This episode was awesome! I liked the part when Ambipom pwned Meditite, but Lucario's Force Palm thing was awesome too and Ash practicing Staravia's Brave Bird. But my favorite part, was of course, the battle! And Team Rocket did a funny little part.

Personally, I found that pwning of Meditite by Ambipom, followed by a pwning by Lucario was all too quick. Not really a lot of battle fines if you ask me.

^Yeah. I agree. Meditite didn't do much damage to Ambipom, if any. Basically Lucario OHKOed a fully charged Ambipom.

I don't think so, the energy usage for Dawn's Ambipom would have been great enough for the knockout to take it down - and it wasn't a OHKO, Ambipom took damage from (what is that attack called again?)

If you're talking about Double Hit, I think Ambipom was pretty much fully charged. It doesn't take any energy for an Ambipom to use a move like Double Hit.

From what I saw, Ambipom only got hit with Bone Rush, and only once. Ambipom who's weak to fighting types should not have fell so easy to a weak ground type. I mean why not Aura Sphere? At least that would've been more believable.

Of course, it's Dawn were talking about, if it was Ash, Ambipom would've lasted longer.

True and all, but remember they needed to make sure that Lucario stood out as something like an uber trump card. By putting Dawn as the one to challenge Maylene and loose, sort of made Lucario seem to be extraordinarily strong.

But I agree. One hit from a Bone Rush is a bit over the line.

Totally, considering Ash trained it as Aipom, and how hard it worked in the first gym match..... it really should have been something more like Aura Sphere or the like

IF, it had Aura Sphere in it's movepool, but that's another story. But honestly, I think Ambipom has softened it's battling style because of Dawn. Now she's being trained to work for the appeals and battles, which are taking away the focus on improving power.

Yeah, but the time between when Ash was training Aipom, and this battle hasn't been anywhere near long enough to allow for that much of a lapse..... It still think it was way over done.

At least we got something different for a change with this episode, with Dawn battling Maylene first. It kind of reminded me of May's practice battle at the Mauville gym back in season seven, but at least Dawn's battle was pretty exciting too.

atleat, it was something different, but it did look that dawn held back and that she did not give it her all in most of the battle

The whole point of Dawn battling was get Maylene's Spirit back and in sync with her Lucario - it would have been stupid if Dawn battled hard and fast....

But you've got to admit, Dawn was completely out of place as far as battling in a Gym was concerned. I think the writers particularly wanted to emphasize Ash's Gym expertise instead of Dawn, and used the encouragement battle as a comparison to Maylene when she's not at top form, against the Maylene who versed Ash.

Totally - and Dawn's self-doubt shows everyone that she's really not cut out for the gym battles!

It was a mistake when Dawn said that she asked first Maylene to battle her.
I remember that Ash asked first!

I don't think this was a waste. Ash was fine with dawn going first, anyway. It was nice to see dawn try a Gym Battle because it was a new experience. Obviously, though, she lost. I'd much rather have Ash battle in this episode, but this episode was interesting.
