What manga series are you reading as of now?

Wanted! -- A "tanpenshu" (short story collection) by Oda Eiichiro, the same manga-ka behind One Piece. Really fun shorts, and about the only other shounen manga-ka that I've seen do short stories relatively well aside from the one who created Gintama (Soichiro, or somethin' like that). The second story in the collection is my favorite of the lot (placed oddly after his "almost-won" Tezuka Award Wanted!) as Oda's creative imagination is most recognizable in this short compared to the others. The collection finishes off with a pilot of One Piece, which English readers may recognize as the one with Luffy's proto-grandfather that was shown at the back of one of Viz's trades. It actually had my favorite moment in the collection, right at the climax where a two-page spread perfectly captures the anticipation built in the reader from the page prior.

I'd definitely like to see this collection released in English. Come on, Viz, One Piece is selling decently enough -- a man like Oda deserves recognition!

Next up is Mariko Parade after I read what its a continuation of, Yukiko's Spinach. The latter seems more like Frederic Boilet just indulging his love of Japanese woman, and even though reviews have stated it as "touching; truly creates a brilliant perspective and love for the title character," or some pretentious crap like that, some of the pages that I flipped through came across as no better than voyeuristic pornography (which is horribly redundant, but it gets the point across). Mariko Parade is a collaboration of the aforementioned French arist and auteur Kan Takahama, whose Monokuro Kinderbook was released last year in English by the same publisher (an excellent read). She also has another collection, Awabi, slated for this year (though knowing Ponent Mon and Fanfare's literally one-man-job, it'll see the light of day sometime in early 2008).

I believe this is because Obata is now going to be doing a new manga for the new monthly mag called Jump Square.

From what I've read it seems that the title just wasn't going over that well with Weekly Jump readers, even with all t3h boobage. It got canned because it sucks, apparently.

And it isn't like it's all that hard to juggle a couple titles, assuming we're talking about one being a weekly serial and the other being a monthly; Oh! Great is a fine example of that (mind you his stories are shitty, but his purdy art work certainly doesn't suffer because of the schedule).

Naruto, Bleach and Buso Renkin...

Naruto-Even though i know 95% of it, i still want to read it.

Bleach-Yes, I use to hate this show and book, because of Bleach-Naruto Rivalries between friends and other people... but I read the first volume and it was pretty good.

Buso Renkin-I learned of this Manga from Jump Superstars DS... I got the first volume just yesterday, and it turns out that I will have a lot of fun reading this book.
