~ The Legend and the Souls ~

For those who arrive in Threshold, it is all too clear that their earthly life is over.

From their first glimpse at the floating structure of Arrival to the ethereal sky to the ever present gaze of the towering statue Vigil, Threshold is decidedly not the world they had once lived in.

And they are not alone in this place. There are other lost souls who have wound up in Threshold and there is also a legend spread among the inhabitants of this strange place. A legend concerning artifacts called "Shards of Heaven."

The Shards of Heaven are slivers and pieces of golden crystal that come in varying shapes and sizes and posses many special qualities. They are translucent, like golden glass, but are completely indestructible and cannot be broken or damaged even by other Shards of Heaven. If two Shards of Heaven come into contact with each other, they fuse together into a larger Shard. The legend claims that should all of the Shards of Heaven be gathered together at the sacred site, then the door to Heaven will finally be opened.

Though no one knows when or where the story originated, the legend has nonetheless made the Shards of Heaven widely sought after by the lost souls of Threshold. It is unclear how many will be able to enter through the door to Heaven however, or how long the door will stay open, and so rather than work together to find the Shards, many lost souls choose instead to go after them in small groups or even individually, and fights often break out over possession of the Shards or places where Shards may still lie undiscovered, each person or group trying to claim the Shards for themselves.

It is unknown just how many Shards there really are, or how many have already been found and fused together, but there are at least several dozen and perhaps as many as a hundred or more shards claimed so far, and many more likely lie undiscovered in the various locales of Threshold.

~ Rules of the Afterlife ~

Like the world of the living, Threshold has its own set of rules.

Anyone arriving in Threshold will always awaken at the floating structure called Arrival. There are no exceptions.

When a lost soul arrives in Threshold, they retain very few memories of their life on Earth and may even have none of their memories. As time passes, they will start to regain specific memories. Specific points in their life, a favorite item or sensation or song, even the way in which they died. Very few remember their old names either. Though they too may come in time, new arrivals are often forced to give themselves a new name, or are given one by someone else. Even if an individual remembers their name from when they were alive, they will still often go by their new name in Threshold. No one has ever had their memory fully restored, the most any can hope for is those precious few moments to be remembered.

Lost souls in Threshold also gain new abilities and appearances. Though their faces remain the same, the rest of their appearance from hair color to clothing can be vastly different from their normal Earthly style. In addition, each lost soul arrives with a personalized and unique weapon and that weapon will work for them and them alone. If another lost soul steals a weapon, it will not work for them. Guns will refuse to fire, swords get stuck in their sheath, blades refuse to cut, only the owner of a weapon can use it.

There is no day and night cycle in Threshold, and sleep is never necessary. Rather, it always appears to be midday. In addition, other normal body functions also do not apply, and things like food and water are also unneeded.

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, those in Threshold cannot be killed. They will still feel pain, can still suffer deadly body damage, but over time, even the most grievous of wounds will regenerate, and anyone "killed" will simply awaken some hours later, fully healed, no matter how badly they were injured.

There are only two proven ways to leave Threshold. The first is by falling off of The Edge. Threshold is a floating landmass, aloft in void of white mists and ethereal clouds. Anyone who falls off of The Edge, simply falls into the clouds of ether and mist, never to be seen again. No one knows what happens to those who fall from Threshold, but they never return. The second is for one to turn their own weapon on themselves. Suicide, as the ultimate showcase of surrender and defeat, will remove a lost soul from Threshold forever. This only works with their own weapon, and since the owner of a weapon is the only one who can use it, the decision falls on them alone. If one decides to turn their weapon on themselves, their bodies turn to ash, and their weapons petrify into nearly indestructible stone, leaving a unique marker for each who chose to depart Threshold of their own free will. The stone weapons dot the landscape of threshold, a tantamount to the ages that this world has experienced and the number of lost souls who gave up hope of a better place.

~ Threshold ~

Threshold is a floating landmass that seems to be on a different plane of existence, a limbo between Heaven and Earth.

It is essentially a large island, aloft in an endless cloud of white mist. The sky is not blue, but a soft white color, as though a veil of mists encircled the island on all sides, top and bottom. Though the mists encircle the island, they do not mask it and one can clearly see from one end to the other if you have a high point of view. Colorful ethereal clouds drift throughout the veil of mist, casting splotches of unearthly colors across the sky.

At the westernmost point of Threshold lies the floating structure called Arrival. Arrival is a round, white stone platform, edged with rows of columns in various heights and shapes. It has no roof, and floats above the ground with a slight sway to it as it goes slightly up and down. A large ring of white and gold stone slowly rotates around the platform at an angle, several smaller rings float at odd points and angles above, below and beside the platform or the other rings. Another series of smaller rings floats beneath the platform down to the ground. Arrival is where lost souls first appear in Threshold, and it is the first sight of everyone who ends up there. Arrival is situated at the end of a peninsula that juts out of the westernmost point on the island.

Further out from Arrival, at the start of the peninsula, lies the one and only settlement in Threshold, Sanctuary. Sanctuary is a sprawling area of white stone buildings that is more like a random collection than a true town. Sanctuary is run by a lost soul named Angel, who looks after the city. She keeps Sanctuary and Arrival as a "neutral zone" and does not tolerate violence within the area. Since all of the Shards of Heaven in the area have long since been claimed, most are happy to oblige. Angel has been in Threshold for quite a long time, and she is far more adept than she may let on, so she is fully capable of enforcing her rule of peace if she needs to. Sanctuary is essentially a collection of purposeless buildings, most of which have been converted into haphazard living quarters. Since nothing in Threshold decays, everything that has been built or added there still remains, from chairs to maps to beds to the stone markers of lost souls who took their own lives within Sanctuary. Few will take a room that holds a petrified weapon.

In the center of Threshold lies a valley called The Cradle. It is a round valley located in the heart of the island, surrounded on all sides by rough, jagged cliffs that provide enough outcroppings and rough edges to provide an easy climb or series of jumps up and down the cliffs. The valley itself is vast and flat, a direct contrast to the hilly and rocky areas of the rest of Threshold, with rivers and other such landmarks. In the center of The Cradle, lies the ever present statue known as Vigil. Vigil is massive, a towering stone pillar tall enough to loom over the entire rest of the island. Near the top, the patterned stone surface changes into the robes of a figure. Four arms jut out, each pointing in one of the cardinal directions, each a right hand. Above each hand lies a hooded face, staring out expressionless in the direction each hand is pointing. It is possible to climb Vigil, and from the top of the towering statue one can see the entirety of Threshold laid out before them.

In the northeast lies a low mountain called The Crown, so named for the jagged ring of rock that lines the crater at the top. The Crown has a cratered peak, like a volcano, but there is no sign of lava or magma having ever flowed there. Inside the crater of The Crown, lies a complex of stone buildings, similar to the ones in Sanctuary. Unlike Sanctuary, it is a gathering place for the less honorable lost souls, and it has been claimed by various groups at various points, each leaving their trace on the stone ruins. A large, complex series of caves and tunnels runs throughout the mountain, leaving a confusing spiderweb of passages and backdoors that have even still yet to be fully explored, at least not by anyone who left a map.

To the south lies the Redwood. It is a perplexing forest of crimson trees and white leaves. The pathways through the forest change frequently as well as if the forest itself was shifting, and once you enter deep into the forest, it may take hours or days to find your way back out. Tree houses and other such signs of habitation still litter the deep forest, and several groups and individuals claim the forest as their base of operations.

In the southeast lies the Aquapolis. It is a spectacular vista of flowing water, white pillars of stone, and lush plants. Water flows in intricate patterns though forests of white rock pillars and cliffs, flowing right up to The Edge where it gently flows off in a seemingly endless waterfall. The rivers and waterways of the Aquapolis flow gently, and the current isn't strong enough to pull one in and send them over The Edge. The waters of the Aquapolis seem to originate from a spring near the edge of The Cradle, and flow ever outward from there. The white stone pillars that dot the landscape vary in shape and size, and some have even been carved or hollowed out. Overall, it is one of the larger areas in Threshold and may contain many unclaimed Shards of Heaven.

In the north lies a rocky, hilly area referred to simply as "the north" or "the hills". It is a rather barren area of tough grass and granite stones that covers a large area of the northern part of Threshold. The most notable landmark in the hills is a strange building referred to as The Church. It is a large, cathedral-like building consisting of a single room with very high ceilings. The outside is intricately carved, unlike the plain stone buildings of Sanctuary, and has many massively tall stained glass windows depicting various abstract patterns. Two large doors mark the entrance. The interior of the building is totally empty except for a single circular design on the ground. The design is a golden ring, engraved with all sorts of strange symbols. On the far wall of the building rests a massive gate composed of very intricate machinery done up in gold and silver. It is a huge construct of gears and panels and levers and rings and pistons that is almost incomprehensible in its complexity. It seems to exist only on the inside of the building and the same wall when viewed from the outside has no trace of the gate visible. The Church is thought of to be "the sacred site" mentioned in the legend, with the gate being the "Door to Heaven"

To the north west lies The Sands. The Sands are a barren, arid area with dusty ground and red rock formations. The Sands are not actually very large however, and areas like the Redwood and Aquapolis cover a much larger area. It is rumored that the dusty sands of this area still hide many Shards of Heaven, making it one of the most disputed areas in Threshold.

The other areas of Threshold between these more prominent areas are simply vast expanses of grassland, with rolling hills, the occasional cliff face, and a very open feel to the land. There are however, a distinct lack of trees, and aside from the Redwood, there are very few trees anywhere in Threshold, making the few trees that do exist landmarks of sorts. They are often carved with directions to nearby points of interest or other such messages.

~ Faction Leaders ~

- Black Rock Shooter -

Appearance: Black's skin is a rather pale, almost ghostly shade of white. Her sharply contrasting jet black hair is pulled back into two very long twintails, the end of the left one appearing to have been sliced off at some point. Her eyes are a bright sapphire blue, as is her Ether Flame. She wears a black jacket, zipped only at the top, with a white stripe down the top of each sleeve and a large white star on the back. Beneath this, she wears only a black bikini top and a pair of black shorts. Long black boots cover her legs below her knees.

Bio: A somewhat mysterious young girl who claims to have returned after falling off of The Edge. She seeks to put an end to the violence that plagues Threshold, but her idealistic nature and bold claims make it hard for many souls to believe in what she says. Despite this, she is ready and willing to pursue her goal with steadfast determination.

Weapon: An over-sized arm-cannon that appears to be made of some black, stone-like material. Despite its size and apparent weight, Black has no difficulty brandishing it with a single hand. The gun fires an endless supply of small black squares she calls "rocks" which explode into bursts of blue Ether on contact. She can also charge a shot to release a more powerful blast. The Weapon can also be "dismissed" during which time it condenses into a small black cube. During her Weapon's upgrade, the barrel end becomes pointed and bladed, and the grip end fuses to her arm, allowing it to be used as a massive melee weapon.

- Angel -

Appearance: Angel is, quite fittingly, angelic in appearance. With flowing, slightly curly hair like golden tresses, a golden halo above her head, and snowy white wings upon her back, she strongly resembles a classical Angel in every facet of her appearance. Her eyes are a clear and calm silvery-blue, and her radiant skin is smooth as porcelain. She wears only a flowing white robe and simple leather sandals.

Bio: One of the oldest souls in Threshold, Angel has taken it upon herself to watch over newly arrived lost souls, as well as the settlement of Sanctuary and the nearby structure called Arrival. She is often the first face a newly arrived soul sees upon their awakening in Threshold, and is always there to welcome them and explain the situation they find themselves in. There is a manner about her appearance and diction that makes her disarming; a sort of enchanting air about her that makes you want to hear what she has to say. Despite her angelic and peaceful appearance, she is strong enough to enforce her rule of peace should she need to, thought it has been so long since anyone actually challenged her, that few remain in Threshold today who have actually seen her fight.

Weapon: Unknown. Presumed to be related to her halo.

- Iron Chain -

Appearance: Iron Chain is a hulking brute of a man. Standing at over six and a half feet tall, and with bulging muscles, he looks every bit like a muscle head. But don't let his brutish appearance fool you, he is actually a brilliant tactician and an eloquent and tactful speaker. His ashen hair is cut short and swept back, and his eyes are a cold metallic color, like iron. His Ether Flame has the appearance of welding sparks, and a pair of large, metal chains wrap around his torso, across his shoulders, and spiral down his arms where they hang off of his wrists. He wears only a sturdy red denim-like vest and tough looking pants the color of rust.

Bio: The leader of the single largest group in Threshold, Iron Chain wields a large amount of power and influence in his campaign to gather the shards. Though he may come off as a bit rough to those he doesn't yet trust, he is actually pretty decent guy at heart, and though he may not share a close relationship with any of his "crew", he is well respected by them and treats them well. Though calm and eloquent, he is also stubborn and he shares a bitter grudge with Dead Master over the murder of one of his few close friends. The constant fighting between their two groups is often the largest cause of unrest in all of Threshold, though Iron Chain either doesn't see it or doesn't care so long as Dead Master suffers and his collection of shards increases.

Weapon: As his namesake, Iron Chain's weapons are in fact the two long chains that wrap around his body and arms. He can control the chains as though the were an extension of his own body, using them to whip, strike, grab, or defend. During his upgrade, the chains gain spikes of orange Ether energy on each link, allowing them to be even more deadly.

- Dead Master -

Appearance: Dead Master has rather pale skin, and dark green hair so dark, it almost appears black in low light. Her hair is actually pulled forward, where most of its length tumbles across either shoulder in a long fancy curl. Two curved horns that appear to be made of human vertebrae extend from the top of her head upwards. Her eyes are a shadowy emerald green, but her Ether Flame is a sickly and ghastly pale green. Dead Master sports a Gothic look, wearing a simple black dress. The dress is open in the back, allowing her two small, simple, skeletal wings to stick out unhindered. The skirt of the dress is ruffled and layered, and is actually cut around waist level. A single white bow rests on the hem of the skirt, on the right side. Under the skirt, she wears a pair of black capri-length pants which end just below her knees. Though mostly covered by her long sleeves, her arms below the elbow are covered in a black bone-like material, the joints of which even seem to be made of a tough cartilage. The ends of her fingers end in sharp points, like claws. Simple black slippers complete her attire.

Bio: Dead Master is one of those rare souls who decides to embrace the fact that you can't die by letting her blood-lust and masochistic facets run wild. She is a master of torture, every bit as twisted and dark as the implements she uses. She embraces pain, takes pleasure in it, both in inflicting it and experiencing it. This would be bad enough, if it wasn't for the fact that she is also charming and elegant. Her formalities, haughty language, and alluring mannerisms have earned her a large following of souls, many on the way to becoming as twisted as their "mistress". Though she enjoys taking prisoners, she has no qualms about driving them to suicide or tossing them off of The Edge once she's had her fun. Though Iron Chain's grudge with her is rather one sided, Dead Master does not like having others encroach on her territory and responds in force. If there's a battle going on in Threshold, odds are Dead Master has a stake in it.

Weapon: DM wields a large, wicked scythe. The long handle of the Weapon appears to be made from a human vertebrae, and is made of the same black-bony material that covers her hands. The blade is also made of a black metal that only barely reflects light across the sharpened edge. The Scythe on its own has no special powers, but it does allow her to command two large skull like machines. They are both around 3 feet tall and can freely levitate. Their inside burns with ghastly pale green Ether, the same color as her Ether Flame. During her upgrade, both the Skulls and her scythe gain the ability to spew ghastly green flames that can cause hallucinations as well as burns.

- Revanche -

Appearance: A beautiful, almost ethereal young lady, Revanche looks incredibly out of place in the diversely populated Threshold. With a perfect, calm face and serene purple eyes, she seems to be the epitome of dignity. She wears a transparent silken white veil across her mouth, and through it can be seen the most succulent pair of lips imaginable- elegant and bewitching. Her voice has strangely foreign intonation, with a rich and exotic style of speaking that is impossible to place; however, her enunciation is clear and strangely impactful, with her melodious tones simply making listening to her all the more compelling. Her clothes, although simple, accentuate her stunning figure all the more- a form-fitting white dress that comes all the way down to her ankles, with long sleeves and only the simplest of gold stitching; a golden silken shawl that shields her thin shoulders and a pair of dainty heeled sandals. Wheat-coloured hair of a golden-brown shade falls to her shoulders. This beauty, however, seems all the more alien in contrast to the other residents of Threshold, and can seem strikingly uncanny at times.

Bio: Revanche is a philanthropic, considered individual. With loving eyes and a gentle smile, the woman is the living picture of kindness and good grace, with a benevolent attitude towards all. Her good deeds and incredible manners are spoken of in many places on Threshold, as the woman gains more and more support and popularity. Many join the Order of Holy Knights simply to be closer to this paragon of morality, in order to better their souls and make themselves more worthy of Heaven. As well as this, there is the matter of her abilities as a public speaker- the way she seamlessly integrates her beliefs into enthralling, thoughtful speeches that encompass existential questions both personal and universal; the way in which she composes herself, and with a quiet confidence and incredible self-belief captures the collective imagination of souls everywhere. She believes in them, in their integrity; in return, they believe in her and what she represents for them- liberation. Her pacifistic world-view is refreshing in a dimension plagued by strife, as she seeks no conflicts and actively trades her Shards for supplies that she considers to be of greater worth; her followers do the same, all over Threshold.

Weapon: Revanche's weapon is unknown- what is more, there is nothing upon her person that gives off the Ether signature of a Weapon, either. When questioned, her responses are cryptic.

- Grey Hunter -

Appearance: Tall, muscular, unshaven, and battle-scarred, Grey is an intimidating man even when not taking his olive colored power armor into account. His salt and pepper hair is swept back and spiked, as to not get in the way of the red rectangular eyepiece, opposite of his left eye’s gray ether flame. While his armor has no sleeves, he still wears a pair of thick powerful gloves created of the same material, and that goes ditto for his boots as well.

Bio: Being rowdy, foul-mouthed, drunk, and quite the collector of shards has not done Grey any favors when trying to overcome the title of ‘Pirate’, so he has instead embraced it. Along with his crew, Grey sets off from the Cradle and scours the skies in the flying ship ‘The Lead Tempest’ in search of his enemies: The armies of both the Dead Master and Iron Chain. Disliking the order, hypocrisy, and obsession with shards with one, and the ruthlessness, murder, and danger of the other, he spends his days attacking both, most likely while the two are already in battle with one another. While Grey’s army is small, they’re bravery, morale, skill, underhanded tactics, and trust in him lead them to victory more often than not.

Weapon: Grey's weapon is not only always with him, it's always on him. His suit of armor has several functions that led to his might on the battlefield, and his unquestionable leadership. With his right gauntlet producing a rifle with a bottomless magazine, and his left an empathetic ether leash that moves at his very thought, Grey dominates on the front lines of his own army.

~ Other NPCs ~

- Agony -

Allegiance: Dead Master

Appearance: Agony is a thin and wiry young man with a pale, vampire-like complexion. His hair is so white it appears colorless and though it is cut short in the back the bangs are long enough to fall over his left eye, completely hiding it. His visible eye is a deep blood red, and his Ether Flame is black as night. He wears what appears to be a butler's suit, complete with bow tie. The suit is pristine, save the sleeves and pants legs which are marred with tears and holes that only increase as they near the ends. No matter what, his face never betrays any emotion, and he always gives an impression of calm indifference.

Bio: Agony is Dead Master's "Right Hand." He is an expert of torture and interrogation, as skilled as Dead Master herself, though he lacks his mistress' creativity. His is Misery's partner, and together they form Dead Master's most elite followers.

Weapon: Agony's Weapon is his right hand. His right arm is normal down to the wrist, where it suddenly becomes cold, thin metal. His "fingers" are little more than mechanical bones, each tipped with two-inch long curved blades. The blades are not only deadly sharp, but are dexterous enough to allow him to wield them with surgery-like precision. He can freely change the temperature of the blades as well, anywhere between ice cold and burning hot. During his upgrade, the metal tears through his arm, turning his entire right arm into a bladed instrument of death that can extend far beyond his normal reach.

- Misery -

Allegiance: Dead Master

Appearance: Misery is a short, scrawny looking girl with vibrant pink hair and lemon-yellow eyes. Her Ether Flame is a pink not unlike bubblegum, and her hair is pulled to the side where it flares out in a spiked sidetail. She is dressed in a Gothic maid outfit, complete with lace and bonnet. Unlike other members of DM's court, she never bothers to clean the bloodstains off of her dress, leaving the white parts of her garments splattered with blood of varying degrees of freshness. She makes no effort to mask her feelings, and her smile is often the last thing one of her prisoners sees before they die.

Bio: Like her partner Agony, Misery is one half of Dead Master's elite guard. Her mistress' "Left Hand", Misery delights in the chance to "play" with her enemies, often leaving a trail of broken parts in her path. Where as Agony is calm and professional, Misery is rash and childish, and her temper tantrums mean bad news for anyone around.

Weapon: Misery's Weapon is quite simply a pole mounted chainsaw. The long metal pole is tipped with a wicked chainsaw on one end, and a heavy iron ball on the other. She can start or stop the chainsaw teeth at will, and the heavy iron ball at the other end makes a deadly striking weapon as well as a counterweight. During her upgrade, the chainsaw end splits in two and detaches from the staff, giving her a total of three weapons to wield, which she does so proficiently.

- Black Gold Saw -

Allegiance: Herself

Appearance: Saw is a tall, slender young woman with lightly tanned, yet still ashy skin. Her figure is slightly lanky, her slim figure and long arms and legs making her appear slightly stretched. Her hair is long and silky, and falls across her back in a single curtain of jet black strands, each tipped with blood red. Her eyes are an intense ruby red, and her ether flame is a darker red color reminiscent of cinnamon. Two horns sprout from the top of her head, both made of smooth, polished, black metal. They are relatively straight, and extend upward, not outwards. A black jacket so tattered it appears to be a cape is worn around her chest, the ends of which trail off behind her. The sleeves are long gone, ending in short ragged tears just below her shoulders. Her hands however are covered by thin black gauntlets, not unlike armored gloves. Black, long-legged shorts and boots complete her look.

Bio: Saw bears an intense hatred of Revanche's order, and all those who dedicate themselves to it, earning the name "The Demon" because of it. For a long time, Saw has devoted herself to inflicting as much damage to the order as she can, burning shrines, killing those who ascend to the position of nun or knight, defacing monuments, and spreading whatever truths and lies she can conjure to slander it. Naturally, Revanche has taken notice, and any nuns or knights of her order are under command to kill The Demon on sight. Though she always works alone, Saw is strong enough to take on several opponents at once and win, and Revanche has learned the hard way not to take her lightly.

Weapon: Saw's weapon is her namesake, a long, machete-like sword with a saw-toothed cutting edge that leaves ragged wounds on its targets. The backside of the blade is armored, allowing it to serve as a good striking weapon when turned over, and the hilt guard is specially designed to mesh with her gauntlets, making it almost impossible to pry the sword from her grasp. When struck into the ground, the blade allows Saw to "scry" (see from afar) anywhere she has previously been in Threshold. She herself is completely unaware and vulnerable while scrying however, and a red eye-like marking appears in the location she is scrying for as long as she scrys giving those who know her mark a chance of discovering her. Her upgrade allows her to pause time for 2 seconds, but drains her more and more each time she uses it in succession.

- ??? (The Watcher) -

Allegiance: None

Appearance: Unknown

Bio: A mysterious figure who observes events all across Threshold from afar. She seems to have taken an interest in Black Rock Shooter.

Weapon: A small silver key that can open the "windows of the world", rifts that allow The Watcher to travel instantaneously across Threshold. Further abilities unknown.

Okay guys, if anyone has any questions, inquiries, ideas, what have you, this is the place, so long as it pertains to the RP.

I'll be updating this first post with more in-depth info and details (like adding links to the PC's Sign Ups) as time allows.

First post! Hi guys! =D

Ok, so I've RPed with a lot of you, (and those of you that I have RPed with before may have seen this character before. =P) But a lot of you don't know me, hopefully we can all get along.

I'm slightly disappointed that the balance of male to female characters is even (Not counting GMPC's.) I was looking forward to Misama, Wight, and Crimson being an awesome male trio. =P (Not that they still can't be. xD)

Random fact: Crimson died a virgin. *gasps* Make use of that info however you want. ;)

I see that Pale Point is going to be afraid of Miasma as his appearance alone just screams bad person. And he knows he should avoid bad people. Point will probably try to talk to something that isn't menacing looking.

Monmon you know I can't do fire-related characters all the time or people will start to expect it of me. Also how much I like fire, like the pyro I am, doesn't mean I can't shop around and try something new. So I shall now fight people with art and an oversized pen.

Aww, we were totally going to make the entire cast a half-cat harem for Wight. On the other hand, I'm still proud of how close we got on the gender divide. We've just got some rivals to compete, that's all.

Nochi kinda pointed out something I noticed about the cast, though - we have an awful lot of animal inspiration. To be fair, I posted mine first, and T.Soul's much more of a "feline-predator" catgirl than a "cute kitty" catgirl.

Other than that, not much to do at the moment. The fresh arrivals (most of us) are still confused at their situation, and the only thing really to be done is us to stare at each other, maybe bite back at Nochi for her comment, or try and chat each other up. Most of us are paying more attention to Angel, though, so... who still has to post?

Wight can't have the ladies, Mercury wants the ladies... can we share? Split 50-50? I'll take men too. Equal opportunity over here.

I hope we get to screw over the status quo a bit, and at some point get Angel to reveal her nigh-godly secretly the 'Creator', possibly the 'Guardian' powers and come to smite us. Because really, what are the odds of us not 'accidentally' getting in a fight in Sanctuary? Do ya think "he started it" would cut any ice?

Nochi's a man-eater, huh? 'Dat Snausage machine/meat-grinder. Oh... well, we know who the dudes'll be all over.

Oh, alright! It looks like we got a place to sleep and hang out at now. This 'Redwood' place that Iron Chain's gonna hook us up with. Think it's a hotel/hostel?

I like Black Rock. She's got passion and she's determined. Seein' as everyone's already doin' there "pre-game hook-ups," I'll gladly follow.

"Wight & the Boyz" cat-girl harem? Well, Selene doesn't have any feline features, except for her slit eyes, and that small tooth pokin' out. I'll see how everyone goes with the introductions and then write up a post to respond to Black Rock. Don't want her to just leave with a false sense of hope.

Maneater with a funny accent to be exact. XD Since most characters would definitely not remember Earth, and she definitely does not remember where she's from (left it pretty ambiguous, though it's probably obvious), I therefore dub her accent the "Codfish Accent". XD

Monster Guy
18th May 2012, 8:06 PM
Crimson is definitely Bi.

But it's not like he wants to do everything with reproductive organs. He just likes people. If the person he likes just happens to be male, why should that make a difference?

Zincspider
18th May 2012, 8:14 PM
Because the the term is bi-sexual.
As in it has to do with a sexual drive.
Otherwise he's just a romantic. Asexual, if you will. He's in it for the feels, man.
Dem feels is good.
EDIT: Anyway, I don't think talking of romance so early in the RP is important. I don't want to invoke Sequel's wrath once more. He might pull a muscle.

EDIT: Posted.
Wight keeps getting distracted. But he's talking to BRS now.

Niihyl
19th May 2012, 12:54 AM
It's possible to be heterosexual while being homoromantic. As in, a man who is only sexually interested in women but emotionally vested in men, or vice versa. Mercury on the other hand, probably does want everything.

On that subject, I totally thought BRS was girl-crushing on Selene for a minute there, but then it might just be relief that she's finally being listened to.

Agreed with Zinc, for the sake of Sequel's heart, but also because I'm not a fan of preordained love. Dat 'love-at-first-sight' stuff is just silly. Let chemistry take it's course along with the story, not over it. No Romantic Plot Tumors here. (Who else thinks there should be bbcode specifically for TVTropes?)

Wordy
19th May 2012, 1:12 AM
@VB:

(Insert excuse here)
Length. So much catch-up. But at least this is getting off to a good start, nice and active. Hey, if everyone else who SUed posts, we'll be pretty settled.

Yeah, so Bliss is another vet. I'm assuming that fragile alliances often get broken at the tip of a hat when small groups find Shards and immediately they set about slaughtering one another. I can't imagine that in this world, things last all that long before people start fighty-fighty, because that's all they know. Love is dead here.

So BRS has a helluva job on her hands.

God, you guys are all so trusting. If a guy like Iron Chain (that description just sounds terrifying) came near me if I was new, I think I'd scream and run away. But, I guess on the other hand, he does sound experienced and welcoming. People naturally seek out groups blah blah blah thing.

In any case, Bliss's sweet *** is on the way down to BRS, so just put Pinky there if need be, TSR.

lol 'a certain other DT'
And I agree with GH's assessment of my wisdom.

Monster Guy
19th May 2012, 3:41 AM
Don't worry guys, I'm not a fan of preordinated love either. I like things like that to be developed properly...

Sorry I'm ignoring BRS. Crimson would support her too if he hadn't missed her speech, and had a clue what everyone was talking about... (He only just arrived after all. He's not exactly familiar with how Threshold works. You can't exactly expect him to suddenly jump on the Bandwagon when he's completely clueless, and suffering from Laser guided amnesia.)

Blivsey
19th May 2012, 4:22 AM
Aye. Relationships need to either be part of a character's backstory, be detailed as a pre-game, offscreen event or start during the story itself, and in all three cases they require natural progression.

Mm... Tempest Soul is just following whoever's got the most pull at the moment, which happens to be Iron Chain. Integrate herself and make alliances before striking out into an unfamiliar land and all that. She's still on her guard, mind, but not getting in too deep yet. It makes sense from a newcomer's perspective. She'll start to play the field when everybody leaves Sanctuary Square and reverts to the usual Threshold behavior rather than being all happy-feely-let's-be-friends. Now that I think about it, TS would have worked well as a previous inhabitant, but it's too late to go back on that now.

TS's last comment is directed at anybody - more likely at Neon Light or Mercury since they're established as nearby and aren't doing anything yet, but it's open to anybody else needing another jumping point.

TheSequelReturns
19th May 2012, 4:23 AM
There so needs to be code for TV Tropes.

Thank you Wordy. Yes VB, the Redwood is a large forest on the south end of Threshold where the trees are red as blood and the leaves white as snow.

I'm fine with the whole romance thing, but as Zinc and Niihyl have pointed out, it takes time to develop properly. Lets give it a few pages and get some interaction and activity going before we make that an issue.

@Niihyl: Yeah, BRS is sorta hyper and childish sometimes, but she's not exactly a kid either. She's just really friendly is all.

The good thing about having a large group of PCs like we do is that its perfectly fine for the group to splinter into smaller groups. In fact, I'm actually going to encourage it. Threshold's a big place, and there's a lot of NPCs out there waiting to meet (and/or kill) you.

@Wordy: Got it.

I'm gonna give the other players who havn't posted yet a bit longer to get their intro post in before we move on out of Sanctuary. In the mean time, feel free to talk to each other or any of my NPCs.

Zincspider
19th May 2012, 4:29 AM
So... is there anyone but BRS or Angel in the NPC choices? Did I miss someone or is that all?

Niihyl
19th May 2012, 5:19 AM
So, the three main NPCs and their (joinable?) factions seem to be;

Iron Chain: Subjugate Threshold, defeat all rival factions. Thus unity, thus peace

BRS: Revolutionary. Everyone works together in delightful harmony. Will still probably have to fight dissidents who don't seem inclined to peace, i.e Dead Master.

Angel: Live peacefully in Sanctuary for as long as one desires.

I might take you up on your offer, Bliv. Iron Chain's philosophy would probably appeal to Mercury most anyway, so she'd likely tag along to Redwood. But for the sake of keeping my options open, might tell BRS to look Mercury up if she ever needs someone to beat up anyone who's opposed to peace. Si vis pacem, para bellum.

TheSequelReturns
19th May 2012, 5:30 AM
Yes, Zinc's right this time.

There are several other factions we will run into along the way, and pretty much all of them are joinable.

I'm offering these three choices from the get go because the are some of the more reasonable and contrasting options available, and thus good to start with.

So while you have an accurate count for now Niihyl, there are four other factions we'll run into along the way. Deciding who to help, who to hinder, and who to ignore will have effects on Threshold as a whole as well. ^^

EDIT: Ah, so Zinc was paying attention.

I don't know about anyone else, but I haven't picked a faction, or side, yet. Iron Chain just seems to know the way around here, so I'm just going on tour (groupie?), I guess. I do want to meet Dead Master at some point, though.

Well, it was in-character. It made sense. There's no point having meta-knowledge influencing your decisions, as that's what RPing is all about- you as the player knowing that whatever happens is going to be varying degrees of bad, but you go for it anyways because it makes sense for the character who is actually in the situation to do so.

So yeah, have fun joining Iron Chain in the Forbidden Forest. I don't even think birds exist on Threshold, do they? So bird-washing is out of the question.
In any case, he knows that you don't have any Shards because you just Arrived, so you're not going to get beat up either. But whoooo knows. Maybe they'll attack you for blood and sport, ah-ha.

If you ever are wondering about a location or just Threshold in general, check out the "Threshold" tab on the first post of this DT. It goes into detail about the landscape and key locations.

@Wordy: Hitting the nail on the head.

Nope, Threshold is devoid of any animal life. Its part of what makes the land seem so... still.

Iron chain isn't that ruthless. He personally offered you an invitation, he's not going to stab you in the back over it. Still, you can't take everything he says at face value.

@Wordy: "He's the nice one"? What about "Beware the nice ones"? He'll turn out to be more of a cruel-*** than Zinc ever could be. Don't let his pleasant face and lies fool you. A ***** is supposed to be able to sniff out another *****, c'mon!

TheSequelReturns

@Mon: Hey now, I'm not as merciless as Zinc. Neon will get an actual role to play. Weither or not she actually gets killed off at some point is honestly going to be more a result of your choices rather than mine. Also, yay, someone reads Persona.

@Flame Mistress: Heck, if Neon is still up and kicking, I wouldn't mind you taking her back once your schedule clears up. Depends of course on how up to speed you can be with the RP.

@Zinc: Nope, its not too late. I say go for it.

@GH: I was wondering if anyone would have the gall to actually join DM's faction. After seeing Miasma, I can't think of an alternative for him. Either way, its going to be fun. And potentially horribly bad for everyone else.

And yes, you are free to turn turncoat. Just don't expect your previous faction to cut you any slack if you just up and leave. People generally aren't too forgiving of traitors.

"Beware the nice ones" refers to those who are overly nice. Cause that's usually a sign of hidden motives. I'm not overly nice. I'm just nice.

Monster Guy
20th May 2012, 3:14 PM
Beware the nice ones is my favorite character trope. Hence why CF/Leo exist. ;D

It means the nicer the person is, the more dangerous they are when angered. It has nothing to do with ulterior motives. (I don't think it does...)

@GH: Yeah, but I'm still not ready to pick one yet.

Where was Dead Master? It was just Angel, BR, and Iron at the end, right? I only know of her from past BR material. Selene definately would've confronted her if she was there. Dang it..

Is there any way I can run into her along Redwall? Does she hang with a group? I now have a goal. I'll see if I can find her, but maybe, I'll try to talk first.

I'm not joining Iron's crew, Selene's just looking for a place to chill, and Black Rock didn't look to me like she'd stick around, so I went. I haven't committed to a group yet.

Zincspider

She's not there. But finding her is not beyond your reach, most likely.
They're just talking about the possibility of Miasma joining her.

TheSequelReturns
21st May 2012, 6:25 AM
Dead Master's lair is in The Crown, which is in the northeast corner of Threshold. To contrast, Sanctuary is on the far west side, and the Redwood is on the south end. But, Dead Master's got a lot of ground that she consider's "her's", so getting anywhere near The Crown or the northern side of the Aquapolis will definitely put you on her radar.

Alternatively, you could just stick with Iron Chain. He's bound to fight her again eventually.

So Dead Master is looking at two potential recruits. And here I thought she'd be labeled a villain.

... You guys have read her bio on the first post of this, right?

Niihyl

Hey, villains are the most interesting of any tale. I love those guys. Especially if they're magnificent, manipulative, and cunning. The more threatening the better. Heath Ledger's Joker, or Hannibal Lecter. Petty villains... ngh. If you're going to be evil, be evil, not b*tchy.

Crimson doesn't have to fight him (unless he wants to); he just has to distract and confuse him by not being afraid by him (unless he really is scared like everyone else) and actually wanting to talk to him.

Tektek... I found everything for Pale Point except an oversized pen (or anything really good to substitute) and slight off colors and things that I could not change. I'm actually quite often on it so I can find things normally.

Everything else is pretty close how I imagine him. His head is just muddled with things now that I see this XD

Normal bodily functions do not apply in Threshold. This includes everything from bathroom breaks to hormones to aging to metabolic activity. And yes, it also includes the libido. That's not to say that one can't still feel attracted or feel pleasure. But its more sensual rather than sexual.

Also, on a less creepy note, I posted! Moving us right along and getting the plot all fueled up for takeoff. If anyone who is not staying in Sanctuary has anything to post about it, please do so before my next post, as that's were we start moving along into the rest of Threshold.

The nuns are normal souls just like everyone else. Well, maybe a bit more dedicated to their cause than most, but still. As far as sensuality goes, at least Bliss hasn't got the personality of a wet fish on top of her scantily-clad...ness. Still, the cat ears and scope eye could be a bit of a turn-off. Eh, at least she's willing to play along if she finds the opposite party interesting. If you're boring/dumb, she'll drop you quicker than... something very heavy? (exams stifle creativity)

I'm assuming based off of Threshold's rules that you can even recover from a decapitation... it may just take longer than a more straightforward death. Plenty enough time to chuck them over the Edge.

Poor nuns, being unable to find their middle-ground. If they're not violent, or slapstick, or singing... they're a bit strange. None of them tend to act remotely nun-like. Sadness.

I wonder if anybody else will splinter off to seek their true calling? It'll be interesting to see how the group splits as more faction leaders/philosophies are unveiled, and who sticks with BRS. We already know who's going for DM, ahoo.

Its not that you can't use the bathroom. Its that you no longer need to. Or are able to for that matter.

And every single thing in those visions will be explained. Eventually.

Yes, decapitation is a recoverable injury. Remember, even player characters will fully recover any bodily damage given enough time.

Well, there's still a few more paths out there. We'll see how far-spread our PCs get, and which of them is the most loyal to their initial factions, all in due time.

So... Revanche is a preacher for either the Knights Templar, French Revanchists, or the Religion of Evil. And Black Gold Saw shows up, being ridiculously awesome as always. Being named 'Demon' is a +1 in my book, and being introduced by sawing people into bits is also a +1.

What part of you needs to survive in order to... Survive? If you get decapitated and your body is thrown off the edge, will your head regrow a new body? Vice versa? Do you just respawn at Arrival?

shiningsloth13
23rd May 2012, 9:50 PM

TheSequelReturns
23rd May 2012, 9:55 PM
BGS kinda has this... issue with nuns if you haven't noticed. Naturally, being nuns, they took to calling her The Demon.

Any decently sized part of you. Any solid, non blood, piece of your body that's not super tiny will allow you to survive. There are a few catches however.

1. You still feel pain.

2. The time it takes for a wound to heal is directly proportional to how fatal it is.

3. If hit in something vital, aka your heart or brain or lungs, you will still blackout when they fail. This includes blood loss, though the tolerance is much higher here than normal.

Any sort of wounds, rather than slowly regenerate, will simply "respawn" after an appropriate amount of time. If you lose a finger, then a few minutes later and *poof* new finger. If you lose a hand, then an hour or so later, *poof* new hand. If you lose your head or get chopped in half, then several hours or so later, *poof* back to normal. The "respawn" is instantaneous. One second there's a dead body. The next second, there's someone lying there disoriented. Small cuts and other minor surface wounds are an exception. They heal normally, but at an accelerated rate and without scarring.

No one respawns at Arrival more than the initial appearance. Unless of course you believe BRS.

EDIT: Missed a part. If your body is tossed off of The Edge while you are still aware, then regardless of how much is tossed off, you die. If you are blacked out (see also, "dead") then your entire body must be tossed over. Otherwise, whatever's left will respawn. The respawn always occurs at the largest piece of your body.

shiningsloth13
23rd May 2012, 10:00 PM
That is very weird, but very convenient. I would imagine that regeneration is a long, painful process...

And dangit! I knew Smoke forgot to ask her something...

I thought my post was a bit short, then I went up and read the rest and saw that it was actually fairly average for a non-GM post. I like the shorter form - with that in mind, I'll have to start keeping up on this one better.

Offering T.Soul for the scouting party. She still hasn't found her true alignment here yet, anyway - Angel doesn't appear to do anything actively, B*RS has no apparent power and Iron Chain takes the "peace through superior firepower" approach, none of which really appeal to her. We'll see where she ends up once all the major players are out in the open.

So what happens with drowning or asphyxiation, then? Would you pass out, then get revived to consciousness when your heart stops and go through the entire suffocation process again? Cement shoes would be cruelly efficient torture, then....

TheSequelReturns
26th May 2012, 12:22 PM
Yeah, my posts are naturally going to be pretty long. And they'll only get longer as the players continue to spread out, but that's okay. I enjoy writing them.

Iron Chain's going to approve the little scouting party. Its not like he has anything to lose in the offer.

Drowning or suffocation will result in the "blackout" death state, where you will revive once the damage to your brain and lungs has reached its regen time. On that note, the only water in Threshold is that of the Aquapolis, and its not even knee deep at its deepest point. I suppose you could dig a hole, fill it with water, then tie rocks to someone and chuck them in. That would leave them in the death->revive->death->revive cycle, which would be pretty hellish. At the very least, Dead Master won't pull something like that. She enjoys screams too much to drown someone.

Will try to get post up today. It won't be long at all, as I have to go away from the computer for two days.
Just use it as you will.
Also, after doing a bit of research, Wight's accent was fine as it was. There's not that much difference in the two, really, and adding a Spanish accent on a middle-eastern character is just silly.

My post is going to be the same as what everyone else seems to be doing, (Saying that Revanche is too perfect, then walking away.) I'll wait untill we move on to the next part before getting something up.

The length of the post doesn't matter. As long as you get the point across, and don't break any rules (It's at least 200 words,) then your fine.

Besides, some of your short posts are longer than my long posts. xD And some of mine are only the length they are because I'm restating what has already been written. >_>

YEAH! CYAN GOT TALKED TOO!

...anyhow, that aside, she probably will join Revanche because of the way Smoke is talking and because she didn't pay any attention to anything whatsoever xD.

My next post will come up either tonight or tomorrow.

YAAAAAAAAY. FRIENDSHIIIIIIIIIIP.

I think that even though Revanche isn't telling us EVERYTHING, she isn't necessarily evil. Not like Dead Master is, anyways...

TheSequelReturns
28th May 2012, 5:33 AM
And the there were two...

I think I'll move us on soon, since it seems most everyone's got a post in.

Looking at tonight or tomorrow, so I may just wait for WBR. (And by extension, the last few who havn't posted yet.)

Also, Faction Breakdown! Here's the current standing.

Iron Chain: Tempest Soul, Mercury, Selene Herastyx
Dead Master: No one... yet.
Angel: Neon Light
Revanche: Smoke, Cyan Dash
Black Rock Shooter: Everyone else

We also havn't quite gotten to every joinable side yet. Some NPCs who don't even have factions (Sort of like BRS) may try to recruit you.

Blivsey
28th May 2012, 5:38 AM
Doesn't Iron Chain also have Selene Herastyx for the moment?

Hmm... I was holding off on reading too far into Revanche until my character had even heard of her, but given the conversation I might do a bit of digging. Hey, out of the four factions known to me, Dead Master is probably T.Soul's best bet in the long term.
EDIT: Ooh, a Knight Templar and a scholar - and the deceptive variety of both. I'll be keeping tabs on this one....

TheSequelReturns
28th May 2012, 5:43 AM
Ah yes. I thought I was forgetting someone.

Neat. Dead Master seems pretty popular. Which is probably a good thing for those involved.

Tempest may not have to wait very long to get some dirt on Revanche. She is going to scout out a certain destroyed shrine after all.

Oh, goody, a Tvtropes page! Will try to add a few tropes for eeeveryone~

Hmm, TSR, I think Black might have a problem. I kind of justified Miasma tagging along as he hadn't really listened to her before and didn't really know what she stood for, but now that she went and voiced her unwillingness to fight... well she kind of maybe needs to fight right now. Or not. I dunno, will see what happens when I start writing his post/see what others post first. He's gonna attack the group at some point though, that's kind of a given |D

I don't think most of you have any idea what you're in for. /Ominous Sound Effects

I'l be updating the GMPCs almost exclusively, so I leave the PCs in your hands.

@GH: Oh, well, that was to be expected I suppose. Also, now could be a time for him to earn his name. If that's how you want it to happen.

We'll see how things pan out.

Also, as a general inquiry to all of you faithful players:

Would you guys rather I update all the factions at once, thus consolidating my posts but making everyone wait for the slowest poster(s), or update each as we progress to keep momentum going? I'm currently in "Update everyone together mode", so how is that working for everyone?

shiningsloth13
30th May 2012, 6:13 PM
Personally, I think you should change to the "Update-each-faction-individually" modus operandum. Of course, as I am one-third of the smallest faction, that is an entirely selfish desire.

@TSR: And maybe afterwards he could wander off and wind up on DM's territory or something. Though he might decline joining her right now if offered, as he hasn't snapped enough yet. So yeah, making him fight the others might be a bit too early too... Well, we'll see. He definitely needs his name at some point though |>

As for the topic, well, I admit to being one of the slowest posters, so I'm not gonna vote on that. Whatever the majority wants goes with me on this one.

Yeah, I know right? XD Keep filling up the tropes! XD Fortunately, there are probably no Clingy Jealous people or Yanderes. XD Are there any Kuuderes, Danderes and Tsunderes? XD Also, Crimson can be Mr. Fanservice!

Vivian_Bloom
30th May 2012, 10:39 PM
Yeah. Selene, along with Tempest and Mercury, are with Iron Chain.

Ok, so Nochi is Ms. Fan-service? I don't think we have any tsunderes, cranberries, or anything like that. Hmm... Nope. Maybe Miasma's a... somethin'-dere? I don't know. The guy's scarin' me is all. Wight wants to woo all the ladies at some point. That'll be fun to see, but I wouldn't put him as Mr. Fan-service.

As far as posting goes; well, since we're breaking up and spreading all over Threshold, posting in the middle of different situations, I'm fine with the 'almost everyone at once' style you got goin' on right now. Some areas might be more active than others, so the length will depend on how much is happening. As long as we stay more or less even, than it's cool. Keep it goin'!

Updated TV Tropes a little bit. Man, its tough getting' used to that system, but -- let me stop talking about the Tropes page. I don't want to go too off-topic. So, coming back; what's your character's favorite ice cream?

shiningsloth13

Oh yes, VB. Definitely on-topic. XD To answer the question though, Smoke's preferred flavor of delicious frozen dairy product is mint chip. Just like mine. <3

Niihyl
31st May 2012, 12:18 AM
I vote for fragmented-factions-posting. Our groups aren't together, so there's no obvious need to consolidate GM posts. Momentum is better than fat GM posts, no matter how deliciously filling. Wouldn't want to slow out so soon.

Goddamn, people, with the TVTropes! ...I'll get on it.

Blivsey
31st May 2012, 12:19 AM
I would definitely rather the various factions getting individual responses as it they become necessary. As Niihyl noted, momentum keeps RPs from dying out.

Writing my post and thought of something - Neon Light's player has withdrawn already. Should her profile maybe be moved into the GMPCs or some other category, perhaps, since Flame Mistress only wrote a bio and one post worth of her?

Also, the character page is filling up quickly. Could some of that effort be redirected to the main page (which has neither a text description nor a fourth entry yet)?

P.S. - French vanilla. Neutral yet classy.

TheSequelReturns

Alrighty, since everyone so far has either said "doesn't matter" or "go with updating group-by-group", with the notable exception of VB, I shall be posting more frequent, smaller updates for each faction.

This does mean however that slower posters will have more to read and catch up on each time, and that you will have to seek out the post of mine where I updated that particular faction. We'll see how it works out, I can always go back.

I don't mind doing a page description. I'll see what I can cook up.

Also, @VB and friends: The shrine is made of wood. You guys are also outside of it. Re-read the last section of my last post if you need to to get a feel for the area.

I added Tropes to Point, lots and lots of trope..... Now that I'm thinking about it I'm still missing some. I had them in my head and then I forgot to search for them. I added Does Not Like Men to Nochi, just randomly found it. And I was thinking about adding Female Feline, Male Mutt to the main page though their only one technically 'mutt' of the group.

Pale Points favorite ice cream... he doesn't know never had it; his parents were really overprotective. Though if he were to try any flavor currently he'll probably instantly love it. Rainbow Sherbet might be it since it's colorful and would attract his roaming eyes.

Don't let all the fun of updating the Tropes page distract you guys from posting now. *winks* I promise things will get exciting soon enough.

Also, I've been informed that Killer Squirtle is dropping out. Therefore, Vendetta has been removed from the list of characters since she was never introduced.

When you add tropes (I figure it out by following others mostly) You just type the trope with no space b/w words and capitalize each one. Hmm... looks a bit fuzzier than what I expect B*RS characters to be, but so does approximately one-third of our player cast.

As for our group, Mercury's adequately provided a response. Adding anything before Gold Saw responds would just be padding the thread without actually adding anything, so that excuses the three of us for the moment.

TheSequelReturns
10th June 2012, 6:16 PM
Blivsey has a point. But I want to be able to update a bit more than that. The Revanche group and the Iron Chain group are going to be way ahead of Team BRS if this posting trend continues.

Not that I can blame anyone. With school starting myself, I know I'm falling behind on a few things here. But, as long as some of you post something, anything, when you can, we can keep moving even in the busy spells real life throws at us. Short posts are better than no posts.

Blivsey
13th June 2012, 8:13 PM
Hmm... well, in the past, this turned out to be a great solution:

For a certain other RP, niedude and I PM'd each other back and forth before our characters had a sparring match. We both offered up our characters' general fighting styles, then took turns suggesting moves and appropriate reactions (each for our own characters only). Once we had enough of the fight scripted out to constitute a decent-length passage, one of us wrote it up into a post, and after progressing a bit more in the script, the other player would post, etc., until we felt that the match had run its course or found a good stopping point.

This ended up being more efficient than directly posting and trying not to step on each other's toes, moved faster and allowed us to write the match more effectively overall. Do you think that a similar system might work here? Of course, we could run it by TSR for approval/reffing if necessary.

Vivian_Bloom
13th June 2012, 8:32 PM
PVP fighting? Well, the two sides definitely have to collaborate or it'll be one-sided. I've never done anything like that before and this is only my second RP.

I'd feel comfortable with just heavy iteration between me and my opponent. Take Mercury or Tempest, just as an example. If "we" as in, myself, Bliv, and whoever, know we're going to fight soon then we'll write it up like a game of catch, or hot potato. By the time our characters are at that point we should both have a good understanding of the others style. Like, I know she uses her discs for long-range, and she knows that I'm a heavy-hitter with my fists.

Once the setting is picked out I'll write up the scenario of the fight to conclusion, taking into account both parties abilities. I'll then send it over to the other player, have them look over it, and give some feedback. If they're really game, then we'll just write out a scenario of the battle at the same time, polish it up, and compare. I'll read theirs and they'll read mine -- we'll cut out and expand on certain parts, take a step back, and say...

"Alright, I like what you did there, but how about we have this happen instead?"

"Okay, I can see how that'll go."

Eventually, the best parts of our scenarios would be put together into one work. I can trust that person to keep the fight fair and even, so I wouldn't be running to check it with somebody -- but if you want to look over it, cool. Whoever posts the writing doesn't matter to me, it'll just be like this in the end.

SELENE/??? vs. ???

Redwood/Sanctuary

-----

P.S: We're just joining the factions. Angels, demons, nuns, etc. There's no one I can see myself fighting this early on, yet. Unless it's a stranger and there's a truck-load of Shards up for grabs.

GH on the other hand...

D: I KNEW EEET. Zinc has rubbed off on you, man. Not good.

Anyway, posted. I think all Miasma really needs is a calendar to help him keep track of things, srsly. Just as an idea for a birthday gift for him.

Oh, and I went on to make the assumption that Crimson would have been paying attention to Nochi more than to Miasma, because getting punched in the balls - whether effective or not - kinda does steal your attention pretty well.

As for the PvP... Well uh, I think we're about to have some of that like, right now, so I agree it'd be best to discuss this now. Personally, I don't like the whole "let's collaborate on a PM and then post the final result as one post" style. I mean, I'm alright with planning the battle beforehand in a PM, but I'd much rather me and my partner write the battle out in turns on the actual thread. Not only does solely working with PMs make the thread look dead, it tends to take a veeery long time for me, because I sometimes forget to check my PMs/forget to check whether or not I've already replied to someone, etc. That, and if there are other characters around, writing everything in a PM and then dumping it into the thread kind of prevents anyone else from joining into the fight.

The style I'm most used to is to just leave attacks and the like open-ended, as in "John did this and this and then aimed a kick at Jane's head", with the player of Jane then deciding whether or not said kick connected or not and proceeding to attack on their own. Some parts can be planned out ahead, and the players can agree on some other rules, such as that if it's humanly impossible to evade something (a surprise punch from point blank) then it can be written as a hit straight away. Of course, this needs all of the players to be willing to receive blows and not have their character dodge everything. Then again, maybe we could incorporate reffing into that to make sure things like that won't happen...

Bah. I'm not being helpful.

Good thing I'm finally caught up on all my other RPG's and stuff. :P

I haven't read the post yet, I just got out of bed. Will respond to it later.

As for the PvP... uh... I really don't care. I can adapt either way. :/

Edit: Ok, just read it. xD Hm...If bodily functions don't apply in Threshold, then how does strangling someone work here? They wouldn't "need" to breathe. xD

As for what to have him do, uh...I'm not sure yet. xD

I'm considering either letting him die, and have respawn in a few minutes, or pulling out his weapon, and whacking the guy with it, or starting a fire. :3

Most likely the latter.

Miasma's going to have a field day once Crimson starts a fire 8D Because smoke... fire... you get it. Ah. BRS's group is going to be thrown into a mild state of chaos~

As for the strangling thing, eh, no idea how it works. Fortunately Miasma has no idea either, he's just doing things the way he's used to.

What GH suggested could work out fairly well considering I have at least one GMPC present within each group in case I need to step in. I think you guys can handle letting your character lose. After all, you'll come back eventually. So enjoy letting your character get horribly beaten. Of course, those of you who want to collaborate can still do so.

@Mon: Unfortunately for some of you, breathing is the exception to that rule.

@GH: Congrats, you just turned Team Switzerland into a hostage situation in less than a minute. You should be proud of yourself. And Zinc's not rubbing off on me so much as he is insulting me everytime I go easy on you guys. And Zinc, I know you read this. And if you don't, then why aren't you? Speaking of which...

@Zinc: GH posted Zinc. You don't have an excuse anymore. *claps hands* Chop chop now.

@Mon: I know you got the reference, but not everyone necessarily did 8>

And so, I was trying to decide whether or not the card'd hit (since on the other hand Ferris is a good shot, while on the other Crimson and Miasma were covered in a thick smoke cloud), but after reading Mon's post it seems like I don't need to worry about that anymore. BD Mwah. Will post tomorrow morning, I really can't do so tonight. My head's killing me.

Oh, and as a quick reminder; the smoke's actually poisonous as mentioned. So yeah, steer clear.

Monster Guy
14th June 2012, 10:19 PM
I thought the smoke was mostly going in Nochi's direction.

Blivsey
14th June 2012, 10:20 PM
Hmm... poison clouds... So, basically, you're resigned to a tie at best if you're caught anywhere in range. Good luck, melee fighters... how fast-acting is the poison, BTW? *already forming strategies to dealwithit.gif*

Dammit, TSR. Thanks to you and your revival mechanics and the miracle of Fridge Horror, over the past week I've thought of half a dozen of the least humane methods of torture made possible by this system. (Un)fortunately, it'll be quite some time before Soul has any reason to use any of them. Perhaps as a treacherous vizier....

Also, is there anyone around here that doesn't read the Persona threads? I'm reading a resounding no from this crowd.

Niihyl
14th June 2012, 11:48 PM
I'll... er... do something that resembles posting either today or Saturday. This is my finals week, after all, so I may or may not find a good time.

@Blivsey

Watch a little Baccano and you'll find a myriad of immortal-torture methods. Cement shoes happened, as we've discussed earlier.

Blivsey
15th June 2012, 12:07 AM
Oh, trust me, I've watched Baccano! (the exclamation point is mandatory) several times. Mine were largely based on the regenerative process itself - all you just did is remind me to branch out for sources of inspiration. *sinistergrin*

For this, though, Mercury gains a small advantage to saving throws against Soul. How pleasant.

TheSequelReturns
15th June 2012, 12:51 AM
@Zinc: Show that storm who's boss.

@Blivsey: Well, yeah. Considering I have an entire faction who loves them some torture, I had to give them some room to be creative.

Speaking of which, you sound like you're ready to sign-up with DM.

Considering our cast consists of 90% past or present Persona players, the actual Persona GM among them, and Mon who is apparently our biggest fan, I think ShiningSloth and rotrum are the only ones who don't, though they can correct me if I'm wrong on that.

Will post an update for all three groups in around... 15 hours or so. So if anyone has anything to post before then, please do so.

Niihyl
15th June 2012, 1:12 AM
Mercury will probably tag along with Tempest Soul if she joins DM. Because TS is a bro and killing things is fun.

To assist Blivsey in his strategizing to deal with Miasma's smoke (although they may end up on the same team with DM... but then again, "have a plan to kill everyone you meet".), welcome to "How to Kill It!", hosted by Doc Nii.

Speed of death is variable. The chemical structure of Miasma's smoke can change, anything from poison to acid to boiling steam. He prefers Carbon monoxide, apparently, which messes with your hemoglobin and causes suffocation + blood vessel leakage. He can also change into smoke as a form of overdrive, which would render him generally immune to attack unless you're a Ghostbuster or Luigi. Anyone got a vacuum? :P

Recommended solution: Ranged combat, preferably ambush. Melee is tough - can't get through a boiling acid aura with a melee weapon, especially since the smoke can spread pretty far. So, someone with indestructible ranged weapons could shoot him down from afar before he notices and goes up in smoke.

Then chain him to the bottom of a watering hole. Water should counteract the smoke, or at least make it backfire. Voila! Threat neutralized.

Monster Guy
15th June 2012, 1:14 AM
^ CF has a "ranged" weapon, but he's not in a fighting mood right now.
---

I'm not the biggest fan. xD I just stalk active RP's when I'm bored and have nothing to do. xD

On a related note, am I the only one who read that whole Ciara/Miyuki bathroom incident back in POP that didn't think "OMG, Ciara's a *****!" :/ All she did was give some advice. (If you dry yourself slower, you'll be out of here quicker.) Yeah, the way she did it wasn't the nicest way to go about it, but that's just her personality. The only real mean thing she did there was the whole bit with the chocolate. Miyuki is just overreacting. After that, the other characters suddenly start refering to her as an Ice Queen, and I didn't see it. :/

I've been dying to say that forever.

What does this say about me? xD

rotrum
15th June 2012, 1:41 AM

Actually, isn't Carbon monoxide combustible? Crimson makes fires, doesn't he?

Blivsey
15th June 2012, 2:05 AM
@TSR: T.Soul just may join DM yet, in fact. Might have joined BGS if she had bothered to try and recruit her. She kind of goes to the highest bidder.

@Niihyl: Yes, carbon monoxide is incredibly flammable. It also forms carbon dioxide and ozone upon contact with oxygen, which are non-flammable and highly flammable respectively. Science! Given your description of Miasma's smoke, though, I can think of a lot worse uses for it than any form of poisoning. Not saying out in the open while GH is listening.

EDIT: Also just thought of a character-specific "technique" for Miasma. Will require further experimentation.

Hmm... so Niihyl is working on methods for killing people, and I'm working on ways to break them. I see a prosperous future here.

Monster Guy

Got caught up in a few things today, so my apologies for missing my update time.

I forgot that I'm still waiting on Sloth and Winter to update Revanche's group, so I'll give them a bit more time there. In the meanwhile, I'll have an update for the rest of you guys soon.

So DM's looking at three recruits... considering player choices and actions are going to affect faction strengths in Threshold, she might be the highest bidder after all...

@Mon: Lets hope the smoke stays clear of that fire then, hmmm?

@Bliv and Nii: You guys would make Agony and Misery proud. That's pretty much their job description.

GoldenHouou
17th June 2012, 7:23 AM
I find it amusing how you two're trying to find ways to counter Miasma 8P Don't worry guys, he can't control his powers properly yet, so he most likely isn't able to change the smoke's chemical structure all that much. Once he learns though, yeah, carbon monoxide's gonna be his favorite. Invisible/odorless poison clouds capable of knocking you out in 2 to 3 breaths if concentrated enough ftw! But yeah, right now the fire might not necessarily be a problem, as I haven't decided what poisonous gas it is. Though I do like me some explosions, so~

As for the topic of ways to torture immortals, hehe, I've had immortal characters before, so I have a huge stash of torture methods up my sleeve too~ Actually, no, they don't fit in my sleeve, so I made a book. Buy it gaiz, totally worth it. Can't wait to have someone tell Miasma about the immortality thing too so he can go eeeexperimeeeent. Of course, I think I can't implement even half of the things I've thought up because of the uh, RPG's rating. Meh.

And aww, come on Bliv, you know you made me curious now D: Tell me. Telll meeeee. We’re probably going to be on the same side anyway (pffft, like Miasma’d care about these silly ‘sides’). Otherwise I’ll hop over to harass you by PM instead. Pwease, I'll even throw in some puppy dog eyes (freshly plugged out!)

Update ahoy!

Miasma got shanghaied, then keelhauled, fun times.

Maybe Miasma can shimmy his way down? Sticky fingers?

Oh my, Miasma's going to have fun~ Well, okay, he isn't, but I am and that's all that matters. BD

Now I'm pondering if I should have him just tediously climb down normally or use this as an opportunity for him to learn how to turn into smoke. Hm.

Either way, planning on posting soon.

TheSequelReturns
24th June 2012, 9:20 AM
Or he could just fall off and regenerate later. Whichever works for you.

All of our players here seem to be a bit busy, what with school and real life stuff and whatnot, (and our Persona players are no doubt preoccupied with a Boss Fight), but hopefully we can get keep things rolling slowly but surely here.

Once posting picks up again, I'll move us on to our first major battle. GH, feel free to have Miasma spot the collective forces of Dead Master making their way towards the Aquapolis. If he looks towards the edge of the cliff surrounding The Cradle, he'll also spot what appears to be a pirate ship.

GoldenHouou
24th June 2012, 10:38 AM
Hmm, yeah, that could work too. That way he could learn about the whole regenerating thing... Ah, the possibilities.

DM's forces, huh? He might just go stalk them instead, then. BD And a glance at what appears to be a pirate ship? Got it.

Sorta neglected this one - been in training for work most of this week, but I've had enough time and my Persona post is recent, so I don't have so much of an excuse. I'll try to have something up by the time that I have to commence radio silence from this evening until Friday, but no promises. Post up now. It's 1.00 A.M. here and I've hardly edited, so do point out if I've missed something.

And with that, Tempest Soul begins to plot her exit and the Iron Chain Girls (for that is what they shall call us in legends) continue to move ahead. We do seem to have three of the regular posters who are already comfortable with one another in a group, so it was bound to happen.
