Which gym to go to first?

I have probbally played through Pokemon Fire Red, Leaf Green, Red and Blue a million times, and I just realized something. After I beat celedon gym, I usually head for the sixth gym, Sabrina's, instead of the fifth one, Koga's, so I was wondering, how many of you do this to.

I think it's quite intresting that you can do this. It's kinda wierd that Gamefreak didn't make it so you have to go to Koga's gym first, and then Sabrina's.

i beat Koga as soon as i can, so i can get surf and head down to Cinnibar, then on to the islands. i save Sliph co and Sabrina till vey last

Meh, usually go to Koga first.

That reminds me of how in G/S/C you can do gyms 5, 6 and 7 in any order you like. Also strikes me funny that the 6th gym is actually higher in level than the 7th.

I usually go to Koga's gym first as he's less of a challenge. Then I head for saffron wipe out silph and beat sabby.

Well, the thing is that it's also possible to take down Sabrina before Surge. My traditional path has been Sabrina before Surge and Koga before Sabrina.

Oh! I always went to Sabrina first and then Koga, but ever since I read on a walkthrough it was the other way around; I save Silph Co. or whatever, ride down to Fuschia and fight Koga first.

I always go to Koga, then the Fighting Dojo then to Sabrina...usually to train whatever psychic/ghost I'm going to use against Sabrina.

I usually go to Koga's first because I want surf, and I want it fast. I am impatient that way. So I go to Koga's, despite the fact that I find him a huge pain in the posterior to beat.

Sometimes I go to Koga first, sometimes I go to Sabrina first, but I beat Koga more to get access to Surfing.

It depends on my team, If Sabrina has a bigger advantage over my team I'll train up a little in Koga's gym, and vice-versa if Koga has a bigger advantage over me.

Too bad that was only really possible in this very game...

In GSC, the only GYMs you had a choice to finish without following the usual order were Olivine, Cianwood and Mahogany. In RSE, it's even more limited. If I recall correctly, only Winona can be beaten later on.

RBY and FR/LG gave you the most liberty. There were only 2 MAJOR HMs, and it made it so only Brock (As in every goddamned game, some annoying nobody stops you so you HAVE TO battle the first GYM Leader...), Misty and Koga have to be beaten, and of course, beat everyone to find Giovanni, as in all the other games. RB had a glitch that allowed you to bypass the annoying guy that takes you to Brock's GYM, which meant you just had to beat Misty and Koga. :D

It'd be great to emphasize this factor a wee bit more... would allow for new things and different ways to beat the game...

I always do Koga first. He is just sooo more convenient for surf and everything.

I always thought that Sabrina was the fifth gym and Koga the sixth. o.O (In my old R/B/Y mapbook, Sabrina was listed as the fifth. Makes more sense for her to be the sixth, though.)

Anyway, I usually battle Koga first because I want Surf more than I want to command level-70s that I don't even have yet.

Well, in my LG that I'm currently replaying...I totally forgot to go to Sabrina's Gym all together. XD I ended up beating Blaine, and was going to go to Viridian, and I as like...Wtf, why don't the door open...then I realized...Crap..I forgot to battle Sabrina. XD I was like...Lv. 40 and she was like Lv. 35 or something and it was total Ownage after that. :P

I battle Koga first, because I feel like it. I always do it in the right order for some reason, except once in Yellow, where I skipped Surge until after Erika, and then went over to Sabrina just to get thrashed by her Lv:50 Alakazam. The Abra was a bit of a joke really. You can also skip Brawly in RSE, but you can only wait until after Flannery. I usually go to Slateport for training then go back to beat him.

Sabrina is definitely more convenient and in order, however I always found her to be more difficult than Koga. I usually just go whatever way I feel more confident about, however I prefer to go to Koga. He's easier, plus his experience along with Silph Co. and that really long route leading east out of Fuschia always gave me more than enough experience for Sabrina.

I suggest you go to Koga. His team dynamics are weaker, and his Pokémon are at a bit of a lower level than Sabrina's. Plus, you get the Safari Zone, where you can get some good Pokémon (Scyther!!).

For me, Koga has always been harder, and I want challenge, so I go beat him first. Sabrina is always too easy, after Silph.co, the routes and whatnot. And safari zone and surf are a MUST as soon as you are able to get there/it.

Until now I had no idea you could battle Koga before Sabrina. I have no idea why but I always just assumed I had to battle them all in that specific order and Sabrina was 5th. I just restarted Leaf Green so I'm gonna do Koga first to try it and so I can get Surf and a Tangela.

From what I can remember, I go to the Fuscia City gym first and beat Koga. I usually want to get surf right away so i can get to Cinnabar Island and revive my fossils.

I beat Erika, then train with Sabrina's underlings, then go for Koga and his underlings, then beat Sabrina, then cheat going to Cinnabar by going down through Pallet Town =P

Erika-Koga-Sarbina-Blaine-Surge.

But now, since I know how to do it, I go

Surge-Erika-Koga-Sabrina-Blaine
