    He had known about the changes to the prize shop for quite some time, but the shop wasn't open until just recently. "Glad to see this place finally coming back!" said the teenager named Hyrem as he walked inside and began browsing. He gave the TMs a quick glance, noting the much smaller selection of them from before, but maybe that was for the best. He also took a few moments to look at the more androgynous Pokemon--Ditto, Porygon, Spiritomb, and Rotom--but he wasn't interested in those Pokemon at all. Next was the pen of adorable Eevee, well-stocked as usual due to how popular it was, but unlike when he bought Happy he had no desire to own any more Eevee at the moment. Then he came to the fossils, all of which were situated close by a machine that would bring them to life as soon as they were purchased. It was the fossils that were quite tempting--the Old Ambers on the top shelf were particularly enticing--but they weren't the reason he was here.

    No, it wouldn't be until he walked past the fossils that he would find what he was looking for: he now stood in front of a large, spacious aquarium that housed a school of fish colored a dull brown with their fins and flippers colored blue. A mural in the back wall of the aquarium depicted what these ugly fish could potentially become: a gorgeous, cream-colored sea serpent with red frills and a red and blue tail. One of the staff at the shop approached Hyrem and said, "Hello there! You seem to be looking at our Feebas for quite a while, sir, you interested in buying one?"

    "Yes! I've been wanting one for a while!" Hyrem happily replied. After seeing a Feebas for the first time at Rainbow Reef in Whale Island, then seeing Pike Queen Lucy's Milotic just before finishing his Arcane Realm adventure, he was all for the idea of the mascot of Fizzy Bubbles being available to purchase in the Coins for Prizes shop, especially since he had more than 200,000 coins to purchase one.

    "Good eye!" the shop worker said with a twinkle in his eye. "Not much here can beat purchasing our mascot!" He then helped Hyrem pick out the one he really wanted--a female Feebas about two feet long--before putting her into a large fish bowl, allowing Hyrem to speak to her a little closer. "Hi there! I can't wait to evolve you, but for now, you'll be called Juvia! Sound okay?"

    "Feebas," she nodded in her fish bowl.

    "Okay, welcome to the team then, Juvia!"

    ***

    "That'll be 100,000 coins," the clerk at the counter told Hyrem.
    "W-wait, 100,000?" he asked with disbelief. "I thought they were 200,000."
    "Nope," the other clerk replied with a smirk. "We cut our prices in half!"
    "No way!" he said, forming a smile.
    "Hm, looks like you still have plenty of coins..." the clerk continued. "Might I interest you in what's out back?"
    "Out back?" asked Hyrem.
    The clerk smirked again. "Come take a look!"

    Hyrem was then led through a door that took him outside where many large ponds covered the area. In each pond lay a peculiar creature, blue everywhere except for the cream-colored chest, belly, and chin, and sporting a gray shell with rounded spikes. "No...way..." Hyrem's smile grew wider as he took out his Pokedex to scan the large water horses:

    Lapras, the Transport Pokemon. Lapras is a very intelligent Pokemon able to understand any human language and appear attracted to it as they like to offer ferries to people and Pokemon on their backs. This generosity has been sadly taken advantage of in the past as over-poaching has driven them close to extinction. In the wild, they have been known to sing at night to call out to potential mates, and their mating song has been compared to lullabies as it has put other people and Pokemon to sleep.

    Hyrem gave a quiet chuckle; he had never seen so many Lapras in one place! "Wow, I thought it wasn't legal to sell Lapras," he remarked.
    "Well," the clerk began to explain, "the government's plans to bring back a healthy population of Lapras in Fizzy Bubbles worked a little too well, and they ended up overbreeding them. So they asked us to sell off the extras to trainers, as long as the proceeds go towards more conservation efforts."
    "Heh, I may be willing to donate to that cause then!" chuckled Hyrem.
    "Oh good, you're free to pick out the one you want!" the clerk finished.

    The Lapras in front of Hyrem all looked to Hyrem and the clerk, perhaps sensing the trainer's feelings and wondering who might be chosen, though there were a few Lapras whining to the clerk as it was apparently feeding time for them! One Lapras in particular caught Hyrem's attention: a female in the very back of the area was craning her neck down as if gently placing something on the ground before lifting her head up and cooing at her satisfaction. As he approached (some of the Lapras he passed seemed to be drooling over the Feebas he was holding in the fishbowl, so he tried to avoid those hungry mouths as best he could), he began to notice a small pile of shiny objects on the ground next to her pond before she craned her neck back down toward the pile as if she was defending it. "Oh, her," the clerk said casually, obviously knowing a little something about this Water-type. "We're not sure why, but she has been collecting various small objects ever since she was born, whether they were shiny or not."

    "Really?" Hyrem asked. He had the clerk hold his new Feebas so she would be guarded from the nearby fish eaters before he moved closer to the Lapras's head and the pile, and her mouth opened slightly to let out a threatening Growl, daring him to try to steal from her hoard. He soon took one step too far, and the Lapras spit a Water Gun attack in his face, causing him to fall on his butt before he looked up from where he was to find the Lapras towering over him. He had an idea, however, and pulled out a White Flute before playing a legendary tune rumored to have been sung by mermaids. Well, it seemed to do the trick as Lapras's gaze softened and she began Singing along with the tune; soon all of the Lapras joined in and created a beautiful chorus. By the time the song finished, the female in front of him seemed much friendlier to him as she was assured that he wouldn't be doing anything to her pile of treasure. "How many coins would I have to pay for this one?" he asked the clerk.
    "125,000 coins," he answered.
    "I'll do it," he said with conviction. "As long as you're okay with joining my team...Nami," he asked her, to which she trilled happily before leaning in and licking his cheek.

    And thus he ended up purchasing two Pokemon that day--Juvia and Nami--filling up his PC slots even further...but he does not regret his decision even today.

    No need to hold back anymore.

    It was true. There was nobody left to prove himself to; for the first time in years he saw his future with absolute clarity. The biggest roadblock to his success, Ivan, was behind him; Kayl and Vesper, two fearsome opponents he was yet to beat, would inevitably gravitate toward him again as long as he achieved the only goal that actually mattered - becoming Champion. Elated as he was over his immense improvement in Kanjohto, the confrontation with the Career Killer had left him full of doubts and guilt, putting a halt to his momentum... but since then, he'd cleared his mind and opened his eyes to what he had to do - and eventually came to realize that Vesper, much like Kayl, wasn't the problem; he was just a stepping stone he'd tripped on the first time. The bigger picture was the Elite Four: Arnold, Tess, Stacey and Stark.

    For years I built my team to overcome the nearest obstacle; that's how I found my affinity for Fighting-Types while trying to beat Ivan, and later my inclination to raise Fire-Types because of Vesper and his Mega Pokemon. In doing so, I lost sight of what a Trainer should always strive to do: raise the Pokemon he truly likes the most.

    Upon this realization, he allowed several of his fighters to follow their own path - because, while he was indeed particularly skilled with their Type, his heart was elsewhere and their training would be sub-optimal. He made a vow a while back, and it held true now more than ever - he was going to raise dear friends, close as family, the Pokemon he loved the most. It'd be with their help that he'd conquer the Elite Four, and not with tailor-made teams built to counter the Masters' strategies... because only with those he considered his favourite partners would that victory bear any meaning.

    Min, his first partner and dearest friend, walked excitedly by his side. Now that Levin had decided to go after those Pokemon he liked the best, she could direct him to one she felt was simply perfect! While the Saffron-native greeted the clerk, the Cinccino bolted right towards the back door, vanishing into the room beyond. Confused, Levin hastened his pace to meet her, only to find Min bent over a huge aquarium, apparently looking for something very specific in the depths of the glass lake. He could spot the movement of several fish inside, so it seemed Min was only looking for one particular specimen, for whatever reason... and it seemed she found it when, after a squeal, she jumped inside the aquarium herself!

    - Wha...?

    After a few seconds, with a loud splash, Min reemerged holding something high above her head - a flailing Feebas, as ugly and helpless as could be expected. Levin wondered why she'd be so excited over that one Pokemon out of all those in the tank, but knew better than to question her. And while he might have turned away from the prospect before, fearing he might not be able to raise one appropriately for the investment required, the price tag felt a lot less meaningful now that he was sure of his convictions. Min knew he loved the elusive Milotic, and how raising one in a land where this Pokemon serves as the nation's symbol always intrigued him. But he never allowed himself to entertain the thought... until now.

    - If you're sure that's the one, I believe you; you've always had an eye for beauty. Bring it along then, and we'll see to it that it's raised into a magnificent creature!

    He reached for his Bag and pulled out the Coin Case within, withdrawing Casino chips that covered the hefty price. With the transaction concluded, Levin thanked the shopkeeper and left the store, wondering how to raise something so weak into the glorious Pokemon he knew it could genetically become. Behind him, a radiant Min dragged a plastic bag filled with water across the ground, the oblivious Feebas swimming within.

    The doors to the Coins for Prizes shop opened up as Keith Masters walked in. Meowth, as usual, sat on his shoulder, and in his right hand, Keith was clutching a black briefcase-like item. Judging by the way he was moving, the briefcase seemed to be very heavy.

    "How'd ya even score dat many coins anyways?" Meowth asked Keith.

    "Luck. Pure luck," Keith grinned. "Kept on betting on Blue Wynaut, and it's really paying off. But right now, the question is, what to spend it all on?"

    "Well, only one way ta find out," Meowth grinned back. "Let's check out dem TMs!"

    "Well said," Keith replied as he started making his way down one of the aisles. Meowth hopped down off of his shoulder and headed off down another aisle, having a few ideas for boosting his own movepool.

    As Keith walked down one of the aisles, he looked at the shelves on either side of him. In the past, he would see various different items adorning these shelves- items to be held in battles in order to power up certain types of moves, items that would serve to evolve certain Pokémon, and so forth. But now, the place no longer stocked such items, dedicating itself solely to Technical Machines, and a select selection of rare Pokémon. And even then, it only stocked Technical Machines that were produced in the Kalos region now, no longer stocking ones like Bide or Zap Cannon, hence that sale months ago- they were trying to clear out all of their old stock before the grand reopening.

    As Keith walked past a display case full of Dazzling Gleam TMs, he stopped. He could've sworn that to his right there ought to have been a gap between shelves which would lead over into the next aisle, but instead there seemed to be a mirror. The glass had to be extremely clean since he couldn't see it, but his reflection was right there before him, so what else could it be? And yet, something about it seemed off to Keith. He looked curiously at his reflection. He raised his right arm, and the reflection's arm rose as well. He tilted his head, and the reflection's head tilted as well. He adjusted his hat, and the reflection did the same... and then, Keith realized something- his reflection's nose was abnormally large. It had started off normally, but was now starting to resemble a Tamato Berry. "What the hell-" he began, but was cut off as his own reflection (for lack of a better word, as it was becoming increasingly obvious that this was no mirror) began rolling on the floor, paralyzed with laughter. And then, amid the roaring laughter, the Keith clone glowed white and shrank down, revealing an amorphous pink blob, still laughing hysterically. "Diiiiit-it-it-it-itto Ditto Ditto-o-o Ditto Ditto!" it was guffawing. Keith stifled a chuckle and held out his Pokédex.

    "Ditto, the Transform Pokémon," droned the device. "Ditto can assume the shape of anything it sees, but cannot maintain its transformation if made to laugh. Its special attack is Transform."

    "Oh, not again," came a voice. Keith turned to see the Coins for Prizes clerk approaching him. "I am so sorry," he groaned. "That Ditto does this sort of thing all the time."

    At that point, the Ditto glowed again, once more assuming the shape of Keith. "Oh, gimme a break," it replied, sounding exactly like Keith. "It's boring in here! Can you blame me for wanting to have a little fun?"

    "I can if it's losing me business!" retorted the clerk. "No Trainer's gonna want to buy you if you keep pulling this kind of garbage with them!"

    "No Trainer worth going to," Ditto corrected the clerk. "If I have to be all nice and polite to get a Trainer to pick me, then screw that. I want a Trainer I can be myself around."

    The clerk sighed. "You're OK, aren't you?" he asked Keith.

    "Yeah," nodded Keith. "If anything, this was actually kinda amusing, really."

    "Ohhh, don't encourage it," groaned the clerk before turning around and walking back over to the counter.

    "Hey," Ditto said, looking at (and like) Keith. "So you thought that was amusing, what I did?"

    "Yeah," Keith nodded, grinning. "Took me a while to realize what you were doing with the nose- it was starting to look like a Tamato Berry-"

    "Yeah, that's what I was going for," nodded Ditto. "Another couple of seconds and I would've turned it red like one, too."

    "Heh," Keith chuckled at this mental image. In response, Ditto closed its eyes and focused, and the nose grew to the size, shape, and color of a Tamato Berry. At this sight, Keith started laughing. And then, they heard footsteps approaching- Ditto adjusted its Tamato Berry nose so it looked identical to Keith's nose once more, as Meowth started walking down the aisle, several Technical Machines in his arms.

    "Alright," he stated. "Ta start wit, I like da looks o' dis Aerial Ace deal, an- WAH!" Meowth exclaimed as he finally looked up to see what appeared to be two of his Trainer before him. The Technical Machines clattered to the floor (thankfully none of them breaking). "Wat da- Who- Wat- Which o' youse is da real Keith?"

    Keith and Ditto exchanged a very brief glance before the former spoke up. "Oh, Meowth, it's awful!" he exclaimed, albeit hamming it up just a little bit. "I'm the real Keith- this impostor is trying to take my place!"

    "Don't listen to him, Meowth!" Ditto exclaimed dramatically, getting the hint. "I'm the real Keith- this one's the impostor!"

    "No- it's me!"

    "No, me!"

    "Me!"

    "Me!"

    "I- wat- I-" spluttered Meowth, looking back and forth between the identical figures before him. "But- But- AAAAAGH!" he exclaimed, finally snapping and firing off a barrage of Swift stars at the both of them. Keith was not prepared for that, but the attack didn't hurt him that badly. Indeed, as he started to get back up, both he and Ditto couldn't help but laugh. And as before, once Ditto began laughing, the transformation wore off, and it was quickly returned to its usual blob form.

    "...Dat wasn't funny!" Meowth snapped as it sank in just what had happened. "I didn't know wat ta tink dere!"

    "Heh... sorry, Meowth," Keith chuckled. "We didn't exactly plan it, I was just talking to this Ditto here, and then you came along, and it was just too perfect an opportunity to pass up."

    "Yeah," Ditto added, transforming into Keith once again. "Didn't mean no harm, it's just for a laugh, y'know?"

    "Can ya change inta sometin' else?" Meowth asked Ditto. "Dat's kinda freakin' me out."

    Ditto shrugged. "OK," it agreed, before glowing and changing shape once again... this time ending up looking just like Meowth. The real Meowth facepalmed.

    "Dat ain't exactly wat I had in mind," he grumbled.

    "Ehhhh, lighten up," smirked Ditto. It then looked up at Keith and grinned, and slowly, the charm on Ditto's forehead started to change its shape. Not too obviously, either, the transition was very subtle.

    "I'll lighten up when youse- hey, wat da-" Meowth exclaimed suddenly, having finally noticed what was on the Ditto's forehead. "Dat ain't wat my charm looks like!" Sure enough, Keith could see that Ditto had changed the shape of the charm so that it now looked like a bologna sandwich. In response to Meowth's outburst, Ditto started laughing again, forcing it to change back into a pink blob.

    "Oh, come on, you gotta admit that was pretty good," Keith grinned.

    "Ehhh..." grumbled Meowth. "So, is we buyin' TMs or wat?"

    Keith did not answer right away, a fact that made Meowth nervous. Sure enough, as he looked up, he was horrified to see an all-too-familiar gleam in the Poison-type Trainer's eyes.

    "Ohhhh, no, no, no, no, no," Meowth exclaimed, waving his paws wildly in protest of what he knew was coming. "No, no, don't youse dare-"

    "Meowth," Keith interrupted, a small smile forming on his face. "The Technical Machines can wait. I think we'll be buying this Ditto instead."

    "Wait, wat?" Ditto asked, blinking in surprise. It hastened to Transform into Keith once more. "So, wait- you're gonna buy me?"

    "If that's OK with you," smiled Keith.

    "If that's OK- I- yes, that's OK!" Ditto exclaimed. "See, you get it, my particular brand of humor, right?"

    "Yeah, I think so," Keith nodded. "You like to use your powers to get a reaction out of others. Nothing horrible, nothing serious, just for a quick, good-natured laugh, right?"

    "See, now, this guy, he gets it," Ditto grinned, addressing Meowth while gesturing to the Trainer whose form it was assuming. "Not like that stuffy clerk who's always apologizing for my behavior," it added, rolling its eyes. "I mean, you get it- you know I mean no harm, I just hate being bored."

    "Don't we all?" grinned Keith.

    "Has youse forgotten one very important detail?" Meowth demanded. "Da same detail wat dat stopped youse from keepin' dat Zorua youse hatched weeks ago? Youse brings a Ditto home, Ginny's gonna lose it!"

    "Yeah, that's a fair point," frowned Keith.

    "Who's Ginny?" asked Ditto.

    "Ginny's my Pawniard," explained Keith. "She's pretty paranoid and uptight, obsessed with security and making sure I'm safe. She checks anyone coming anywhere near my Secret Base to make sure they are who they claim to be, and not a Zorua or a Zoroark... or a Ditto. And yeah, if you join the team, that's bound to mess with her- now, come on," he added, for a smirk was forming on Ditto's borrowed face at this news. "Look, Ginny is, how do I put this..."

    "Completely insane?" offered Meowth.

    "Not completely," said Keith. "But OK, to be fair, she isn't likely to react well to you."

    Ditto sighed. "Alright, yeah, I can see how that'd be a problem," it conceded. "Should'a guessed it'd be too good to be true..."

    Keith watched as Ditto started to walk away, slowly melting back into a pink blob. Meowth didn't look too bothered by this as he started gathering up the TMs again, but how Keith was looking was a whole other swarm of Yanma.

    "Hey, Ditto," Keith called. The pink blob stopped but did not turn around. "If... If you were to promise to try and not get much of a reaction out of Ginny-"

    "Ditto Ditto dit Ditto dit-hell yeah I'd promise that!" Ditto exclaimed, its speech transitioning between Ditto language and human language halfway through the sentence as it raced back over to Keith and Transforming back into his likeness. "So, does this mean-"

    "It means welcome to the team, Ditto," Keith grinned, producing a Poké Ball from his bag and holding it out. "All we need now is a name for you."

    "How about Bart?" suggested Ditto.

    "Already got a Bart on the team- my Scraggy," replied Keith. "I mean, it'd suit you, I'm sure, but it's taken nonetheless."

    "No, yeah, that's, I get that," nodded Ditto. "OK... hey, how about Jack? As in 'jack of all trades'?"

    "I dunno," murmured Keith. "I don't exactly have the best track record with Pokémon named Jack. First there was that Darumaka- I ended up trading him away because he was just too much to handle. And then there was that Snover- I had him for a couple of weeks around Christmastime, until he chose to stay in the Adoption Center..."

    "Dat didn't stop youse from namin' yer Skrelp da way ya did," Meowth reminded him.

    Keith chuckled. "True," he conceded. "Alright, then- welcome to the team, Jack," he stated, holding out the Poké Ball once again.

    "Nice!" exclaimed the Ditto as it tapped the Poké Ball's button with a fist, as though exchanging a fist-bump with Keith. The ball sucked Jack inside and barely budged before letting out a low-pitched ping to signal a successful catch.

    ~~~
    "...You seriously want to buy it?!" exclaimed the clerk, sounding half-horrified, half-thrilled.
    "Yeah," nodded Keith, opening his Coin Case which was lying on the counter, revealing no fewer than 200,000 coins within. "You shouldn't be complaining, though- wouldn't you want to get that Ditto out of here?"
    "Yeah, true," the clerk conceded. "Shouldn't look a gift Ponyta in the mouth- what the?!" he exclaimed, for at that moment, he started to count the coins in Keith's Coin Case, and had just noticed that the words "YOU STINK" had appeared on one of the coins in large red writing. As he dropped the coin on the counter, it started to wobble around, with laughter seeming to come from it. Sure enough, the coin glowed, grew, and lost all shape, revealing a hysterically laughing Ditto in its place.
    "Oh, COME ON!" snapped the clerk.
    "Oh, lighten up," chuckled Keith, who was unable to stop himself from joining in on Jack's laughter. Even Meowth found himself chuckling slightly. "They're all in there, just count 'em."
    "Yeah, they better damn well all be in there," grumbled the clerk as he proceeded to count the coins. It took him a while, as he kept shooting Jack suspicious looks, which the Ditto found hilarious. Sure enough, after what felt like hours, the clerk finished counting up the coins, and was satisfied that the full and considerable price of 200,000 coins had been paid.
    "Well, welcome aboard, Jack," Keith stated as he led the way out of the shop. His new Ditto had again Transformed into its Trainer's likeness, and was following behind him.
    "Glad to be aboard," grinned the Ditto. "So, hey, Keith," it added. "So, basically, when I Transform, I know all the moves the thing I turned into knows. Now, normally that's only a thing when I become a Pokémon, but for some reason, when I'm like this, it seems like I can do Smog, Mean Look, and Night Shade. What's the deal there?"
    "Long story," Keith replied. "Let's just say I'm not your average Trainer and leave it at that for now."
    "I'm starting to get that, yeah," nodded Jack. "So, where we headed?"
    "My Secret Base," Keith replied. "We'll be riding on the back of my Scolipede-"
    "Wait, wait a second," Jack interrupted. "Much as I'm looking forward to meeting the rest of the team, I think I can help with the transportation situation here. Gimme a second, I wanna try and get this right, and I'm doing this from memory, not my strong point..." With that, Jack closed its borrowed eyes and focused, and began to Transform again. This time, it assumed a decidedly drastically different shape, a large, blue-and-black dragon with what appeared to be two additional heads on its hands, and six narrow black wings. Keith took out his Pokédex and pressed several buttons- simply scanning Jack would, of course, produce Ditto's entry, so he had to manually search for a match for what Jack now looked like. Finally, he found something that looked like what Jack now looked like.
    "Hydreigon, the Brutal Pokémon, and the evolved form of Zweilous," droned the device. "Hydreigon attacks anything that moves. Its three heads can consume and destroy anything in its path."
    Keith looked back at Jack- it was indeed a good likeness, but the pink spiky frills around the head looked too long, and the belly stripes were too narrow. "Not bad," he nodded. "A few differences, but you captured the likeness well enough." The "Hydreigon" gave a short, sharp roar in acknowledgement of this. Keith then climbed onto Jack's back, and the "Hydreigon" took off into the sky.
