1) You don't get banned, you get an infraction.
2) The topic is 3 months old, that means it's dead, and the topic of discussion is over. Reviving it is annoying, especially if you add nothing to it.
3) You got a warning, not an infraction. Since you're a new member, who should have read the rules by now (ie, it should have been the first thing you did before posting anything, anywhere), it was 0 points. Next time it will be an infraction.
4) You were lucky to get away with just a warning, since the topic you bumped was 4 years old.

Because at one point there were claim threads for everything under the sun, and 90% of the were pointless. Claim a colour, claim a shoe brand, claim a word you just made up, claim a claim thread, claim a claim a claim thread, etc. There are already several claim threads covering the most popular subjects, you need mod permission so that they can be sure you're not covering an existing topic or making one that's pointless.
And why would you want to SPAM your own profile?
