Well I think the original poster is doing a playthrough which means he can't obtain his Deino/Zweilous until the very end

Nah, I think it's beter off being a pure Electric-Type. the Dark-Type moves it can learn are commonlly known by a lot of other Pokemon

Not enough dark to be a dark/electric pokemon.

The first time I ran into a Shinx, and evolved it into Luxio, I automatically thought it was part Dark, and not to mention it learns a fair amount of Dark type moves.
It would have made more sense to make it Electric/Dark, but I guess had their reasons to keep it pure Electric.

To me it doesn't look Dark enough but it would have been really cool to get STAB on Night Slash.

I agree with Rhyperior as well, Rhydon was to meh for me. It's design looks bad*** and has that beefy Attack and Defense IMO.

Electric/Dark would be really cool, but unfortunately it doesn't seem mean at all and the moves are just Bite&co.

I think Gothitelle should be Psychic/Dark more than Luxray for example.

Just a darker look and a few casual Dark attacks aren't enough. Otherwise lots of pure-types would be dual types.
    Electivire Electric/Fighting
    Huntail Water/Dark
    Pinsir Bug/Fighting
    Zebstrika Electric/Fire
    Conkeldurr Fighting/Rock
    Misdreavus Ghost/Psychic
    Sudowoodo Rock/Grass
    ..........
It would probably feel less natural if pure types were rare lol.

I think it should have. It does look dark. I don't see how people don't see that and also it would've been a unique typing. And the Luxray line definitely reminded me of the Hondoom line.

I hate the design of Bagon, Salamence, and everyone in the Tepig and Chimchar families. :P

I loved all the "Useless" DP Evos and prevos! Froslass go!

Absolutely. Its design practically screams "I am Dark-Type".

    This as well.
Sudowoodo should be Pure Rock, imo. The concept of this Pokémon is to be a fake tree, "pseudo wood".

I think Drapion should be Bug/Dark instead of Poison/Dark.

And also, take the definition of "necessary" into consideration. Honestly are some of the evolutions really essential and needed (especially when it comes to just changing the appearance of a pokemon)? It's not the same as "it's nice to have."
Agree with Poliwhirl'sMittens regarding Rhydon vs Rhypherior. If it had at least kept triceratops/rhinocerous-like shape for its head I could live with the arms and tail, but it's just...bald.

Honestly, when the artists design a brand new Pokemon family in that generation (like Skuntank, Luxray, Floatzel) they conserve much of the Pokemon's features across different evolution stages, and those were really decent. But whenever they have to add a new stage to an old line, they seem like they have the urge to go all out of the way to make them look vastly different from their old look.
The best evolutionary designs are brought about by a balance between change and consistency.

I like Shelgon WAY more than those too, plus everyone of those DP evos deserved them because it improved Porygon-2, Gligar and others with the addition of Eviolite!

Plus does Cofagrigus being uncreative due to it being uncreative in design count because I've seen people bashing on his creativity too (no I never bashed on him)?

How is that? Cofagrigus is one of the most creative Pokémon ever made ._.

The people who said it is uncreative (if someone really said that) probably are genwunners or something like that.

Yeah I think those were Genwunners who also complained about Klink when he was first revealed!

I love the Klink line, GF gave them praise with Wild Charge but poor Escavelier was thrown off the boat because he is one of my favorite Bug types and there my favorite type.

Looking "dark" isn't necessarily a justification for the literally translated "Evil" type.

But Rhyperior had even more beefier stats than Rhydon.

Luxray isn't evil nor can it learn many dark type moves. So the answer is no.

Absol and Bisharp aren't evil either.

And Luxray does not learn more Dark-Type moves, because you know, it isn't a Dark-Type Pokémon.

I think it should. But then again, I have a Shiny Luxray as my avatar and my sub-title clearly says "Dark Royalty".
