Here's my banner. I used quite a bit of everything, and its my first real master-looking banner. (Not to mention downloading at least 10 Photoshop brush sets) >.<
Meh; it was random.

Wow, I never knew it was that easy to make a banner!
You really helped. Thanks.
This is really great, thanks a lot! I've been experimenting with banners for quite a while, and this will certainly come in handy.

Simple Banner Tutorial: (using Photoshop)
Step 1
First, open up new image [390x115] and take your image. Mine was Roxas but you can choose whatever you like.
[Crop it, or do what you normally do to your images]

Step 2
Next, duplicate the image. Since I found the image a bit too dark, I set the layer to 'Screen' to brighten it up, if your picture is too bright, set the layer to Multiply or Color Burn and play around with the Opacity until you're content.

Step 3
Now here's the fun part, BRUSH TIME! Add a new layer and let 'em loose. I added some random brushes, most were swirl brushes around the ends of the banner but you can add whatever you want. [If your picture is dark or night like, use some sparkle brushes to make a starry effect] I found this wonderful swirl brush pack and if you want to use it on your banner, it's here. Set the layer mode to Overlay or leave it at normal and change the opacity to something a bit faded.

Step 4
Now add your text [if any] to the banner and do whatever you normally do with it.
Optional: If you want, take your pencil tool set it to square brush pixel size 1. Then change the Mode to dissolve and change the opacity near 40-50% and apply the brush under your text.
Now, add your border. And ta-da!

Feel free to ask me questions if you don't understand something, and if you decide to use this tutorial, please post your results. I'd love to see them.

Nobody ever seems to find that little GIMP Sticky all the way down on Tech Help. People wont make you a tut if you beg them too, and you can find tons of tuts here if you checked the sticky.

You can try using the Magic Wand tool, and when you've selected the white background you want to delete. Then go to edit and cut it out.

Thank you so much Umi-Chan, if I may call you that. xDD I also am trying the way you did your tut, but I downloaded the brush set, and I wanted to put it in my brush setss, but I couldn't find the file, is this something common?
bye i'm leaving.

Uh, Save the brush set again to your desktop, click Start, then Run, then Browse, then go to that little scroll bar at the top of the Browse window you just click on, scroll till you see Local Disk C: then click on that. Click Program Files, then click Adobe, then click Adobe Photoshop [whatever version you have] then click Presets, after that click Brushes, and put your brush set in the Adobe Photoshop Only folder. Hope that wasn't too hard. ^^;
