View Full Version : Should *insert Pokemon* know *insert move*?
Psychic Politoed

Hi, this is Psychic Politoed, and I made this thread so people can ask if certain Pokemon should know certain moves. Feel free to ask if you want to know if a Pokemon should know a certain move?
Here is my question.
Should Umbreon know Toxic?
Answer my question or ask your own, and quoting the question to answer it makes it a lot easier.

Should Umbreon know Toxic?
I don't see why not, it's just as effective/ineffective on it as every other Pokémon. People just like it on Umbreon because of its big Defensive Stats.
My question is kind of the opposite of Poli's(you don't mind if I call you that, do you? =D ), it's not why, it's why not. Why doesn't Gyarados learn Aerial Ace? I have plenty of reasons why it should've, but I'll leave the answering and debating to the NextPoster.

Because the programmers hate Gyrados and want the n00bs to give their in-game Gyrados the 'Thunder-Hydro Pump-Fire Blast-Blizzard' MS. =D
And How the f*ck Dewgong learns Signal Beam? Same goes to ML Cleffa.

It has tiny wings?
The main competitive set for umbreon is
Baton pass
healing Move
Mean look
Taunt
But in-game or even the metagame you could find use of toxic on umbreon.

XD, my thoughts exactly. Aerial Ace isn't a wing attack, it's just a speedy, lethal strike. And really, if ARMALDO can learn it, why not Gyarados?(nothing against Armaldo, but it's slow, and the point of the attack is Speed ._.).
I'm serious, Tropius Master, I want a definitive reason why Gyarados can't learn Aerial Ace. Not sarcasm. It works fine without it, but that Hidden Power could be put to better uses rather than functioning as the Flying Move it never got...

Why doesn't Gyarados learn Aerial Ace?
Why doesn't Politoed learn Calm Mind?
Gamefreak will make mistakes like that. Aerial Ace is a speedy attack and Flying type Pokemon as well as wind oriented Pokemon, like Shiftry, can learn it. Speedy Pokemon can learn it too.

I don't know. It is sleet, it is sharpy, it is fast... I REALLY dunno. >__>;;
And why Exeggutor doesn't have CM is another mystery to me. I mean, SLOWBRO can learn it. >__>

Well, Slowbro's mind is quite calm(understatement much). And Exeggutor doesn't really need the boost, it would ruin its already excellent StandardSet. Meh, could work in 00ber Battles where you don't need Sunny Day.

well, for psychic, I think that octopusses are the most evolved animal in the true life, and they are in the 1st (or 2nd) in the list of the smartest animals (according with animal planet), but I really don´t know about the others.
I´ll post more things, because I know that are more.

This thread is becoming something different than what i imagine. ;_; Anyway, I thought it would be cool if Umbreon knew Toxic because his Leaf Green Pokedex entry says, "When agitated, this Pokemon protects itself by spraying poisonous sweat from its pores."
Here's another question.
Should Swampert know Muddy Water?
I see some people who don't teach Swampert the move. Even though it is not the most accurate move, it has a base power of 95 and has a 30% chance of lowered accuracy.

Some moves are there for game-ralated reasons. For instance, Charmander learning Metal Claw is because all starters should have an advantage against Brock. Can anyone else think of an example of this?

Charizard and Crunch
Charizard and Thunderpunch
Flygon and Silver Wind.
NYPC in GSC.
Not that great, anyways.
If any starter needs Crunch, It's Venusaur. Look at the size of its mouth!!!
Plus it need more special moves.
Special Attack Moves that Starters can get that are not of their type:
Venusaur gets nothing in GSCRSE ;_;
Charizard gets Bite, Beat Up, Crunch(NYPC), Dragon Rage, Outrage, and Dragonbreath in GSC, and has Bite, Beat Up, Outrage, Dragon Rage, and Dragon Claw in RSE
Blastoise has Bite, Zap Cannon(NYPC), Ice Beam, Icy Wind, Ice Punch, and Blizzard in GSC, and has Bite, Icy Wind, Ice Punch, Ice Beam, and Blizzard in RSE
Meganium gets Nothing in GSCRSE ;_;
Typlosion gets Thunderpunch
Feraligatr has Bite, Crunch, Icy Wind, Ice Beam, Ice Punch, Dragonbreath, and Blizzard in GSC and gets Bite, Crunch, Icy Wind, Ice Punch, Ice Beam, Blizzard, and Dragon Claw in RSE
Sceptile has Pursuit, Crunch, Dragonbreath, Dragon CLaw, and Thunderpunch
Blaziken gets Thunderpunch
Swampert gets Icy Wind, Ice Ball, Ice Punch, Ice Beam, and Blizzard
Venusaur, Meganium, Typhlosion, and Blaziken are shafted.
I know some starters don't need special attacks, but NOJ could at least expand on their special movepools (And update the Johto Starter's Level-Up moves, D*****)

Okay, this thread really became something I didn't hope of it being, so I will have to stretch the rules.

Should Umbreon learn Toxic?
He can learn Toxic, so should he learn it?
Why doesn't Politoed learn Calm Mind?

He has stubby feet with no claws, so how can he?

Why doesn't Magikarp learn a friggin' water attack?
Because Game Freak's intention on programming Magikarp was to be pathetic. They did not want to make him anymore powerful. I think they should make a powerful Magikarp that doesn't evolve for the heck of it, but that's just me.
And...

Earthquake on Rapidash would be nice, considering, I don't know, that its hooves, being harder than diamonds, are certainly just as strong as Glalie's oh-so-powerful feet? Not that it would help Rapidash much, considering that it got pretty ripped in the move department anyway, and being a specialist, it really can't do much out of its own type; but for the sake of argument.
Another vote for Gyarados learning Aerial Ace... good physical attack and nothing it can STAB physically outside of a Hidden Power. Even Modest, fully EV trained, and with great IVs, Gyarados's Sp.ATK can't really compare with its physical attack. I know I have differing perspectives as far as competitive use goes, but I like STAB backed up by solid offense, and given that Gyarados's greatest strength is in its physical attack, I lament its lack of STAB.
Trapinch should learn Earthquake naturally. Most of the other ground types do. Instead, it gets Dig. Oh, frabjous day.
Can't understand why Gardevoir gets Thunderbolt, but not Ice Beam. (If not Ice Beam because that move is too cold for the emotional "embrace Pokemon," why not Flamethrower?)

Yeah, but this is from XD (from the Pokespot). So the two water attacks that are of any worth are Bubblebeam and Water Pulse.
