Default The SPPF D/P contest guide

    hey people,
i thought it might be a good idea to make a thread that will help
people out who could use some help with winning the D/P contests so here is the thread that will assist with the D/P contests.

it might be smart to read the guide first before you ask any questions
in this thread, it should contain enough to help you with most things.

do know that this thread is for help with contests only
so please don't spam and keep it nice everybody.

    NOTICE:
we have our own group too now if you like to do the D/P contest or need more help then you are most welcome to join.

    http://www.serebiiforums.com/group.php?groupid=144

i simply named it "the D/P contest group" and it's for chatting a bit and to leave any info there that might help but it's
also a good spot if you have any questions about contests,
i'll often keep my eye out on that group for any changes and questions.

    ACCESSORIES & BACKDROPS--------------------------------------------------------------------------ACCESSORIES & BACKDROPS:

        Spoiler:- accessory locations:

here is a link that has info of where and how some of the contest items that can be found on amity square:
    http://www.serebii.net/diamondpearl/amity.shtml

        Spoiler:- backdrops:

use all allowed amount of accessories and don't be hesitant to use many copies of the same item. It doesnt matter if you arrange your accessories in an organized way or in a messy way. But as far as my experience showed, you have to leave some room so that the pokemon itself will be visible, thus, use BIG pokes for contests Also, accessories dont necessarily have to be linked to the pokemon directly, but you can put an accessory on another.

Oh, and use the +1 accessories only as a last resort, if you have no more +2 accessories available. Also, don't forget to max out (don't even think of leaving even a little bit unmaximized) your condition and give the corresponding scarf.

And the heart number in the Master rank is always kinda weird, imo. I got like, only 4-5 hearts, but has the highest score for the visual o.o I guess there are some certain values for each heart and there are just different ones showed.

    BERRIES & POFFINS-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------BERRIES & POFFINS:

    - to know more about berries and it's strengths it's reccomendable to click this easy link to serebii's personal D/P berrydex:
    http://www.serebii.net/berrydex-dp/

    - here is a link to a D/P poffin calculator:
    http://www.psypokes.com/dp/poffincalc.php

    - this is a link to a guide with info about what kind of poffin will be baked
when baking with a single berry:
    http://www.psypokes.com/dp/poffin.php

    - I just found out something while baking Poffins and I think this could prove handy if you're mixing them on your own.
Do you guys know about the Sheen bar? That bar constantly fills up as you feed your Pokemon more Poffins. Once, I tried feeding Lv. 45-47 Dry-Sweet Poffins to my Empoleon. It made his Beauty condition very high, but it didn't max out. The Sheen bar was full so I couldn't give it any more Poffins. Then I came to a realization. Poffins with a high Smoothness factor makes the Sheen level of your Pokemon higher and that can be a bad thing if you weren't able to max its condition once you reach 12 stars.

These berries that have high Smoothness factor are Enigma, Micle, Custap, Jaboca and Rowap. It's easier to create high level Poffins with these, so you may want to still use them because it's harder to create high level Poffins with Liechi, Ganlon, Salac, Petaya and Apicot even though they have lower Smoothness level.

Here's what I did. I made Lv. 43-45 (higher is possible) Dry-Sour Poffins from Apicot Berries. I made three of them and made three Lv. 45-47 Dry-Sweet Poffins from Micle Berries. I said between those levels because you'll reach max condition and sheen in no time.

    - If you can't mix Poffins with other people, the best berries to use are #53 - #64 (not including Enigma and Starf Berries). With those berries, you can make Lvl 39-48 Poffins. Also, when cooking Poffins, try to cook it as fast as you can (with those berries, you'll have to be extra fast). When you see a small puff of smoke, that means your Poffin is below average.

    - if you want to win a masterclass contest it greatly helps if you max out the
right condition of the catagory that you want to win, when baking poffins for that it's
advisable to get a few buddy's to stir the mix with,

    PREPARATIONS---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------PREPARATIONS:

    - good contest moves are essential so i have a link here to a good guide all about contest moves:
    http://www.neoseeker.com/resourcelin...305&rid=142984
credits goes to Adam Lazarus for making that guide^^

allways use the scarfs that ups the stats beauty, cool, smart, tough, and cute, they are obtained at pastoria city
east from the pokemoncenter there, have a poke with a
maxed condition and the boy that's in that house will give you a scarf of the same color.

    - a good standard contest pokemon moveset should have these effects:
+2 when performed first in turn.
+2 when performed last in turn.
+2 when performed last in turn.
basic attack with standard 3 points.

    DANCING-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------DANCING:

    - with dancing there is one thing very important, and that's much practising,
if you don't dance much and you'll go for the ultra and the masterclass the chanse of failing will rise.

    - if the dancing rounds are up i would reccoment to use the left up right down buttons instead of the stylus,
it gives a faster reaction to time the steps better (only use it if you can't time good with a stylus)

    PERFORMANCE---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------PERFORMANCE:

    - if you are doing the performance part then look closely on your foes for which judge they perform on. allways perform on the judge that had two or more other contestants performing on him at the last round(you not included)
it rises the chanse that you will be the only person performing on that judge the next round which will give more points.

    - allways watch out with the voltage, there is a good chanse the opponent gets away with it so if not needed then keep the voltage low.

-I think the best combination to use during the Acting Competition would be a move that doubles your score next turn followed by a move that adds +2 to your score if you go first (eg. Calm Mind + Psychic) or adds +2 if the Voltage goes up (eg. Calm Mind + Grass Knot). Moves that give you higher score for low voltage are good too, but if you are going for the high score, you need to present your move to a judge that has low voltage.

    - a good tactic is nasty plot + swift, since nasty plot gives no hearts you'll attack first while swift if you do it first it gives you a +2 bonus so it would be: 2+2+4=8 i managed once to get 18 hearts in one thing of this in a master contest.

    POKEMONS & MOVESETS---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------POKEMONS & MOVESETS:

    Jigglypuff:
~Psych Up - points of next appeal doubles. It's SMART move but you need something what will double your ponits!
    ~Return - points + 2 if first to appeal
~Gyro Ball/Facade - points doubles if last to appeal
~Defence Curl - pokemon after self cannot raise any voltage in that turn.

    Manaphy:
    Tail Glow
    Supersonic / Surf
    Grass Knot
    Aqua Ring

Basically, raise voltage as much as possible and then benefit in the last turn. Quite experimental set, i'll perhaps try it myself out somewhen too, as I still need to win the beauty contest.
    Tail Glow/(Surf) -> Supersonic/(Surf)-> Grass Knot -> Aqua Ring
^depending on the situation and moveset... Surf is kinda like a filler, and Supersonic might help you a tad so that no voltage is lowered or so..

I've never really had any issues with contests, but nice guide, nonetheless.
My movesets typically have a mix of the following:
    +2 if first to perform
    +2 if last to perform
    peforms first next turn
    double score next turn

    great work pinkerdroit

it's only problem is that it might be confusing when having a time limit of 60 seconds, i'll upgrade the list of accessories in this tread based on your link
    when i have more time.

it's more easy for serebii members to find it too.

    thank you^^

Yep, that's the only thing I've never liked about that guide.. whenever I need to check accessories, it's a constant switch between checking my computer/opening&shutting my DS from sleep mode so time doesn't run out

It would be great to see it in an easier format ^_^

    & you're welcome :]

Wow! Great guide! ^^ I always have trouble on what accessories I should put on my Pokemon.

And I just won the Tough Master Rank with my Tyranitar. Now I won all 5 Super Contest Categories. ^^ I'll share some tips, if that's okay?

-If you can't mix Poffins with other people, the best berries to use are #53 - #64 (not including Enigma and Starf Berries). With those berries, you can make Lvl 39-48 Poffins. Also, when cooking Poffins, try to cook it as fast as you can (with those berries, you'll have to be extra fast). When you see a small puff of smoke, that means your Poffin is below average.

Why were we there back to back?
Why were we there face to face?

a good tactic is nasty plot + swift, since nast plot gives no hearts u'll attack first while swift if u do it first it gives u a +2 bonus so it would be: 2+2+4=8 i managed once to get 18 hearts in one thing of this in a master contest

what the max points u can get per round?

I think this would be the right topic for this...

Well, inspired in this topic I thought it would be a good idea to enter a contest in my Pearl version (I haven't), so looking through movesets and contest effects of the moves I thought of this:

    Minun - Cool
1 - Agility/Quick Attack (2 hearts, makes the user perform first the following round)
    2 - Swift/Thunder (2 hearts, x2 if performed first)
3 - Charge/Nasty Plot (no hearts, doubles the score of the next performance)
4 - Trump Card (hearts = turn number)

If referring to moves by the numbers they're beside since most have two options. On the first three rounds, perform move 1 if not in the lead, move 2 if in the lead. On turn four, use move 3 to double your last performance, which would be Trump Card. Since it's the last turn, it'll get 5 hearts, and then it would be doubled.

OK, so one problem... Niether Charge nor Nasty Plot is Cool-typed; Charge is Smart and Nasty Plot is Cute. Which would be a better option in a Cool contest? Would any of them take points away or anything, since they don't give any hearts to begin with?

Other than that, feel free to praise and criticize, and especially correct me in contest mechanics; I haven't played Super Contests at all.
