This is serious stuff, so bring on the raters. XD I'd love insightful strategies and suggestions to create a good Double Battle team.

I've thought up several strategies, and I'd like to see if those will work.

Gengar@Focus Band
Brick Break
Shadow Ball
Protect
Explosion

Metagross@Focus Band
Agility
Meteor Mash
Protect
Explosion

Turn one, Metagross uses Agility. If there's a Pokemon resistant to Explosion, Gengar takes care of them with S-Ball or BB. If not, Gengar Protects.

Turn two, Metagross goes first thanks to Agility and Explodes, which should take out the two defending Pokemon. The two fresh Pokemon are met with Gengar's Explosion.

Also, I'm considering using Medicham to Skill Swap Pure Power to a Thick Club Marowak. <<

Also, would a Salamence and Gyarados, both with standard movesets, work? Both are immune to Earthquake and can effectively use Earthquake, and both their Intimidates could make the two opposing Pokemon useless.

Or, alternately, I could use Gengar with Clefable:

Gengar
Timid @Leftovers
-Perish Song
-Mean Look
-Sub
-Ice Punch

Clefable
Bold/Calm @Leftovers
-Cosmic Power
-Softboiled
-Follow Me
-Protect

Trap them, then use Perish Song. :P

Feel free to poke holes in those strategies and suggest better ones. o.o;;

The second set is useless against soundproof, you'll have to icepunch them to death

Wow, I'm such a n00b at this. XD Okay, scratch Focus band. <<

Does the Gyarados and Salamence one have any major weaknesses, which could render it useless?

Gyrados one? Yeah, boltbeam (I'm a n00b too!)

So it's not worth using? How common would Boltbeam be in Double Battle?

I'd also considered Skill Swapping a Levitate to Raikou or Jolteon. The trouble is, I'm trying to find three decent strategies for a Double Battle team (one per pair) and have nothing to test it on until the next tournament, so I'm mostly relying on other people's feedback.

aerodactyl @ leftovers

rock slide/eartquake/double edge/hp flying

jumpluff @ leftovers

sleep powder/helping hand/protect/stun spore

basically sleep then helping hand rock slide/earthquake everything

I don't know about double battles, but in single battles boltbeam is everywhere T_T

Salamence and Gyarados aren't as common as a team especially as starters since most people won't start with two physical attackers for a fear of double Intimidate. You don't necessarily have to have a team full of pairs that work good together because you might find that when one pokemon is knocked out, the other becomes somewhat useless. If you want specific pairs that do good together or 2vs2 strats in general, go to smogon.

In the first one Gengars attack is too low to kill
any explosion resists and sacrificing Meta so quickly
is very pointless that *****h can sweep with Agility + swagger.

The second one takes too long to work you wouldn't get time
to Trap them because you'd be killed after the free setup in
the first turn and their defences are too shitty otherwise..

Don't laugh. I tried that once and god damn was I surprised by the results. Of course you'd need Safeguard or a Lum Berry for it to work effectively so that's a given.

Also, when pairing Gengar with Metagross, Skill Swap should be considered with high priority.

yeah lets give gengar a ground weak when earthquake is so common and gengar is so valuable in 2v2

if you can use it right it always takes out 2 or more pokemon especially with the explosion plus. With Gengar assistance you can last even more, I'm not in the swapping levitate metagross because with a Swaggered Meteormash OHKOs all of them and you got Gengar Icepunch + Thunderbolt for Gyrados and Marowak..

Wobby is definitely not Uber in the Double Battle Metagame. In my opinion it hinders it's partner. You just attack the other pokémon and Wobby just sits there hardly doing anything useful. You get to deal with one pokémon's attacks. Encore and Safeguard shouldn't worry you too much in Double Battles at least. Disagree if you must, but keep in mind it at least isn't as good as it is in 1v1.

Back to rating your team... Most likely you're going to face an Explodefest in your face when you first send out your first two pokémon I personally like opening with Heracross and Metagross having Meta explode and Hera using Endure to activate the Endure/Salac/Rev combo unless you're up against a fast attacker or Ttar. Ttar I don't see very much in Double Battles, although the change in weather is nice it has too many weaknesses to be of too much use otherwise. If you have Metagross and Gengar out first Earthquake is a must for Metagross to have also try giving it Choice Band/Leftovers/maybe a Lum berry.

You have to deal with two potential attackers so I do not advise using stat boosting moves, unless you are really clever about them. Gengar is best at Special Attacks, so I'd give it T-Bolt and Ice Punch over BB and Shadow Ball (Shedinja is crap in Double Battles). I would not recommend using Gyarados without something that has the Lightningrod ability.

Protect/Substitute/Endure, something that prevents you from dying from an Explosion is a must in Double Battles. Just be weary to put it because it's sometimes better to be attacking straightforwardly than to get pummeled by Ttar or fast attackers. There aren't that many good trapping schemes that work in the OU 2v2 metagame because everything moves too quickly. That's my two cents for now.

Claydol/Skill Swap + Slaking. =/

It would be cool if you could get Pure Power on Slaking or Marowak, but it's really more of a pipe dream. :P

I need to do more Double Battles. O_o I'm getting rusty.

Just go ahead and use Gyarados and Salamence together.
