Oh yes, another action advice thread by Serpent Syra.

Oh yes, another legendary advice thread by Serpent Syra.

This one is different from the other, as I am strictly concerned with the legendaries. Throughout my search in reading different fanfictions, I have noticed how some experienced authors use some legendaries more than othere. For example, I tend to see more of the Legendary Birds/Beasts more than the Lati Twins or Rayquaza. Or, to top the record, I see more Mewtwo being used in fanfictions that Mew herself, which I think is a bit shocking.

Also, when writing the thirteenth chapter of Sky, I was brainstorming about using Lugia and Rayquaza, going on a murdering spree and killing a group of Wailord and Kingler for the utter excitement and growing vengeance, which can happen. However, I was struck with the fact that not too many people use Lugia and/or Rayquaza in their fanfictions, which really worried me. Also, I was thinking about having the legendaries actually become a bit too angry and protective and begin holding a battle amongst themselves, like Lugia using Aeroblast against Rayquaza as she soars above the ocean, Hyper Beaming through the skies like a Sanctuary Queen of some sort. XD

So, my questions follow; would it be acceptable to have two legendaries fight against each other, without either one getting seriously hurt, like bleeding, stabbing, ect? I want a strict Pokemon battle, only more of a wild one with enhanced attacks, since they are BOTH infected with the Slinx Insanity Virus, driving their minds wild and somehow making their attacks and defenses DOUBLED or possibly even TRIPLED. Also, aren't authors technically able to use any legendary they wish without being seriously hammered?

Well, since they are infected with the Slinx Insanity Virus, wouldn't that make the battle interesting? Sure, they would attack and sometimes, they will get hurt, but according to what you stated, it's the infection that's making them go insane and rampage unknowingly. And since their defenses are doubled or tripled, it would, again, make the battle interesting.

In my perspective, I don't think it would hammer the author. It's unique. If it were just Rayquaza and Lugia fighting for no reason, then you get hammered. XP

Haven't we had enough threads about OU/UU? Use what you want; as long it's done well, no one will care.

However, I don't buy that they're not even going to bleed if they're all rampaging out of control and stuff. While their defenses are increased, their attacks are by the same amount, and so they should be as well-matched as they would be normally. And undoubtedly, Lugia and Rayquaza having a serious fight under normal conditions would involve spilt blood.

My point is...

They're infected by a virus that increase their power, making them three times as powerful? Mindless, raging beasts?

Unless the other Legendaries intervene to stop the two, here are the possible issue:

-They destroy the world
-World reduced to a decaying wasteland
-They kill each others
-They hurt each others so much that they find themselves unable to fight (and both also find themselves looking a bit like raw hamburgers due to injuries)

Rayquaza has control over the skies and has power that put Kyogre and Groudon to shame. Lugia has control over the seas and can create gigantic tsunamis and tidal waves on thought.

Such creatures not hurting themselves seriously and not destroying the entire world doesn't make sense unless something (probably another Legendary) stop them.

But well... I disgress. As long as you pull it off correctly, it can make sense... if you pull it off correctly.

Learning about legendary battles, since I never plan on using them to right near the end of my fics. All I know is this:

Rayquaza I always use for L. Battles. Him and Ho-oh and my fake legendaries. They rule. I don't think is it overused/underused, I think, 'Did it rule or suck?' Therefore Rayquaza is fine territory in my book, and it should be in others if done correctly. Otherwise I'd be hypocritical.

Lugia, meh not my favourite legendary, usually just thrown in as cannon fodder in my fics. Ho-oh, IMO, could wipe the floor with him. But that's just my opinion. BUT he's still powerful. Though Rayquaza would eventually kick his bird dragon behind, blood would be spilt EVEN if they weren't powered up to ridiculous levels. In my one shot Final Choice FLYGON drew Rayquaza blood. It ain't that hard to draw blood, just draw blood in torrents. If R vs L did happen, it would be carnage, chaos and downright mayhem, even without this virus thing you mentioned. I'd hate to think what this virus thing will do to the equation.

Overall, you're underestimating Lugia and Rayquaza. THEY ARE DESCRIBED AS FORCES OF NATURE IN MOST REFERANCES. Don't take nature lightly. It can do enough damage on it's own, IRL or in fics, and with creatures like L and R that bend nature to their will, times the IRL stuff to extremes. 10.0s on the Richtor scale extremes. If they fight, we get wrecked. If they fight under your conditions, we will more than likely be wiped out.

To summarise, just pull it off right, and it will be fine. But never underestimate legendaries unless you give reasons(I made it clear in my fics Lugia is LESS powerfyul than Rayquaza and Ho-oh and why), otherwise even if pulled off to the best opf your ability some readers will feel ripped off.

I really don't think this topic was a good idea Ra...

In any case, use what you want how you want it, and chances are it'll turn out fine. Having people dissmiss/disagree/critisize with your writing at this stage generally just makes that writing confused, trying to cater to other people's opinons will just ruin it at this stage. You can't really critisize something before its even written. There is no rightway to write it; there are hundreds of different opinions on how opowerful legendaries are, and as long as yours makes basic sense, its nobody else's place to critisize it.

Well, technically, it does make sense for them to bleed. I thoroughly read over what I said, so maybe I should edit my post a bit. Lugia and Rayquaza will be having a serious fight, but referring to the movie involving Deoxys, only the city was becoming more and more destroyed, not the entire city. And, the battle takes place above an ocean. So, maybe cyclones and hurricans will happen, but not a raging tsunami. But, thanks for the entry, Negrek; I think I did plan on blood being everywhere, since the chapter is called Waterfalls of Blood. *feels crazy*

Zerodius, it increases their offenses and their defenses by EITHER double the strength OR triple the strength. I think you somehow interpret me incorrectly and you seem to make the legendaries oh-so-almighty and grand. Those are definitely not the possible issues, since you don't even know how the virus works. First, it is above an ocean, they aren't going to be harming humans, they want to harm each other. They are protecting the world by trying to rid each other, hence, the virus is going to help me succeed.

It DOES surely make sense that two legendaries wouldn't destroy a world, because they do not want to. Sure, injuries will be pleasantly described, but you're taking it too far. They aren't mindless, raging beasts that want to destroy everything in their path. The virus works differently for different Pokemon. In Rayquaza and Lugia's case, it is helping them succeed in trying to kill each other, doing as little damage to the world as possible. The last possibility is most likely what I will be aiming for, but thank you for your opinions and such.

EDIT: Elemental Charizam, trust me, I don't cater to anyone except myself. ^^ I just wanted to see how different people felt about this topic, since there are like a bajillion opinions about legendaries and fighting against each other, plus, it's the fact that this'll be the first time I've put legendaries in my fanfictions. But, trust me, they won't destroy the world like some people think they would. Cities, sure, settlements, definitely, the world, no. Not unless it is the entire race of legendaries.
