Yeah, this is the new Competitive MS guide, plz if u will post anything, make it intelligent (Thanx Bayleef XD).
Don’t post things like “What does Hidden Power is” or “Are u an idiot? HOW THE HELL I’LL OBTAIN ALL THAT SUBSTITUTES!!!!”

To find the pokemon moveset u want, just press CTRL + F & write the name of the pokemon.

All this sets were made by me at NB,in the Team Builder.Lots of these Movesets are Standards (that’s what I suppose =P)

I could have messed up some of this sets, because I was tired of making this alone (Oni helped me in the 1st generation),if u look a messed set,& if u know what u are doing,,fix it & I will edit the set.

Or if u want to make a new good optional set for any poke,I’ll post it too.

Blastoise has 212 HP, with the rest split between Sp.Atk and Def. And what's with all the variations on boah?

16 HP EVs on Raichu, to make HP divisable by 16+1. HP:Ice or Grass are also good on Magneton. And you have Hyper Beam on Tauros. Is that a joke?

Ampharos EVs: 136 HP / 147 Atk / 70 Spd / 157 SAtk Right. You have 4 wasted EVs between Atk and Sp.Atk. Those EVs should be somewhere else, where they will be useful.

WitchKing_Ringwraith

With Dragonite's 'boah' set I don't really see the need for those HP EVs. :/ I may be wrong though.

Edit - With Hypno you also might want to add Skill Swap to screw up Resters.

Divisible by 16 + 1 rarely makes a difference. How often are you gonna be poisoned/burned and not get hit during that time?

As for Hyper Beam, with Tauros's movepool I'd consider it an option over Iron Tail. It basically equals a weak Explosion...

I don't know if that's standard, but I kinda made that EV spread by myself. Its 150 Dfn, so you have 300 Dfn, and rest in Satk.

There, just please keep the nick so people know that this is my set/spread.

Also, please for groudon, add the strategy in my sig, as that is what I found after about 20 or so battles to be the best groudon set. It NEEDS a speed pass though.

Deoxys-F should have extremespeed.

Latios should have soul dew, and dragon claw, thunderbolt, calm mind, recover. That is standard. Psychic is a waste. Oh and it only needs 307 Speed, get modest nature, max Satk, rest EVs in HP. 307 outspeeds jolly groudon(which is garbage).

Otherwise, 5000% improvement over the other guide.

Basically the normal set with the addition of max Sp Attack EVs and HP: Electric for taking down Gyarados/Vappy/Lapras/anything else that might give it a hard time. It needs enough speed to outrun the Standard Vappy to get in a CM HP: Electric before it gets hazed is the only thing.

Don't get me wrong, KaiserGroudon is a killer wall, but when a fire/grass/water type comes out, you have to switch and lose those BUs. Jolly groudon only ties with kyogre, and has a 50% chance to be OHKO'd by ice beam. Also, jolly groudon dies to lati@s, and Groudon80 (with the boost) can outspeed him easily. Groudon80 should only be used with ninjask though.

I have a question about Arcanine's nature, it's set as lonely in your guide. Couldn't you set it to Naughty to Intimidate on the switch against a physical poke and possibly take just one more hit to set up another Howl? Or is it because just about every physical poke has EQ or RS?

1: 384 HP/200 Def/250 Sp.Atk/350 Sp.Def/208 Spd

2: 368 HP/270 Def/250 Sp.Atk/302 Sp.Def/208 Spd

Both spreads have even leftovers recovery, and outspeed Marowak. The first gives 300 Def after MS, while mine gives 405 Def.

This Raichu MS might work, but you'll need some CMs BPed to you and no Sandstorms.

Raichu@Salac
Timid, EVs: 252 Spd/Sp. Atk/6 HP
~Static
-Thunderbolt
-Thunder Wave
-Endure/Focus Punch
-HP Water/Ice/Grass

Here's how it goes. The opponent switches to Dugtrio. Endure. Dugtrio EQs and you survive. Then HP. Or, BP to Raichu to force a switch while you are tightening focus.

Raichu doesn't need thunder wave (static + dies in like one hit anyway), using Substitute > T-Wave and Focus Punch instead of endure is prolly the best it can do, and it'd be better with hasty/naive > timid.

lol, you need to take a chill pill bud

yes, the sets sucked because we tried to make them compatible w/ all 3 types of battling (competitive, battletower/link battle) If we made a guide only for netbattle, then i dont think the guide would have had Dragonclaw/ Hidden power fire/ice for sceptile, now would it?

and the fact that we made the guide BEFORE the emerald tutors came out and the fact that we didnt copy smogon (smogon wasnt even up at that time) HT & I should get some slack cut off >.>

sets werent updated w/ emerald tutors + no guideline of the standards + had to be compatible with all 3 types of battling, i think the sets would suck

Tyranitar (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 Atk / 160 Spd / 98 HP
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Dragon Dance
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide
- Hidden Power [Flying] / Taunt / Substitute

Hidden Power [Flying] is actually not an acceptable option. I will explain why:

The reason he has Hidden Power [Flying] is for his major counter: Heracross. However, there is a major problem with that: it's not necessary. OK, obviously the HP Fly was intended to be used after a Dragon Dance, as otherwise Heracross will just outspeed you with a Brick Break/Megahorn. So, lets assume you Dragon Dance once as he switches in: Your average Heracross has 302 HP, and a Dragon Dance'd Rock Slide has a slight chance to KO him with a max atk +Adamant Tyranitar's Rock Slide.
Minimum Damage 263
Average Damage 286
Maximum Damage 309
Now I ask you this: Even if he did kill Tyranitar with HP Fly, you're still sacraficing one of the most important moves to this set: Taunt. This makes sure that no pussy-*** ***** will Thunder Wave, or Will-o-Wisp your sorry ***. It also stop P-hazers (a common one is Skarmory, perhaps you've heard of him.) Substitute can do some of these things, but HP Fly can not. So, basically, to counter one Pokemon (maybe two if you count Breloom) you're opening a window for 50+ other counters.

And also:

Tyranitar @ Choice Band
- Rock Slide
- Earthquake
- Focus Punch
- Fire Blast/Hidden Power [Flying]

is also a very good option.

Just a slight error. Jumpluff's nature is listed as Jolly, when it most likely should be Timid. It has no Physical Attacking moves, while HP Grass, a Special Attack, is suggested as an option over something.

And Dunsparce, I think it was, has 252 EVs into two Stats, but no 6 in anything else.

And Truant is spelled as Truatn in Slaking's MS and EV Spread, Breloom is spelt as Brellom, Zangoose is spelt as Zanngoose, Manectric, is spelt as Macnetric, and Pelipper is spelt as Peliper. Just a few little nitpicks :p.

Well, the error then is that HP Grass is suggested over HP Flying. So that's the problem.
And, with Murkrow, I believe HP Ground is a possible option as well, as it covers Steel, Rock, and Electric Types, and Fighting covers Steel, Rock, and Ice. Three Type coverage for each, so they both seem alright to use.
And again, isn't HP Water a better choice for Magneton? It covers Rock and Fire, two of its major weaknesses. Fire covers Steel, which Thunderbotl covers neutrally.

I have a may-be alternative moveset for Blissey if you're interested. This alternative moveset is for those of you who don't have the luck to get Heal Bell/Aromatherapy on a Bold Natured Blissey because of the fact that the Everstone's effect(passing the holder's nature onto the offspring) won't work on males(because the only pokemon that can utlilitize the Everstone's effect are females and Dittos)and/or if the version you're using isn't the Emerald version, so if your only Bold Natured Pokemon is a Ditto, and you want to carry Aromatherapy/Heal Bell onto a Baby Chansey, then you could be either out of luck or in luck: One reason why you might be out of luck is because the only Pokemon that can pass down Egg Moves to offspring are males, and because Chansey is always female, plus the fact that she can't get Heal Bell/Aromatherapy any other way than as an Egg Move, and the fact that males can't utilitize the Everstone's effect to pass it down, and finally the fact that Ditto can't permanently learn any move other than Transform in any way possible(meaning he can't pass down Egg Moves). But a reason why you might be in luck is contained in this scenario: if a Ditto holding the Everstone item isn't present, yet the Female holding the Everstone item is present, the odds of passing down the mother's nature is 9.3/31, and the odds of inheriting the father's nature is 2.17/31, and the odds of NOT inheriting either's Nature is 19.53/31. And that's when this Alternative Moveset comes in(this moveset is intended for those of you who can't get Aromatherapy/Heal Bell on a Bold-Natured Blissey because of unluckiness):

Bold Natured Blissey@Leftovers
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Def., 4 Sp.Def., 2 Whatever
Counter
Seismic Toss
Softboiled
Toxic(for Ghost-types only, as this move has some most vital drawbacks that make this move a sucky move, but because Blissey has low Attack and Sp.Atk. stats, and the majority of the only moves that Blissey can use that are useful are moves that have no effect at all on the Ghost-type. In fact, the only move that Blissey can learn that is useful and the most effective in Blissey vs. Ghost situations is Toxic, meaning you have no choice but to teach it this move if you want to do decent damage to Ghost-types, of course, you also have to consider that some Ghosts are part-Poison, and thus immune to Toxic, and those ghosts are part of the Gastly family, which Haunter and Gengar are a part of)/Thunder Wave

This moveset may not be as good as the Aromatherapy/Heal Bell one, but it still pwns. First, use either Toxic(only if the Pokemon's a Ghost-type)/Thunder Wave. If the Pokemon's a Steel-type and/or the Pokemon's a Non-Ghost, then move on to Step 2: look for the Pokemon's oriented attack type and the color on it's HP bar: If it's Special-oriented w/ a HP bar that's green/high yellow, use Seismic Toss. If it's a Physical-oriented Pokemon w/ the same criteria when it comes to the HP Bar's color, as mentioned above, then use Counter. Repeat Step 2 until the foe's at the mid-yellow/high red, then move on to Step 3(Of course, if it dealt enough damage to Blissey[but how much is enough damage? The answer to that question is: at or above 125 HP worth of damage], then provided that Counter KO'ed the foe Pokemon, you may go back to Step 2 for the next Pokemon, or, if the foe Trainer's defeated, then ignore the rest of this post, as you just won): If the HP Bar's color's at the mid-yellow or below and/or the Pokemon's Special-oriented and NOT a Ghost, you don't need to do overdo it w/ Counter in the case a Physical attack's used: just use Seismic Toss to get your opponent's HP to either the low red in terms of HP bar color(and then letting it faint to Poison at the round's end if you chose Toxic)/zero(or the number in which if it's reached, the Pokemon faints)(works best if Blissey's Level 100).

And why does the Blissey in the set above have maxed-out EVs in HP??? Because it needs those EVs to stand a chance against physicals(thanks Whisper in the Wind), plus you rarely need more than 270 Sp. Defense to even make a good Pokemon: A Base Stat of 135 in the Sp.Def. stat is competitive enough(since there's nothing you can do to change it, because base stats are a constant value that can't be changed. Besides, it doesn't need ANY Sp.Def. to be a good Special Wall, thanks again to Whisper in the Wind): all that amounts to no need to max out the Sp.Def. EVs if the Pokemon has a Base Stat of at least 135 in the Sp.Def. Stat AND a Base Stat of 255 in the HP Stat: A maximum of 300 Sp.Def. is enough of a maximum to put to good use, but 255 makes Blissey a little bit uber: By only giving Blissey 4 EVs in Sp.Def. and 2 EVs in whatever Stat you want, so that you only waste 2 EVs rather than doing the normal 255/255 set in which 6 worthwhile EVs are wasted. 4 EVs in Sp.Def. won't make that much of a difference, because it gives some of the remaining 6 worthwhile EVs some worthwhile place to go after the EVs are maxed out in HP and Defense, not because you need to, when really, if Blissey has low Attack, and she doesn't have any Sp.Attacks in her moveset, if she's a little slow(Base Stat of 55 in Speed), and her HP and Defense EVs are maxed out, then 4 of the remaining 6 worthwhile EVs have no place to go but Sp.Def. in the case that every 4 EVs amounts to 1 additional Stat Point, leaving the other 2 remaining worthwhile EVs having to go into any stat, although whatever stat those 2 EVs go in, the Stat Points won't increase due to the fact that the game always rounds down, so that you've got a Blissey that's really(sort-of) the Nurse of Death in my opinion, although you could move those HP EVs into the Sp.Def. stat if you want(although doing so won't make Blissey as effective as not moving those HP EVs anywhere, because it needs those HP EVs to stand up to physical hits, thanks again to Whisper in the Wind)... But it's your choice...

I know that. For those Pokemon, I just use Counter because, what do I mean by "oriented"? The Pokemon's strongest Stat, that's what I mean by "oriented". And would I use Toxic again a Steel/Poison type, or a Pokemon w/ Immunity? No. And I apologize if my attitude is getting me on your nerve. And why did I suggest Toxic/Thunder Wave? Because of the ghost type's immunity to Normal and Fighting-type attacks. Yet, some Ghosts use Physical-type attacks, but still, what if you're in a battle, and every pokemon in your party faints except for your Blissey, and it's forced to face off against a Ghost-type??? Since Blissey doesn't have any attack stats that are decent enough to utilitize the majority of it's movepool(which contains attacks that damage the foe directly, and most of those attacks that are contained in Blissey's movepool are Special Attacks, but too bad since it can't put any of those attacks to good use in the competitive metagame because of its lacking in both Attack types in terms of Base Stats), and the Ghost will not be affected by Counter or Seismic Toss, since they're Fighting-type moves,(which Ghost-types are immune to) you don't have another option in the case of the Blissey vs. Ghost battle in which the Ghost will win otherwise, if you want to damage a Ghost-type, you're forced to teach Toxic to Blissey in order to enable it to even stand a chance against Ghosts, and I'll add that to my post now...

Tyranitar (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 68 Spd / 190 SAtk
Quiet Nature (+SAtk, -Spd)
- Crunch / Ice beam
- Focus Punch
- Substitute
- Thunderbolt

I wonder this has a nature that reduces speed, yet EV needs some speed back. I currently have a level 5 larvitar that is quiet and female that the breed master says has impressive abilities and a flawless HP so wanted to make sure this was adequate for ingame before seeing the substitute move tutor.

So would a flawless HP IV be considered as 31 or anything slightly under?

aipomkong

has to be exactly 31, 31 will give the 404 hp needed, 30 will give 403 hp and as the game always rounds down you won'tget the 101 substitutes needed, you'll get 100 hp subs, which Seismic toss'll break

It looks like I will need to EV train appropriately and raise to level 100 to see if that qualifies or not. I wish there was a way to see the IV values for level 5 as the highest HP I noticed was 21 which could vary as they grow in levels. Hopefully with the breeding master in the battle frontier saying its "HP is flawless, a thing of perfection" truly means that it has an IV of 31, and nothing slightly under.

1stly, I wouldn't necceserily trust the SPP IV calculator (I know I don't), give other IV Calculators a try as well. I can't remember correctly however, but I'm pretty sure "HP is flawless, a thing of perfection" is the 31 IV phrase.

Speed is the least needed stat on Boah, however it needs some speed to outrun Weezing (so it can Sub prior to it usign Will-o-Wisp).

The reason for not lowering a Def:

In my opinion, Boah should be be neither Mild nor Rash. You want it to be somewhat able to take a Surf from like a Suicune that's at 44% or lower, cause if it decides to stay in and Surf you, you will have killed it with the help of sandstorm. From a 300 SpA Tyraniboah, T-bolt does a minimum of 38% damage to a 266 SpD Suicune — hardly anyone gives Suicune initial special defense so it's going to die to T-bolt...unless you're Rash, in which case, after your sub is broken, you stand a good chance of getting OHKOed by Surf depending on how much SpA Suicune has, since you're not at full HP after the sub.
Further, if you're Mild, then crap like Aero's DE can break your sub if it does max damage, and a 300 attack Snorlax will break your sub every single time with return/frustration. Not to mention Metagross has a great chance to OHKO, whereas with Quiet he needs absolute maximum damage.
If this is on cartridge, the nature isn't as big a deal, same for perfecting your EVs in Speed, since IVs (and EVs) vary on the cartridge and in the Battle Tower/Frontier you won't encounter Metagame standards. On the contrary however, Tyraniboah is something that works (well, works better than DDTar) against the standard Metagame so why you're using it on cartridge I don't know ><

i don't think boah is that great ingame. i would use

Tyranitar@Leftovers
Adamant (+atk, -sp atk)
EV's: 252 atk/198 spd (stat wise)/rest in hp
-Dragon Dance
-Earthquake
-Rock Slide
-Taunt/Crunch/Substitute

198 speed to outspeed base 130's after 2 dd's, but since opponents don't EV train ingame, you might as well just give it 4 hp/252 atk/252 spd.

edit: but it has perfect hp. so you might as well use boah :)

I agree partially. Boah isn't totally useless in game as it can take some hits i guess... However, DD tar will be more useful in the battle tower then Boah. Sweepers > Skarmbliss counters anyday in the BT.

Dude, having to set up with sub then attack with Focus Punch isn't a good idea in the BT. The IE doesn't switch so no free sub. Not to mention, having a max attack + quake + (stab) slide is better then having around 190 sp attack, bolt + crunch. It can work. Just not as well as DD tar IMO.

Not to mention, DDtar should have flamethrower or t bolt or something > taunt for skarm but no whirlwind/roar =O *in battle tower obviously*

No Cursepert has proven to be Swampert's most efficient and damaging set. Mirror Coat loses its suprise after one use and alot of grass attacks can OHKO Swampert if he's not at full health.

Fluorescent Adolescent
29th July 2005, 8:12 PM
That's what switching outs for though. If you constantly use curse and then they send out a grass type, you've wasted moves then and also because I already have a curser (snorlax) so do you think I should have the mirror coating swampert. I think I'd do better with it but what do you think?

BTW what Ev's should I put into my newly hatched mudkip if I want it to be a mirror coater?

Yeah that's why the next time you switch in Swampert and you suspect a grass type you predict with Ice Beam. Try Mirror Coat Swampert all you want but it's just really not as useful as the Curse version.

Fluorescent Adolescent
29th July 2005, 8:52 PM
But the ice beam won't kill the grass pokemon in one. And then you will be forced to switch because of Swamperts measly speed. Also curse doesn't increase SP. Attack for his ice beam does it.

most things HP grass swampert anyway (Zapdos) so Mirror Coat (counter reflects HP) is useless, plus with cursepert, you should never really curse first turn anyway, ice beam in case zapdos/skarm/sceptile comes in, mirror coat only works against Surf Milotci imo, but that'll use hypnosis on you first anyways

Okay, first of all, get your facts straight. Hyper Beam only has 150 power, not 200. It causes you to recharge after use, so on average that's only 75 power per turn. Another normal move, Return, has 102 base power, and has no harmful side effects, so it has an average of 102 power each turn. Last time I checked, 102>75. Not only that, but after you KO a foe with HB, they have a free turn to set up or attack you for massive damage. Either way you're not surviving another turn. And another thing to note on, Return usually KOs the same stuff that HB does, so your argument is completely invalid.

Second of all, you suck.

And thirdly, leave the RMT forums indefinently. Put simply, http://70.85.169.212/3465/94/emo/stop_psting.gif

Yes. HB is good on CBPidgeot, but only because it has such a limited movepool that it needs to resort to using such a move. It's also only used as a weak Explosion - a 'last ditch' effort. Otherwise, it sucks.

HP80 gets it 201 HP, the least it can have to still survive three STosses, its biggest weakness. Toxic and maybe Sandstorm for stalling your opponents to death, Attract sometimes, Protect for more stalling time, and Chestorest for more stalling time.

Hmm I was thinking of a swampert with HP bug over curse. Its great for celebi switch ins and grass switchins, although Ice Beam is good for that too. Really I just use HP bug for celebi :/ As I don't have a counter. Usually takes off just over 50% of celebis health which is pretty cool.

aipomkong

needs hefty amonuts of attack evs, you lose curse which hurts it, and is pretty situational imo when you can just use salalmence

Yeah I suppose so :/ Just a thought though.

Call me crazy but I've been using FP on blaziken and its working great. When aero switches in bam its a OHKO and it always does monster damage to milotics etc. Not suggesting this as part of a moveset but it works well if you ever get to try it.

orangekows

it isn't always but shuckle has 20 base hp, giving it max hp will raise it's defenses by like 25% (188 hp compared to 244)

also shuckle has 230 base defenses, it raises its stats by like 15% (496 compared to 559/614 with a +nature)

if it's something like blissey, using max defense and no hp will raise its defense to physical attacks ALOT more then using max hp and no defense. it's just because blissey's base hp is so high and blissey's base defense is so low

also on shuckle i would use defense curl/rollout/rest/attract with careful nature and 252 hp/almost max sdef/rest in attack (lol)

Fluorescent Adolescent

you have to switch on a weak attack from a poke that will switch after charizard shows up (ie: Skarms drill peck, you switch on it, it leaves, you Belly drum, salac activates and proceed to sweep)

Hey there! :)

It's been a while since I last battled in the Metagame, but with my new computer, and high speed wireless, I decided to take advantage and get back into it.

To contribute, here's a little moveset I came up with for when the On-line systems finally update with the new Colosseum XD moves. :)

Moltres@Leftovers/Lum Berry/Charcoal
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 6 HP/252 Spd/252 SAtk
Nature: Modest (+SAtk, -Atk)
-Safeguard
-Sunny Day
-Fire Blast/Flamethrower
-Morning Sun

Starter Moltres verison XD. Thanks to XD, the purified Moltres gets Morning Sun. With Sunny Day, you've got Full Recovery. Don't go dissing the SD + FB combo. Moltres high SAtk can knock down more than 50% of health on most resistance pokes when Sunny Day is added on. Safeguard + Lum Berry is an old strategy that gaurntees (Save for those that you SHOULD switch against.) right at the start protection from annoying moves like Thunder Wave. The Charcoal actually does more than you think for this high SAtk pokemon, and is actually one of the few that wouldn't be such a bad idea to use, as a little bit of extra fire power could make all the difference.

Now, for those that don't want it as a starter, just put Reflect/Hidden Power [Electric/Ice/Grass] in place of Safeguard and go with Leftovers. You'd be surprised how powerful this moveset can actually be. :)

Remember, don't knock it until you try it. ^_^
