View Full Version : Free Hosts

Hey everyone, hope you've all been enjoying the Webmasters section :)

Anyway, recently - there's been a selection of multiple topics on users requesting free hosts. So as to avoid a major flood of these topics - I've created this sticky in order for anyone to request, post or talk about free hosts. :) Please remember though - that FORUM hosts and such are NOT allowed.

Anyone creating an individual topic in where to find free hosts will have there topic closed and will be pointed here - just so you know ok?

I'll start of by recommending a great free host - http://www.geocities.com - It's got a great pagebuilder for new sites and works fluently with anyone. Be warned though - once your site grows, geocities may become less helpful towards your websites needs. Got an advanced free host you'd like to share with other users? Wanna find a better host than Geocities? Post your requests and replies here. But please remember, no forums.

Here are a few that I know of:

http://www.topcities.com - you get 600 megabytes of bandwidth per month and there's 150 megabytes of disk space on offer

http://www.angelfire.com

http://www.tripod.com - Both these hosts are pretty similar in terms of how things work. Only snag is that banner ads now appear at the top AND the bottom of pages so you must be prepared to put up with that. I used to host on Tripod, but I moved after they introduced the bottom-of-page ads because it was screwing with my layout.*

http://www.bravenet.com - I currently use their Bravehost hosting service and they have another hosting service called Bravepages.

*This statement is not intended to bash Tripod

Hm...freewebs is good, but for beginner websites. Plus point here is that you need not add banner ads or popup ads. Just a link that states that your website is hosted by them will do.

http://www.1asphost.com

No ads except for a simple text link to the host, 100 megabytes of space, unlimited bandwidth, ASP support, Microsoft Access database support, SSI support, and loads more. No PHP, but you can do stuff with ASP all the same.

hmm, I have been looking for a free PHP host... but not many sites support that. The ASP host one looks good, but no PHP. now I have to find a free ASP script of what I want, darn.

I found a good-looking site. It got some great reviews on FreeWebSpace.net, and I have registered with them. My account is yet to be confirmed, but the link is here; www.illusionfxnet.com

They have 3 different free plans to choose from, ad free, can host a sub-domain, and other features visible on that main page. They look good, but I havn't got their reply yet. Here's hoping!

Fateback (http://www.fateback.com).

Works wonders for me, with good uploading service, space, and stuff like that. I forget about the ads, but I don't think there are any. It's just a little unreliable in the availability department. Damn 404 errors. -_-;;

www.freewebs.com is the best I know of, but I am a little new at websites and such. This is a little off topic, but could someone tell me what PHP and ASP are, and also what a good amount of megabytes for a website is? I will be able to suggest better hosting sites if I know these things.

There is also http://www.brinkster.com
I used that a very long time, but I'm moving. They put adds on every page, but if you register a .tk domain, there's not adds at all anymore.

good amount of megabytes for a website is
Brinkster has 30MB, for me that's enough. But like www.1asphost.com has 150MB and it's totally FREE! I highly suggest www.1asphost.com, it's on of the best there is. And it's even good for hosting, compared to brinkster is not good for hosting images

I need a host with PHP + mySQL.

Also the best host out there is:
www.hostultra.com

Hostultra gives you unlimited Bandwith + Space. NO ads cept one. Plenty of sub domains such as www.yourname.vzz.net + more. Also you get PHP but thats about it its the best I know of.

The host I used to use was www.web1000.com, its a good free host that offers no ads, unlimited bandwidth and 50mb free space. Also I don't think there is a pagebuilder so you have to use ftp (which i would use anyway).

I want to know which would be a good one to start from if it was the size of this website (Ok, not that big at first),I'm thinking about either doing a Pokemon website or a Pokemon/Megaman website, for free.
Also, do sites created with Yahoo SiteBuilder work on other webhosters besides Geocities?

I just came across something that may change your mind about using the hosts with popup ads.

http://www.cexx.org/diepop.htm

A deviant and nifty little HTML code that you insert into every page of your site will kill the nasty popups automatically. I haven't tried it (I haven't had the need for it XD), but it seems to work. Give it a whirl, this seems to be handy.

Are there any sites that host Frontpage-made sites for free? I've made a site on Frontpage, but can't find anywhere to host it for free, if there is anywhere. (Not Angelfire, it won't work for me.)

I've built my site, like I said. The host is useless as it wants me to log in via FTP or whatever that means. As usual, Microsoft Help didn't help. Are there any methods an idiot can use to get a Frontpage site on the web? I know no HTML, FTP or whatever, I just want my site on the internet for free.

As you may be able to tell, I'm kind of angry, as I've been trying to upload this site for over a week.

EDIT- I dunno if it has PHP.

Crystal_Milotic
20th July 2004, 3:21 AM
The only thing I have used so far is Bravenet.com. (http://www.bravenet.com)

You get 500 MB of bandwidth and 20 MB of disk space. Your subdomain has to be like http://www.(your name).bravehost.com. But that's the ONLY thing I don't like. Also, if you stink at stuff like HTML, you can use their Website Wizard, which has layouts and stuff to choose from, so basicly all you have to do is make the text, choose the layout and colors, and the rest is taken care of!

Bravenet alse has free services. I enjoy the free forums and guest books, but there's also a calender, a daily cartoon, a live chat and so much more!

I may try other stuff, but Bravenet works for me right now. It may have a lot of ads, but I can survive with that(for now...).

What's your site url?

Also in dhost you must have FileZilla. You also have to use wordpad to update a page.

azngirlLH
20th July 2004, 7:09 AM
I currently use angelfire(friggin' ads and popups...) with freeweb(50 files only?!). I think that's only the good choice for me, but I found a better hosting.

Angeltowns.com has a really fast server. It loads pretty quickly once you get there. Sign up is fast and easy, and when you log in, everything is just basic and plain. Pretty easy to navigate.

- It is free <-- no duh.

- 50 MB storage <-- perfect. better than 20, no need for 100.

- Unlimited bandwidth/Page hits <-- geocities is an ant compared to this.

- No junk e-mail

- If you don't know HTML, CSS, Java, etc... all of those, then no need to worry

- Free guestbooks/weboards <-- don't really care about web boards and I can make my own guestbook ;)

Okay. I need help. Which is the best for me?

I'm trying to make a website called Pokémon Platinum. I'll need two things. A forum and a website. Which website offers free webhosting, unlimited bandwidth, loads of memory and other cool features? Geocities is not my type. It requires me to log on to Yahoo! I don't like Yahoo!. The site is about both Pokémon and Digimon. And also, my RPG.

Also, I'll need a forum. vBulletin is my goal. These are the forums that never helped.

Proboards
ezboard
Invisionfree
Excoboard
Aimoo
conforums

There are others {I tried alot of them, so I won't remember many.} Private Messages is the only way. I am not coming back to this post. Help me out here. Thank you kindly! And in advance as well.

hostultra has unlimited space and unlimited bandwith... you can put anything you want... proboards didnt help? ah oh well. the only prob with hostultra is that you cant direct link images from the website. i tried it once on another forum and all that appeared was a link to the pic and when i clicked it, a bunch of porn pics came up... i was only 10... *.*" <that was me when it happened... sweatdrop and blank eyes...

Like Amidamaru said above,Dhost is a pretty reliable host.
It has 350 GB(nice one) of bandwithe,100 MB of Disc space,PHP,MYSQL,
but you'll have to use a FTP program, theres no page builder,no updating page,or anything.
And,if you viloate the ToS,your account will be deleted with no warning.

But then again:
http://my.shyper.com
features Cpanel,100 MB of disc space(again)
1 mySQL database,PHP,
abd I think 10-30 GB of Bandwithe.

EDIT:1 asphost is way too complicated.I need something easier but not too kidish.I would try funipic but it doesn't accept my country.I may try geocities.

I dont use free hosts. My friend who currently has a server let me use one of his web thingys. (The one to load pages on, i use SmartFTP to load them). Before that I used 1asphost, its pretty good as it allows 100mb. But the bandwich limit is a problem and the advertising may get a bit irritating.

I got a free domain name from Dot Tk. Its good and it makes my web seem a bit professional unlike the ones from freewebs.

No offense to all those unlucky enough to have a freewebs site.

That sucks. Bluevoda is good for fun, but not for putting it online! You have to pay to put it online, I'm looking for.
One that you don't need an FTP uploader.
You don't need to know html.
One LIKE Freewebs, but almost unlimeted.
I am thinking of ASPHost, just hoping you don't have to upload. ¬_¬

Same here. I'm trying to find a new host for my two websites, but so far, no luck.

I registered on FunPic, but I never got my activation e-mail >_<

My requirements for a new host:

1) COMPLETELY FREE. No loopholes, completely free. I won't even look at it if it's not free.

2) No forum posts required.

3) No knowledge of HTML required.

4) Enough file space.

5) Enough space in general.

6) Easy to upload files.

You know, HTML is actually pretty easy. It won't take long to learn it.
Anyway, good websites for hosting are www.1asphost.com, www.100webspace.com and www.hostultra.com.

Sorry I don't agree with that. When I was going through various hosts it wasn't very friendly nor was it easy to work. Not to mention the ads. >>

Well, Bravenet is ok, but the good part about it is it doesn't have pop-ups like [I think] HostUltra. Ad Banners aren't that annoying but pop-ups are.

www.*******.com - it also resizes images for you (all it is is another Photobucket company but it doesn't go down at all like Photobucket.com does)

:OFFTOPIC:
ShUsTeR_RaY - you need to resize your banner. It's way too big >_>
