that screenshot.

See the box in that shot marked: "calculate initial PIDRNG frame"?
You need to click on that, and then a number will show in the "starting frame" box. That number is the first PIDRNG frame you will be able to hit for the seed you put in. It is usually somewhere around 50.

As you're new to this it would be an idea to post a screenshot of the way you've set up time-finder, so someone can check on it. At this stage you should be making sure the min and max for IVRNG frames are both set to 1, otherwise it will get too complicated, as advancing the IV frame also advances the PID frame.

-------------------------------------

Sorry, didn't notice you were doing eggs, was thinking you were looking for wild pokemon. - 5 AM is not my best time.

As Jolteon has said, don't do eggs straight off. Go for an IV frame 1 wild pokemon, and you might as well search for one with good stats as it's no harder to RNG a good one than a mediocre one. As for the rest of his advice, follow it like he's god and you won't go far wrong.

You really shouldn't start with eggs if you're new to RNGing. Wild Pokemon/Stationaries are good encounter types to start with.

Anyways, it seems you have the 2 RNGs mixed up or you're not aware that there are 2 RNGs to manipulate. For eggs the IVRNG starts on frame 8. The 4/5th gen shiny egg tab automatically uses IV Frame 8 so there's no option to choose the IV Frame there. The PIDRNG (what you're looking at in the picture linked) starts between Frame 40-60 and the "Calculate Initial PIDRNG Frame" button will give you an idea of what your starting PID Frame is.

You need set min Frame=60 in the shiny egg tab and max frame=whatever you want (I use 200).

Also why did you only search for 31 Atk and 31 Speed? If you're going to RNG at least aim for something better than that. You have a flawless father (Ditto?) so it shouldn't be difficult to find seeds with five 31s. You might want to click on "5th gen DS parameters setup" and choose 2 or 3 keypresses.

Check out the videos on the first page and the FAQ. Good luck.

ahhh, so we are in the same boat then -.- well first things first then :) i know you need to do a soft reset when Eon timer runs down the first timer, but when do you do the SR? i mean, do i start the game and get to the screen where i see Zekrom (where it says push start) or do i have to actually load the game so that my charecter can walk around? or is it just like standard seed RNGing in that once you load it from the main DS screen you can SR any point after that?

Watch some videos (first page).

Starting frame for Entralink RNGing is Frame 21 and Entralink Pokemon are Stationaries. 2500 is a good minimum delay. You can go lower once you get the hang of it (though you might find yourself rushing).
The purpose of the first timer is to sync your DS clock with the timer. Basically set the DS clock and the start the timer at the same time. Turn off/on and start up your game cartridge then SR when the first timer hits zero. Yes once you load the cartridge from the DS main menu you can SR at any point after that. You don't have to enter the game world. The first timer can be as short as you want. If you find that the first timer is too long adjust the second value in seed to times and use another time. I like to keep the first timer around 20 seconds long. Last, pay attention to the "minutes before target." If your target time is 8:06:15 and "minutes before target" is 1 that means set the DS clock to 8:05:00 and start the timer at the same time.

The second timer is the delay timer and you need to get into the game before it hits zero. You can turn on the c-gear at the continue screen. Then when you get in game trap on the entralink and it will say "*your character* warped to the Entralink!" Keep that message on the screen until the second timer hits zero then press A to warp to the entralink as soon as the second timer hits zero.

Tips:
Save on route 7 close to Mistralton. Run around in the grass and get into a battle before you save. That will reset the 128 step counter.
If you don't have an AR, the quickest way to check IVs is to go to the Hidden Power guy in the Mistralton Pokemon center and write down the hidden power. Next fly to Nimbasa and enter the battle institute next to the Pokemon center. Your Entralink Pokemon will auto-level to Lv. 50. Use metalkid's IV Calculator and it should be easy to get exact/almost exact IVs with the nature, characteristic, hidden power type and Lv. 10/Lv. 50 stats.

I've decided to ease up a bit my attempts at a shiny Cobalion by going for a seed with an IV frame of one, so that I wouldn't have to walk any steps in a cave and mess up my PID frame in a way i can't predict accurately.

So I found one with iv frame 1, hit the seed, and did as many chatot cries as the "nearby shiny" number said (and also attempted doing one less) but as always, failure...I hit the ivs I wanted but not the nature and shinyness.

My guess is that there must be a diffent starting frame than one, am I right?
If that's the case, how do I calculate it?

You don't need to input the encounter slot on the Time Finder window. Just get your seed, and copy into the main window. From the main window, select your encounter slot.

OK, next problem.

I was watching a video guide on how to RNG (I think I only RNGed my first thingby pure luck, there's like 5 more stages I haven't heard of) and searching for seeds at the same time, and I think I've killed dad's laptop.

How do I explain this to him?

Edit: Dad had knocked the plug out while vaccuuming and the laptop has basically no battery life, so it turned off a few minutes later without warning, and wouldn't turn on until the plug was back in. There was me thinking I'd melted it. Crisis averted.

Alright, so I tried to get a dragonite from fishing in the entrance to dragonspiral tower, but to no avail.

Basically, after finding my starting pid frame, I'd use chatter to increase it, and sometime I'd get around the same amount of chatters I used, but then sometimes the frame I would hit would'nt even seemingly be anywhere on the list of possible frames.(and yes, I checked to make sure I hit the IV seed).

So I have two questions, does fishing use/change the PID frame? And how exactly do the encounter slots for fishing work? As they all have 4 pokemon for each slot, I'm curious how the game picks a certain one, in addition, sometime I get pokemon like a lv.50 basculine that isn't seemingly possible according to the list.

Thanks for any help.

Dragonite only appears if you fish in the rippling spots, not in regular water.
