i get almost all my cds online. usually from the label the band is on.
only things i ever buy in shops is things that would be cheaper in a sale than online [pop music].

Naturally
Honestly if it's guaranteed that it will be in good condition, I'd be fine spending a bit more online. However I still enjoy looking for albums in-store.
Nothing beats the satisfying feeling of finding a good album for 9 bucks in a bargain bin (Agalloch's Pale Folklore)
What stores do you guys buy from? Around here there's only chain stores. The place with the best selection is FYE, and I refuse to pay $20 for an album. I've been having trouble with space lately, too. Admittedly I pirate a lot of material, but at the same time I have stacks and stacks of albums that are on the floor because I ran out of shelf space. >_<
The last album I bought was the new Bongripper, it's still in the mail. For anyone into stoner doom, Bongripper is incredibly good and their last 2 cds are only $7 on their MySpace, no shipping cost.

How many CD's do you have, might I ask?
Also, the best shop for albums here is JB-HIFI. They have large sections for metal music, but they hardly have anything interesting. Well.. They always have interesting bands, but never their best material.
(Might I also go off-topic by saying anime is extremely scarce here too. A boxset of 4 dvds stings you 80-120 Australian bucks, and they rarely ever have anything decent.)
Other than that there's practically nowhere else to go other than the internet.
Also, I kind of like Stoner doom. Maybe when I want to feel like I've walked around in smoke for 2 hours I'll give Bongripper a whirl.![]()

Ive got about 150-200 cds. I usualy go to HMV or Zavvi but now Zavvi has shut down its basicly just HMV where its about £10-£16 usualy, but theres a good shop ive been to a few times in the lake district, but i usualy get folk music from there. And theres a brilliant shop i go to in york when ever i go. it used to be called HellRaiser but i dont think it is anymore, I got some great stuff in the past. I got Black Abyss' '"Angels wear Black" for £10, Alestorm's "Captain Morgans Revenge" for £10 (2 days before its was officially released), and Glittertind's "Evige Asatro" for £8. I Also got An Ensiferum and A Moonsorrow T shirt for £15 if I remember and an Edguy Long Sleve for £20. there was Also A rack of cheap cd's between £2 and £10, there was some pretty decent stuff like Mystical Prophecy, Green Carnation and other Power/prog/Black/death metal albums.
But the majority of the time I use the Internet.
A Few Bands Ive got into Lately:
Einherjer (Viking Metal)
Fferyllt (Celtic Folk Metal)
XIV Dark Centuries (Pagan Folk Metal)
Lakupaavi (Moonsorrows Grindcore Side Project)
the Lakupaavi album is available for free download from the bands website:

Can anyone offer any advise on some good places to start for someone trying to get into Bolt Thrower? I'm thinking Realm of Chaos just because there are Space Marines on the cover, but aside from my Warhammer 40K fanboyism, I'm really just looking for some good albums of theirs. So far I've liked what I've heard from them.

So I was checking out my Opeth album books, and while I was reading Mikael's little bio on Ghost Reveries, the final sentence said -
"I just hope our next record doesn't suck in comparison."
Well, he probably didn't expect half the band to leave either.
Not saying that as a criticism, necessarily. It's just that it's possible to sound totally distinctive within a given genre, though what Rosetta does is still good.
I really like Wake/Lift. Haven't not heard that other album yet, though I'll eventually track it down.
Overall Traced in Air is my favorite from 2008. After that is a few other albums (need to get around to be 2008 list and post it) before Mouth of the Architect's Quietly. Any ranking thereafter is arbitrary for metal albums.
Have you tried CD Pacific? For their DVD counterpart, overseas customers tend to really like them.
Should've had that in the Still Life album. That and Damnation are the only Opeth albums that interest me anymore; can't even stand to listen to Blackwater Park.
Recreating and padding out the same album over and over and over again does not a great band make.
Yeah, I've never heard of that store. It must not exist around me. I have around 350-400 actual albums, 700 in my computer's library, and a giant pile of demos that I amassed from playing with local bands for a while that I refuse to throw out on the off chance that one of them gets big.How many CD's do you have, might I ask?

Got an amazing album today, Forefather - Steadfast. id seriously recomend it.
also downloaded a Limbonic Art album, also very good.
Moon in the Scorpio.
then
In Abhorrence Dementia
then
Epitome of Illusions
then
Ad Noctum - Dynasty of Death
then
Legacy of Evil
The Ultimate Death Worship is the only one that isn't really very good.
Limbonic Art are the only good Symphonic Band worth listening to outside of single songs.
and my CD collection is around 650 cds. last time i counted I had 647. that was a month or so ago.
iono how much i have on my computer on top of that.
I got Legacy of Evil.

my post was of course an order in which you should listen.
ulver are cool, though i like their not metal stuff more. i think.
Yeah, I've had that awhile and I still listen to it fairly often. I've seen people call it the best metal album of 08.Got an amazing album today, Forefather - Steadfast.

Get Moon in the Scorpio any way possible. You will thank yourself afterwards.
Went to Melbourne today. I went to JB-HIFI and bought Neurosis' Souls at Zero.
There were only two different Neurosis albums there, that and Given to the Rising, so my choice was pretty obvious.
This is a bloody good album. Every song is as good as the previous, and the vocals really contribute to the chaotic feel of this album's sound. Long and entertaining. Always good.
I wouldn't say it was the best of 08, but its not far off in my opinion. thers only Moonsorrow, Thronar, and Opeth that I can think of the top of my head that I think were better last year.
...and I'll give Moon in the Scorpio a listen, if its a better album than Legacy of evil it must be pretty good.
I really need to pick up some Neurosis albums. Any recommendations on where to start?
Also, w00t, pre-ordered the Magic Circle 08 DVD. I'm just hoping that my tits are on it, my mate and I got filmed half-naked shouting "Hail to England" at the camera, so you never know.
You're my wife now!
through silver in blood, enemy of the sun, a sun that never sets, souls at zero, times of grace.
they are the very best ones.
wait wut
Where's The Eye of Every Storm and Given to the Rising? You include Enemy of the Sun and Souls at Zero over them!?
So yeah, Tim, start with those two, or Times of Grace, Through Silver in Blood and A Sun That Never Sets -- depends on what you're looking for.
Anyone who is a fan of metal and/or extreme music needs to listen to Neurosis. Easily one of the greatest and most consistent bands ever.
