Thread: Internal Battery Run Dry

    Default Internal Battery Run Dry

The Internal Battery Has Run Dry. The game can still be played, however clock-based events will no longer occur.

    ***********************

That's the message I got on my Sapphire. My silver actually broke and stopped working, I don't want the same thing to happen to my Sapphire. Is there a way to fix it before it breaks completely?

If you pre-ordered a copy of Colloseum and got the pre-order disc (that has a free Jirachi in it), it has a patch after you download Jirachi that corrects the error of the internal battery from running dry. Your best bet, if you do not own the disc, is to go to Game Stop or EB Games to see if they have a copy of the disc for purchase. I think the disc is cheap, if they are selling it used or whatnot.

I don't think internal battery has anything to do with the save file. It just keeps your clock running, when not playing. If it runs dry, you can't do any clock-based events, like growing berries. I don't know about the Colosseum, but you should be able to fix it, if you have a link cable, two GBAs/GBA SPs and FireRed/LeafGreen. If I remember correctly, you have to press Up + B + L in FRs/LGs Continue-screen and it will guide you through the process.

As long as it doesn't affect my game as in save files, im not too bothered. As long as I can play it.

As far as I know, Gamestop nor EB sell the bonus disc any more. It is way outdated. The only way to get it is via ebay or Amazon and they sell them at no less than $30, with the max I've seen at $70. Both of which are ridiculous prices.

The problem with GSC is that everything ran on clock-based events so if your clock goes busted, everything does. That happened on my second gold version copy when I was messing aroud with it. 3rd gen games are different. Basically, as Mister Pokemon said, it should have nothing to do with the save file. The glitch in Ruby and Sapphire is the clock freezes after one year of starting the game. What that means is day or night no longer takes into effect and berries will not grow. I'm not sure about the Lotto event, but I think that's also affected. The only thing that was not affected was the whole rocket/shuttle launching thing in Mossdeep City, which records how many weeks has it been since you started your game.

Solution: do either of the following:
    1) get a Fire Red, Leaf Green, or Emerald game and link up. Then follow the process as Mister Pokemon suggested.

    2) Trade any pokemon that is in the National Pokedex, that cannot be caught or obtained AT ALL in Ruby and Sapphire combined. Apparently this worked somehow. I traded with my brother to unfreeze his Sapphire by transferring a Dratini to him and it unfroze his time events almost immediately. However, can someone confirm this?

That, I'm affraid, is the Berry glitch, and those sollutions suggested are to cure a Ruby or Sapphire cartridge of that said glitch.

In fact his problem is that the little battery in his game pack, that keeps the clock running has ran out of juice, just like any other battery. The berry glitch cures, e.g. linking a Fr/Lg/E cart to a R/S cart and following the steps will have NO effect. I know because I'm going through the same problem with my Ruby right now.

    1) As for solutions, well they're minimal. You can send the game pack back to nintendo, but they might tell you to replace it.

    2) Buy a new game and trade across all you 'mons. But that would again result in memory and progress loss.
    Or
    3) Simply replace the battery, and this is what I'm doing. You can buy secialist screwdrivers online for the gba cartidge (Try Googling: tri-end Screwdriver and/or GBA Screwdriver) and buy a replacement battery from any jewellry or drug store. Then simply unscrew the screw on the back of the cart take out the old battery and replace it. You may need to solder the battery in place depending on how old the Cartridge is, but that shouldn't be too hard.

Hope this has helped you, and good luck whatever option you choose to follow.

I got my Ruby about a few years ago, and it's always had that. The save file's fine, but the berry thing is annoying. The problem is that I don't have a GameCube or a GBA Link Cable, so I have to settle for little to no berries.

If you get the message "The internal message has run dry" then that process will NOT work. As I said, that is a cure for the 'Berry glitch', and will not have any effect on the internal battery. If a message comes up during the link process saying 'cannot update the berry program', then there are only two reasons. Either the Game has already been updated, or the battery has run dry and the game cannot update.

The berry glitch cures will have no effect on the the internal batterry. If you get the internal battery has run dry message, it is NOT the berry glitch. Therefore, the glitch cures will not work.

    Hope that helps

ya the same thing happened to my crystal version, that was the best team I ever had. I turned it on after not playing with it for 2 years and saw that message and couldnt play with my awesome team anymore:'(

anyways I dont think it'll effect the save file. The time just froze and it wouldnt effect the game unlike G/S/C cuz those games HAD to use the clock cuz there was that day/night feature. While R/S/E only has a clock with no change in the look of the time. I guess thats why they omitted the idea of day/night feature in RSE, cuz probably people kept losing their save files.

My ex had actually opened up his game cartriges and replaced the battery; after he did that, his games have worked fine (he did it to his Silver version).
So if you feel confident that you can open your games without breaking them, you can replace the battery yourself; otherwise you might want to call Nintendo to see if they'll replace it.

Oh, and in Sapphire, the battery is mainly connected to the clock. But I think that if you go too long without fixing it, it can also mess with your save file? I'm not too sure; I've only heard of this happening to older games.
    I'm working on finishing my DP Pokedex...I have 490. : D!

Sorry, but on your Emerald the only solution is replacing the battery.
Berry glitch exists in Ruby or Sapphire ONLY. In fact, Emerald has the update patch aswell as FRLGCLXD ;p

To anyone trying to replace the battery: be extremely careful when doing that, and it's better if you give it to people who understand electronics. I should've given my game to my father and ask him to replace the battery instead of using my own crappy skills. I lost not only the save file, but also that cart is not playable now at all >.< I can start it, but after some while it deletes itself.
