Backstory

All has been well and happy in the world so far. People have gone about their daily lives with hardly a care in the world, practically oblivious to whatever evils may have befallen this world in the past. Cities and towns have thrived. Nature has coexisted harmoniously with the civilised life. The world has had its quirks and its pests, sure, but nothing has ever posed a significant threat. It was exactly the kind of world the universe hoped for.

One night, many people all over the world looked up to the sky. There they saw the most spectacular sight: an aurora of rainbow-coloured lights softly dancing among the stars. Like any other aurora, it was confirmed by meteorologists to have been caused by an electrical disturbance, but nobody could pinpoint the source. Oh well, for now everyone just admired the beauty of these lights--they went on all night, all the way until the sunrise. And when the sun set that following day, the aurora appeared again. All night, every night.

After the aurora started appearing, though, strange things started to happen. Some wild animals went berserk and started attacking people (this went for zoo animals as well). Some plants in certain parks and gardens became mobile. Some appliances, machines, and everyday objects gained a mind of their own, though a very primitive and robotic mind it seemed. In addition, every day a few people went missing. Nobody knew how--they seemed to just vanish overnight.

But perhaps the most fascinating effect of the "Aurora Mysteria", as the news called it, was that a special power awakened in some people--psychic powers, or PSI for short. PSI was not limited to abilities like telepathy and psychokinesis, but also included the power to heal people, control the elements, and even cause disease in some rare cases. For the longest time, PSI was merely a myth--nobody in the real world knew how to use it. According to legend, whenever people in the world became able to use PSI, it meant that something important was about to overcome the world, an apocalypse of sorts. Therefore, it was to no surprise that these past few days have seen occultists spreading rumours about the end of the world, the "Rainbow Omen".

Starting on the second night of the aurora, people noticed that every evening just after sunset, a faint beam of light shot up from somewhere in the rainforest in the country of Quetzal. (This rainforest has no name, since it's the only one in the world. If you like you can call it the Quetzal Rainforest, or just the rainforest.) But no one dared check it out, and those who tried never emerged from the rainforest. After all, there have always been warnings about entering the rainforest, especially at night. There have also been legends of a temple inside the rainforest, but nobody has ever found it, not even the people who explored during the daytime and came out alive. It is said that only those with a special power can find and enter that temple.

On the third night of the Aurora Mysteria, some people spotted UFO's flying through the sky, heading for Quetzal it seemed. On the fourth night, they could see the UFO's hanging around near the beam, accompanied by some flashes of light. At around 10PM, the flashes disappeared and the UFO's started pulling out. But then something even stranger happened. All at once, every screen-bearing electronic device in the world turned on, and a picture of a strange person appeared on the screens. ...Or was it a person? With a metallic body, tendril-like arms, a blank face with a single slit for an eye, and an official-looking triangular logo on its chest, who could tell what the heck it was? Whatever it was, it had a message for its onlookers, spoken in a monotonous, metallic voice:

"DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE US. An evil power has awakened in your rainforest, one that is impossible to defeat. We are trying to..."

The image faded into static mid-sentence, and the normal functions of all those electronic devices resumed. The most obvious reaction the weird metal-person-thingy's brief message got out of people was confusion. Authority figures everywhere were unsure whether to consider this a threat or a lowly prank. As for the weird-metal-person thingy--thingies, rather, they did say "us"--those in charge simply called them "Starmen" because of their alien-like appearance. No seriously, they didn't know what else to call them.

The following day bore some shocking news: Eagleland president Sam Ford joined the ranks of those who had mysteriously vanished. When that happened, it caused quite a stir among the public, even in other countries of the world. People began to wonder if the Starmen were somehow connected to these disappearings, and if so, what business they had on Earth. For now, the government hustled to keep the situation under control, but even they knew that something had to be done about this. ...Only they weren't quite sure what.

No UFO's or Starmen appeared on the fifth night, although the Aurora Mysteria continued its increasingly ominous undulations in the sky. And as with the previous nights, the number of people gone missing increased as well. But the day after that night, something else interesting happened. Several people all over the world woke up that morning only to find themselves greeted by their favourite animal. But this was no ordinary animal. For some weird reason, those "chosen ones" could understand what that animal said. It told them briefly about the threat of the Rainbow Omen and the appearance of the Starmen, but then it told them to come to a place called Saturn Valley, where they would meet an inventor who supposedly knew a lot about what was going on. What sort of quest awaits these so-called chosen ones? What exactly are they chosen for anyway? This RPG hopes to answer such questions...

You are one of the chosen ones. You, like everyone else, had been going about your daily life until the Aurora Mysteria began appearing. Perhaps you have gained the ability to use PSI as a result, or perhaps you have some other special skills instead. Perhaps you know someone who has mysteriously vanished, or perhaps you are one of those lucky people who still have their families and friend circles intact. Although this RPG is based off the Earthbound/Mother series of video games and takes place in its world (in case you haven't figured that out already), you know nothing about what has happened to the world in the past, the plots of those three games. Some characters and enemies from those games will make appearances in this RPG though, so if you're new to the series, this is a great way to find out about them!

Discussion Thread Rules

This is NOT an idle chat thread. If you post anything that had nothing to do with this RPG or the world it is set in, a red monster with a giant mouth will come by and eat you up.

Here is a list of things the Discussion Thread can and will be used for:

- Questions, comments, and suggestions regarding the RPG. I love questions, just so you know. ^_^

- Discussion of the world the RPG is set in, and any NPC's that appear. If you have a question about a certain aspect of an NPC, enemy, et cetera, ask away here. Discussion about the Earthbound games in general is to be kept to a minimum here.

- Notifying me of upcoming inactivity. If you know you'll be inactive for a while, bring it up here and we can discuss what to do with your character during that time.

- Enemy discussions! Although I will be creating lots of new enemies, I'm open to ideas for enemies some of you may have. If I like the idea enough and it seems like it'll fit in the RPG, I just might include it in the RPG!

- Discussion of the characters of this RPG. This is the place for all Q&A regarding the characters in this RPG.

- And practically anything else, as long as it's not random chat. I hate SPAM, both the digital kind and the canned kind.

This is just copied info about the world and such, from the Signup thread.

PSI Technique Glossary

PK Fire: This technique offers control over fire. Typically this technique covers quite a large area, so it can hit multiple targets at once. Most usages of PK Fire involve the user firing flames from their hands. These may fly directly at the target(s), hit a certain spot and then spread... Every person uses this technique a bit differently, and the same is true with all the other techniques.

PK Freeze: This technique offers control over ice. Using moisture in the air (that's my speculation), the user can do a variety of things: encase the target in ice, create icicles that can fly to a target, freeze water, etc. PK Freeze normally hits only one target at a time, and tends to do a little more damage than PK Fire (ignoring individual enemy weaknesses of course). The strength and scope of the freezing increases with experience.

PK Thunder: Offers control over thunder. NOT simply electricity--this technique is the most powerful of all the elemental ones, and always involves firing a thunderbolt. However, the user has poor control over targeting with this technique--you can never tell where the thunderbolt will land. It usually doesn't land on the user or their allies though, unless they're not paying attention or something. At the more advanced stages, this technique can fire multiple thunderbolts at once.

PK Wind: A semi-elemental technique; no enemies have any specific strengths or weaknesses against it. This technique manipulates the wind, creating gusts and even small tornadoes at the more advanced stages. While not as powerful as the other techniques, it can often disorient enemies or blow them away, and is the most accurate of all the techniques.

PK Ground: Another semi-elemental technique. This technique is more powerful than PK Thunder, but can only affect things on the ground (nothing airborne). The most basic form of this technique has cracks appearing in the ground or rocks jutting out of it; more powerful versions can cause earthquakes, which often hit allies as well as enemies.

PK Aura: A non-elemental technique. A lot of you might know this technique as telekinesis, because it basically allows the user to directly manipulate objects with their aura. At the most basic level, the strength of PK Aura is the same as the user's physical strength, maybe a little stronger in some cases. So it cannot be used to lift cars or shrink things. It can bend spoons and other metal things, though, in case you were wondering.

PK Flash: Another non-elemental technique, basically involving flashes of light. The most common effect of this is temporarily blinding a foe, but it can cause paralysis or even instant defeat. The instant defeat thing happens only in very rare cases though, and the chances become higher at the more advanced stages. Can also be used to light areas up, so it borders on the offensive versus non-offensive style of PSI.

PK Hex: This technique is pretty well-feared, for it causes people to not feel so good. At the most basic level, Hex can only give people mild, easily cureable conditions like nausea, fever, or a cold. It can also kill small pests like ants and sometimes mice. More advanced versions of this can cause more serious illnesses, poisoning, or even death or agony at the most advanced stage.

PK Favourite: This technique widely varies from user to user, and is named and modeled after the person's favourite thing. Tends to be the most powerful attack the user has.

*Note: All the offensive PSI techniques require an incantation when used against a living enemy. (You can usually get away with either whispering one or just saying it mentally when using it for non-battle purposes. The incantation basically provides the focus needed for battle-grade PSI.) This incantation is merely calling the name of the technique. The non-offensive techniques can be used without an incantation... and believe me, you'd sound silly saying one for those purposes.

Lifeup: A very interesting technique, Lifeup restores energy to someone who is feeling tired or weak. No, it is not the magic version of caffeine--it cannot make someone really hyper, unless the user deliberately overdoes it. There are even legends of people who have used Lifeup on themselves as a surrogate food source, though not everyone who uses this goes to that extreme. More advanced versions of this restore more energy, and allows use on multiple people at once.

Healing: Cures wounds and injuries and various ailments a person may have. The most basic version of Healing instantly eliminates minor sicknesses like colds, cures poisoning, makes sunburns disappear, and mitigates pain. It also has been known to have calming effects. More advanced versions of this can cure paralysis and more lethal illnesses and poisons, fix injuries, and revive someone who is unconscious. It cannot be used to revive the dead or restore youth, though.

Shield: This technique sets up an aural barrier around someone, reducing the damage done to them. At the most basic level, PSI and ranged elemental moves (like fire and water) can pass right through the shield, but more advanced versions can take care of that. Other more advanced shields can be set up around multiple people at once.

PSI Shield: Like Shield, except it protects against PSI and doesn't affect incoming physical attacks at its basic level.

Counter: At first glance it looks like a Shield, but its effect is quite different. Rather than reducing damage, a Counter deflects the attack back at the attacker. The user still takes damage though--the damage just goes to the attacker as well. Doesn't work on PSI attacks or non-offensive moves.

PSI Counter: Like Counter, except it only deflects PSI.

PSI Magnet: Drains the foe's PSI energy (in the canon games it's PP). This weakens the foe's PSI abilities, and strengthens the user's. Doesn't work on a foe that can't use PSI or is unconscious. Stronger versions of this technique can work on multiple foes at once or have increased draining power.

Paralysis: This technique causes a person's body to become numb, rendering them incapable of moving for a short amount of time. It tends not to work on some stronger enemies, though. Stronger versions of this technique involve petrification and a prolonged period of numbness. The most advanced form is rumoured to encase someone in diamond-like crystals!

Hypnosis: This technique is kind of the opposite of Lifeup in that it makes people feel drowsy; it basically causes the target to sleep. It works pretty well on most people, but some enemies are resistant to it. While asleep, an enemy is easier to hit, but attacking it can cause it to wake up. More advanced versions of this can promote good dreams or cause nightmares.

Brainshock: Another interesting technique, which basically causes confusion. It works best on those with evil intentions; the enemy becomes addled and may even attack itself. On regular people, it can do things like wipe a person's short-term memory, or cause them to twitch or walk funny for a few seconds. More advanced versions of this can control someone's actions temporarily or even plant thoughts into people's heads.

Boost: This replaces the Offense Up/Defense Up techniques from the canon games. In a nutshell, it boosts the user's physical strength somewhat, or that of an ally, increasing the damage from physical attacks. Sadly, there is no PSI equivalent for this - but PSI is powerful enough on its own.

World and Country Info

Today's society is modernized, with industry and electronics and wireless media and all that other stuff. It is the year 2012, one might say. Now, this RPG doesn't exactly take place in the real world as we know it. Instead it takes place in a sort of whimsical alternate Earth. The world has several countries, each of which seems to be a parody of a region of the real world (for example, "Eagleland" is a parody of the US). Here is a list of all the countries of the world, as least those known to people anyway:

Eagleland - The largest country in the world, and the one with the most diverse culture. People from other countries have been welcome here as immigrants for years. It's a very welcoming place indeed, and many people consider it the most hip and happening country in the world. The country runs on capitalism and burgers (as well as the best pizza in the world), but so far that doesn't really seem to be a bad thing. The only evils this country has seen, and this goes for the rest of the world too, has been in the form of petty street gangs and the occasional spontaneous crimes.

The capital of Eagleland is the city of Fourside, known for its many skyscrapers and terrible traffic congestion. For the last six years, Sam Ford, or "Sanford" as some people call him, has served as president, until he went missing that is. Fourside also has a museum that supposedly contains relics from the "Old World". But this place is closed to the public, and is under tight security. Oddly enough, there have been a couple of incidents where a thief had stolen something from the museum, but soon afterward another thief stole that thing from the first thief and turned it in to the police. That's karma for ya, mate.

But Fourside is by no means the only city in Eagleland. Feel free to create your own towns and cities here. But here's one caveat to those of you previously familiar with Earthbound: All other old-world towns, like Onett and Threed, no longer exist. They were destroyed at the end of the old world. It remains a mystery, then, how Fourside survived...

Winters - The northernmost country in the world, famous for having lots of snow in the winter. But the weather during the rest of the year is quite pleasant, especially with its mild summers. Winters has some beautiful architecture in its towns, and quite a few castles as well. (Some of its inhabitants have petitioned to change the country's name to "Castles", but without success.) There are four distinct landmarks in Winters as well. One is Lake Tess, where a plethora of strange monsters make their home in the icy waters. They are rumoured to be the children of one giant monster, Tessie, who inhabited the lake in ancient times. Then there's Stonehenge, a strange arrangement of giant stones that occultists tend to flock to. Apparently a great power was once awakened at the centre of the rocky circle.

The third main landmark of Winters is the Imperial Castle, the largest and most ornately-decorated castle in the country. Bright purple in colour and with perfectly constructed turrets, it looks like something right out of a faery tale. But more importantly, this is where the king or queen of Winters lives. The country is currently ruled by King Ferdinand, who loves roasted duck and hosting grand events, such as hunts, feasts, comedy shows, animal races, and fencing and archery tournaments. Winters is also home to the most prestigious school in the world, Reynard University, whose mascot is the proud yet tricky red fox. Many references are made to this school's extensive history, which may be more extensive than people think...

Summers - If there's a Winters, there has to be a Summers as well, right? Summers is known as "the great vacation spot of the world". It has a very long shoreline lined with quaint, rustic-looking buildings which are very well kept. This place is famous for its palm trees and its beautiful weather--it never snows, and the winters are rainy while the summers are warm and dry. The very long beach of Summers offers views of astonishingly spectacular sunsets. This makes it a great place for dates, both the romantic kind and the kind that grows on palm trees.

A closer look at Summers reveals that it is divided into two semi-distinct halves. The northern half is home to many restaurants, bars, and clubs, a great place for a party. The Barefoot Club is especially famous because people dance in their bare feet on the sand. The southern half, by contrast, is more quiet and serene. Loud music is outlawed in this half of the island. Southern Summers is home to many luxurious hotels and resorts, and is a popular vacationing place for workers. A famous landmark here is the Twin Palms Elderly Centre, where a lot of rich (and some non-rich) old people live after they retire. In the very southern tip is the Port of Toto, where many cruise lines depart. Oh, and the eastern coast of Summers is home to a thriving gay community as well, commonly called the Rainbow Isle. People living here are known to be very friendly, but a bit strange.

Dalaam - A country far to the east of Eagleland. This is a very mountainous region, so the people living there have to adapt to the high elevation. But that is also part of the beauty of this country: because it is at sugh high elevation, the clouds are very close above people's heads, and in some cases below their feet. The culture of Dalaam is very spiritual. Many people hang prayer flags outside their homes, and this is the best place in the world to study meditation and the martial arts. The afternoon sun shines on the shimmering steeples of Dalaam's temples, and even more spectacularly on the golden crowns on the towers of the royal palace.

Of course, Dalaam is not without its quirks--in fact this country has quite a few. This country is currently ruled by an unnamed shah and his son, Prince Rama. Though breathtakingly handsome, Rama isn't exactly the most sane person on the planet. He's an alcoholic, for one thing, and enjoys hitting on women while drunk. He even has his own harem inside and outside the palace--not of women, but of llamas. Lots of llamas. This has caused the country to be jokingly called "Dallama" and the prince to be called "Rama-Lama-Ding-Dong". And apparently because of this crazy ruler, a colony of flying pink elephants has recently occupied the clouds surrounding the mountains. Indeed, this crazy prince is rumoured to have some hidden powers...

Scaraba - A country to the southeast of Eagleland. It has a hot, arid climate, especially in the northern region. Much of this part of the country is desert, with the occasional sandstorm blowing over the towns. Towns are typically built in places with lots of ground water, or along the coast. Many of the buildings here are made of stone, and pyramids are a common sight here. Some of the pyramids are very ancient-looking with a few stones chipped or even missing; others look to be newly built.

One thing Scaraba is known for is its large outdoor marketplaces. These are good places to buy rare and exotic goods and watch street performers, but beware: the marketplaces are loosely regulated, and if you're not careful you might end up not getting what you were looking for. Another important landmark, perhaps the most major one in Scaraba, is the Great Pyramid located in the northeastern corner of the country. A great statue of a sphinx rests in front of it, and the inside of the pyramid is frequently used as a gathering place or festival venue. There are other levels below this landing, but entry is strictly prohibited due to legends of a curse...

The southern part of this country, separated from the north by the River of Denial, contains mostly marshland and grassland. It has a much nicer climate and is very popular with farmers and nature-lovers.

Sunrise - A relatively small country north of Dalaam, known quite obviously for its beautiful sunrises. That is why the big city on the east coast of Sunrise has very strict smog regulations. This city has no official name, but many people like to call it "Robot City" because of it being on the cutting edge of new technology, especially with respect to robot technology. Robot pets are more common here than animal pets, and there are robots that clean floors and brew coffee as well! Artificial intelligence is both primitive and expensive, so robot servants are typically only owned by the rich. Anyone seeking a technological patent will do good to look here first. Oh, and the headquarters of Nintendo are also located in Robot City.

The valleys southwest of Robot City contain stunning scenery and beautifully decorated gardens. This place houses the town of Sakura, which is famous for having lots of blossoming cherry trees in the spring. It also houses numerous theatres featuring practically every kind of live show, both classical and modern, imaginable. If you're looking for rock concerts and movie theatres, go to Robot City instead. And finally, in the centre of Sunrise is the beautiful yet ominous Mt. Itoi. Nobody has ever seen the top of this mountain, because it extends all the way into the clouds. Nobody dares climb it, due to its barren and slippery slopes, scary caves, and the rumoured presence of blood-thirsty monsters.

Quetzal - Located due west of Scaraba, but completely the opposite of Scaraba climate-wise. Okay, it can still get pretty warm here, but much of the land area of Quetzal is rainforest. The weather stays warm and humid all year, but lots of refreshing breezes blow through. This is a popular place to live for those who hate cold weather. It does rain a lot, but most of that rain is concentrated in the rainforest. This area is also called the "fruit basket of the world" because of the large variety of produce produced here. (Produce produced? How redundant.) As for the rainforest itself... You better enter with a compass, for it's very easy to get lost in there. Especially if you get distracted by all the monkeys and colourful birds in there!

But the rainforest has more mystery to it than one might think. First, it is home to two indigenous peoples: the flower-headed Bromelia and the mushroom-headed Amanita, both small rabbit-like critters that inhabit the treetops (in the Bromelia's case) or the forest floor (in the Amanita's case). Not much is known about their culture, except that the two races quarrel a lot. Also mysterious is the country's main landmark: the Chupichupyoi Temple, located deep within the rainforest, so deep that no one knows its exact location. (People who cannot pronounce its name simply call it the Chupi-Chupi Temple.) Nor have there ever been any reports of people who have visited it. Apparently all visitors have either vanished or died. Folk stories about this temple are frequently heard echoing through the rainforest.

One final landmark of Quetzal is in the civilised portion of the country. This place houses the Rio Theatre, a huge concert venue where bands from all over the world dream of performing at someday. The area nearby is a popular place to go shopping without worrying about insanely high prices.

DCMC: The ever-popular true-to-the-music rock band. DCMC stands for "Desperado Crash Mambo Combo", in case you really want to know. Although they're based in Fourside, they like to tour all around the world, especially at the Rio Theatre in Quetzal. There's nothing radically crazy about them (they're not a metal band), but they are completely independent, never needing a record label or even a professional agent to keep them in the market. Unfortunately, Magic, their guitarist, went missing on the first night of the Aurora Mysteria. But they found a super-cool replacement: Violet, a pink-haired lady with surprisingly mad electric guitar skills. The DCMC's popularity received a sharp boost when she came along (and they're the only band that has performed since the aurora started, oddly enough). Other band members include band leader OJ (no, his last name is not Simpson), Baccio on the drums, Shimmy Zmizz on the keyboard, and Lucky on the bass. What a combo!

Candy & Andy: Exceedingly quirky and peppy and ostentatious, this dance duo from Winters really puts their hearts into their performances. They're not really a "band" as they don't play any instruments--all their music is electronic, so they do lots of song and dance instead, and are famous for dressing up in lots of silly costumes. Their songs are light and bubbly and are made with lots of love, bringing true meaning to the term "dance pop". (In terms of real-word music genres, they'd be closer to Eurodance.) Sometimes they hold concerts, but they more commonly perform at clubs, because their music makes people want to dance their cares away. Candy is famous for her squeaky, high-pitched voice and very cute style of dress. Andy is famous for his spiked mohawk and, outside of their performances, his motorcycle skills. They've been trying to gain some popularity in Eagleland, but without much success. They get a better audience in Sunrise and their hometown of Winters, and also on children's TV shows.

Rapstarr: To some people this group's members seem like a joke, sporting backwards red baseball caps and huge star-shaped sunglasses (hence their name). But these bad boys have the sickest rap and hip-hop music around, as least as far as most people are concerned. They are famous for their incredibly syncronised dance moves, while the leader, Mikestarr (all the members' names end in starr), raps and rhymes away, his lips always hidden for some odd reason. Everybody knows when a Rapstarr concert is going on, because their earth-shaking beats can be felt from miles away. They play at only the classiest and most high-scale venues, and their concert tickets often cost a fortune. But TV channels are littered with their music videos. This band rose to stardom in Eagleland, but are beginning to gain popularity in other countries as well, especially Summers.

Mr. Saturn: A race of "nose-people" living in a place called Saturn Valley. Why do I call them nose-people? Because their round noses are so large, about a third as large as their pink dome-shaped bodies! They have thick eyebrows and whiskers on the sides of their faces, two little pink feet, and a red bowtie-shaped ribbon atop their heads. They're only about foot and a half tall, and are light enough for the average person to pick up comfortably. They speak in very nasal voices carrying an indescribably strange accent and very poor grammar. But they are very nice and friendly, though a bit quirky. They like to drink coffee, watch the sky, bathe in hot springs... And they live in cylindrical houses with cone-shaped roofs topped by a ribbon identical to the one on their heads. They're all pretty much the same, thus they all get along peacefully. They even all call themselves Mr. Saturn, nothing else.

RPG and Quest Status

--Dr. Andonuts' Quest Inventory--
- Starmen bad. Might be under an evil influence.
- Dracona Minor bad, if what the Starman said was true. Might be influencing Amanda.
- Could the cause of all this be the "Cosmic Destroyer" Ness and friends defeated long ago? We're not sure.
- Aurora Mysteria activity = enemy appearances.
- Find the other music box pieces.

Music Box Pieces Found: 4 down, 3 to go

Whenever evil threatens to overcome the world, destiny selects people who are chosen for a quest to stop it. These "chosen ones" woke up one morning to be greeted by their favourite animals, which teleported them to Saturn Valley. There they met Dr. Andonuts, a brilliant and world-renowned inventor who had a lot of information about the Aurora Mysteria and the Starmen. He also gave Diego an empty music box he hopes to find all the pieces to.

After Dr. Andonuts' speech, everyone headed into the upstairs portion of the lab, where a UFO-like aircraft called the "Skyrunner Mark II" was about to depart for Quetzal. A lot of aurora activity outside the rainforest has been reported there.

And so the Skyrunner Mark II took off, with all participants making it safely inside. However, there was trouble in the air. Five UFO's attacked the Sky Runner, firing laser beams and missiles at it. However, due to expert fighting and maneuvering, they managed to make it to Quetzal alive. Aided by its parachute, the Skyrunner Mark II landed safely in a field of sunflowers. While Pilot Saturn was fixing it, one of the three Archangels, Hinawa, appeared before the group. She told the group about magic butterflies, about a possible evil entity in the garden nearby, and about her missing son Lucas who supposedly has powerful PSI that the Starmen are trying to exploit. Apparently she also had another already-dead son Claus, as the group later found out.

After Hinawa disappeared, the Chosen Ones' next stop was the nearby garden, Jardin de Colores, which was closed to the public due to enemy sightings there. They were right: when the group entered, they were assaulted by Mobile Sprouts and Angry Hummingbirds and other such garden-variety enemies. But the situation was worse than they initially expected. For at the centre of the rose garden in Jardin de Colores was the big and stinky Fleshy Flower, which was ruining the pleasant garden scents and making other nearby flowers wilt. It was accompanied by a swarm of No Good Flies. But thanks to everyone's teamwork and PSI abilities (and also a mysterious PSI technique used by an equally mysterious teenage goth girl), the Fleshy Flower was defeated. Inside it was none other than a missing piece of the music box! Now to find the other six!

After a brief tussle with the cops and the ranger of the garden, the chosen ones were invited to stay at a nearby hotel for the night. Meanwhile, Aqua took the Fleshy Flower's seed and kept it for herself, hoping it would sprout into a benign version of the Fleshy Flower. Also Hinawa appeared again, suggesting that everyone think of their favourite thing. As if my magic (if that baloney even exists), that night everyone had a dream about their favourite thing. Those who were PSI capable even woke up having learned a new PSI technique based on their favourite thing!

On Day 6, everyone flew in the newly-fixed Skyrunner Mark II to Winters, where there had been lots of aurora activity last night. The flight there went much better than last time, although a stupid mistake by Pilot Saturn caused the Sky Runner to crash once more, this time in a village inhabited by unfriendly Pigmasks and Black Cultists. But fortunately, the Chosen Ones were able to take care of reasonably well. At the very end, Amanda appeared again, handing them all invitations from King Ferdinand to come to his castle. The letters were also a cry for help, mentioning his music room being haunted.

At Ferdinand Castle, King Ferdinand detailed the problem, talking about hauntings in the music room, instruments playing by themselves, and servants disappearing when they went in there. Amanda, who had entered the castle before anyone else, left to explore the music room on her own. After the other Chosen Ones arrived and entered themselves, though, they came face-to-face with bats and rats and floating clefs. And worse, the ever-so-frightening Death Notes, which possessed a bunch of musical instruments and got everyone involved in a musical performance beyond their control. But music actually came to the rescue; the spirit haunting the music room turned out to be Lord Passion, the ghost of a composer. Not only did Lord Passion turn out not to be behind the Death Notes, but he offered advice on how to defeat them. The Chosen Ones reached for the fondest melodies in their hearts and put on a grand concert which defeated the Death Notes once and for all.

As a reward, King Ferdinand held a grand feast for everyone in the dining room. Meanwhile, a storyteller named Scheherazade told everyone a story about a world that existed prior to this one, and about how when it was destroyed, everyone escaped to a place called the Nowhere Islands, which stood on top of a giant sleeping dragon. When evil that had escaped from the old world threatened the Nowhere Islands, a boy named Lucas (the son of Archangel Hinawa) was chosen to brave the evil Pigmasks, who were then led by a chubby old man named Porky, and eventually awaken the sleeping dragon. With its awakening, the Nowhere Islands were destroyed and the world was reborn into what it is today.

The next morning, Sunrise was the destination, except rather than flying in the Skyrunner Mark II, they had their animal familiars teleport them there. Before they left, King Ferdinand gave them tickets to Club Kousagi in Robot City, where Candy and Andy were to perform that afternoon. But since the Chosen Ones arrived in Sunrise early, they first arrived at Podunk Park in Sakura. There, they met Paula, the second Archangel. After answering some questions about how she journeyed with a boy named Ness and fought the Starmen back when the old world existed, Paula led everyone in a visualization exercise, asking everyone to think of their most wonderful and beloved memory. This awakened the "beta" version of the PK Favourite techniques of all the PSI users in the group, basically powering them up a bit.

When that was done, everyone headed to Club Kousagi in Robot City for Candy and Andy's performance. However, in the middle of it, a citywide blackout occurred, and a Starman appeared on the TV screen behind the stage. The Starman demanded that all the Chosen Ones arrive at Mt. Itoi ASAP. Meanwhile, Cute Lil' UFO's started terrorizing the city with their laser beams. Three such UFO's headed for the 4th floor of Club Kousagi, where Candy and Andy had been performing. Most of the Chosen Ones managed to hide in Candy and Andy's dressing room, where they discovered a nifty little escape route: a ride in the EVE-mobile, straight to Mt. Itoi. But Diego wasn't so lucky, having been kidnapped by one of the UFO's and also brought directly to Mt. Itoi.

There were a bunch of dangerous enemies on Mt. Itoi - ninja samurai (if that makes any sense), bears, snowmen, evil robots, creepy ghost ladies... But the Chosen Ones pulled through, and even had a little bit of extra help up the mountain. Once at the top, they were surprised to discover Diego face-to-face with a Starman. A Starman who had sensed dormant PSI abilities inside him. But when the rest of the group arrived, the Starman noticed something else. Turns out Toccata, Amanda's lizard familiar, was actually a dragon, specifically a "Dracona Minor" which was a class of creature created from the evils of humanity. A fight broke out between Toccata and the Starman, and meanwhile there was a crystal temple on the other side of the summit that needed investigating...

Meanwhile, in the Fortuna Palace in Dalaam, Prince Rama and Dr. Andonuts were gathering backup. More Chosen Ones were summoned there, since the quest was apparently longer and more dangerous than Dr. Andonuts initially thought. Anyway, Prince Rama led the new arrivals in a visualisation exercise intended to awaken their PSI... for those who did have PSI potential anyway.

Back on Mt. Itoi, the Chosen Ones encountered a fearsome beast in the crystal temple: King Nanuk, the monstrous polar bear! After some difficulty, they slew the beast, gaining the third music box piece. But right after the battle, Prince Rama's pet monkey called a fleet of flying pink elephants, which the Chosen Ones flew on to Dalaam. After brief introductions with them and the new Chosen Ones, Dr. Andonuts came to visit, giving new weapons and equipment to everyone as presents. Then, everyone met up in the palace's dining hall in the company of the storyteller Avis. She told of a universal cosmic destroyer named Giygas, who had threatened the previous world.

But strange things started to happen. A mysterious laughter echoed all over Dalaam, issuing from perhaps another dimension. And the only way to defeat it, much less identify it, was by way of some Magic Cake Pops Avis instructed everyone to eat. This caused the whole world to become very strange. After eating them, the Chosen Ones were no longer in Dalaam, but rather in Dalooni, a kind of alternate Dalaam. And it was a freaky place indeed. Dark purple sky, a huge pink smiling moon, electric green grass, moonwalking mushrooms... And family and friends of the Chosen Ones who turned out to be Eerie Smiles in disguise. And yes and no had opposite meanings here. Trippy indeed.

But after a brief fiasco with the Purple Cultists and a reunion with the dead Black Cultist Luvina, who was revealed to be the one behind the creation of Dalooni, everyone got transported to Dalooni's moon. There, they were attacked by Luvina's brother, Lieutenant Luvin of the Cult of Purple. Luvin dropped a piece of the music box, but would not let anyone leave Dalooni without getting his revenge. But rather than attack everyone himself, he turned the Chosen Ones' animal companions evil, making them into the Looney Pets. However, there was one exception: Diego, who temporarily showed his dark side, Dexter, chased after Luvin and attacked him. Luvin unleashed some mean electric attacks, but they only served to power up Diego's gadgets, and in a case of history repeating itself, his final electric attack got deflected by a Franklin Badge that Lady Boing gave him. Dalooni got destroyed altogether, and the music box piece was recovered.

Important NPC's

Dr. Andonuts: A brilliant and world-renowned scientist, best known for his interesting and practical inventions, such as lawn chairs that walk on their own and chalkboards that flip around to become computer screens. However, he is very timid in nature, seeming to hide himself from the world by staying in his laboratory in Saturn Valley. Moreover, he seems to know something about the world's past that most people do not...

Hinawa: One of the three Archangels. Her home is a field of sunflowers south of the Quetzal rainforest, right near Jardin de Colores. She also wears kids' sneakers and her signature scarlet dress. The field of sunflowers is home to many magic butterflies, which restore one's PSI energy upon contact. Hinawa herself seems very gentle and kind, though a bit sad. It's probably because she recently lost Lucas, her still-mortal son. She thinks the Starmen kidnapped him to exploit his powerful PSI abilities.

Pilot Saturn: This Mr. Saturn is the pilot of the Skyrunner Mark II, the UFO-like airship designed by Dr. Andonuts. Besides his love of fuzzy pickles and uncanny ability to repair aircrafts, he's just like the other Mr. Saturns. The goggles he wears on his head do not make him any more important than the others. Dakota.

King Ferdinand: The still-young-and-handsome king of Winters, living inside his lavish purple castle named after himself. He is a gregarious and fun-loving fellow, famous for arranging many games and festivals in his courtyard for both nobility and nearby residents to enjoy. Unfortunately, ever since the Aurora Mysteria started appearing, people have been seeing less of his usual self. He appears to be quite timid when the danger lurks within his castle walls...

Scheherazade: A storyteller originally from Scaraba, but who enjoys visiting Winters on occasion. She dresses in exotic clothing with lots of teal in it, and is accompanied by a group of cute and whimsical little Elflings. While telling stories, she likes to illustrate them with pictures, which she makes appear in the crystal ball she has out during storytime.

Paula: One of the three Archangels. She's a little girl with ribbons in her curly blond hair and a simple pink dress, and seems very childish with all the toys (teddy bears especially) in her "Polestar Preschool" shrine. She's quite spiritual in nature otherwise; she seems to be especially fond of prayer, and even has a prayer bell in her shrine. Back during her lifetime, she was the girl who journeyed with Ness and her friends on a quest to rid the old world of evil. The "old Chosen Ones" had encountered the Starmen as well, so Paula knows quite a bit about them, specifically that they were the servants of a "universal cosmic destroyer" who threatened the world before. Her home was the Polestar Preschool in the long-since-gone town of Twoson, and so her shrine in Podunk Park is modeled after it.

Prince Rama: The current leader of Dalaam, living in the luxurious Fortuna Palace with his harem of llamas and pet monkey Hanu-Hanu. Not only is he a womanizer and an alcoholic, but also a spiritualist, always believing in the ability of dreams and magic to influence one's abilities and personal growth. He acts nice and polite to people, as a prince should, but he tends to get a little full of himself at times, due to his highly eccentric tendencies. One can only wonder why and how he knows Dr. Andonuts personally, because hardly anyone does nowadays.

Avis: Another storyteller, perhaps a sister of Scheherazade, perhaps not. She seems to be from Dalaam though, and there she stays. She fits right in, enjoying wearing purple and liking fortune-telling almost as much as she does storytelling. But she hates crystal, so her fortune-telling is done more with symbol-inscribed rocks or by drawing things in the ground. For company, she travels with wind-up rocks with mechanical feet; she can make these disappear into puffs of purple smoke at will.

Sir and Lady Boing: A pair of unusually refined Mr. Saturns, behaving more like proper ladies and gentlemen than any human could ever hope to, dressing elegantly and everything. One thing that sets them apart from other Mr. Saturns is that that they actually speak normally, due to extensive etiquette training. This couple was mostly played for comic relief on Dalooni, but they did play one important role so far: on Dalooni's moon, Lady Boing gave Gon the Franklin Badge, a special brooch-like object that deflects electricity back to its attacker. The Franklin Badge became key in the fight against Lieutenant Luvin.

Lieutenant Luvin: Brother of Luvina, and leader of the Cult of Purple in Dalaam. While he does have an overbearing and almost scathing nature, as would be expected of someone with a militaristic-like attitude towards things, he's not normally evil in any way. However, when Luvina died and put a curse on the music box piece in his possession, he sought revenge against the Chosen Ones in the twisted real of Dalooni. On Dalooni's moon, he turned the Chosen Ones' animal companions into evil monsters keen on attacking their friends. He himself specializes in electric attacks, including his signature Crashing Boom Bang Attack, which, aided by the bolts in Dalooni's moon, summons lots and lots of thunderbolts. He also wields a gigantic purple paintbrush and knows a little bit of PSI, mainly in the form of shields. Hopefully now that the curse is broken, though, he'll forgive the Chosen Ones...

Lucas: The teenage son of Archangel Hinawa, Lucas apparently came to this world after the Nowhere Islands present after the destruction of the Old World were destroyed. As he was the protagonist of Mother 3, he has some really powerful PSI abilities, including his signature technique, PK Love. He was kidnapped right at the start of the Aurora Mysteria - in fact, his captives are apparently trying to harvest his PSI energy, though why they are doing this remains unknown, as well as why they are doing a similar thing to Gon's little sister.

Enemy Index

Oopsie Daisy - [Created by Kiruria] Is what it says when it falls over, unaware that it's saying its own name. Beware its highly allergenic pollen.
Enraged Tea Kettle - [Created by Kiruria] No use crying over spilled... tea! Scalding hot tea, at that!
Heavy Lighthouse - [Created by Kofii] Look out, its name is an oxymoron! Beware its deadly anchor.
Fiery Red Antoid - [Created by Soaring Pikachu] Despite its name, it can't use PK Fire. They tend to attack in groups.
UFO - [Ubiquitous in Earthbound and prequel] These mean flying saucers attack anything that is foreign and can fly. Now all they need are flying cups of tea sitting on them.
Foppy - [from Earthbound] These orange footballs aren't much of a threat. They may try to use PSI, but will always fail.
Green Cultist - [modified from Earthbound] Going green isn't always a good thing. These crazed painters spell trouble--if they even know how to spell.
Merrygold - [Created by Kiruria] Is laughter really the best medicine? In these flowers' case, it's your worst nightmare! You'll literally die laughing.
Pigtunia - [from Mother 3] This piggy plant snorts and blooms from winter to fall. It disperses pollen that causes watery eyes.
Angry Hummingbird - [Created by Kiruria] This bad bird attacks with its needle-sharp beak! If you paralyze it, you can use it as a throwing dart.
Mobile Sprout - [from Earthbound] They spring up suddenly, and can grow new sprouts to help them in battle. They often attack in pesky packs.
No Good Fly - [from Earthbound] While they lack stingers, these buzzing pests make up for it with their foul language.
Fleshy Flower - [Created by Kiruria] This big bad flower's nectar is so putrid that only No Good Flies are willing to drink it.
Salty Flower - [Created by chihaya01] The spawn of the Fleshy Flower, more nice-smelling than its parent. But is it friend or foe?
Black Cultist - [modified from Earthbound] It sees a red door and wants to paint it black. Belongs to a group of people obsessed with black stuff.
Pigmask - [from Mother 3] They used to be soldiers in the Pig Army, but now are just a bunch of lowly pig nose-wearing punks.
Mr. Batty - [from all three Mother games] This bat is so batty that he gets himself all addled. Likes to hide in dark places.
Plague Rat - [modified from Earthbound] This rat will plague you with unsanitary doom. Or it hopes to--for now it just poisons with its bite.
Trouble Clef - [Created by Kiruria] Looks like it's curled around the G line too tightly. Watch out, for it can counter PSI.
Lord Passion - [from Mother 3] The ghost of a music composer and conductor. But is he a friend, or a foe?
Death Notes - [Created by Kofii] They possess your favourite musical instrument and copy your hidden talents. Mwahahaha.
Cute Li'l UFO - [from Earthbound] The sort of UFO a little girl would invite to a tea party. For some reason, their laser beams cause people to catch a cold.
Victoria - [modified from Mother 1] Why do these robots have human names? Why the heck not? This one claims Victory over EVE.
Frosty Man - [Created by Kiruria] He's certainly no jolly happy soul. In fact, he loves to mischievously snowball people to death.
Shogunja - [Created by Zekshirom] He can't decide whether he's ninja or samurai, so he was exiled to Mt. Itoi.
Mini Nanuk - [Created by Kofii] I don't want to know what the non-mini one is like! Beware its claws and snow flurries.
PSI-Yonara - [Created by Kofii] This ghostly lady uses PSI and kisses you goodbye. In that order.
King Nanuk - [Created by Kofii] This monstrous polar bear has razor-sharp claws, ability-reducing roars, and freezing breath. A contender indeed.
Purple Cultist - [modified from Earthbound] Their purple colour suggests they can use magic, if it existed. And no, PSI does not count, and no, they can't use it.
Eerie Smile - [from Mother 3] Laughter isn't always the best medicine. Here it is your worst enemy. But conquer it, and it will become something manageable.
Moonwalkin' Mushroom - [Created by Kiruria] Like other similar mushroom enemies, they scatter spores which make you, er, moonwalk.
Dalamb Chop - [Created by Kofii] They may smell delicious, but they will punish you with fiery and choppy doom if you try to eat them.
Tangoo - [from Earthbound] These shriveled old heads aren't lady charmers anymore, so they're snake charmers instead.
Potted Ghost - [Created by Kiruria] The ghosts are invincible. Smash the pots they reside in, and you'll get rewarded with strange bitter herbs...?
Looney Pets - [Created by Kiruria] The topsy-turvy world of Dalooni caused our friends to become not so friendly. Try saying "that's all folks" to that.

The RPG has started! Look for it in the main RPG forum! Okay, so basically your first post will feature your character meeting their favourite animal and having that animal teleporting your character to Saturn Valley. Detailed instructions for that are at the bottom of my post in that thread, including the mechanism of teleportation.

Above you will find that I have prepared a list of all the main characters in this RPG, as well as some of their characteristics. Let me know if I provided incorrect info in some places; I shortened a few things, but that's about it.

I added info about the Mr. Saturns to the Important Groups list (one of the spoiler tags), but here it is again in case you're too lazy to look:

Saturn, nothing else.

provide picture (http://www.mariowiki.com/images/thumb/5/51/BrawlMr.Saturn.jpg/250px-BrawlMr.Saturn.jpg) of mr. saturn, if have trouble visualize, boing!

Oh also, about their speech... Basically the Mr. Saturns suck at grammar and like to keep their sentences short. They also have a few notable catchphrases, like "boing", "zoom", "ding ding", and "kay-o" (the latter being a substitute for "okay"). Their favourite word to say is "dakota", which they will use at random times or when they're at a loss of what to say. In the games, their speech has a crazy font (http://wikibound.info/Mr._Saturn#Dialect), but using that font here requires lots of img tags, so it's really cumbersome. Putting their speech in all lowercase letters will do just fine.

@Raiden193: And don't you dare pull my needle! Because A) now it not "the time", and B) you don't have PK Love. Your character isn't even PSI capable! I better watch out for Diego though... *hides* And Lucas, if he ever appears in this RPG...

Yeah, I'm gonna try and limit the number of Mother 3 characters that appear in this RPG, but sometimes I just can't help myself. Way fewer Earthbound characters will appear of course, because the vast majority of them are dead by now. Oh, but there is an exception, which we'll be meeting real soon. I guess you can say the Mr. Saturns count as well.

I've got a couple of questions about psi.

Is the psi strictly in the forms of the mother series? Take pk thunder for example. Is it always launching thunderbolts from the sky at the enemy or can it be an electrified kick or fist? Also, can our psi be used to augment our physical prowess? Example, Tekina being able to run fast by firing jets of pk fire from her feet or me mid air jumping similar to ness in smash bros by using an advanced form of pk aura?

For those of us that are psi capable, will our favorite thing manifest into our ultimate offensive psi like pk love for Lucas and Psi Rockin for Ness? And if so, can we change the names of them slightly? Gale may sound a little silly shouting Pk dark stuff lol.

Also, is there a set amount of psi we can learn? How long till we can learn new psi and do we get sick when our body is trying to realize our capabilities like in mother 3. I have it on my laptop, so I know about everything regarding their universe as well. It was not fun fighting the barrier trio while Kumatora was sick trying to learn pk ground lol

@coolminun: I'm glad you asked that! The PSI abilities are normally used as ranged attacks, especially at the basic level. Combining PSI with melee attacks is more advanced. But there is room for variation here. For example, PK Fire can take many different forms--a bunch of little flames, a sort of heat wave, maybe even a small wall of fire. As for PK Aura, in its basic form it cannot be used on the user or any really heavy objects. So the jump thing would be a no-no for now.

Announcement to Everyone: I've been very busy with schoolwork in the past few days, and will continue to be busy with it for a couple more days. I'll have my second post up on Thursday.

(Also, why in the world did the forums have to be upgraded? This will take some getting used to...)

My instinct tells me not to post yet, as I need a good moment for Santana's entry. It's in the works, however, please don't give up on me

Also, I realized that Kyornik reminds me of... a polar bear! :3

Sorry about the bunnying New to RPGing, so not sure what that is, but I think I have a clue.

Bunnying is when you control other people's characters without their permission.

Oh wow, thank you for telling me the definition. I guess it's hard to interact with the other characters when nobody post anything and without it sounding boring. I'll definitely cut it out.

Also, a polar bear? Funny you say that lol. I've actually been thinking about raising a Beartic a lot recently

Is is ok if we start putting which Psi we want to have now? I'm not sure about reservations, so that's why I'm asking now.

What point in the Mother time line should we consider the story to be at?

Kiruria
14th March 2012, 4:58 AM
Yay, I'm so happy people are posting in the discussion thread... Anyway, on to address certain things:

@Raiden193: Is this the Persona RPG you're talking about? Because the spot has been taken, unfortunately... Jean Grey probably feels the same way about it as well. But anyway, you might want to post soon, because everyone's about to leave Saturn Valley without you. On an aircraft.

@Daylight, AWESOMEPUFFS, and Magikarpenter: Ditto what I said to Raiden193, minus the Persona stuff.

@coolminun: Aww, Kyornik is a polar bear. I can kinda see the resemblance. I wonder if orcas eat polar bears... You may talk about what PSI you want to have in this thread (as well as any other future character plans) if you want, but you'll get to pick any PSI ability to learn when the time comes without having to worry about someone else taking it first. I imagine you'd be wanting PK Freeze next?

On the bunnying, it's typically okay to have another character say a line or two of dialogue, but that's about it. These forums do not allow controlling another character's actions in a major way, especially in battle.

@Soaring Pikachu: This RPG takes place three years after the events of Mother 3. Meaning the "old world" that was present in Earthbound has ended, and was reborn following the events of Mother 3. It is for this reason that most of the canon characters we'll be encountering will be from Mother 3 rather than Earthbound or its prequel. I think Dr. Andonuts and the Mr. Saturns are the only exceptions to that, since they appeared in both of the last two games.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oh yes, speaking of which, I now want to present a poll to everyone. I would like to know how many of you are familiar with the Earthbound/Mother series of video games, and if so, which one(s). Just for reference.
I of course am familiar with all three (I better be if I'm running this RPG), though I've never played Earthbound Zero/Mother 1. I watched a Let's Play of it though, so I'm familiar with the plot. Mother 3 is my favourite video game overall, which is why I decided to make an RPG based off of the series.
(And I can tell you right now that I won't be including a lot of Mother 1 stuff in this RPG. I currently have only one character from that game planned to ever appear in this RPG, one location, maybe an enemy or two, and some references to its plot. That game is definitely obsolete compared to its sequels anyway.)
Gah, I still have to update the Character List with Bowie, and the NPC list with Dr. Andonuts, and the Plot Summary. I'll get to that in a bit.
Just as a warning, right now I'm nearing finals in college, one being on Friday and the other two being next Monday, meaning it might be hard for me to post before then. And I have two homework assignments due on Thursday. I'll try to get a post up between then and the weekend though.
You know I was talking about Empress, right? No worries, I'm over that. Though, the next problem is how to get Santana to where everyone else is. I could give the cat PSI Teleport, like I was originally planning to. No stealing my ideas. >.<
I've watched walkthroughs for Mother and Mother 2 (I'm currently playing Mother 2), and I reached the electric tower-thingy before I stopped playing Mother 3. I happen to favor the original Mother.
Wait, so everyone's looking for pieces of a broken music box? Don't tease me, or I'll have to make Santana storm in. XD
Earthbound Zero - somewhat familiar
Earthbound - Very familiar
Mother 3 - All I know about this game is that Lucas is in it.
I see that we are headed to the rainforest place, in EB the enemies there could be quite tough because it appeared later in the story. Does that mean if our group goes to the new world versions of Onett, Twoson, Threed and Fourside that the monsters will be harder there?
I see that we are headed to the rainforest place, in EB the enemies there could be quite tough because it appeared later in the story. Does that mean if our group goes to the new world versions of Onett, Twoson, Threed and Fourside that the monsters will be harder there?
*sigh* Speak of the devil. Forget it, I suppose I'm fine. I mean, there aren't a lot of productive ways to travel a long distance with a cat, so...
Anyway, versions of Onett? I believe we're using a completely different map here, so they wouldn't have versions to begin with. besides, the only one left of those is Fourside. Confirm it it KirurunT or something.
Also, a beastiality joke? In Earthbound? What ever crossed your mind?
Waah?! You copied my idea! (Post #13). Nah, I am pretty sure all of the animals know teleport by default. (I sure hope they do.)My cat is actually watiting just outside of the ship but I left it out because my post was already getting too long... (He's vulnerable now, isn't he?)
Oh yeah, the beasty thing well I figured that most readers would not know its definition. Serebii, the place to learn new vocabulary words! (A fat American joke's just fine, but... >.>)
Thus, you're trying to imply that children should search up obscene words? What has the dictionary become?
Okay, back to Kirurun(T), will Gon's Enemy Index be added to the Discussion Thread? When he actually encounters an enemy, I mean.
Ehehehe... Looks like Zincspider's not the only one who has a hard time spelling/pronouncing my username...
You complain about beastiality in Earthbound, a game where hardly any animals play significant roles in the story (compared to Mother 3 anyway)? Er-hem. Anyway...
First of all, I completely forgot to address coolminun's question about the PSI ability names! Yes, all PSI-users will eventually be capable of using a PSI technique that matches their favourite thing. Yes, some of the favourite thing names will be modified. For example, Gale would have PK Darkness, as that just sounds cooler than "PK Dark Stuff". Also, our characters might feel a bit feverish for a little while before learning new PSI, but only for a minute at most. The most they'll feel is some sort of weird feeling in their heads. To be honest, I found the whole fever thing in Mother 3 kind of bizarre, especially since you have to walk for quite a ways to cure someone of it. (And you think fighting the Barrier Trio with Kumatora having a fever is not fun? I once had the Ultimate Chimera chasing after Lucas while he had a fever. That was DEFINITELY not fun.)
Yes, I'll be updating Gon's Enemy Index here. And I was going to give the music box to Santana initially, but she hadn't arrived yet, so I instead had to give it to Diego. I mainly gave it to him because he seems the most capable of putting it back together (based on his clockwork skills). So if you want it you'll have to have Santana ask Diego to give it to her.
And I have nothing against Earthbound Zero--I really liked the eight melodies bit and Eve--but... there's just not as much to say about it as the other two games. And to be honest, the Thunder Tower is a good place to stop at in Mother 3, because the story gets sad again after that chapter.
(And Raiden193, if you've only played up to Chapter 5 of Mother 3, then how'd you know about the Magypsy mementos, which don't appear until chapter 7? Do you have PSI in real life or something? [/kidding])
Also, addressing Soaring Pikachu this time, we're WAY too early in the RPG to be entering the rainforest just yet. I never said we'd be going into the rainforest--I just said we're going to Quetzal, which isn't completely covered by rainforest. We'll mainly be in a garden-like area instead; it would be foolish for anyone to try to enter the rainforest at this time. Read my description of Quetzal in the second post of this thread if you don't believe me.
Additionally, I think I mentioned this in my first post in the Signup thread, but Onett, Twoson, and Threed no longer exist. Dr. Andonuts has failed to mention this to everyone yet (darn him and his timidness), but after Giygas (darn him again, treating him like Voldemort and refusing to say his name) was destroyed, at some point the world was destroyed and subsequently reborn. For the most part, everyone from the "old world" is long since dead, as are any civilizations that existed then, towns being among them. Some geographical features still remain though, and Fourside magically survived somehow (the reason behind this shall be revealed much later in the RPG).
The above is why Tessie herself doesn't show up in Lake Tess anymore, for example, and why I initially criticised coolminun for mentioning the Bubble Monkey. As for why Dr. Andonuts and the Mr. Saturns are still around... I don't want to spoil much, but it has something to do with Dr. Andonuts being dragged forward through time--you might guess the Phase Distorter had something to do with it. The Mr. Saturns just followed him around. All of this will again be revealed later on in the RPG, probably when either Dr. Andonuts works up the courage to tell everyone the truth about the world (not very likely), or when some other character (most likely someone from Mother 3) reveals that information.
That having been said, I have one Mother 3 character scheduled to appear very shortly in the RPG, though not for very long. Oh yes, and in the Enemy Index I'll also have to list which game the enemy is from, or if that enemy is completely new. That'll be fun...
Okay, to sum up my post, here are two things everyone who's familiar with Earthbound and not Mother 3 should know regarding this RPG:
1. All people and civilizations in the world of Earthbound have died or disappeared (with very few exceptions).
2. Some unknown time after the end of the old world, a new world was reborn... somehow with the same basic geographical features as the old world.
3. With the exception of Dr. Andonuts and the Mr. Saturns and one or two other as-of-yet unnamed NPC's, nobody in the new world knows anything about the old world or its inhabitants. Those who claim to know something are ridiculed for talking nonsense.
EDIT: I have added Bowie to the Main Character List, and Dr. Andonuts to the NPC List. I also finally added stuff to the Quest status and Enemy Index, so you won't see "coming soon" there anymore. Speaking of the Enemy Index, you'll notice that I'm including enemies everyone in the group has encountered, not just Gon. I wonder if it has anything to do with some mysterious connection between the chosen ones...? (And let me know if I missed any enemies! The table doesn't count.)
Well, I don't think Santana could have done anything with it in that state. Broken forgotten things are practically her citizens, so she would have tried to bury it somewhere. X)
I now realize how hard it is to write in a Santana-ish style. For some reason it's much easier for me to write using rather unique adjectives. Finding the perfect blend of "nice" and "pretty" is harder than I thought. >.<
So in the places where the old towns used to be is it like a wasteland or is there something else there now?
What kinds of terrain and enemies are outside of Saturn valley? (if walking on foot)
Kiruria
16th March 2012, 1:37 AM
Yeah, basically a wasteland, or some other towns may have been built over them. Or perhaps the desert expanded and engulfed those three towns in its sandstorms. Nobody really knows what happened to those towns, not even Dr. Andonuts.
And outside Saturn Valley is just a bunch of rocky hills, where enemies are rare. And why are you even concerned about that? We're not even leaving Saturn Valley on foot, and the animals can just teleport out. Saturn Valley is always in an out-of-the way place that's fairly cumbersome to reach on foot anyway. Plus there's the fact that it's in a different location than it was at in Earthbound.
@AWESOMEPUFFS: *facepalm* As I said in my last post, we're not headed into the rainforest. Unless it was just Calvin thinking and assuming that. I guess most non-Quetzal people think Quetzal is nothing but rainforest... yet in reality that statement is about as true for Quetzal as it is for the South America it's a parody of.
Now for Gale to deny that she actually cooks. XD It's bad for her image, but it's her passion. XD I gave her the image of someone who would enjoy art or design, so nobody would suspect that she's actually quite the cook. XD
It's a common theme of mine to put seemingly-badass characters in the kitchen. They're the last people you'd expect in front of a stove and serving meals...but they do! XD
So true. Come to think of it, I was just learning in my biology class about Typhoid Mary, a cook who infected many people with typhoid fever just by handling food. She was released from jail on the condition that she not work with food, but did anyway, infecting more people. Yup, badass cooks FTW.
Anyway, it's that time again: time to move the plot along! About now our group goes sky high, and... runs into trouble already.
25th March 2012, 8:52 PM
So, I was thinking about the magic butterflies. Kyornik's gonna learn pk freeze now, but basically used up his pp by using pk aura
Also, About the upgraded levels of the psi
Pk aura Beta
will be able to lift several objects, as well as add a new ability I call rend. To better aura's use, I read a bit on some of the use of telekinesis on Star Wars. For Pk aura beta, I'd like to use rend. basically, it works by moving an object in two directions simultaneously, producing a cut. This is similar to the dreadful quartering punishment that used to be done to African slaves via horses. it used by making psi bolts appear on Kyornik's index and middle fingers on both hands and he moves his hands in opposite directions causing the targeted area to split in a cut
Pk aura Gamma
will lift heavier object, Rend will cut deeper and be able to cut with one pair of fingers.This is similar to how Yoshimori casts a kekkai in Kekkaishi. A new ability called pulse will be usable. With this, Kylornik will send out a destructive pulse of telekinetic energy that radiates out from his body or he'll be able to condense it into a ball and hurl it so as to not hurt his friends. He'll also gain Crush. This power let him telekinetically crush objects, bones, and bend metal. Works very effectively on robotic enemies and because of its gruesomeness, kyornik doesn't like to use this on organic opponents.
Pk aura Omega
is the most powerful version of this Psi. With this, he can can lift several objects the size and weight of a school bus and send it flying at high speeds. The Rend ability will cause very deep cuts with just a thought and and a glance at the intended target and crush will be even more powerful. He can crush things from the inside, like say a fuel source or the engine for a robotic enemy. The pulse will turn into the Obliterat pulse. With this, Kyornik creates rings of Psi around his body. (Thinks of Ness' Psi magent from smash bros brawl) The rings then grow larger and pulse out in a very wide area. (think shaymin's seed flare) The Psi is very destructive, because it moves the atoms and molecules from the target. This basically disintegrates them into nothing. This also works on energy. Jean Grey did this in the x men movie as well as Darth Vader's apprentice.
Pk freeze alpha
So yeah, the Winters polar bear is finally learning it XD. Because this Psi was passed onto by a guardian animal, this version of Pk freeze is different than what Kyornik would of realized normally. He definitely has the potential to learn many forms of Psi, but Atka just sped up the process a little bit. So, Kyornik's Pk freeze alpha doesn't actually freeze opponents. With this ability, he creates two blue Psi bolts that flash and a snowflake forms. (He casts it just like Lucas does in Brawl). He targets one enemy and the Psi bolt disappears. From that, Katabatic winds blowing at at about 100 mph descend on the opponent and chills them to the bone causing frostbite and numbing. As far as ice, the enemy is coated in frost. (Think of this like Kyurem's glaciate)
Katabatic winds are very powerful winds that can blow at Hurricane forces. They form from the cooler air descending downward because it is denser than warm air. When it comes down, it can move at really high speeds similar to pyroclastic flow of ash from volcanoes. The name of Mistralton City stems from a famous Katabatic wind in France called the Mistral. The one Kyornik uses is similar to the Pierquot. Not sure if I spelled it correctly, as it's an Inuit name. It blows in Greenland and is cold enough to freeze penguins to death. Saw this on the discovery planet documentary Frozen Planet
Pk freeze beta
This is the first version where ice is actually freezes enemies. Kyornik creates the Snowflake again with two blue psi bolts and hurls it at the opponent. The Snowflake spins as it is casted and forms a katabatic wind vortex that surrounds it. (If you've played Megaman starforce 3, Diamond ice uses this) The cold instantly freezes the opponent, but if it misses or the enemy dodges it, Kyornik can set it to stop. The Katabatic winds will then spin like a vortex sucking the intended target into until it is captured. After they are frozen, the Psi will implode and cut the target with shards of ice. (This is very similar to Lightning's blizzara spell in Final Fantasy Dissidia duodecim)
Pk Freeze Gamma
With this Psi, Kyornik causes 6 giant icicles to jut out of the ground and pierces the enemy.The largest icicle occurs directly under the opponent and the rest either converge upon it or just jut out in the hopes of hitting another opponent. Think of Aqua's ice barrage from Kingdon Hearts Birth By sleep and the Black Uranus pin from the World Ends With You) He uses the Psi by forming one giant blue Psi bolt to flash followed by 6 hexagonal snowflakes to form in front of his palm that he slams to the ground. The icicles are very cold to the touch and can cause frostbite and instant freezing. The ice also erodes life quickly, acting as a brumal poison
Pk freeze Omega
Strongest of the freeze Psi and destroys life on the cellular level. Kyornik holds his right arm with his left and slightly crouches. Arctic air then swirls around him and quickly chills the air. His entire body pulses out with bitter cold and a giant ice orca erupts from beneath Kyornik and flies at the opponent while shrieking a predatory cry. The orca then engulfs the opponent in its icy maw and devours the victim. The cold is 200 degrees below 0 and crystalizes cells until they shatter and turn into diamond dust.
Psi continued: So, with Kyornik's Psi, he utilizes psi bolts in all of them. They are all color coded to signify which one he's using. Normal colored ones=Pk aura, Silver=Healing, Green=life up, Yellow with electric sparks=Thunder, Blue/Cerulean=Pk Freeze, Indigo=Psi magnet
Pk nature= Golden diamonds
Pk thunder alpha
So, with this Psi I'll stay true to the randomness of it but only on the alpha level. With Pk thunder alpha, an electrified Psi bolt will flash in the sky above random enemy or area and a yellow bolt of lightning will descend upon the opponent. Kyornik initiates this by shouting the name and snapping his fingers.
Pk thunder beta
Beta will wield control, but not full control. With this one he also gains a new ability called electrocute. So, Beta will call down 4 bolts of lightning. He flashes 4 Psi bolts that appear on all four sides of the opponents, the front, back, left, and right. The bolts then converge onto the enemies like a cage and strikes them. (Think of Terra's Thundara spell from Dissidia) The electrocute ability lets him take the electricity that is contained within an object and guide it to shock an enemy. Very weak at this level, only gives a minor shock.
Pk thunder Gamma
Grants him 3 new abilities to utilize. One is the Spark bolts. With this, he hurls electrified psi bolts at opponents to damage them. (Ness' electrified attacks in melee are basically what these are). Then is the powerful Lightning Line. Kyornik waves his hand in front of him, and 5 bolts of lightning crash along the path. He uses this move just like how Lucas uses his f-tilt. Lucas swats his had across, and pk love erupts along the path and jolts opponents. Kyornik swings his hand in the same way, and the Psi bolts flash out in a similar path, but it purely for aesthetics. The Lightning bolts that strike along the path are what devastates the enemy. The last one is Lightning ray. With this, he cups his hands together and fires a tremendous beam of lightning capable of piercing straight through enemies. laced wthin the blast, are psi bolts that explode in conjunction to blasting the opponent.
Pk thunder Omega
Upgrades the power of the electrocute ability and give Kyornik the ability to use Bio electricity to attack opponents.He amplifies the power by taking into consideration the change in membrane potential of cells. The change in potential gives off very weak electrical charges, but with Omega he can amplify it 10 fold. basically causing an enemie's body to shock itself. The lightning Line makes 7 bolts fall now and also adds a line that goes forward with 9 bolts falling. He casts the forward line by slamming his palm on the ground (Think of Thunder spell from Kingdom Hearts 358/2 or Kefka's Lickity split thundaga in Dissidia) Lastly, he can call down several large bolts of blue lightning to continuously strike several opponents followed by one MASSIVE one to obliterate them into dust. Think of Lightning's Thunder fall from dissidia duodecim and Sveta's Storm ray from Golden Sun Dark Dawn). Kyornik casts the Psi by Raising his right hand into the air with his palm open and facing forward. A psi bolt flashes as well as an orb of discharging lightning (Think of thundaga casting animation of Kingdom hearts 2) followed by the aforementioned attack.
Pk nature and some support psi are next
Hmm, I never imagined how so many of us mentioned dreams in our posts... Wow, you guys are getting more creative in your posts than I thought! It's almost making my own posts sound bland by comparison... Well anyway, thanks to Zekshirom and coolminun for posting. I kinda wish more people would post as well though... makes me wish more people had signed up or something. Oh well--if Ness and Lucas had only three friends accompanying them (two in Lucas' case, since one party member was a dog), I guess it's not bad if we have a small party...
Oh and by the way, to everyone who has not posted yet, you're welcome to make any creative intro you want--as long as it doesn't involve big machines or powerful PSI or huge explosions or anything unreasonable like that. Some suggestions might be:
- Have your character and their animal accidentally teleport to the sunflower field instead of Saturn Valley
- Your character simply went along for the ride in the Skyrunner Mark II and did nothing to fight the UFO's
- Your character did something about the UFO's, but their actions didn't impact the battle that much
- Helping Pilot Saturn with the broken Skyrunner Mark II
I'll have my next post up in a little while. You might say there's a Sanctuary boss coming up! And yes, I'm glad someone paid attention to chapter 6 of Mother 3... you can almost say this part of the RPG is based off of that, only with no Lucas present. And there's more to Hinawa than you might think... you'll see what I mean in my next post.
I also notice no one else is fighting any Foppies. Well, they're kinda uninteresting, so that's not surprising. As for the UFO's, we won't be seeing them again for quite a while, since they mainly patrol the sky and we'll be stuck on the ground for a while. In fact, there will be a bunch more enemies appearing in a little while.
Also, do any of you guys feel like this RPG is running too quickly, too slowly, not enough enemies appearing, things changing too quickly, or anything like that? Any suggestions to improve this RPG would be much appreciated, for I really want this RPG to continue moving along.
Yes, characters without PSI tend to be very interesting--the canon ones most certainly were *cough Duster cough Jeff cough* and tended to have very interesting abilities otherwise. Which in Diego's case is clockwork and in Santana's case is the Miracle Voice and junkyard shenanigans.
Oh no no, I'm not saying that the PSI users are uninteresting! (Yako in all his manliness would totally punch me for saying that.)
Hmm, the lack of posting is a bit of a complication... I was initially glad to have so many people signing up, because at some point later in the RPG I was planning on having the group split up into three separate groups for a while. But now that there are fewer people posting, I highly doubt we'll end up doing that, which will make this RPG longer... Ah well, that can be a good thing.
I have one more RPG to catch up in, and then I'll post here again before Kyornik dies.
That actually sounds pretty awesome. As i read the post, I thought about him becoming the next giygas before reading the later part of the post. Maybe even using the dreaded Pk hex. Out of all the characters, I found Diego to be the most intriguing. An evil split personality that unlocks the potential of Psi sounds very creative. Could definitely see some personality dominance fights, and trust/fear issues between him and the others if DX were to resurface and start attacking everyone with Psi. Just the thought is exciting lol
As for the constant checking of the thread, I do it because this is my first RPG thread and probably the closest thing I've ever been to a fan fiction. @DVB: Interesting idea. A Starman unlocking it? Eh, I dunno. We won't even be encountering Starmen for quite a while--it's not like they go around attacking people all the time. With Giygas gone, they have no incentive to do such things anymore. However, I'm beginning to think of another way DX can come out... and the fact that Diego just happens to have the music box fits perfectly well with it. Once I finish this idea, I'll PM it to you or something. Or maybe I'll just keep it secret. *evil grin*
And yes, that "other RPG" was in fact Echo of Time. I just posted in that, so now there's nothing keeping me from posting in this RPG... oh my!
Never made it far in an RPG for DX to cause trouble so we will see here. Well, there was the Dragoon one. Well, DX can't come out and it is connected to why DVB can't use PSI. When the experiment went awry and Diego headbutted the equipment, the severe voltage and energy kinda locked his powers as if they were unlocked, DX could take over, or even expunge himself from Diego as a living ghost of PSI. Diego himself wouldn't become a Giygas like figure, though DX is a different matter. Made out malevolent thought and restrained negative impulses, he is Hyde to Diego's Jekyll.
@Soaring Pikachu: Good idea. Very good idea. Again you read my mind. Of course, even the randomness has some logic to it, though the logic is crazy at times.
Okay, my post is now up! I apologise for the length of my latest posts--I guess there was a lot of info I wanted to include! Hopefully this upcoming scene will allow me to make shorter posts, since it will be basically wandering and battles. So now everyone can learn a new PSI technique! Everyone except Diego that is. Do what you want with the magic butterflies, though they're very easy to kill. Be careful if you want to try capturing one--I think Gon's will die pretty quickly.
So this next part of the RPG requires a little bit of imagination. Wander around the garden and decide which of the enemies listed will appear. Sounds simple, right? Also, you'll notice that two of the enemies in the list are completely original, one's straight out of Earthbound (the Mobile Sprout), and one's straight out of Mother 3 (the Pigtunia). The Foppy was straight out of Earthbound too, though here they got turned into magic butterflies somehow. You may add whatever little details to these enemies you like, as long as you don't give them abilities other than basic physical attacks and what I specified in their descriptions. For example, it's okay to have a Mobile Sprout kick you, but not to have it use PSI or something. The only enemies that can use PSI here are the Mobile Sprouts, which just use PSI Magnet to drain your PSI powers.
(PSI Magnet is a PSI technique that has not been mentioned in my PSI list, as the ability is slightly advanced for people to use. It will become an option for new obtainable PSI later.)
Kyornik's life was saved. And he got healed for free as well. I'll edit the Character List with everyone's new PSI as people decide on it--so far I have Kyornik with PK Freeze and Gon with Lifeup.
So this is your first RPG, coolminun? Wow. All I can say is, you're making much better posts than what I did when I first started RPing. I know you're still getting the hang of RPG rules and such down, but you seem to be learning well.
coolminun
Actually, can we have them use life up as well? According to memory and earthbound wiki, they can also use life up alpha.
@coolminun: Yes, you're right, the Mobile Sprouts can use Lifeup... That never happened to me when I played Earthbound (PSI Magnet was WAY more common, those annoying bastards) as far as I remember, so I guess I overlooked it. I'll go edit that, it'll make those things harder to defeat. *chuckle*
@Raiden193: Yay! I'm glad to see you're still interested in this RPG! Oh wait--I haven't read your post yet. *goes to read the post*
EDIT: I read your post. Hahaha, I'm starting to really love Mic. Although now you have to make another post in response to what I just posted before you! You can wait a little while on that one if you want, though.
@Everyone: I have updated the Character Lists with Gon and Kyornik's new PSI, finally changed Calvin's favourite animal to the turtle, and added Hinawa to the NPC list. I also updated the Plot Summary.
YOU LIEK???
Santana's a "bad b!tch", ripping up flowers and sh!t.
Kiruria
10th April 2012, 5:43 AM
Oh no, Hinawa will be furious! Actually, no, she won't, given the TONS of flowers in the field. If they were the sunflowers on her grave... well then she might be.
Hmm, provided more people post, this group is actually quite a good size. Nine people in total, if you don't count the characters controlled by people who haven't posted yet. *cough Daylight cough Magikarpenter cough* I think I'll just kick them out after a while...
EDIT: Arrgh, turns out I made a small mistake in an enemy introduction. In Earthbound, Foppies are red. Stronger versions of them are called Fobbies, which are orange. Foppy, Fobby... same difference. Perhaps we can say the sun just made the sunflower field ones look orange, or maybe they're special because they turn into magic butterflies. But still... my bad.
EDIT2: But anyway, I updated the Enemy Index as well. Read it for some laughs--I tried to format the descriptions much like the Earthbound Strategy Guide descriptions and the Mother 3 Battle Memory descriptions. Although I got a little lazy and copy-and-pasted the battle descriptions from those sources for canon enemies.
EDIT3: Gosh, I can't stop making edits. Anyway, I just want to bring back to light the fact that you may come up with your own enemy designs if you feel so compelled to. These cannot be done for current areas (it's too late to design Jardin de Colores enemies), but any enemies for possible future areas will do. It's not required by any of you, and I certainly don't expect anyone to do it, but it's just a fun possibility. In case anyone's interested, I currently have plans for the next enemy locations we encounter to be a whimsical world up in the clouds, and then a music room. Yup, expect to encounter crazy situations in this RPG. And we WILL travel to all the continents in this RPG, so any location in any of them could be a location we visit.
Zekshirom
10th April 2012, 8:01 PM
So, we can make up enemies? And you might use them in the RPG?
Awesome!
Also, is there a chance we might visit Kaishi Village? I'm sure the villagers would like to see Tekina again.
Kiruria
12th April 2012, 3:28 AM
Well, hmm... While it is true that we'll be visiting all seven continents in the RPG, Eagleland happens to be the one we'll travel to last (before entering the rainforest of course), and we probably won't be anywhere near Kaishi Village when we do. But don't worry, I'll make sure there's some way for everyone to return briefly to their homes. In fact, I think I know of a perfect time to do so... so stay tuned!
And I'm still contemplating on whether to do the splitting into three groups later on in the RPG... I guess it will depend on how many people are active then, as well as your opinions on the matter.
EDIT: I will likely be away from my computer for a couple of days thanks to this convention I'm going to. I'll be able to post again on Saturday evening. Until then, don't be afraid to have your character encounter enemies from the list I posted. I guess everyone wants to keep their characters nice and safe, something I would have expected only from Daylight if he's still around.
And Soaring Pikachu... don't go anywhere, I have something planned for Bowie. Ah, what the heck. I'm done with his part of my next post, so I'll just post it now and post Gon's part later. I think Bowie is starting to fulfill the role of "wrong-way tester". The Wrong-Way Tester sees what happens if you go toward a place you're not supposed to go. In the Earthbound/Mother series, the results can be funny sometimes, so they're often worth testing out.
And finally, in case you guys didn't notice, I updated my user title and location for this RPG, just for laughs. I'll probably be updating it throughout the RPG... just because I'm crazy and all. My current user title makes a reference to the Merrygolds.
Well, so far all you have is two groups of goofy gangsters telling you to go away. The worst that can happen is that Bowie will be painted green. And yes, I am well aware of the fact that the Insane Cultists from Earthbound worshipped blue, not green. There is a reason behind the Cult of Green's existence... well maybe. And for those of you familiar with Mother 3, you can be assured that the Pigmasks won't pose much of a threat this time around. In this RPG, they don't even look like soldiers like they used to.
And I finally made Gon's post, sorry for the delay. This game officially stinks now, just like Earthbound.
Oh man, are we gonna meet Master belch? I also have a question about Hinawa's psi gift. Since Kyornik was already in the realization process of pk freeze before she granted the gift is it possible that Kyornik could learn Healing as his gift. I was originally thinking about him learning both freeze and Healing at the same time so he can heal off the frostbite and gangrene he gets from the process, but that sounded a bit greedy. I know Lucas learned like 3 or 4 psi after he was in the hot springs with Ionia, so it might not be that bad if I have 3. Especially since nobody else can use healing and Gon and Kyornik could be like the walking hospital I heal status you heal strength. Your decision, whatever you decide i'm fine with.
Are any aspects from mother 1 going to be in this? Was thinking about the secrets of Psi discovered by Ninten's grandpa, George, and his research.
Perfect. Disregard my post on healing then. But about master belch/barf, if it is him we have to deal with, is the fly honey kyornik found going to be of use? I mean it could be a dump site near the garden that's the cause of the fly swarms, but seeing as this is earthbound it may be either a horde of slimy piles or belch/barf
6th May 2012, 6:30 AM
Well, sorry for my absence, everyone! Fortunately I am planning on posting soon, after I read your posts. But first, to address some questions and such here:
@coolminun: Yes, there will be some Mother 1/Earthbound Zero stuff in this RPG. Not a whole lot, mind you, but you'll just have to see.
And about the number of PSI techniques, yes, while that was certainly true for Lucas, I recall Ness starting out with far fewer techniques (just Lifeup at the beginning, as I recall). And both of them were in a smaller party than our characters are now. Thirdly, it'll be time to learn even more PSI after this upcoming boss fight.
And sorry, but your Fly Honey will not help at all. Master Belch? Come on. That was like my least favourite boss in Earthbound. And plus, I'm not gonna just throw a pre-existing boss into this RPG. I'm more creative than that! And what business would Belch have in a garden anyway? Nope, the upcoming boss will more closely resemble a certain Pokemon...
(Actually, I do have a Mother 3 boss scheduled to show up in the next phase of the RPG, except he won't exactly be a boss. Nor even an enemy, perhaps.)
Also, I want everyone to know that there'll be a new person joining the RPG! chihaya01 will be joining with Naneth, and heading into Jardin de Colores with everyone else. I'll add her info to the character list now. And at this point I'll just delete Louis and Amos, as neither of their creators have been active in this RPG.
EDIT: I started reading some posts. Coolminun, the flower that made Gon laugh was a Merrygold, not a Pigtunia.
As much as that would be interesting and provoke Santana, I find it hard to believe that someone who's in the Jardins de Colores would be able to throw a baseball bat at someone who's barely strayed form the aircraft.
And since minun seems to have thought of something, I'll just fill in the blank.
Wait, minun, can you change it to a thud then a PANG?
Well, it would have been Naneth but with the water theme, I just changed her to Aqua. What, she has a long blue stick? I haven't played Kingdom Hearts >.> Besides, I was going through an evlish phase in my life...
Now for a question! Are we able to learn a new PSI ability in battle or would we have to wait for the battle to end before learning another PSI ability?
Uh, so, I hope we can all get along! Also, to the other two people that also have characters who like cats, were obviously the most original people ever.
@chihaya01: (and this applies to *Kyurem* as well) Your new PSI technique will awaken while you battle the Fleshy Flower. And haha, looks like I'm not the only one who caught my silly Foppy-Fobby error.
@Everyone: Alright, so we now have two new people in the RPG! I added Aqua and Dell to the character list, updated the Plot Summary, and added the No Good Fly ad Fleshy Flower to the Enemy Index. Also, I just got an idea for a new NPC, who I'll be introducing shortly. An NPC who isn't a canon character from the series, for that matter!
chihaya01
9th May 2012, 4:42 AM
Is this npc possibly a prince? Who has PSI abilities? The Poo/Beartiger of the game?
Fobby, foppy, fappy, I think all of those are mistakes that could be ignored.
Also, I hope it's okay if Peppercorn stays for the boss battle then leaves afterwards. He wants to make sure his number one catnip provider survives the battle!
Vileplume!
I have an idea for the ending result of the boss fight. So I realized that this thing can call a large amount of flies to do its bidding and the flies recover hp from drinking its nasty nectar. This puts us in a bad situation, and I realize we have no big offensive Psi like pk love or Psi rockin to deal with crowd control. So what I was thinking, is a team attack of alpha level offensive psi to destroy the enemy. This involves creating large fire within the garden that will land us in the custody of the Quetzal police force. The fire dept is gonna come and help out the fire, but we made a large mess, almost destroyed the Jardin de colores, ended up in jail, and in true earthbound fashion we have to find some cooky way to get out of this situation.
One way I was thinking was an awesome display of Tekina, Gale, and Kyornik's offensive psi teamwork. (Haven't heard from Cal in a long time so Idk if he wants to contribute.
Another way, was for Tekina to set fire to the canopy of a large tree. Yako could then use his swing ability to lift said burning tree and Smaaaaash!! it into the Fleshy flower and end it, while waving the flaming tree around like a burning fly zapper to incinerate the flies. But again I haven't heard from sluggy either so idk.
What do you think? To make it awesome, I'd have to bunny the characters but I'd ask JeanGrey and Zekshirom if its okay with them first. I also want to wait until mostly everybody has their posts on the battle in.
Kiruria
17th May 2012, 3:07 AM
@chihaya01: That's fine. And you can pick a new PSI technique for Aqua to learn now--just pick one from the PSI list at the beginning of this thread. It can be an offensive or non-offensive technique--doesn't matter which. Which reminds me, we currently don't have any users of status-afflicting PSI like Paralysis or Brainshock, nor any users of PK Ground or PK Flash. But I think you were planning to have her learn PK Freeze next? That works too.
@coolminun: Those are both interesting ideas, but the first one would definitely be too hard to pull off. In my next post (which is coming up very shortly), I'll have an NPC come along and briefly help with the battle as well, so hopefully that will make things easier.
@*Kyurem*: Hmm, so you're not deciding to go to Quetzal at all, deciding to pay a visit to Dr. Andonuts instead? Well that is interesting.
Yeah, as I said before, expect a new post shortly.
EDIT: I have posted. Now that the Fleshy Flower is weakened, it should be a bit easier to fight. You may follow Gon's plan, or the ideas coolminun offered here, or even a creative plan of your own to stop the Fleshy Flower. That mystery girl will play a key role in this RPG, but just who is she? And what did she do to the Fleshy Flower?
Aqua is a Lucas, minus the two offensive moves. She provides heals and shields. Her version of PK Love/Rocking is PK Herb which is a Lifeup+Healing. Then it will later evolve to PK Garden where it will be a group effect. I was thinking of Psi Freeze but I got the idea of using the ice for Counter. Shield itself will be a wave of water while Psi Shield will be a bubble. Over all, she does no damage using Psi. I would also like to beg now. Can Aqua learn Aurora Wave? It would work as Gon's Aurora Tracker. She would clear her mind and summon her water. If she opens her eyes however, she'll be able to have the water bounce off of any aurora that is hidden from the eye. It would be helpful if our party is to ever have to split from one another. I will also offer an enemy! Or two!
Dancing Winds- Unlucky gusts of wind that blew in the wrong place at the wrong time. The Aurora Particles that hid in the air mixed with the wind to form a humanoid wind being. They fight using Psi Wind. They enjoy kicking up dust storms.
Cactus Crabs- A shellfish that lives in the desert. How did it get there? It's a mystery. Through further research, it is believed that they may actually be scorpions that were mutated by the Aurora.
Why they have a desert theme, I don't really know.
Gale's progression is like that of an offensive mage's, therefore, she will probably be the last person to learn healing in the group, she's no lady after all. XD I plan to focus of "weather"- like offensive PK first, therefore, the next one she'd probably learn is PK Ice. XD Overall one of the harder-hitters, at the expense of healing. XD She's the antithesis of the party Staff Chick alright. She's a Black Magician Girl. XD
coolminun
19th May 2012, 6:11 PM
Kyornik grows with powerful offensive psi used mostly for crowd control. When having to focus that on one opponent, the damage is beyond destructive. He's gonna learn some healing psi. Life up and healing to the gamma level and psi magnet to the omega level. No status psi is needed because his offensive psi causes status. Freeze is self explanatory, thunder equates to paralysis, and Pk nature is akin to flash because it uses golden light. it just doesn't instant kill
@chihaya01: Yeah, Aqua kinda came across to me as more of the supportive type of PSI user. And she totally is a Lucas, especially since she's one of the youngest in the group (besides Santana). And no, you're only allowed one Favourite Thing move. So Aqua will have PK Herb or PK Garden, but not both. It's only fair to the others. Personally I think PK Garden would just sound better. And you're right, Counter isn't on the list of available PSI yet. That's because it's slightly more advanced, especially when compared to Shield. Same thing goes for PSI Magnet. And the Offense/Defense modifier spells will be... completely omitted in this RPG, just so we don't have too much PSI to deal with. I'll let Aqua learn Counter though, just because.
Also, there are some things you have to keep in mind about Counter. Counter is not a shield. The user still takes the full amount of damage from the attack--but the enemy also receives that damage. Also, Counter only works on physical attacks. The only physical attacks the enemy performs in this battle are the Fleshy Flower's leaves and the No Good Flies' charging. An incoming liquid attack (was that the Fleshy Flower's nectar?) would hardly count as a physical attack, not to mention there's no such thing as PK Water (unless PK Fire and PK Freeze collide, perhaps). If this is not what you had in mind, you might want to consider editing your post and changing Aqua's newly learned PSI to Shield instead.
@Soaring Pikachu: 1. Yes, but not now. And not anytime soon in fact. PK Starstorm is a REALLY powerful PSI technique, so nobody will learn it until much later in the RPG. 2. Where are we going next? That is a secret! But I'll give you one hint: we're leaving Quetzal for another country tomorrow. And we'll be learning our Favourite Thing technique before we leave. There is a specific order of places we will be visiting, just like there was in Earthbound, kind of.
@Jean Grey: Yup, that sounds about right. And her PK Darkness (that seems to be the best name for it) will be quite formidable indeed... though the mystery girl will probably think it's not dark enough even then.
@coolminun: You sure have a knack of guessing things correctly! And... you know, you could give PK Nature a more offensive effect (I was thinking something more along the lines of the Pokemon attack Frenzy Plant, or Earth Power), and have Kyornik learn PK Flash later. And also, Hex isn't considered an offensive PSI, and therefore doesn't have the PK suffix. Nor does it require an incantation, hence why the mystery girl didn't need one.
But yeah, since nobody had their character learn Hex, I decided it would be fun to introduce another character who uses it... Well, you know what... Even though Hex isn't an offensive PSI, it's probably about as offensive as PK Flash is, and Hex is already the name of a Pokemon attack. So to avoid the confusion between the two, I think I'll just call that PSI PK Hex... Yeah, good idea, coolminun. PK Hex it is. I guess I should add it to the Offensive PSI list then... well I'll do that later, because I'm lazy and tipsy now.
6) My post has been edited with the new rules about counter, if anyone cares, go ahead and read it. If not: I replaced the acidic nectar with leaves.
Paint Can: A heavy paint container with arms. It can cause poison or blindness with its paint!
Paint Roller: Paint Can's trust sidekick! A paint roller that grew arms. When it isn't crashing into you, it's busy dumping a Paint Can on you.
Paint Brush: A simple paint brush that has somehow learned how to move. They are no threat when alone but in numbers they can attract lone Paint Cans and will vandalize walls anything they can.
Oh yeah, forgot to remark on your enemy designs! Those are rather interesting designs, I must say! The desert enemies you proposed will obviously be best-placed in Scaraba, and yes, we will be visiting Scaraba at some point in this RPG. The paint enemies... well... Maybe they can appear at the hideout of one of the colourful cults, or in Fourside (we'll be visiting that city as well). I'll find some place to fit them in...
So I just did a post... but it will only apply to Kyurem. Its purpose is to help Dell arrive in Quetzal. I'm currently waiting on both him and DVB (and maybe Zekshirom) to post before ending the Fleshy Flower battle.
Updated. Anyone have an ideas for Diego's clockwork inventions. Only one I have left would allow him to act as a reservoir of PSI energy. Since his actual skills are locked, his PSI meter is sitting there unused.. He plans to make a device that will allow him to use that PSI to restore the PSI Meters of others. But besides that, not sure of what else to use regarding Clockwork weapons .
So now we have a Nearly Headless Flower on our hands! As for clockwork stuff... I know it's kind of unoriginal, but what about a pendulum that can put enemies to sleep? Some clocks do have pendulums after all, and nobody in the group knows Hypnosis. Maybe also a Spyglass that can spot enemies that may be hiding or disguising themselves.
If Aqua is a Lucas, Gale is definitely a Kumatora as you said, Kiruria. XD Heavy on the offense, be it magical or even physical, but has the worst healing. XD Perhaps I should give Gale a hidden talent for rock music. XD I never had a singing character, ever, and it would be fun if she would be the first one. XD Maybe it first shows itself later on. XD
Great idea on the earthpower visual for the PK nature look Kiruria. I've been thinking alot about the spell faith from Kingdom hearts Birth by Sleep and Roxas' 13 beams Event Horizon limit break. Just patiently waiting for Kingdom Hearts 3Ds. As for Pk nature, it's not a twisting vines kinda thing. What it is, is the power contained within a natural disaster.
When most people think of a nature attack, they think maelstrom, tsunami, earthquake, volcano, etc. These are just the forms the energy takes and we know the destruction wrought by this energy. This attack manifests that energy into a golden light from the ground up and is imbued with rotating and pulsing golden diamonds. Just like how Lucas uses Hexagons in Pk love, Kyornik uses golden diamond shaped Psi with with crescents.
Still seeking advice on this move.
As for DVB, How about a clockwork boomerang. It could have sharp blades on it to slice enemies and you could program it so that no matter what, it always comes back. Last airbender referance lol.
DVB: Not the most original idea in the world but how about shooting bolts and gears at enemies or you can make some sort of device that replicated Psi powers.
So I was wondering, after the Fleshy Flower is defeated, can Aqua try to grow a miniature version of the plant using a seed that the original one drops? It would act like the chicken eggs in Mother 2 and 3 and slowly grow. Maybe it can be sold to some botanists for money at any point in game if we're to meet one.
I have an idea for Pk aura. Since Kyornik doesn't have any status Psi. I'd like to add another sub ability. I'm thinking of Haste at the beta level and up, Since Pk aura moves things telekinetically, How about the body moving faster. While using this, Kyornik has to concentrate a lot, so he can't use any other psi and this is not like the offense up psi. This maintains a constant energy flow from Kyornik that causes the thing in question to move faster. The psi does nothing to the target's mind, but only to their body. So for instance if Gale decided she wanted to whack an enemy in the face, and Kyornik used Haste on her, She'd be in complete control of what she wanted her body to do, it would just move faster than normal. If the body cannot handle the speed up or they are starting to get tired and can no longer maintain the energy for it, the Psi will end so as not to over-exert the body. This restriction is not applied to the Omega level.
The Psi at its basic level moves bodies faster, but not too fast that they go beyond human standards if used on a human that is, and he can only cast it on 2 people. Also, the more in shape and stronger the body is, the faster they can go. So since were constantly fighting enemies and gaining experience, when casted on teammates their speed grows. This Psi also demands that someone protect Kyornik or put up a shield around him while he's using this as he basically can't move when using this on some one else. This is why Aqua is extra awesome, because she can place counters on her teammates. If it's on himself, he can only use physical attacks.
The Gamma level can speed up 3 people at once. This will be useful for both the psi and non psi teammates. The Omega level can speed up 5 teammates, and also had the very dangerous ability in localized haste. With localized haste, it can speed up the progression of a certain target. For example, if we're fighting a robot it can use up its energy reserves a lot faster and If we manage to poison a target with our bag of snakes or the deathly progression of Pk Hex, Hast can spread the poison faster and speed up the effects of pk hex. It can also cause heart attacks in organic enemies.
Oh, and Chihaya01, what about Aqua forming one way counters. I remember in Zatch Belle, the mamodo Tia could cast shields around the opponents that would let attacks go in, but not let them go out and reflected the attack back at the user if they tried to attack back. It'd be a way to contain them in one spot, stop them from attacking, and we could focus our offensive psi or attacks on them since the counter lets things in but not out. In this way, you'd have a form of pseudo offensive psi.
chihaya01
27th May 2012, 5:50 PM
I really like that idea, but let's wait for her counter to reach gamma level. Her counter currently creates a thin disk of ice in front of the target. Her beta level counter would create a larger and thicker disk of ice which is also infront of her target while her gamma creates a dome of very thick ice around a person.
In order to weaken it, I think the Counter Prison should be weaker than her counter to under power the attack.
Zekshirom
Talking about custom PK powers, I made one up myself. PK Comet, or suisei majikku. It basically takes the form of a comet(s).
Alpha is when Tekina summons a few small stars from space and they fall down, a golden aura around them. They deal a few points of damage.
Beta has 5 medium comets rain down, looking the same as the small stars. Only thing is is that they are rocks now, not stars. They deal twice the amount of damage that alpha does.
Gamma has 3 comets now. Three times as powerful as alpha. At this level, Tekina has to rest a bit, LITERALLY.
Omega is one HUGE comet going down on the enemy. This attack is FIVE TIMES as powerful as Alpha. Only downside is that Tekina falls unconcious after using this, since it takes up much of her energy.
So, yeah. The tiredness might trigger something, he he he.
chihaya01
29th May 2012, 11:06 PM
1) A star is a giant ball of burning plasma and gasses and all that jazz.
2) A comet is like melting ice that flies through space and has a pretty tail.
3) If a rock is falling from space and enters Earth's atmosphere it is a meteoroid. When the meteoroid crashed, whatever is left of it is a meteorite.
4) If I replace comet with meteoroid, your Omega attack would have to be a very large meteoroid to stay large when it crashes into Earth.
5) I think a falling star would do more damage than a rock but it would also destroy our solar system or damage it greatly.
6) Psi Starstorm comes in Alpha and Omega.
The attack itself would be very over powered. It would cause problems for Earth too. The hippies wouldn't like that and neither would I Maybe if you replace the stars and falling space rocks with plasma from a star, it would work a bit better or is that what Starstorm is?
This is enough of 6th grade science class for one day. *Ruins my scientific talk by watching Charmed*
@DVB: For a long-ranging attack, how about gear-based shurikens? You see, I'm appealing to a certain RPG where Diego was a ninja... an ice ninja, to be exact. ;)
@coolminun: I'm not too familiar with any of the Kingdom Hearts games, but I like the PK Nature appearance idea. We'll be learning our favourite-thing PSI very shortly (either in my next post or the one after), so keep that in mind. Haste would be a good ability for Kyornik to learn later on. We'll be learning another PSI technique when we travel to the next country.
@Zekshirom: Yeah, I agree with coolminun on PK Comet's resemblance to PK Starstorm. Especially given the stars in PK Starstorm actually were comets in Super Smash Bros. However, while it is true that in the games PK Starstorm didn't have different levels, that can always change. For example, PK Flash had different levels in Earthbound, but not in Mother 3. Also, PK Ground was originally a technique without levels in Mother 3, but I gave it levels in this RPG. I suppose the same could be true of PK Starstorm, but it's still way too early for anyone to learn it even at its most basic level.
@chihaya01: Pfft, grow a miniature Fleshy Flower after defeating it? If you did that, you would drive people away with its stench once it blossoms. But if you absolutely must, go on ahead with it. And hey, maybe this "Mini-Fleshy" could turn against Aqua at some point when it grows up, kind of like how Audrey II did in Little Shop of Horrors. (Just to present more similarities for fun, Audrey II was turned evil by the light of a solar eclipse; the Fleshy Flower was turned evil by a mysterious aurora.)
@Soaring Pikachu: That would depend on the story. What do you have in mind?
@Everyone: I'm working on my next post right now. Looks like Dell's gonna miss out on the Fleshy Flower battle--which will end when I post.
Ok, haste has been approved. Yeah, He's not going to get that ability until he learns pk aura beta, which will be after he learns pk thunder, which is after pk nature lol. Also, the Psi hastens the ability to cast Psi, so Psi can be used in quick succession. The Omega level versions Localized haste can speed up the Psi I also have an idea for some monsters.
King Nanuk- Giant Polar bear
Description-Very similar to Beartic but more fierce and covered in scars with crimson claws
Psi- Pk Freeze Gamma,Pk wind Gamma, Offense up, Shield
Attacks- Freezing Fangs( immobilizes or causes frostbite), Rending claws, Intimidating Roar(Lowers opponents defense), Diamond dust gaze (This diamondises opponents)
I'm thinking this could be the boss of the Winters Story
Fireman- Quite literally, a human firefighter possessed by ghostly flames
Psi- Pk fire beta
attacks- Blazing fist, Blazing kick, axe chop
Drops: Willow wisps
Firewoman- Quite literally, a human female firefighter possessed by ghostly flames
Psi- Pk fire beta
attacks- Blazing Slap, Blazing kick, brandish fire extinguisher
Drops: Willow wisps
Tiger-Moth (Chimera)
Description-Tiger head, claws, and tail with large eyespot moth wings and skinny moth legs, and abdomen
Attacks- Rending claws,Intimidating roar(Lowers opponents defense) Sparkling scales (Think silver wind), Mysterious powder( Random status effect)
Psi-Hypnosis
Drops: Magic butterfly
Hungry couch-Hmm- I wonder where that couch potato went??
Description Large Red couch with razor sharp teeth
It moves side to side when runnong and is very loud. Qutie scary
Drops: Loose change-approximately $1.35
Death Notes
Description: All of our favorite instruments become an orchestra of death. This battle takes place in the music suite at kyorniks school, which is the Summers branch of Reynard University. Can be the Summers Boss
Psi- All of our starting Psi and Our signature Psi up to the gamma levels, except for Aqua, in which her instrument casts shields and counters(including the counter prison) +Pk garden/herb
Special skill-Pk Hex melody (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwlD5UPqfAw) Hahahaha While this melody plays, Pk Hex will slowly sap us of strength and cause some of its status effects. The mysterious NPC girl's instrument taught our instruments the melody. I was also thinking Gon's instrument could also cast Refresh.
This fight is designed to be really hard. There is sympathetic turmoil because they are our favorite instruments, and they fight basically the way we do. We also are on the clock, because Pk Hex is slowly killing us and making us feel ill. Gon's and Aqua's instruments basically heal and protect their allies, while the rest attack with very powerful Psi or launch themselves at us. Dell's instrument will shoot musical notes similar to how his sentry gun fires. I for one would not like to be crushed by my piano XD. The key to this fight lays in Santana and her Miracle voice as well as us taking out the defensive instruments first.
How do these sound? I also wanted to know if we're going to have an underwater part of the RPGand if so, can we be chimerafied with sea critters? I'd wanna be part orca of course.
Interesting ideas, coolminun. However, I already have the Winters stuff all planned out, and to be honest, that polar bear would not really work there. However, it will most definitely work for when we go to Sunrise. Maybe not as a boss, but as a really powerful enemy stationed just before it (a mini-boss, perhaps). I'm planning to have lots of monsters appear on Mt. Itoi, where there will certainly be lots of snow and ice.
I really like the Death Notes idea though. In fact, I already have something planned for the next phase of this RPG that is somewhere along those lines. Yes, people, get ready to put your musical instruments to use when we leave Quetzal for the next destination. (And whaddaya know, I was just watching a Death Note episode last night...)
And as for the underwater part... I'm kinda debating on it. If I do decide to implement it, that will be the area we explore in Summers--at a coral reef just off the coast of it. And earlier on, you already gave me an idea of who the Summers boss might be...
And the Fireman and Firewoman look like they might fit in either Scaraba or Dalaam. I haven't decided which yet. They themselves are seeming like a combination of the Psychic Psycho, Lingering Spirit, and Enraged Fire Plug (in the woman's case)--should be interesting. Although, I think the name Burning Man would be funnier, given that's the name of a real-life festival in the middle of the desert.
Well, if you mean the Heavy Lighthouse as the boss, remember it was already destroyed by Atka's Pk freeze gamma when he rescued Kyornik. Oh yeah, Kyornik lost his bat so he doesn't have a weapon. Is it okay if he steals a broom stick and uses this as his weapon. For his final weapon which he gets much much much later, I'd like it to be a chinese Guan dao called Cerulean Moon's Maelstrom. This weapon amplifies Psi ten fold as well as increases all other stats similarly to lucas' magic rod. Oh man I loved that weapon XD.
I kinda like bo staffs and pole arm weapons
As for the fireman and firewoman, I was thinking Fourside's fire dept. Similar like how you had to fight all kind of fire enemies in Moonside. But since it is a fire dept, and they exist everywhere they can be in any area I guess.
Kiruria
@coolminun: Heavy Lighthouse? Close but no cigar. That's all I can say. And as for the weapon... For Lucas' magic rod I take it you mean the Mystical Stick? Yeah, I totally agree with you there. And Kyornik's ultimate weapon can raise his PSI capabilities quite a lot... maybe not ten-fold, but still quite a lot. As for his current weapon, the answer is no. Not because I feel like being mean to you. It's because after Dell stole the Magnum Air Gun from Dr. Andonuts, I don't want an innocent and unimportant maid to suffer the same fate. Actually, you won't even need the broomstick, and you'll see why in the morning (in RPG time) when I do my next post.
A squirt if water to the face maybe? Anyone have other ideas that fit the water theme?
Yay for Aqua being vegetarian, psi power regeneration will be sooooo much easier. Can there be magic tofu being sold in the town's version of Chinatown? A vegan/vegetarian friendly version of the gelatin?
Brainshock ideas
I was thinking about when Trip's Frillish used water pulse on Snivy I think. It created a sphere of water that pulsed on the inside to damage the poke, then it exploded. You could have the spheres ripple with your voice or some type of ultra sonic sound that booms inside the sphere directly affecting the mind of the foe.
That or I was thinking Water rays. By rays, I mean like water that looks like lightning and zaps the mental state of the for. You know how both moves like ice beam and thunderbolt basically look the same except diff colors and effects? Well just have the same ray firing bolt but its made of water. Or how about you take the rays literally and create water shaped sting rays that zap the mental state of foes?
Your charm could gather with bubbles before glowing a brilliant blue or even sea green. I've always imagined brainshock as firing green lightning at the foe for some reason, but sea green rays reminds me of Varia's Levi from Katekyo Hitman Reborn XD
I'll post for Tekina after Zekshirom posts. I don't want to just commandeer a person's character like that, when the next actions are this open.
i also have an idea for some enemies for us Kiruria. How about an anti-Team to us. There are currently 8 of us within the group and 6 can use psi. What if we had a main team as our villains. Just like how Lucas had Claus as "The Masked Man" to thwart their efforts by pulling the other needles and kicking their asses, we can have a group of opponents the same age as us and are basically our opposites so to speak. The news reports say that people all around the world are gaining psi, so it's not just us or enemies.
We can all create a new character that was captured by the starmen and brainwashed or misguided into believing that what we are doing will bring about the destruction of the earth, and so therefore they oppose us. It could even be something like all of us who have missing family members Like Ari and Pablo could become swayed/brainwashed by the Starmen and develop Psi to fight us. For those of us that don't have family or friends missing, we could make up a new character, or our friends could become abducted, like Kyornik's friend Blake or Aqua's friend from school.
I know that this is earthbound, so going to the different areas and collecting the music box pieces is basically it, but we are set in the world of Mother 3. The starmen could warp the minds of our characteres into thinking, that what we are doing is trying to bring about the events that caused the actual apocalypse of Mother 3's time. they'd still be the same people on the inside, but their belief that what we are doing is unwavering. This will bring serious emotional turmoil and drama into the Rpg just like mother 3 did.
@chihaya01: Actually it's spring everywhere in the world now. About May or so. Meaning the weather in Winters will be a little chilly (as it usually is), but still rather pleasant. Summers will be even more pleasant, but that's not where we're headed next.
@DVB: Yes, there will be, once we get to Winters. I'm even betting Pilot Saturn will be willing to give Diego a spare Skyrunner part if he asks nicely.
@coolminun: Do you honestly believe I'd be willing to reveal something like that about the Starmen now? That's an interesting point though, especially considering there have been no reports of Starmen actually attacking civilians, or even appearing anywhere besides on a screen for that matter.
EDIT: I just updated the Plot Summary and the Character List (with the new PSI). I also added Pilot Saturn to the NPC list for the heck of it, and added the Salty Flower to the Enemy Index, even though it (probably) isn't an enemy.
Also, I now want to call attention to Sluggy and AWESOMEPUFFS, because they have not posted in a long time. I'll give you two a week to post, either in the RPG or here in the discussion thread with a reason why you were gone, otherwise Calvin and Yako will be considered out of the RPG. Santana and Bowie are coming close to that fate as well.
I'll interpret that as a 'ping', to which I reply 'pong'. Resuming position shortly.
SIDE-NOTE: As a side-note, wouldn't it be easier to use Comic Sans MS for Mr. Saturn dialogue? It already seems like enough of a radical font.
Kiruria
26th June 2012, 10:09 AM
Hmm, that font thing is an interesting idea. I'm now tempted to try it out and see if it works.
testing is testing, boing. rpg is what to happen? Ding ding! Will try using capital letter. maybe not work, zoom.
Eh, it's a different font, but it doesn't seem to resemble the Mr. Saturn font that well. Damn forums don't provide too wide a font selection. But it's STILL an interesting idea, so feel free to use it if you like. (This applies to anyone!) And you could have easily taken my post here as a "Marco" and your reply as a "Polo", but same difference. As I already said via VM, I'm glad to have you back. :) (Yay, the smiley actually works now!)
Oh, what do you think of the idea about us creating an opposing team to ours but the members are our missing friends or loved ones? I was originally thinking about them being brainwashed by the starmen, but since we actually don't know anything about the starmen, I'm not so sure they'd be the appropriate outlet for our strife. If you do agree that we could do it, I have plans in mind for Blake.
Kiruria
27th June 2012, 2:51 AM
@coolminun: That's an interesting idea. Maybe it can be a side-plot at some point. But keep in mind, not everyone has had someone they know go missing, and the people who are missing have absolutely no means of contact with the main characters.
Would anyone else be interested in participating in such a side-plot? This can be with either someone who knows your character or someone completely new. It doesn't have to be a family member or friend; it can even be an acquaintance, such as a classmate or a barista at a coffee house your character frequently visits. I'll probably implement it soon, as it's nice to offer other points of view once in a while. In this side-plot I'd be controlling Ari, Gon's little sister and one of the people who went missing. And probably Magic (the DCMC guitarist) and Lucas and President Sanford as well.
@Raiden193: Also, I've been thinking about the Mr. Saturn font a bit more, and I think the Courier New font might work:
this font is amazing ding? Or is boring? DO NOT KNOW IS AMAZING. dakota.
Hmm, I think that looks a bit better...
Also, many of you have probably figured out that there are seven music box pieces in all, and there also happen to be seven countries in the world. Yes, I'm planning on having a music box piece in every country. Meaning we'll be hopping from country to country collecting the pieces, and then traveling to the rainforest once the music box is complete. One idea I had when I started this RPG was to at some point (probably after we're done in Winters) split the group in half or even in thirds, so that more than one piece can be collected simultaneously. Doing so will make the RPG shorter and will also make it so that everyone has fewer other characters to worry about. It also makes it harder on my part because I have to keep track of all the different groups at the same time, but I'm perfectly willing to do that if there's only two or three groups. On the other hand, if we don't split up, we'll all be able to stay together, therefore making battles a bit easier to win. However, it will make the RPG much longer because we'll all be traveling to all seven countries one after another. And by taking longer, more drastically evil things will be more likely to happen as time goes on.
So I'd like to hear some of your opinions on whether we should split up or not. I'm currently leaning more towards splitting up into two groups then reuniting afterward, but that's a tentative plan.
DVB
As long as my character is grouped with who he wants to, I suppose I have little problem. Though as Diego is the one fixing the Musicbox, kinda wondering about that
coolminun
28th June 2012, 5:10 AM
Honestly i think we should stay together. Makes it feel more earthboundy. But, if we implement the side plot opposing peeps, then i don't mind breaking off for a short while. Something on the lines of Shururi, Ari, and Blake going off to find a music box piece and Gon, Tekina and Kyornik going to engage them to get it first. One group wins one group loses until we basically have to settle this with an all out battle. "Battle" doesn't have to be taken literally, I'm sure we could come up with some creative way to win without the cliche of super demonstration of strength.
I hope everyone is okay with a homosexual high school boy being in my post.
I think the group should stay together. I have no reason for this, I just think they should stay together. I wouldn't mind splitting up, just no gender divided teams please. Maybe we can travel together to the country then split up there. Afterwards we could all join together for the boss battle then head to the next country and just do it like that.
Oh, that would be awesome Chihaya. Please do if you can. I was trying to find a way to color it, but could not. By all means be my guest. Thank you if you can get this done
@coolminun: Wow, that's a pretty cool design! Can't wait for Chihaya's friend to colour it!
@chihaya01: Mentioning anime and video games, yes. Teleporting to school, no. And besides, we have stuff to do in Winters, so Aqua would be interrupted anyway. And it would be unfair to the others if one person could just teleport all over the place. So if you could take out everything after the teleportation, that would be nice.
Cool, and thanks. The reason why its not green and with leaves or flowers, is because it's not based on the stereotypical "look" of nature which involves trees. The power of Pk Nature is the energy that is contained and unleashed in Natural disasters. The reason why I chose golden light, is due to the look of the earth power pokemon attack, in which golden light erupts from the ground.http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Earth_Power_(move) I chose a diamond shape also, because it's my favorite shape and it has 4 sides which goes hand in hand with the 4 seasons of Nature
If this gets approved, I think this will be very interesting
Pk Surfin' 5119
This, is a new type of signature offensive Psi to be used by Kyornik's friend Blake. Pk surfin is an interesting Psi, that has one secondary effect. it's called Drain. It steals about 25% of hp from opponents while causing damage and steal a small percentage of pp at the basic levels. At the higher levels, it steals more hp and pp.
Like Kyornik's psi, it has several different forms it manifests in.
Pk Surfin' alpha
Blake creates two spiraling vortexes in his palms and creates a 10 ft wide by 7 ft high tidal wave that swamps the battlefield.
Pk Surfin beta
Creates a 20 by 14 ft wave that swamps battlefield
Surf Line- Creates 5 geysers of water from the ground
Pk Surfin' Gamma
Creates a 40 by 28 ft wave that swamps battlefield
Surf Line- Creates 5 larger geysers of water from the ground
Rip Surge- Creates a flowing current of water that shreds opponents while draining them
chihaya01
6th July 2012, 5:27 PM
You fused Magnet with Psi Magnet, a secondary effect that would be what, hypothermia? Then there's. Damage to everyone. I'm also guessing this guy is your rival so battling him would be somewhat interesting. Will the character himself have downfalls like Aqua and how she can only learn assisting Psi or is he like Poo and is talented in everything?
Also, speaking of you, can you reply to Tekina, plz?
coolminun
7th July 2012, 5:52 AM
Well, Blake is based of a real friend of mine, so he's a bit like Poo. His downfall, would lie in his hot hotheadedness and his inability to masterfully utilize psi outside of Pk aura and Pk Surfin'. He doesn't really have much of an imagination, so his attacks can be a tad bit predictable and thus easily countered. He is very physically strong however and his Pk aura is on par with Kyornik's
Zekshirom
11th July 2012, 9:00 PM
I thought of a new enemy type.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Shogun-ja: A black suited ninja with a samuri's shoulder and knee-guards. It carries a blade with the scent of clay and bones. It mostly resorts to psysical attacks, but can use PSI and is not afraid to in tough times.
It can use PK Fire, PK Wind, and PK Aura.
coolminun
17th July 2012, 3:36 PM
Cool beans on the new invention.
New enemies
Facepalm tree
large Palm tree that raises its stats by face palming itself. Found in hot climates like Scaraba oases and Summers.
Just like those tree enemies from earthbound, they burst into flames for massive damage when defeated
Psi-Yonara
A ghost of a japanese woman. Capable of using Psi magnet, Shield, and one random Psi of the target. (This also includes signature psi)
Obsolete cell phones
A cell phone that came to life after it was discarded for an upgrade by its owner. It has no keypad, no touch screen, no internet, cheesy 8 bit audio ringers, and no text function.(My god, utter garbage!) It felt slighted for having been discarded for the newer, sleeker, compact, and better models. It can produce radio waves that make people feel strange and electrocute people. Because they lack alot of the functions, they have extraordinary battery life which means they have a lot of HP. They'd target all the new models and the Apple stores lol
Sadistic Sea Gull
Some of the seagulls left over from the cult classic "The Birds" are still around and still pissed off at humans. These gulls are large and love nothing more than causing human suffering. They can crap and barf on you to make you feel nauseous, They have sharp beak for pecking, can steal your shiny objects, large wings can whip up powerful gusts in the form of Pk wind, and they can throw bird mites at you similar to how the yetti like enemies could throw fleas in Mother 3
Found in Winters, and Summers
Confounded Guardian
Our guardian animals turns on us at some point due to Aurora corruption. They use Psi and abilities to try and defeat us. This will make Aqua's Psi Garden a very good psi to have available to try to turn them back to their normal selves. They could be like the intermediate boss before the actual boss of the area, except for kyornik in Winters since the intermediate boss might be the King Nanuq Polar bear and the fact that a lot of or characters hail from Winters.
chihaya01
17th July 2012, 6:48 PM
*Imagining a ghost woman using Garden* I wonder if Garden can put lost souls to rest...maybe when it's stronger. I think we should have a berserk ailment in the RP caused by Aurora Radiation. It could be called Tainted Aura and it would cause you to lose your senses and attack your allies. Aqua's Psi Garden, a soothing melody, a favorite food, or a Calming Flower/Exotic incense. We can create some sort of new item that'll have a calming effect. You can also attack your ally to return them to their senses but that may not help your friendship. I also think we should add something to make the game a little more realistic. A threat gauge. The enemies will tend to attack the person who does that most healing and the one that does the most damage. Once someone attacks them however, their focus may be moved to the person who just attacked them instead of the one that is a threat. If they are not defeated quick enough, they return to attacking the main threats.
coolminun
17th July 2012, 10:36 PM
Oh, I like that idea Chihaya. When I was thinking of the Death Notes enemies, I was saying that Aqua and Gon's instrments are the main healers and defensive ones, so they should be taken out fist because constantly healing and putting up counters would kill us.
chihaya01
18th July 2012, 1:04 AM
So I was thinking of a new area.
Nageki no Mori: Forest of Grief.
A forest of Evergreens and snow that's south of Academy Town where Aqua's Aunt lives. It can be a haunted forest where ghosts and possessed things attack us. Maybe some spirits from here possess those instruments if that is still going to happen.
I have a feeling that Tekina would be protected by Densetsu, so she wouldn't be corrupted. I also thought of something else for that same jewel.
Castle of Densetsu
During the project, Tekina and one other person in the group would be pulled into Densetsu to test their strength and their bond as friends. I already know who I want this to be, so don't ask to be the person.
It would take the form of a grand, golden castle, and the enemies would be...
Tre-scare Chest: A treasure chest taking delight in scaring people. It can use PK Fire and PK Wind.
Tiny Statue: A small red statue that has come alive to turn away intruders. It can use whatever PK attack that matches it's color, so it uses PK Fire.
Guard Statue: A medium white statue that has come alive to turn away intruders. It is white, so it can use PK Wind.
Wild Statue: A large multicolored statue that has come alive to turn away intruders. With so many colors on it, it can use PK Aura.
The boss would be in a large golden room, which would suddenly turn black. The boss would be...
Guardian Spirit: A large statue in the shape of a samurai. It could use it's sword to attack, and can use PK Fire, Pk Wind, and PK Aura.
Once it was defeated, a piller of light would appear, and inside would be a sword with a golden handle, and the characters 'プロテクター' would be on the blade, meaning "protecter." The sword would go into a white seath, and it would drop into Tekina's hands. She and the other person, who shall for now not be named due to spoliers, would then be teleported out of the jewel and back to the others. When out, the jewel would then go back onto it's necklace around Tekina's neck.
chihaya01
18th July 2012, 4:14 PM
It's like that one in Mother 3 except they have our powers and they are our favorite instruments. They can also use our signature Psi moves.
DVB
18th July 2012, 5:07 PM
That would be an interesting case, especially if Diego's counterpart used PK. Diego was born with the ability but when the accident occurred, he damaged himself so he would rendered unable to use PK though he still has the 'PK Meter'
Super cool idea Zekshirom. I remember you mentioning a sword for Tekina when we were doing the sign-ups. I'm guessing this would be tekina's final weapon and boost her Psychic and physical powers. If it gets approved by Kiruria, I can't wait to read about it. Reminds me of Magicant and Moonside. Moonside more so, because it's just two people. Speaking of Moonside, I thought that part of the game was crazy fun. The enemies were dangerous, but I made sure to buy the pendants before I left.
I hope we get to go there when we reach Fourside and investigate the disappearance of the mayor.
Also, Zekshi, What does Pk harp actually do? Is it an status Psi or what? I know we discussed the thing about healing Kyornik's sleep Psi-ing, so that's why in my post Kyornik's aura activated, but as far as battle goes what does it do? oh yeah, and i guess us using Psi in public is still up in the air. As far as the spectators know, we're just a bunch of magicians/street performers chihaya lol. The only other people that know of our powers would be the Isabel and Carlos from the drug store via kyornik and the mysterious NPC girl of Kiruria's with Pk hex
I just decided to have Aqua be all "Oh we can't use our powers in public" Is because she watches Charmed a lot and they always had to cover their magical tracks. I think I'll her go all "No magic for Personal Gain" sooner or later. I was also thinking about Aqua. I remember someone brought up having the missing people become rivals of the character. I was going to Mother 3 it and have Aqua's older Brother Max (Another name for Aquamarine, which Aqua is named after, is Maxixe. It's like Aquamarine but it's blue colour can turn clear over time) be her rival character. How ever, neither of them will know who they really are until later in the RPG when Aqua learns Telepathy.
A little information, Max was kidnapped at the age of 7, while Aqua was 5. His powers are the opposite of Aqua's but he lacks the strength that his younger sister has since he was never there to load and unload ships like she had been doing with their father. I was kinda hoping Max could be a mini Boss at Winter who attacks us, defeats us, and then ANOTHER character I suddenly felt like creating named Scheherazade, a story teller from Scaraba who also has Psi powers and has traveled to Winters to see the castles. Just so we can have some more modern day references (What's Earthbound with out some of those?) we can make her an elf like the one in Soul Caliber 4.
Oh, the creative juices are flowing through my brain and instead of my Fan Script, it's this RPG instead.
Zekshirom, your idea is intriguing and interesting. I bet Kyornika is going to progress to the next step *evil fanboy sinker*
Not in public chihaya, NOT IN PUBLIC!
And coolminun, PK Harp is this:
PK Harp/Uta no jumon: Tekina plays her harp, soothing kind hearted souls, helping them to regain their strength a small bit.
It is basically a healing move. It heals both HP and PP.
chihaya01
19th July 2012, 1:42 AM
If berserk is O.K.ed, would Harp be able to heal any other status ailments?
coolminun
19th July 2012, 1:42 AM
So, since it seems like the side plot is approved, are any of your characters psi capable? Ari, Pablo, Shururi
Chihaya, when you say Max has opposite of Aqua's Psi, do you mean he uses offensive psi or he uses psi that causes harmful status affects while yours causes good ones? This would make him a prime candidate for Pk Hex, Magnet, and Flash
DVB, you could have DX be on the opposing team. If he was extracted from you, he could possess one of your clockwork gadgets and be carried around by someone else's loved one and summoned for battle and discussion. Like an evil Genie in a lamp.
I ave to beg. Can Blake use Offense up pleaaaaaaaase Kiruria? He's really physically powerful than Psi powerful, so by using offense up then using haste, he'd be a real good fight.
chihaya01
19th July 2012, 2:16 AM
Max can never learn an assist Psi. His move set also consists of a lot of Psi since he was born Psi talented like his Aunt Morgan. His Psi Aura is his most advanced move, he mainly uses it for Telekinesis. Aqua will never learn Telekinesis but she does gain Telepathy. Physically, Aqua is also stronger than him. They pretty much balance each others powers out.
Zekshirom
19th July 2012, 3:32 AM
Tekina is one of those two-different-girls-but-the-same-person types.
And PK Surfin might work, except that Shurui is from a traditional village, so we might have to change the english name.
And no, Shurui is not cool-headed. She is the playful and youngest of the two sisters.
EDIT: Wait....cool-headed? Water?.....
Was that intentional?
coolminun
19th July 2012, 3:57 AM
Yes it was lol
Pk Surfin' is his signature Psi, so Shururi could use a water based Psi, but it'd have to be completely different from Pk Surfin'. You could make it offensive or healing like Tekina's. Hmm, how about a water spout?
Shurui maybe just got a bit confused. Since she's young, she doesn't REALLY know the difference between good and evil. She might be just a rival instead of an actual enemy.
coolminun
well, from the way i was framing it, nobody would be a real enemy like they mean to kill us. The starmen brainwashed and unlocked psi in our loved ones, because they know it would be emotionally hard on us. They are the exact same people. Same memories, same personality and everything. The only thing that has changed in them is their belief. The starmen have covniced them that we are trying to cause the apocalypse and they are the chosen ones to stop us. Most of our fight may start as arguments between each other, but then the conviction to stop us will cause explosive battles. A really simple method, but super-effective in getting the job done.
you can think of it as how itachi did everything within his power to deceive sasuke from knowing the truth, but without shururi or max seeking vengeance and cutting down whoever crosses their paths. They're all just really confused.
Actually, Max is Aqua's brother who got kidnaped and tainted into become a petty thief. He was born with Psi of his own and isn't with the starmen at all. Coolminun, have you been ignoring my posts? >_>
Last night, I thought of Shurui's side of the story.
She was captured by the Starmen and given PSI, but before they could brainwash her, she escaped and started searching for Tekina. She is found by the ones who are with the Starmen, and they force her to come with them. Shurui is forced to fight her sister, though none of the brainwashed people know that they are sisters, and explains everything when they are close. Before leaving, Shurui leaves Tekina with a bow and a holder filled with arrows for her sister to use.
The next time she encounters her sister, Tekina is about to get hit with a strong attack, but Shurui saves her, making the ones with the Starmen rant on her that Tekina is on the enemy's side. Shurui reveals that Tekina is her sister, and is taken away at the end of the battle, promising her sister that next time they meet, she will fight on her side.
The third encounter proves this, as Shurui battles her so-called comrades and helps the chosen ones. Once the battle is over, the brainwashed kids try to seperate the sisters once again, but Shurui evades every attack they through at her. They try to attack Tekina, but this is when she obtained the sword in the Castle of Densetsu, so she evades and reflects the attacks back at the enemies. Finally they leave, and Shurui is now with the chosen ones, with her animal who helped her escape the Starmen-a nine-tailed fox named Kitsune, who is large enough for 3 people to ride it and who can use fire magic (PK Fire, and a special fire attack I will create along with Shurui's custom water attack.
I just decided to have Aqua be all "Oh we can't use our powers in public" Is because she watches Charmed a lot and they always had to cover their magical tracks. I think I'll her go all "No magic for Personal Gain" sooner or later. I was also thinking about Aqua. I remember someone brought up having the missing people become rivals of the character. I was going to Mother 3 it and have Aqua's older Brother Max (Another name for Aquamarine, which Aqua is named after, is Maxixe. It's like Aquamarine but it's blue colour can turn clear over time) be her rival character. How ever, neither of them will know who they really are until later in the RPG when Aqua learns Telepathy.
A little information, Max was kidnapped at the age of 7, while Aqua was 5. His powers are the opposite of Aqua's but he lacks the strength that his younger sister has since he was never there to load and unload ships like she had been doing with their father. I was kinda hoping Max could be a mini Boss at Winter who attacks us, defeats us, and then ANOTHER character I suddenly felt like creating named Scheherazade, a story teller from Scaraba who also has Psi powers and has traveled to Winters to see the castles. Just so we can have some more modern day references (What's Earthbound with out some of those?) we can make her an elf like the one in Soul Caliber 4.
Well, I guess this could be misread.
@coolminun: I like the idea of PK Surfin! And since we'll be arriving in Winters soon (as in by my next post), Blake could get a chance to show it to us soon as well! Also, I love the enemy ideas! Those are very clever names you came up with there! Except the Obsolete Cell Phone. How about Mobile Phony instead? I dunno where it would fit, probably wandering around a city. The Psi-Yonara would fit perfectly in Sunrise. The Sadistic Sea Gull... why would it be in Winters? Doesn't seem like the right environment to be in. And the Confounded Guardian is a brilliant idea, not as a proper enemy per se, but as a plot event. I may utilise it at some point. And since all PSI-capable characters know three techniques now, Blake's can be Offense Up, PK Aura, and PK Surfin.
And we will all be playing our instruments at some point, like it or not. >:)
@Zekshirom: I like the Shogunja idea. Since ninja and samurai were rivals of sorts, this enemy could represent someone who was exiled because they couldn't decide which they wanted to be. I dunno about it being a boss, but maybe a mini-boss. I think this enemy would fit perfectly on Mt. Itoi in Sunrise.
(Yes, it's kinda the same Mt. Itoi from Earthbound Zero, though I turned it into a parody of Mt. Fuji. Because any American who designs an Earthbound RPG should include a parody of Japan. And have a Japanese boy as the main character.)
^^Kinda worked well in my favour actually, as I've had Gon sitting around in my character bank for quite a while, and was looking for an RPG where he would fit. This was perfect!
Also, the Castle of Densetsu idea sounds a lot like Magicant, a dream world used (at least in Earthbound) to test something in a person. It would be an interesting idea.
About Shurui... Nobody escapes from the secret place where everyone's held captive. That place has some powerful magic around it, including a seal that needs some magic that Shurui definitely does not have in order to break it. Shurui could have given Tekina the bow just before she disappeared, maybe. And maybe she could even appear in the Castle of Densetsu to help Tekina out, and that's where the encounters you mentioned could take place.
@DVB: Yay, his Hypno-Pendulum (I doubt it'll be called that) will be way cooler than Duster's! But although the combo thing happens in Mother 3, I don't see any practical way it can be applied to this RPG except in very special cases where music is specifically involved. And instead of stunning, how about the enemy just feels groggy and slow for a while after waking up?
@chihaya01: Nageki no Mori is an interesting idea, but I don't think it should have a Japanese name if it's in Winters. I also like the Berserk idea, though it would have to only occur at night when the Aurora is active. And on the subject of Hinawa being blond originally, sometimes women have hair changes after being pregnant, so maybe that's what happened to Hinawa after she had the kids. Especially since her hair's a light brown.
About Max... First off, humans in the new world only gained the ability to use PSI when the Aurora Mysteria started occurring, meaning Max would have to be five days old in order to be born with it. The only exceptions to this are people who arrived here from the Nowhere Islands, like Lucas. He could have been kidnapped by some run-of-the-mill criminal and had to steal things to survive, thus becoming a thief later on. And he could have gained the ability to use PSI along with several others when the Aurora started.
Scheherazade could possibly be storytelling at King Ferdinand's castle, or was prevented from doing such and thus holds a grudge against anyone who sides with the king. This is not a fantasy-themed world, so elves certainly won't exist. But she could be an odd (possibly elf-like) little creature like the Mr. Saturns and Tendas (BTW, Tendas no longer appear in the world)--perhaps Scaraba had a race of those living in one of their pyramids.
@Soaring Pikachu: Wow, I totally didn't expect you to post in this Discussion thread, but you're always welcome to! ^_^ But I did mention in the background info section of this RPG that there are some musical groups that will become important in the RPG. So of course they have to have theatres to perform in. The Topolla Theater in Fourside will probably still be there, although Venus probably won't. In fact, I can totally see the DCMC calling it their new home, since Club Titiboo disappeared with the rest of the Nowhere Islands at the end of Mother 3. Or the theater can even have its name changed to Club Titiboo. One or the other. I personally don't think the DCMC really liked that name, since the club was originally created by the Pig Army in an attempt to use the DCMC to brainwash people.
And I'm sorry if the RPG is not fitting to your style. But I understand how you feel. I myself am the exact opposite--I like to have order in an RPG. I recently joined an RPG that totally went freeform against my expectations, and I just didn't know what the heck to post. So I just gave up on it. But back to this RPG, if you look around you can see that the others are free-forming a lot of stuff anyway, maybe just a little bit... *wink*
~ ~ ~
Wow, that was a lot to comment on! I think at some point I'll do a post centering around Ari, and then everyone who has characters who are captive can post there as well, just for one or two posts. Wait for it though.
But speaking of posts, I am working on one as we speak. Winters, here we come!
EDIT: Yay, I posted... finally.
Kiruria
27th July 2012, 6:50 PM
That actually makes much more sense than the stunning. Kind of a Brainshock-like effect. And besides, we already have Pigmasks doing the stunning for now...
EDIT: I have just compiled a list of the custom enemies I have approved thus far. If an enemy you created isn't listed here, it's most likely because A) its design is not that interesting, B) it resembles a canon enemy too much, or C) it won't fit in any areas we'll visit in the RPG. I made some modifications to the enemy names as well.
Cactus Crab - [created by chihaya01] The cacti growing on the backs of these scorpions makes them crabby. (Appears in Scaraba)
Paint Roller - [created by chihaya01] It wishes it were an Insane Cultist, but instead it's a silly-looking paint roller with arms. (Appears in Fourside?)
Death Notes - [created by coolminun] Your favourite music is now your worst nightmare! Beware their combo attacks. (Appears in Winters)
**In addition to copying their owners' PSI (maybe just one technique), I was thinking they could do combo attacks with musical notes like the Sound Battles in Mother 3, and know PK Hex as well.
Tigermoth - [created by coolminun] You'd never expect a moth to have a roar this deadly! A species of Chimera. (Appears in Dalaam, maybe)
Hungry Couch - [created by coolminun] Hmm, I wonder where that couch potato went? Specializes in eating your change. (Appears in buildings/homes)
Mini Nanuk - [created by coolminun] I don't want to know what the non-Mini one is like! Beware its freezing fangs. (Appears on Mt. Itoi and the forests of Winters)
**Although it's called Mini, it's still the size of an average bear, and still terrifying. I might have King Nanuk be the boss of Sunrise, but definitely not Winters. I have a completely different Winters "boss" in mind...
Shogunja - [created by Zekshirom] He can't decide whether he's ninja or samurai, so he was exiled to Mt. Itoi.
**Can use PK Fire, Wind, and Aura
Facepalm tree - [created by coolminun] Does a facepalm to raise its stats. People often do so too upon seeing it. (Appears in Scaraba and/or Summers)
Psi-Yonara - [created by coolminun] This ghostly lady uses PSI and kisses you goodbye. In that order. (Appears on Mt. Itoi)
**Uses PSI Magnet, Shield, and a random PSI known by a foe
Mobile Phony - [created by coolminun] It's jealous of the flashy new smart phones people have. Attacks with outdated radio waves. (Appears in cities)
Sadistic Seagull - [created by coolminun] Known for pooping on people and stealing their fried calamari. And worse. (Appears in Summers)
Surprise Chest, Tiny Statue, Fury Statue, Wild Statue, Guardian Statue - [Created by Zekshirom] Enemies in the otherworldly Castle of Densetsu, the Guardian Statue being the strongest.
Please do not design any more enemies for Mt. Itoi. I think we have enough there now.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Also, I've updated the Plot Summary, added the Black (and Green) Cultist and Pigmask to the Enemy Index, and deleted Calvin and Yako from the character list. I'll be removing Dell soon as well if he doesn't come back. Raiden's having problems posting now, so Santana's still there. Same for Bowie just in case Soaring Pikachu decides to post again. I also gave Aqua a promotion by moving her further up in the list to where the other five most active characters are.

Elflings: These little guys have long ears and a small mouth. They speak words that humans don't understand but they still understand and can communicate with their telepathy powers. They also have powerful Elvin magic that they never use in front of humans. Scheherazade was the first to introduce them to humans after finding them in the Deep Darkness.
Ebi seals: A plump miniature seal with the face of a cat and a pair of large bobbing antenna. Their powers consist of shooting beams from their mouth and being able to puff up into a balloon. Fabula introduced the species to the ocean. They live exclusively in Summers.
Clockwork Rocks: Rocks that were brought to life by Avis and her love of tinkering things. The rocks simply walk around and have no oral form of communication. Instead, they write symbols on the ground. Despite being a robot, these rocks somehow have a mind. The rocks fear leaving Dalaam.

Hey hey. So, I just posted. Hope nobody minds the ppork trooper and Luvina. The cult reminded me of the the cult master from earthbound that used lightning to attack and you rebounded it with the franklin badge. Figured it'd be a cool fight, bring up some nostalgia, and set the stage for Kyornik learning pk thunder. This will be his next psi and also introduces a special skill he has.

You can go right ahead. The post was open for anybody to continue, so if you want to get Kyornik out of the pork trooper's clutches, please go for it. I really like the synergy with Aqua and Kyornik. Shields and counters with powerful physical attacks seems to compliment battle grade offensive psi nicely. Can't wait for Kyornik to learn Aura beta so to he can use Haste. Will be his way of returning the favor by making her blinding fast in combat. This also strengthens their friendship and makes her invaluable to him too.

I love our group!!!

For Luvina, I had to google several different ways to say black in case anyone was wondering what she was saying.

@coolminun: How about having Gon cream the Pork Trooper with PK Fireworks as revenge? Yeah, he hasn't done anything in battle besides being shot by a Pigmask, so... I would have not allowed the Pork Trooper, but since a few other people already reacted to it, I felt it rather pointless for you to edit it out at that point. So instead I made it so that he's just pretending to be the Pork Trooper. In fact, I bet the other cults will have similar fake Pork Troopers as well... the real one would be pissed.

@Chihaya: Hmm, interesting "enemy" designs... They're just little creatures accompanying the storytellers, right? If so, they probably shouldn't be in the official enemy list... but will appear anyway. Scheherazade will be appearing very shortly in the RPG as well... after we heal up of course.

I'll let you guys be creative with how Reynard University is laid out, but if you'd like any ideas, feel free to ask. I don't think any enemies will appear there though... except maybe I'll sick one on you if you wander around outside too long. I guess now all you have to do is decide where to go next. This is basically free time before we deal with the stuff at Ferdinand Castle.

Oh my, this is reminiscent of Mother 3... Chapter 2 centers around a haunted castle. I guess in this RPG, the part where we introduced ourselves in Saturn Valley, finishing with the UFO fight in the sky, would be "Chapter Zero"...

And Luvina was a wonderful addition to the Cult of Black! Great idea, coolminun! Though she did remind me of a certain NPC we encountered briefly during the battle wit the Fleshy Flower... And NPC I shall add shortly to the Character List, for the lulz.

How about after the battle with Kyornik hurt, Shururi's disappearance and backstory, being in a house with a cosplaying lady and teleporting cats, bing in Winters? Take your pic.

Chihaya, you could even introduce Max and his band of thieves or Academy Town.

Also, I propose a new NPC who is also an enemy

Estralle- A starwan. Basically a female starman. Starwoman is too long, and a M and W are basically the same letter except turned upside down in the latter. She's not the mastermind behind what's going on with the aurora, but she is the one who gathers our friends/loved ones and brainwashes them into stopping us.

Psi- Localized Teleport: Simple teleporting like how they did in the over world of earthbound. Can instantly appear anywhere near you.
Teleport beta- Runs/spins in a circle at high speed creating a whirlwind and powerful space/time shockwaves that teleport her anywhere she wants on earth

Pk fire gamma
Pk aura gamma
Psi shield
Shield
Paralysis
Hypnosis

Skills: Shoot laser, and replenish a fuel supply

Yay, just letting you know I'm still here and all. Coolminun, TV Tropes is a wiki that lists a bunch of common themes, motifs, and other quirky concepts (collectively called "tropes") that are common in fiction. In addition to describing each trope, each page also lists a bunch of examples from every kind of media imaginable (including video games), as well as real life in some cases. But users can also make their own trope pages to describe fictional stories, whether they created such fictional stories or not. A few RPG's on these forums have their own TV Tropes page. I've never made a TV Tropes page (I've added examples to existing pages, but that's about it), so I bet Jean Grey will have more experience with this than I do...

And hey, the first trope we can apply to our characters is the Five-Man Band, though it'll actually be a six-man band given the people who are active here. Let's see... Gon would be the Hero, Kyornik would be the Lancer, Diego would be the Smart Guy, Aqua would be the Chick... Heh, nobody really fits the role of Big Guy, except maybe Gale if you look at her right. Bowie fits the role almost perfectly, but he's not been around lately. Gale and Tekina would, if anything else, be an additional lancer and hero, respectively, I think.

About the RPG itself, I like DVB's idea of having the people at Reynard University discover Diego's PSI experiment. I think Gon and Morgan and possibly Aqua are headed there; maybe Diego and Gale can meet up with them afterwards, unless Gale wants to pay a visit to Nieve. I dunno what Tekina would want to do; I don't think she's ever been in Winters either. I'd want us to be in Ferdinand Castle by the late afternoon, though--otherwise the king might send people to look for us.

Yeah, that's all I'll say for now. I'm kind of out of it myself, since I have a cat who's about to be put to sleep later today. (Just after we had a bunch of cats appearing in the RPG.) So you can definitely not expect a post from me today... maybe tomorrow perhaps.

Well, those seem to fit! XD Gale does have a tendency to gear towards offensive PSI, being a Black Magician Girl or a Lady of Black Magic. XD I'd think Gale also has shades of The Chick too though, which can show up later, as she's the resident cook. XD

Yeah, so who's is it to update? Kyornik can wake up now and contact his family while the others can make their way there or to the university

I have now decided to make Tekina a singer, while Shurui plays the violin.

And Densetsu will protect Ongaku from becoming a Death Note, if we are still doing that.

Hahaha, this RPG could totally be an anime!

Sorry for not posting, guys. I'm stuck in the middle of writing something that's due later today, and I've been pretty much forced to write only it for the past four days... Tonight I'll get a post up, I promise.

I'm gonna get another computer to work on a fan series, so I could do the anime for this RPG on there as well, but of course, I'm going to need some voice actors....hmm???

Finally, I got Serebii to work!

Anime for the RPG? As long as Aqua is pretty cute, I don't mind~ But Gon is her love intrest so he has to look good to.

Of course, chihaya. I'm going to work on the RPG hard...and yes, even the funny parts.

Yup. coolminun, that means you get to see psycho PSI Tekina in action. ;)

lol. I've actually been thinking about an anime for this for a while now. Even have the opening music and everything. Just might be bad that it's from final fantasy lol. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPEzumonJv4I'd imagine it'd start with a night sky with the aurora then onto earth. Gon in Discovery waking up out of bed looking at a pic of Ari then running outside chasing a dragon fly, Diego tinkering with clockwork devices in a lab, Gale riding her motorbike with her black hair flowing in the wind, Kyornik at the looking to the beach horizon from a cliff with his headphones on enjoying nature, Aqua in her garden petting peppercorn and Salt, and Tekina first looking at a locket cotaining shururi's pic then playing her harp as musical notes with white feathers surround her.

Next comes random enemy fights of us performing psi and diego chopping things up with clockwork and finally ends with all of us in a circle watching the starry night sky as the aurora shines
