About the beta cave tile set with the carts...maybe they wanted to make an underground city that you had to go deep to reach, but after uploading realised you couldn't FLY to it?

Very interesting thoughts. I would like to look further for the maps but my hex editor/viewer stopped working yesterday. I need to find a proper replacement: if anyone knows of a good hex viewer, please pm me.

Maybe you should look for...
-a basement to Celadon Dept. Store.
-a more complete MT.Moon.
- Anything that was from Kanto in RBY that has changed drasticlly. What about above the waterfall in Mt.Silver?
- Tohjo falls. I dunno why...

I was able to find a new hex viewer: a freeware program called xvi32. I highly recommend it and it is free.
I will begin looking for more maps again. The actual searching has taken some time to get used to. The maps are based on the tileset values and the tileset values are based on the tile values, which can get a little complicated.
I will update again as soon as I find something interesting.

I recommend Hexecute, Translhextion and to view text Thingy32 for hex editing. Just a tip.
Crucio'd for stacking, image size (40,000 pixel maximum), and text size (size three maximum)
Gulzar, how do you find the bank and map with Goldmap?

I found another beta map just by chance. It’s Beta Ecruteak City.
Beta Ecruteak
As you can see, the tileset is quite a bit different than the regular Ecruteak City tileset. In other words, no there weren’t any whirlpools planned for Ecruteak. Below is my idea of what the correct tileset would look like.
Idealized Beta Ecruteak
I hope this is interesting. Also,…
Waffles: I use a hex viewer to find the maps and tilesets and then use Goldmap to view the maps as image files. How I find the maps with the hex viewer is a little more complicated than that, and I consider it to be too difficult to try and explain on the forum. The technique I use is also somewhat of a trade secret, but I wouldn’t mind explaining it in a lengthy email.
I will continue looking for maps. I hope to find another cave soon.

Now that's what I call a city. I think it was shaped like that to give the feel it was easier for the legendary dogs to run around it. I like the idealized one more than the actual map actually.
I have found one of the most startling beta maps I have ever seen.
Beta town
Here it is “idealized”
I have really no idea as to what it is. Suggestions?

Hmm maybe an inversed New Bark Town?? But very unprobable.
Here are two new maps:
Beta Cherrygrove
Beta TR hideout
It seems that the “Beta town” that I posted previously was not Cherrygrove. Good guesses, though. The TR hideout is quite interesting, and I have no guesses of my own as to where it was intended to go. Suggestions?

Beta Cherrygrove isn't that different but it doesn't have the lake to the guy who gives mystic water. And I think TR Beta map was a lower floor of Lake of Rage Hideout. Did you "idealize" them or did you find them like that?? Anyways good finds as always Gulzar! Thanks!
Here is another beta cave:
Beta Cave 4
Programming wise, it was located near the Burned Tower map, so I think it may have been a beta Burned Tower map. It may have been where the Legendary Dogs were supposed to be. Also, you can see that there is a grassy area in the cave. So far this is the most complete looking cave map I have found that has a grass area included in it.
Phreack: Beta Cherrygrove and Beta TR hideout were not idealized (they use regular tilesets). For future reference, I will always provide an un-idealized copy if there is one.

Good finds. I wonder what was the gym that would've lost out to the Lake, though. Probably Olvine's, because that was only a one-trainer gym (fair enough, so was Blaine and Blue, but that was Kanto)
According to my Goldmap and my gold rom, that map in the first post isn't the elite 4 entrance, it's Kanto's old Viridian forest before they trashed it for the smaller one.
Good eye, Dunsparce. This is Beta Cave 4:
I didn’t include it at because it looked too perfect to be a beta map. I have such a bad memory that I don’t remember seeing it in regular gameplay: therefore I assume it isn’t beta. Correct me if I’m wrong, though. And also, this thread is pretty cool, but that’s because Pokémon Gold’s programming is so detailed. Also, the many ideas from the commentators in this thread help a lot.
Crystal Clair: interesting guess as to the “Strange Map 1.” A word of caution, though: Goldmap is notoriously inaccurate (without the programming changes I have made), and it would not be wise to rely solely on its information. I have checked the programming area around “Strange Map 1” and found that the Beta Goldenrod map is right below it. This leads me to believe that it was a Johto map, and not from Kanto. Also, the cave at the top of the map would make it unlikely to be Viridian Forest. The most likely place it is, and others would agree, is a beta version of Route 28, a.k.a. Mt. Silver. And yes, Route 28 is in Johto, even though it isn’t on the Johto map. Just a reminder, this is all speculation, and by no means do I know where every bit of Pokémon Gold programming goes.
Also, another beta cave, but not a very special one:
Beta Cave 5
It is difficult to tell where it was intended to go. Suggestions?
