    Smile Japanese Language Club

    WELCOME TO THE
    JAPANESE LANGUAGE CLUB

    -DESCRIPTION-

    Pre-Introduction

Hi! Welcome to the Japanese Language Club! Just to let you know, you don't have to know any japanese at all to visit or join! All that's required is you follow the rules and have fun!

    Introduction

With a combination of my great interest in the japanese language and taking notice of the wide use of it here at Serebii's forums, I decided to create a club where members (and visitors) can come in, ask questions, talk, and just have fun!

    What Members Can Do

Well, I actually have several ideas in mind. So, instead of typing out a jumbled paragraph, I'll list out some examples of club activities:
    1. Give help, advice, or even lessons to help other people with japanese.
    2. Have discussions about cerain aspects of the language (for example: what romanji you prefer, your thoughts on kanji representations, pronunciation/phonetics, etc.).
    3. Translation requests (doesn't have to involve Pokemon).
    4. Discussions in japanese (english translation may be required).
    5. Club stuff (banner(s), improvement suggestions, etc... you know, "stuff").
    6. and More!

    What Visitors (non-members) Can Do

Visitors will be allowed to post a reply requesting a member to translate something to or from japanese. If it has already been translated, a member may kindly reply with a URL that links directly to the translation in question. Please do not be shy asking questions. Just as visitors are required to be nice, so are the remembers. Of course, we're nice anyways .

When asking a question as a visitor, please include the following in your post:
I'd really appreciate it if someone could please translate this for me:

[Insert URL/text to be translated here. Please note that japanese characters currently do not work on the forums.]

    [Insert any additional information here.]

    Thank you!
Besides that, visitors may ask about the club itself if they have any questions about what we do and, of course, request to join!

    Rules

    These rules apply to everyone:
    1. As always, follow all forum rules.
    2. No swearing (not even "light" swearing, please). If a japanese translation includes any, just place a simple remark like "[bad stuff]" in place of it.
    3. Be courtious to everyone (both, members and visitors, alike).
    4. Have fun!

If you break a rule (which I hope won't happen), you will receive a warning (depending upon severity). If you accumulate five warnings, you will be banned (probably one week, depending upon severity). If there are any further problems, the owner/co-owner(s) will have to decide what actions to take.

    How to Join

All you have to do is just ask and an owner/co-owner will gladly "officialize" you .

    -REFERENCE SECTION-

Sunji no Hitokoto ("Word of the Moment")
Here is a compilation of all/most of the sunji no hitokoto that members have contributed while posting here at the Japanese Language Club. As more posts are added, this list will be updated occasionally. Thank you, everyone, and I hope you enjoy reading through them! Just click on the link below to view the compilation.

Sunji no Kanji ("Kanji of the Moment")
Sometimes pictures are the best way to learning a language (and many other things, too). They help the concept of words and phrases connect better and, well, are usually a lot more fun! Sunji no Kanji, or Kanji of the Moment, are pictures done by members that include a, or sometimes many, kanji. They're either then explained in english or visually by a picture in the background (or something similar). Thank you, everyone, for your contribution and I hope you enjoy!

Yay! You're in! What's that about being first post? I don't rember typing that in the rules... well you are a co-owner, so, I guess you would know ! Actually, your reputation precedes you. Deputy55 told me about you and I was hoping you would join (and you did)! This club is going to be lots of fun! Welcome, Haruka!

Edit: Woah, I already need to do some catching up. Just a minute and I'll re-edit this for the two people above me (it looks like one of you had a computer problem, so, when you get time, please delete that extra post thing: Thanks!). O.k. I'll be back in a minute...

New Edit: Thanks for fixing that!

That's great! I'm looking forward to new banners! If you have any questions just ask. Oh. You do have a question! I have you as a co-owner nomination. Basically, since everything is just starting, I'll be trying to figure out what to do. I pretty sure this club will be pretty popular (and fun), so I'll need a lot of help keeping up . Without babble: I'm just going to do a "background check" (look at some of your previous work). Is that O.K. ?

Sure you can join! As Trickster said, yup, this is approved (clubs won't show up unless they're approved, now). I hope you enjoy it here!

Welcome, Shadow Ichigo! Yup, it's approved. Yup, you're a member. What do you mean still? Don't you have all the kanji memorized, yet ? Just kidding! I have a lot of stuff planned. I hope you enjoy your stay!

    Smile Welcome, Baashamo!

Of course, you can join, Baashamo! You don't even have to know what country japanese is from to join! Of course, some of us might wonder about such a person . Welcome to the Japanese Language Club! I hope you enjoy your stay!

Hmmm... I thought about it, but I guess I forgot. I'll probably put up something to let people know this is for ANYONE. No previous knowledge required. Actually one of the MANY things will be doing here is to help others learn Japanese

Edit: O.K. I updated the first part with a "Pre-Introduction" that mentions about not having to know any japanese .

    Hi, can I join?
I love the Japanese language so much. I have a special Japanese installation that lets me write on the internet and all over my computer. It also decodes kanji.
I can write over 200 kanji and know probably more. I know loads of vocabulary, know many simple sentence structures that enable me to express everyday sentences in Japanese.

Did those sentences without a translator. They read "I really like the Japanese language. I think it's an awesome language"
In romaji - nihongo ga daisuki! sugoi to omoimase

I hope I enjoy it here. The Japanese language club at the PokeCommunity died long ago and I didn't want to start another.
edit - the writing didn't come out for me. So I uploaded it as an image

I'm kinda new to Japanese. I can read Katakana, Hiragana and Kanji. (Some of it. For others, there has to be those little Hiragana characters beside/above it.)

I understand vaguely how Japanese grammar works, though not completely. My vocabulary is still pretty small.

    So can I join?

I'm part Chinese so it's fairly easy for me to understand Kanji. Reading it is another thing.

Oooo, can I do a phase of the moment?
    "Kame wa kami da."
    Turtle is god!
*Still not very sure about Japanese grammar. Correct any mistakes if you spot them.*
Check here for my Gijinka Project. (Alright, so I'm not good with advertising, is that such a big problem?)
Check here for my comic series, Fettuccine and Friends. (Well, at least I'm trying to advertise.)

    Smile Welcome!!!

WARNING: I like to type... A LOT!

Alright, Flareon, you're now "officialized"! Thanks for joining the Japanese Lanuage Club! Mother = haha, right . Someone asked me how to say mother and they cracked up when I told them. I'm no expert at pronuciation, so, it was sorda a funny conversation, but they understood what I meant.

You sure can join, Angel-FoX-crescent! Is there a nickname you like to go by? Anyways, what games do you like to play most? I like to sometimes set the game language setting to japanese and see if there's any differences.

You're welcome! I'm looking forward to having a great time here. What topic? I'll get to that at the end of this post. Don't worry, you're almost there!

    Crystal Clair:
Congradulations, Cystal Clair, you're a new member to the Japanese Lanuage Club! I have this computer set to type japanese and stuff, too. Too bad the forums isn't currently supporting it . To everyone else: I'll be adding some stuff on how to set up your computer to type japanese, too (if not already). Of course, it's usually best to learn some of the basics of the language before you get started on that.
That's a great example you got there, too! That's probably what we'll have to do here until (hopefully) the database is reformatted or whatever. Plus, there's the romanji. Thanks!
Also, I've never been to the PokeCommunity, but I'll let you know this club is going to be lots of fun! If you start to get bored, just post a message with your opinion or better: PM me. I'm going to try to make sure this club is fun for everyone!

    Now down to club news!

I'll being taking suggestions to what everyone wants to do here, as will the co-owners. If you have any ideas of stuff you'd like to learn or do, just post a reply or you can even PM me. I already have some ideas posted at the front, and one of them is about visitors. I am hoping to build up enough so that visitors will know this here and they can pop in and ask for translation requests. If you don't know what in the world to say, that's O.K. Someone should be able to help them soon after. Rember, this club is open to members from any background! No knowledge required

    On-going Discussion topic:
O.K. First off, if everyone likes the idea, there'll be an ongoing activiity that works along these lines: To help those who are new to language (or help keep the rest of us sharp), those who would like to could have a word at the bottom of their post and each time they post (when they have time) can tell a word in japanese (using romanji) and tell what it means and stuff. You can just look something up in the dictionary (freedict.com is listed above) if you want even! That might sound confusin, but I'll hopefully explain it better soon.

    First Discussion topic:
O.K. This will be our first active topic. You don't have to respond to all of the questions, though! If you don't know what to say, try and look it up. If that doesn't suit you, try asking questions! Remember, I'm taking requests on what you'd like to do here, too. I hope you like it!

What does "sumimasen" mean? When do you use it? Have you ever seen it in use?

    Good Luck!

    Word of the Moment
    Ookii: Means "big" or "great".

I might as well join up. I'm teaching myself the language, slowly, but I'm getting there I suppose. I have a few good links to share, if anyone is interested:

There isn't a huge stockpile of vocab, but I found the grammar lessons useful.

A really helpful dictionary, when it works. The site tends to screw up a lot, but it's a good source for vocabulary when it does work.

An alternate dictionary I use if the former is giving me error messages. xD

    Smile Welcome, Spookz!

Welcome,Spookz! I'm teaching myself as well. It might seem like a lot of stuff to learn, but I like to think of this way: the more stuff there is to learn, the more great stuff you get to find out and have fun with! Also, yes, I am VERY interested in any good sites out there! I looked them over a little and they loook like they'll be really useful. I'll be adding them in minute at the same time as I "officialize" you . I hope you enjoy it here! Do you have any comments on "sumimasen" or suggestions for the club?
