Discuss and about the NEW GEN 6 POKEMON, and the rest of the Pokemon in Pokemon X & Y.

All posts should be constructive and must contain ideas, support/elaborate their ideas, and must contribute to the discussions and/or on-going arguments. Also, one-liner posts such as "I agree.", "I want [this] to be in the game!", "This sucks!" will all be considered SPAM, deleted and you will be possibly infracted.

Let's promote a worthwhile discussion!

Hmmm while i'm not 100% certain on why we have 2 threads for this (I guess to document pre-games and then post release) but i am really loving Gardevoir this gen. She has always been a favourite of mine but this gen has taken her from Awesome to Fabulous ahahaha. Her mega-evo design coupled with her new fairy type makes her a perfect representation of the royal fairy family in game. Now my question is where abouts do we catch Ralts/Kirlia in Kalos ahahhaha?

I have to say this about Gen VI; for having 69 pokemon, they are all of good enough quality that I could see myself raising each of them as time goes on. There really aren't any fillers this gen, imho, like Spinda or Corsola. I like that.

Heliolisk is easily the best Electric type available in the regional dex, aside from Mega Ampharos and whatever other Electric types get a mega.

It has above average speed and special attack for an Electric type (If you consider base 105 to be standard), plus Dry Skin makes it an excellent counter to Water types.

Though if you're talking looks, can't help you there.

And for some funny reason, i really like Klefki. I usually hate those stupid object-based pokemon, but I saw Klefki and I couldn't stop laughing. I really like the little guy. It's typing is pretty nice too. Immunity to Poison AND Dragon!

Most of the time, links dont work, so I only see stats if people directly post it. Even then, Im not good at figuring out what it translates to lol. i can admittedly say that i am slightly disappointed that theres only 69 new pokemon in 6th gen - i was expecting itd be at least 150. i think the reason why the amount of the new pokemon is so small its because of the Mega Evolution concept that brings the old ones to be the "new" pokemon.

but as a person whos inherit the value of equality in the pokemon world, all is good - maybe there are some new pokemon waiting to be discovered in the next version which have made hidden. either way, im waiting for that surprise.

right now, im going to form a new team in 6th gen!

This is the third gen for which I have been watching live, as I became a proper fan after RS were released.

I have to admit, I am severely disappointed, for the first time. There are some amazing new Pokémon (I think the only two new ones I don't like are Bergmite and Avalugg), but I feel the possibility of newer additions was compromised for the sake of Mega Evolutions. I understand so many people love the idea of Mega Evolutions, but not a single one has appealed to me and I don't think it's a feature I plan on using. It's just surprising and disappointing because I have previously found next to nothing to complain about with previous generations.

From what I understand, seasons have gone away too. *sigh*

Oh well, no big deal. I will get the games some time in the next few months. Preferably before the Torchic distribution ends. In the meantime, I will patiently wait for Gen VII and hope it's more like Gen V in terms of new Pokémon, and hoping Mega Evolutions are only for this generation.

I am legitimately content with the fact that so many others are pleased with everything they have seen this gen. Now I hope for RS remakes even more.

That special Garchomp revealed was from CoroCoro, right? Does that mean CoroCoro is leaking, and we should get more Scans?

Really wanna see some official art for more Mons. :P
Yeah, it seems to be leaking, and we're bound to get more scans (and maybe more artwork). I'm not sure, but apparently Mega Kangaskhan could be in because of this:

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rwowZM7Z3Ws/UlaQFHMKA0I/AAAAAAAAG_8/PZhLweegK7Q/s1600/Mega+Kangaskhan+from+Futaba.jpg

Not sure if it's real though.
I wonder if there's anything else special about this Garchomp or about Garchomp in general. The location of its Mega Stone will be revealed in the next issue, but would it be possible for anyone to find it before that? I have a feeling there's something special about Garchomp (watch it have version specific mega evolutions as well)

Espurr is personally my least favourite X/Y Pokemon, it just looks hideous and creepy like a possessed teddy! Should have been a Ghost type, haha. Its up there with Audino as Pokemon I would hate to wake up to and find starring at me in the dark! *Shudders

Yes Espurr is tied with Doublade to be my least favorite as well. It is just a boring, ugly version of Meowstic (who I like a lot).

I have to say this about Gen VI; for having 69 pokemon, they are all of good enough quality that I could see myself raising each of them as time goes on. There really aren't any fillers this gen, imho, like Spinda or Corsola. I like that.

I guess the definition of "filler" varies a lot between people; I consider the starters to be filler, after all. Pokemon like Corsola and Spinda are far more interesting to me than things like starters since we get them every generation, anyway.

I'm torn between using Lapras, now that I know it has a unique surfing animation, and Kingdra. Or maybe even Dragalgae, although I'd have to trade for one and it would no longer be Water upon evolving. Decisions, decisions...

This generation introduced a lot of Dragons! And thankfully, only one legendary one. The last few generations have been driving me crazy with the amount of legendary Dragons. There could be more unique legendary typings, you know? And I've said it before, but we don't really need more than one to two legendaries per generation, anyway... I'm really crossing my fingers and hoping there are no hidden event legendaries. They're so useless. Ugh.

Man. I wish the 3DS card could have a larger capacity for data. All this 3D stuff limits the amount of new Pokemon added, not to also mention that MegaEvolutions count as part of the data bit. To be honest, I was expecting more legendaries. I think Nintendo got "lazy" and decided to sub in the Legendary birds in lieu of an actually base 600 trio.

I'm just really disappointed that there are no new cross-generation evolutions bar Sylveon like what Gen IV had.

Actually, that's a good question. Does the 69 Pokemon include potential evolutions of pokemon from previous Generations or do MegaEvolutions take over this position.

For starters, I love Espurr too. It's so creepily cute, and entrancing... it looks like something from a horror movie, like a possessed kitten, and I love it. Or maybe, it can't bear its great psychic power, so it looks like it does with bloodshot eyes because of that? I think Espurr may just become one of my new favorite Pokemon. And then of course, there is the lovely Meowstic...

Meowstic's stats are something like 80-90/50/90/110/110/90, I think. It's on Smogon somewhere.

It should be possible as its in Kalos Dex, but we don't know the location.

And others are obtained very early except Skrelp which I think was around fifth Gym.

Specifically, it should be something like this:

Ralts and Eevee- Between first and second.
Honedge-Between second and third or earlier.

Honedge is found after first gym, after you defeat snorlax there's some tall grass you can find it in. ^.^

Eevee is between the first and second gyms, we don't know about the Water Stone, and I would check the Kalos dex for the rest of those Pokemon (Milotic isn't in it). If the remaining Pokemon aren't in the Kalos Dex, then they're most likely post-game.

Oh, cool.

Any news on how to get Sylveon?

For those whining about only 69 new Pokemon, look at how many standalone Pokemon Johto/Sinnoh had. Not too much of a difference.

Generations II and III weren't just stand-alones, though. And in total they had 100 Pokemon; that would've been a little better, I think.
That's not to say we didn't get some nice Pokemon, but I just feel so disappointed because I expected a huge amount of Pokemon when information about the games was beginning to come out... just a little bit of a let-down, you know?

My thoughts exactly!
Hopefully, it'll get a megavolution with a Normal/Fairy typing, or something. I think that'd be fitting.

Mega Evolution to me fills in the non-standalone slots that the other even gens had.

Megavolutions don't really count for me because they aren't new Pokemon with new names and new dex spots and everything; so far all they've really amounted to is fanservice forme changes to Pokemon that were already overpowered, so now Pokemon like Dustox and Corsola will have an even harder time catching up. They just push the power creep even further, instead of balancing it out by buffing the Pokemon that could actually have used the buffs.

No, it isn't. Also, Joe likely didn't catch it either way, so arguing about it doesn't matter anyways.

So, here's the Pokémon that appeared in footage, statue or as a painting but aren't a part of Kalos Dex:

Rampardos(Skull Fossil is likely obtained the same way Root, Claw and Armor fossils were, post-E4 rock smashing)
Milotic(which really baffles me but whatever)
Palpitoad(again, really baffles me)
Petillil(doesn't baffle me much because they probably couldn't have another spot for Cottonee as well)
Tepig-line(which I still wonder whether it is available in some manner post-E4)
Snivy-line(same as above)

And there are loads of version counterparts that got shafted, but B2/W2 did that too so whatever.

The thing that surprises me is we didn't get Clefairy anywhere in the Kalos dex.

Clefairy!

It didn't appear in any of the pre-release material, so it isn't that baffling. I mean, if it was accessible early on, you think they would mention that Clefairy, the original franchise mascot and the original regional escape item basis, is now pure or partially Fairy.

Well then what about it makes it befitting of a Fairy typing?

I just see a plain mammal with no mystical qualities. It heals things, yes, but that's because it is supposed to be a doctor.

I don't have much, besides its bipedal nature, vest-like pattern, Egg Group(which it doesn't share with any other Group) and coloring. It would be much more dead set on if it was Female-only instead of %50 chance of being either gender.

But it is still a bipedal mammal that takes qualities of a doctor. It is like calling Lopunny just a rabbit and ignoring its bunny girl characteristics. It doesn't have mystical qualities, but it still has more basis than just a single animal. So I am really arguing against the latter than arguing for the former.

That's simply because so many Pokémons were included overall. The ones missing aren't terribly unique, being ones like the Rattata, Tyrogue and Clamperl lines. Only unique line I can think of missing right off the bat is the Shiftry line, which is just super odd since Ludicolo is in, and possibly Milotic if it is part Fairy now.

I'm probably one of the few to love the fact they've only introduced 69 new Pokemon, perhaps that's because they've added a substantial amount of my favorite older Pokemon into the dexes. Shiny Vivillon only has a body change(it is mostly white while wings remain unchanged). It seems that the change is based on climate(ie. same country might have different forms depending on the climate) and Vivillon can apparently be changed by changing the region of 3DS, but probably it is set when the game is started(so further changes don't mean anything).

I know I really should have a Pokemon that can use fly in my play-through team and although Talonflame is nice, I really would much prefer to use Spritzee however it's evolution does not look like much of a flyer. Despite initial looks, short anime clips have shown Spritzee at least to be capable of flight, not that the anime is a sold predictor of the games and vice-versa.

I MUST have a fairy on my team, but at the moment it stands with Sylveon, unless Spritzee can replace both Talonflame and Sylveon in my main-play-through, freeing up one new spot on my Y playthrough!

You can always just trade lol
I'm getting Y because the only X exclusive I want is the legendary.

There is a lot of variation. Would have liked to see more new pokes, but hopefully these new guys will make up for that with having decent stats. There is definitely a lot of choices there when picking a team.

I highly doubt that Aromatisse will be able to learn Fly, considering the fact that it doesn't have any wings. Spritzee being able to fly a little bit doesn't really mean anything.

One word: Dodrio :P

I've designed what my team is going to be, but it's probably going to change in game.

There is too many pokemon I want to get

BUT if the Ruby and Sapphire remakes are true, I can hold off on some of the old pokemon I want to get until then

Eh, at least it's still a bird (and a bird that can jump incredibly high). Nothing about Aromatisse suggests that it would be able to Fly.

So has it been discovered how to get pokémon with their hidden abilities besides the Friend Safari?

One of the NPCs mention that you can see rare Abilities in horde battles. I posted that on the older Gameplay thread.

Pokémon can have new Characteristics. I just caught a Skiddo that "Takes plenty of siestas".
Are you sure that isn't a remade "often dozes off".

Perhaps, though every other characteristic I've seen has been the same as before.

Butterfree can learn Venoshock through TM now, though I doubt anyone cares.

I think Spritzee is able to levitate via faerie magick and not via powered flight. Aromatisse could levitate in a similar way, but learning Fly doesn't seem plausible to me.

Just note if/when you find "often dozes off" to see if my idea can be debunked.

On the same note, note when you found another new one.

So a question on Vivillon...

If one is traded, does the color stay the same? Or does it change to that specific region again?

If it stays the same, I think Tajiri finally found the perfect bug catching game.

Yes Houndoom is exclusive to X, apart from Swirlix and Charizard X I am happy with the results of my purchase. If the Manetric mega stone rumour is true and its exclusive to Y then that makes me wonder if Houndoom will get a MEGA?

I heard it was post-league.

Victory Road, unless it has a very low encounter rate somewhere else.

Carbink is so much cuter ingame than it seems from the screenshots. You can clearly see it's eyes! It's a shame it doesn't evolve or have a different forme.

I know that Aggron (one of my favourites) is exclusive to X but I really hope its Mega stone is available in both games.

T-Tar and Aggron don't bother me as I've got both already trained up on White so come Pokemon Bank I'll just trade both over.

So Vivillion changes depending on where you live? Interesting.

I'm guessing the British one is green then, if that's the one in the site?

Haha, I thought that too! I think it's really adorable. If it had better stats/an evolution I'd probably have ended up using it.

My favourite Pokemon this gen are probably Greninja, Dragalge and Aegislash, but there's so many more that I really love (Heliolisk, Pancham, Pyroar, Goomy...). Even if the number is kind of disappointing I think it's a really solid batch all round.

strange way of determining the appearance. Is it different for every country or is it the same for say all countries in Europe?

I haven't played yet, but Dragalge and Aegislash are definitely two of my favs, along with Yveltal, Malamar, and Delphox.
